Q: The inofficial 2018 elections nomination post

quidThere is a moderator election about to happen; we shall elect two new moderators that will reinforce the team. The procedure dictates that candidates self-nominate (this is not yet possible). However, experience has shown that some external encouragement can be useful, whence this thread. Some...

@MartinSleziak As per quid's guidelines on this post (and the fact that you previously said you were not interested in moderating here), I would like to extend a personal nomination here.
You are frequently very helpful and neutral, showsgood participation and is willing to contribute when you can. Those are good characteristics which I, personally, value in a moderator.

@AloizioMacedo Thanks for the suggestion. In any case, I definitely do not intend to run for moderator position.
Since you have mentioned it, do you think about running yourself?

@MartinSleziak I'm sorry for bringing it up, then. Maybe, but I am in the middle of my PhD. I've just finished a great deal of the "obligatory/bureaucratic" steps, so I think I would have time. However, I am not entirely sure how much time being a moderator demands. I am also not sure if the community would think I am a good fit for the job. I will try to think carefully about the idea.

@AloizioMacedo Re: I am not entirely sure how much time being a moderator demands. There is a meta psot about this. However, things might have changes since then: MSE and meta.MSE as seen by moderators.

@MartinSleziak Thanks for the link! I'll definitely read into it. My house had a problem with the water pipes (I currently have no water) and it probably will go on for a few days, so I will not be able to be very active in the next few days. But as soon as that is solved, I'll look up related things too.

I think you could be a good mod @AloizioMacedo if you'd move a bit more from introspection to action. It does not take that much time by the way. In any case it's flexible. I mean one can spend any amount of time on the site of course.

@quid I wouldn't say "one can spend any amount of time on the site." One should not run for a moderator slot if one expects to spend only very minimal time on the site. Just because two of our current moderators rarely appear on this site to moderate, doesn't mean that's okay. That may be okay with you, but if there are two moderator slots open, I want to elect only moderators who plan to be active on this site.

@amWhy I meant this differently. The amount of time needed to be perceived as a somewhat active moderator is not that high (in any case I imagined the load to be higher; well, the times when Daniel is not around it is higher, but it is still not more than many spend on the site).
However it is non-negligible.

@quid Ahhh, that I can agree with. And you know better than I, as I consider you pretty active!

The "I mean one can spend any amount of time on the site of course." was intended as saying that if one wants to one will always find something to do. The amount of time one could spend is "infinite" so some self-limitation is needed; but that basically goes for users too.

@quid Indeed!
@AloizioMacedo I encourage you to nominate yourself as a candidate for one of two moderator positions, too, if you're in any way interested in doing so!
