A: Sandbox for Proposed Challenges

LambdaBetaGolf my Ada arrays Background Ada is a programming language that is not exactly known for its terseness. However, its array literal syntax can in theory allow for fairly terse array specifications. Here is a simple EBNF description of the array literal syntax (passable to bottlecaps.de: array...

Q: Check if the knight move in chess is valid or not?

Maheer AliConsider an array which represent chessboard. Its length is 64. The first 8 elements represents first row the next 8 second row and so on. Create a function which takes two arguments index of knight in the array index where knight is tried to move. Return Value: Return vale should be true if...

@MartinEnder @Neil Retina question: is there a simple way to get the amount of times something is repeating including the initial match? I.e. let's say I want to convert input abcabcabcdef (has abc repeated 3 times subsequently) to output 3[abc]def. I know I can use (.+)(\1)+ and $#2[$1] to convert it to 2[abc]def, but then increasing that number by 1 is (a.f.a.i.k.) an additional 20 bytes: \d+, *, _+, $&_, _+, $.&. Can this be accomplished shorter?

Q: Roots of Arbitrary Numbers

TauOne day, when I was bored in maths class, I learned of a neat trick for solving the real cube root of a number! Let's use the number \$79,507\$ as an example. First, take digit in the one's place and compare it to this table: \begin{array} {|r|r|} \hline \text{Extracted Digit} &\text{Resulting...

2:34 PM
Isn't The output **must** be calculated using the above method considered unobservable criteria?

@Skidsdev Yes, generally.

3:04 PM
@KevinCruijssen in Retina 1 use $.($#2*__)
in Retina 0.8.2 use (?=(.+?)\1)(\1)+

3:49 PM
Interesting. I broke my 1000+ day streak of visiting the site a week ago.

3:59 PM
@Neil Ah, I didn't knew you could use/nest the length and amount builtins like that. That's very useful, thanks a lot!

@KevinCruijssen Better still, when you use $.(), Retina simply calculates the length directly instead of actually creating the string
huh, I managed to crash bash on the Mac, it threw a fit with tab-completion for some reason

GiuseppeMunchausen Numbers A Munchausen Number in base \$b\$, also known as a Perfect digit-to-digit invariant or PDDI is a peculiar type of positive integer where the sum of its base-\$b\$ digits raised to themselves is equal to the number itself. They are named for Baron Munchausen, who apparently hoi...

Q: Hungry Blobs KoTH

Redwolf ProgramsThis KoTH is inspired by Primer's Natural Selection Simulation. Your bot is a blob. In order to survive, you must eat pellets to regain energy, which is used to move. With extra energy, blobs can split into two. Energy and Movement Your blob starts off each round with 100 energy, and it has no ...

Comrade SparklePonyWho's serving in table tennis? Table tennis, also known as ping pong, is a well-known game in which players hit a ball back and forth across a table. One player serves the ball twice, and each time the ball is served, either player can score a point. Once the first player serves the ball twice, ...

@Mego I got it down to 47ms

cool 🙄

@DJMcMayhem I sure hope they have a way to disable the glyph-merging and graphic rendering of emoji.
I want my text to look like text, dammit.

8:50 PM
@DJMcMayhem yeah, rip Linux
(Linux is the natural habitat of vim... :D)

I primarily use Gvim on Windows...

@Adám you know you could just not use emoji

@Pavel I like some of the Unicode symbols, but not in emoji form. E.g. 🦄︎ and not 🦄

@Adám I know what you're trying to do but for the majority of people those render identically

@DJMcMayhem doesn't that feel a bit like eating stevia-based ice cream? :P (I'd prefer it if Linux survives...)

8:58 PM
@Pavel That's fine, as long as I don't have to look at those ugly colour blobs.

@Adám Hah: my irc client does render them differently, but not like you'd expect: i.imgur.com/9RioHD7.png

@EriktheOutgolfer I wouldn't know, I've never tried Stevia-based ice cream :P

@Pavel \⍥/

@DJMcMayhem I have (even though I don't have weight issues), it's just not the (semi-)real deal

stevia is delicious what are you talking about
I eat that stuff pure

well... at least it's not aspartame (e.g. Coca-Cola Zero) :P

Speaking of food... I unleashed my inner culinary genius recently by preparing a feast for a party.... roasted leg of lamb, mussels, cornish hen, and sauteed mushrooms (+ whatever else other people prepared).

I recently bought a filet mignon for 7$ at a grocery store and quickly found out why it was 7$

piece of fat eh?

yep

9:14 PM
Yeah... I spent $90 on food. Can't afford to do that too often.

@NewMetaPosts hm... maybe we should unfeature this, the deadline's long over anyway :P

@DJMcMayhem Maybe edit NMP's post to be the linked title of the post instead of just the url?

Both good ideas

@DJMcMayhem lol what's ?

9:26 PM
At least it wasn't yingluck >_>

at least it's the first four letters of "graduation", even though the graduation actually happened well over three years ago :P
