4:00 PM
Is it because renters carry their own furniture? I can't imagine moving a bed though

So for most places in North America, if you're renting a furnished apartment, you're either a business that uses it for for employees that are travelling or relocating, or you're only renting for 6 months or less, and in that case, you're usually renting a sub-let.
@PrivatePansy Renters move their own furniture, either the the help of friends/family (and paying them with beer and pizza) or by hiring a moving company to do it for them.

Right, we did that when we were renting. We moved four times in 14 years, and it was annoying enough without having to carry furniture

4:26 PM

@BunsGlazing Well, they got enough science education to know that mercury is incredibly toxic but not enough to know how chemical compounds work.

@Yuuki I mean, mercury is just toxic because it has no atmosphere, right?

4:41 PM
Yoku's Island Express won a BAFTA :)
Best debut game

16 minutes till monthly ends
This monthly at least
@GodEmperorDune Did you get it?

user15026
@BunsGlazing oh, very cool, I really liked that game

I still haven't played it
I keep eyeing the last physical copy at my local eb
For PS4

user15026
If you like pinball stuff, you'll really enjoy it I think

I dooo
I go to the local pinball arcade some times
It's just money
@Ash have you seen bomb chicken?
The game
Nitrome. I... Ordered a limited edition physical copy

user15026
4:50 PM
@BunsGlazing yeah I saw a trailer for it, it looks pretty fun although I think I'd probably be terrible at it :P

lol I like Obra Dinn as the artistic achievement (and game design) winner
that game is cool

Huh
Next humble bundle monthly early unlock is Assassins Creed Origin on Ubisoft

5:09 PM
@Unionhawk oh hey, they're doing a do-over on the Spring Tournament. Results of the earlier one will still be honored and paid out, but the players who qualified for the permadeath stage will be invited to compete in an additional permadeath stage with the same gear and stats they had at the start of last permadeath

Oh god, why is it taking so long to stage files?

@BunsGlazing One day I'll play that

room topic changed to The Bridge: General Arqade chat, wherein we talk about games but never actually play them. [+dragonrage] [gaming] [-hats] [jin-fanclub] [lazers] [murder] [-pedantry] [-politics]

I have a minor question that's not really worth a Meta

room topic changed to The Bridge: General Arqade chat, wherein we talk about games but never actually play them. [+dragonrage] [gaming] [-hats] [jin-fanclub] [lazers] [murder] [-pedantry] [-politics]

5:20 PM
What's up with ?

@Moacir Go home, PorkChat, you're drunk

It redirects to but that has no questions on it

You can play games?
I thought you just collected them in your Steam library.

@Stormblessed I cant find any soundtrack tagged question

@Stormblessed I assume it was aliased back around 2010 or so, but was burninated as part of 2012 tag cleanup

5:21 PM
Or not, but something doesn't look right

in fact yeah, I see music in the burninated list

Games are for kids, grown-ups collect mint condition save files of Monster Hunter World.

@MBraedley Watchu talking about

@Moacir You don't have permission to change the room topic

@Yuuki And real adults collect full save files of that obscure games noone on the internet seems to know about
@MBraedley What do you mean?

5:24 PM
@Moacir There was a room topic change attributed to you

@MBraedley Yes. It is changed

Yeah, @Unionhawk did that, which is fine because he has permission.

Aww

Unless you just fooled PorkChat with a regular message.

porkchat doesn't know the difference between a fake edit and a real one

5:26 PM
I thought you couldn't tell the difference
So I was just rolling with it

you can't

@Unionhawk Had you removed your topic change message before he noticed, would he be able to tell?

I'm not sure how porkchat handles what it thinks to be a null edit to the description
probably poorly

@Moacir Yeah, I wasn't paying full attention because PorkChat shows previous and new, and previous was the same as actual, so I didn't look to see which was previous and which was new.

room topic changed to The Bridge: General Arqade chat, wherein we talk about games but never actually play them. [+dragonrage] [gaming] [jin-fanclub] [lazers] [murder] [-pedantry] [-politics]

5:33 PM
room topic changed to without italics also break porkchat?

@Moacir Yep

Oh wow
This is pretty abusable
room topic changed to The Bridge: General Arqade chat, wherein we talk about games but never actually play them. [+dragonrage] [gaming] [jin-fanclub] [lazers] [murder] [-pedantry] [-politics]

I mean, not really. It's only user end that's effected.

Just to fix the topic

PorkChat was created to abuse.

5:35 PM
I mean, what if someone says something like (1) Whatsapp, or (1) Pornhub
It changes the window topic, doesnt it?
Is the window topic the Tab name?

No, only room name is in the title

Oh
Ok then

all porkchat does is modify a topic change message to say "previously: whatever new: wharrgarbl new room topic"
it doesn't know to look for anything other than room topic changed to though
because well, you can't

5:53 PM
I mean
When it initializes
You could technically redo the initalization
and compare the new one with the last one and see if that is the topic that changed
Also, does it remove the roomname?
Oh, the message of topic change has the room name.

My artillery doesn't have enough range, I can't nuke the biters before my pollution cloud reaches them. It looks like it needs quite a bit of research to upgrade them enough
Not sure my current base is up to it to supply that much science

@MadScientist I think I have seen people build conveyors so when the biters come they get slowed enough to be killed

@Moacir artillery is for much longer ranges and attacks biter nests, not biters

I thought it was some kind of turret, not exactly artillery
Been a while since I played factorio

the large circles in the first image is the artillery range, the second one is my pollution
artillery is new, it doesn't replace the turrets

6:08 PM
Maybe it is an intended feature?

it certainly is. I had biter evolution set in a way that delays them a lot, but now they're actually a bit dangerous and I had to run around and add defenses everywhere in my base
maybe I should build a wall ;-)

I wish factorio had multiple planets with multiple tiers of ores and everything
So you built a rocket and go to another planet, and automate that old planet to send you the resources you cannot get at the new planet

6:42 PM
So there's a good chance the company will pay for me to fly business class on my upcoming transatlantic flight, which is good, because I don't want to have to fly in the cattle pen.

Long distance economy is miserable

Google Maps really wanted me to know that there's an Antique Vibrator Museum near one of the places I'm looking at. Thanks Google Maps.

@PrivatePansy Welcome to America!

@PrivatePansy There are antique vibrators?

@BunsGlazing Yeah, you just filled them with bees

Well yes, the Victorian thought that hysteria could be cured if women... Well, you know

I knew that, actually, I think
Didn't know they had like.. devices

I knew about wooden carved... devices, but didn't know about anything beyond that. Unless "antique" is like mid-20th century and before.
You need to report back on your findings, @PrivatePansy

user15026
7:19 PM
Oh, man, guys, sex toys have been a thing for forever.

user15026
Like forever forever forever.

@MBraedley Definitely something for the Arqade blog.

user15026
Also, yes, orgasms were seen as a treatment for hysteria, under controlled conditions administered by a trained professional.

user15026
Anyway.

@Ash The head scratching part is the combination of antique and something that generally has batteries in them

7:21 PM
Stupid timezones. I am in Mountain right now?

@JasonBerkan maybe?

Yes, yes I am.

where are you?

SK. We're on permanent Central DST. So, half the year I'm the same time as Mountain and half the year I'm the same time as Central. So when I look on a TV schedule to see when a sporting event is on...
Or we're on permanent Central without DST? Bah.

@MBraedley I'm telling you. Bees

user15026
7:26 PM
@MBraedley batteries are not the only power source - wall plugs, etc.

user15026
There are lots of ways to power things :)

@Ash Fine, but electric motors weren't small enough until about the turn of the 20th century, and I generally consider antiques to be at least that old, if not older.
There's also the issue that electricity distribution wasn't big until, again, the turn of the 20th century.

user15026
@MBraedley The first patent for anything of this sort was 1880

Legally, I believe, an antique only has to be 25 years old

user15026
According to this: mentalfloss.com/article/12887/what-makes-something-antique dealers consider anything 100 years or older generally to count

user15026
7:33 PM
So these would count :)

user15026
(Well, theoretically anyhow, I have no idea what's actually in their collection, but you could, theoretically, find "antiques" there, if they have early ones.)

Which is why I want to know what they consider antique.

user15026
Their collection, according to their site, has things from 1880-1970

user15026
(I'm sorry if I sound antagonistic today. I'm having a crappy day and thus am edgier than I should be.)

So mostly wall powered, but perhaps some battery powered ones as well.

user15026
7:50 PM
Possibly, yeah.

@Ash I have a literature joke if you are interested.

8:48 PM
@Ash I'm 75% of the way through In The Vanishers' Palace and it's real good, so something to look forward to

@Ash I just want to join in pinging you

user15026
@Yuuki I'll take it!

user15026
@ToxicFrog Awesome, it might be next after I finish The Secret of Divine Civilization

Q: Season Challenges - benefit of gold pass?

jcoNew icon at bottom left offers new challenges. I see that I can immediately complete daily tasks and challenges but I'm unclear of what the benefit of the Gold Pass is. I also don't understand the reward list shown there. Can anyone highlight the benefits of Gold Pass (or what I'm missing witho...

Q: How do I solve this puzzle in The Challenge?

DragonaryI've been trying for so long but couldn't do this. I was trying to find different ways by drawing the lines on this picture on my computer but all won't work (I play on PS4 btw.) This is in the challenge. It's a symmetry puzzle with the hexagon dots.

> There's a joke I heard once about James Joyce writing Ulysses.

One day his editor comes to check up on James, and sees him kinda depressed. He asks how the days' work has gone.

"Awful. I've written 7 words today" replies Joyce.

"7 words? That's great progress" his editor replies. "So why are you so sad?"

"I don't know what order they go in."

user15026
@Yuuki snortgiggles thats gooood

user15026
I've never actually read Ulysses, though, to be honest

user15026
Never felt the need

@Ash At the end of the day, has anyone really?

user15026
9:44 PM
Fair point, friend. Fair point.

10:13 PM

user15026

Finished In the Vanishers' Palace. Tasty. Would recommend.
A bit short, but one can read some Bard Bloom as a chaser if hungering for more queer dragons.

user15026
10:30 PM
@ToxicFrog I need to read Bard Bloom at some point

user15026
TOO MANY BOOKS TOO LITTLE TIME.

TOO DAMN TRUE
That is the biggest and most enduring mood of them all.
And I may be biased because Bard is a friend of mine but I do like its books quite a lot.
They tend to be quick reads, too.

user15026
You've mentioned its books to me a number of times, I just.... waves emphatically at book piles

Yeah, I know :/
wtb like seven of me so one can do adult stuff and the other six can spend all day reading

user15026
As long as all of the reading goes into a shared collective memory so I know what I've (plural) read

10:34 PM
I mean, it would have to
Otherwise what's the point

user15026
True!

@ME gets home with a bag of crickets, drops them in the bedroom thinking "I'll unbag them and feed the spiders later"

user15026
....uhoh

ALSO ME: what are all those noises from the bedroom?
SUZIE, ATTEMPTING TO OPEN THE CRICKET BAG SO SHE CAN RELEASE THEM ALL OVER THE HOUSE: oh shit they're on to me
I swear she thinks we get crickets just as toys for her.

user15026
I mean what else could they be for? Everything is for the cats, that's how life works, no?

user15026
11:01 PM
@ToxicFrog a friend is reading "A Memory Called Empire" and described it thusly: "Enjoying this as much as I'd hoped so far, it feels like a cross between Cherryh's Foreigner series, de Bodard's Xuya series, and Leckie's Imperial Radch trilogy along but not in a derivative way, more just in that niche" which....makes me think it might very be your thing

user15026
Because afaik you like all those things

...yes. Extremely yes.
I've already started reading The Light Brigade but Memory is definitely next on my list after that description4

user15026
Yay!

user15026
is helping

user15026
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Amazon no. Bad Amazon.

user15026
11:11 PM
They delivered a package to me a day early which okay fine cool

user15026
BUT

user15026
Instead of putting it in my mailbox, they set it by my door

user15026
And while yes tehre is a kinda fence by my door so you can't aaaalways see my door from the street....I'm almost willing to bet it might not be there when I get home

I think I need to get an English name because if you think baristas can't spell your name correctly, imagine what they'd do with Chinese

user15026
11:25 PM
I can only imagine.

11:38 PM
Ugh, I need ducats...
@PrivatePansy One of the many reasons I changed my name.

@ToxicFrog this sounds like a fun twitter thread

@GodEmperorDune mercifully it did not go nearly as badly as that
When I caught her the bag was deflated but all the crickets were still contained.
They have now been feed to the spiders, leaving Suzie staring mournfully at the spider racks.

The barista this morning asked me to repeat it twice, then realized she can't pronounce it anyway after I spelled it out

ugh who does the css for humble bundle? this site is trash on mobile

user15026
@ToxicFrog I'm glad they didn't escape!

user15026
11:44 PM
@PrivatePansy eeeeergh :(

looks like assassin's creed origins is next month, so this will be the first time i do back to back months

I don't mind, but this might get annoying after a while

@PrivatePansy i know some people who have specific starbucks names for this very reason

Meanwhile I'm still mentally correctly myself everything I see a Spanish J (as in, San Jose and Jalapeno) and forcing myself to say H instead of J

tbh you can pronounce the J and people will think you are white

user15026
11:49 PM
this makes me glad my name is three letters.

Q: Fortine glitch with black Trees

GingeRecently, when I have been playing a lot of Fortinite, some glitch has made it so all the trees that I see have black leaves. Also, I cannot see chests that spawn near me, and it glitches me out of the ground when I walk. Are there any helpful suggestions that may improve these problems for me?

@Ash i have a drink here for HSA.... anyone?

user15026
