A friend and his wife tried the plate-swapping technique at a restaurant in the US that was well-known for being friendly to family style, and were told by the restaurant staff to use the portion-shifting technique. I would especially concur with that method for sharing a hamburger - cut it in half and move the portion, rather than the plate. — Ed Grimm 1 min ago

Sharing sides on separate plates should be no problem for anyone. Did you think about not switching your main plates but exchanging some food before you start eating? Cut your steak in two pieces, shovel some fries over and so on. — puck 1 min ago

Just wondering: Are you happy living at this place? You asked so many questions, some about truly bizarre behaviour, maybe you should call it quits and find a place where you enjoy living instead of trying to keep these people happy. — gnasher729 6 secs ago

I'm not sure if this should be a comment or an answer but I think you shouldn't worry about it. If one person gets offended over you trying to enjoy yourself at a restaurant, it's their problem. — Haptometer 56 secs ago

Hey @Haptometer! I've since edited your question to try and narrow down your goals and clarify a few things. You may revise or revert these edits at your own discretion :). Also, could you please describe your culture? Ie. what ages are your room-mates, what country, etc. — Anilla 1 min ago
