I spent at least 3 hours with the same problem until I realized secure boot was enabled by default in my laptop's BIOS. Turned it off and WiFi INSTANTLY worked fine.

That can definitely prevent it from working. I actually had the same Broadcom card in my laptop and disabling secure boot fixed the problem. 4.0;
