Q: Quantum SVM Algorithm Error on import

DrHamedI am experimenting with some Qiskit ACQUA AI algorithms which requires the following import statement: from datasets import * However, import statement throwing an error: ModuleNotFoundError Traceback (most recent call last) in from datasets import * ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'dat...

Q: Are there any sites that allows to learn about quantum computing?

Daniel ManaSo, I wanted to learn about quatum computing. What should I learn and where do I start?

I haven't kept up with the discussion. Are we welcoming general quantum information questions even if not directly related with QC? For example, questions about Bell inequalities from a foundations point of view @Blue @Mithrandir24601@heather
or are those still better off on physics.SE?

if you'll let me doff my mod cap here a second, i'd say they're on-topic. however, that's really up for the community to decide.

glS
@heather not that I disagree with that, but so much for what was said during the first stages of the beta =) people seemed to think that only directly QC-related things should have been allowed

@glS remember that's without my mod cap. that's not necessarily what's going to happen.
i personally think it'd be kind of odd to allow one and not the other but...weirder things have happened.
in the end, i'd stand by james wootton's answer.
we have to deal with these on a case-by-case basis - if something's not super closely related to QC/QI, then yeah, it's off-topic. We're quantum computing, not all the quantum mechanics. If it's closely related, it's probably good to go - which in my mind includes quantum information.
So that's my more mod-y answer, I suppose.

glS
@heather although that also means that we are just trying to get all QI-related questions out of physics.SE, especially given that people seem to also be very keen to not set a specific expertise level for the questions. Doesn't that mean that there is a pretty big overlap between quantumcomputing.se and physics.se, thus kind of undermining the reason d'etre for quantumcomputing.se?

not really. physics, math, computer science, theoretical computer science, engineering, stack overflow - all sites with questions about quantum computing.
and anyway, if there's enough people to sustain a separate site, that's fine too - consider MO and MSE, though that was an odd sort of case.
it's still an open question though.

@heather but once you allow for all questions about quantum information that changes. Almost all of such questions would fit well in physics.SE

...or on CS or TCS or math

glS
@heather but that is my other point: the difference there is in the expertise level of the questions

the other thing i'd point out is we'd still allow all other topics.
a lot of our questions currently could be on-topic on physics, etc.

glS
@heather but mostly physics.SE. I mean, how many of the questions currently on this site would not be a good fit for physics.SE?

not many.
this is a possible problem that will not change by allowing qi questions
(again, disclaimer; this all depends on what the community decides. i just clean up messes.)

well anyway, I guess one can argue about an addition reason d'etre for this site: the gathering of more QI experts around it, which seems to be more or less working
let's deal with the problems when they arise

you also just get a more focused site.

@heather true

I believe we're supposed to be in the middle of a chat session right now - unfortunately, I'm on my phone right now (and just had a meeting), so I'm not really able to run anything
Hopefully I'll have regular internet again from tomorrow afternoon :)

glS
there aren't many people around anyway!

6:43 PM
Sorry, I had a meeting at chat time
How are things going?
@mods I sent out your packages yesterday
Sorry for the delay

@AndrewO thank you very much =)

@heather yours was priority mail so I guess you'll have it by the end of the week

@AndrewO pretty well...I talked to one of the CMs and they said that it might be possible for the logo to be changed when our site is redesigned (that might be a bit though, as they have 170+ to redesign). I also have started talking with the CMs about the "jobs" page suggested by meowz/blue. We added a "non-mainstream" close reason as well.
I think that's all the major things that have happened.

cool

Q: Moderators making decisions without getting feedback from community

user1271772I believe that we, the contributing members of the QC Stack Exchange, should have a chance to play a role in crucial future-changing decisions. The moderators should not act unilaterally on huge decisions that impact the future of our SE without waiting to hear our feedback first. Heather said...

Q: Is it possible to realize CNOT gate in 3 dimension?

GoatCNOT gate has been realized in 2 dimensions. Is it possible in 3 dimension (for example, in OAM)?

@AndrewO Thanks very much! :)
