@flawr I might try it. I imagine it would be similar to matrix permanent (like this solution), with (+,*) replaced by (max,+)
Non-square matrices might be an issue.

replacing one algebra with another one :D
I tried to interpret it as the "rook's problem" on a non-square grid
@xnor I think you could just pad the input with zeros until it is square, and then really just run the matrix permanent algorithm with (max,+)
