@Rob So "the" FAQ is the single post listing the questions, like math.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/107/…?

@LarrySnyder610 Technically speaking "the FAQ" was charged to the Tour many years ago, search The Tavern chat for conversation with Shog and the Dog from a few weeks ago ... --- But that's kind of useless, so the third link I offered is better and the link you provided is site-specific (and not binding on other sites, to tell someone "but the FAQ says ..."), but it, along with other relevant site-specific FAQs (like Stats.SE, even AI.SE), is useful to
reference to write our FAQ.

@Rob I guess that’s my question: so our faq means our version of math.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/107/…

@LarrySnyder610 Yes, but if you are going to write a draft for our Meta be sure to ... (well, you know ... read the FAQ) --- Seriously, read a few different sites FAQs (even Quantum Computing, MathOverflow, Physics, maybe IPS is a kind thought). Many sites have a 'template FAQ' that was simply modified slightly from the template and is out of date, resulting in multiple site-Meta questions that you need to research, and additional questions on the Main Meta site regarding
policy (don't forget the SO Blog, and comments in The Tavern from our leaders). Too difficult for me to do on a cellphone screen.

I wasn’t planning on writing a draft. At least not now. Was just curious about what “the” faq meant.

Rob
K, it means the Tour.

@LarrySnyder610 This is outdated, but here is the Glossary of Stack Exchange - Here is the conversation with Shog9 that says FAQ was linked to the Tour a while back.

@LarrySnyder610 In motivation of this earlier message would it be a good idea to get some users over the 350 threshold by bounty-ing their answers? Of course, award only the high-quality ones.

7:10 PM
@TheSimpliFire It's not a bad idea but I see two issues: (1) People are getting to 350 relatively quickly anyway, and (2) it costs the bounty-awarder some rep, and there is value to having high-rep (not just medium-rep) users too.
OTOH, I think it's a great idea to start offering some bounties, just to drum up a little interest and buzz. What do you think?

I have started one here

Q: Usages of logarithmic mean in optimization

ErlingMOSEKI have recently learned about the logarithmic mean $$ \frac{x-y}{\ln(x)-\ln(y)},\, x,y > 0. $$ See the Wikipedia entry for Logarithmic mean. It is used a lot in chemical engineering optimization models e.g. see slide 15 of Developing spatial branch & bound solvers. But I wonder if have anyone...

yeah, too early for bountys IMO. Users need to have their reputation

@LarrySnyder610 Indeed, though it may help clear review queues. However, it is currently difficult to decide as I notice there are fewer questions being asked per day and in turn this reduces the traffic in the queues.

@TheSimpliFire I saw that. I think it's fine to do here and there. Maybe even do a meta post to call people's attention to it? But I think it should be for generating some momentum, not for redistributing rep in ways that we try to engineer too consciously.
@TheSimpliFire The queues seem relatively empty as far as I can tell.

@LarrySnyder610 Unless it's Suggested Edits where more activity takes place (in which case the threshold is 500 rep) - aside, I see Robert is also participating there

7:16 PM
yeah, note that if the site exists the private beta, the threshold will be increased to 1000
Robert is a CM - after the mod elections, he is not needed here

@double-beep Mod elections? When are those going to start?

after the site exits private beta

Wait do the rep requirements go up when we leave private beta or when we leave beta? I thought it was beta.

Well, I already have someone in mind... and I'm pretty sure they'd be willing to do it :)

@LarrySnyder610 yep

7:18 PM
@LarrySnyder610 leave private beta
Other beta sites like Tezos require more rep to get into the queues I think

private.beta.leave()

@TheSimpliFire ok
Anyway I think the better mechanism to get people’s rep up is more questions, more answers, and more voting. Just not quite sure how to encourage that. OTOH it seems like we’re doing OK so far.

FWIW: the site is expected to launch at 6 days

@LarrySnyder610 Yep, I've pretty much voted on every question/answer on OR, and I know many users (including you) are doing the same as well

7:53 PM
@TheSimpliFire indeed
@double-beep it’s not automatic that we go public after 3 weeks is it?

@LarrySnyder610 yeah, CMs will have to review that.
3 weeks are given to the community to develop the rep, ask Qs and add As, etc.

8:10 PM
@double-beep that’s what I thought. I know the usual rule of thumb is 150 questions — we should have that by then I think.

@LarrySnyder610 @TheSimpliFire you can try to find the greatest answer with the fewest votes for a user under 350 and award a bounty of 50. That does three things: you get a couple of badges, the exposure might get everyone in the Q&A some upvotes, and the person whom you award the bounty to get 50. --- I'm really in favor of this only happening to a rare and exceptional Q&A, but it's your 50.

Remember to use the 'Share link' in your 'Bounty comment' to point out the answer you are going to award to (even if there's only one answer - slim chance of additional badge, and highlights the answer if a few more come in) and wait a week before awarding to maximize the exposure (and potential other upvotes). Someone did that for me, wrote a glowing review, and I obtained ~1500 rep and the small bounty a week later.
