I don't know where to put this, but the 'tag' for 'speed-skating' says: "For questions about the sport of speed skating. Avoid use of the tag for ice-skating unless the question also directly applies to it." I have no idea what the second sentence tries to tell me. Speed skating is on ice, so wouldn't the tag always apply? Not trying to be pedantic, I am confused when I should use 'ice-skating' and when I should use 'speed-skating', and the text does not help at all.

I'm confused as well. The ice skating tag is spectacularly useless, saying nothing more than the tautological "ice skating is about ice skating".

Pakk. if you happen to read this is there a good term for the "artistic" forms of ice sport which excludes speed skating (and I guess ice hockey as well)?

@PhilipKendall The ISU websites lists four main categories: "Figure skating", "Synchronized skating", "Speed skating" and "Short track". "Speed skating" and "short track" are about going fast, so they fit into the tag 'speed skating', and the other two are more artistic, which if they need to go together would fit best into 'figure skating'.

@Pakk I think (2) sounds sensible, with a generic ice-skating tag which can be used for all four. We can always split speed-skating and figure-skating into separate tags later if we find we get loads of questions on one half of them (but I doubt that'll happen, we don't get many questions at all...)
