9:30 AM
hi pal

Hi mr. WC bloke! o/

(")>_/

9:51 AM
How are you, mr. WC?

@PauloCereda Yay! You've finished a lot of things this year :):):)

Hello world.
\bye
@egreg ^^

10:07 AM
@PauloCereda and tikzmarmots too ... what a good day ;-)

@UlrikeFischer wooo
@UlrikeFischer this is a great day!

10:20 AM
@PauloCereda introduce your own bugs then earn rep by asking your own questions, great plan! (@egreg has only ever managed the first part:-)

@PauloCereda I think that adding the “official rules” in the bookmarks would be a bonus. I also feel that they aren't so well distinguished from each other in the text.

@DavidCarlisle oi
@egreg Thanks, noted. I plan to update it more frequently, specially the docs. :)

Jan 12 '16 at 12:15, by David Carlisle
@PauloCereda finished your thesis?

@DavidCarlisle oh no
@egreg I thought of a method index too
An anonymous reader shares a report: Malware has been discovered in at least three Arch Linux packages available on AUR (Arch User Repository), the official Arch Linux repository of user-submitted packages. The malicious code has been removed thanks to the quick intervention of the AUR team. The incident happened because AUR allows anyone to take over "orphaned" repositories that have been abandoned by their original authors.
@egreg ^^ :D
@DavidCarlisle I wonder if I can have a badge of my own tool...

[ 5/56, 00:27/02:04] update: arara [6131k] (45517 -> 48183) ... done
@PauloCereda ^^

10:35 AM
@DavidCarlisle <3

$ arara --help
Error: Unable to access jarfile /usr/local/texlive/2018/texmf-dist/scripts/arara/arara.jar
@PauloCereda ^^^

@DavidCarlisle </3
@DavidCarlisle Shouldn't you wait for the update to finish? :)

@PauloCereda I did:-)

@DavidCarlisle Oh my
The .jar file should be in that location!

@PauloCereda define "that location" (for cygwin)

10:37 AM
@David: could you ls /usr/local/texlive/2018/texmf-dist/scripts/arara/, please?
@DavidCarlisle Ah good point. :)

$ find /usr/local/texlive/2018/ -name arara.jar
/usr/local/texlive/2018/texmf-dist/scripts/arara/arara.jar

@DavidCarlisle Ah it's there. I need to check the Cygwin path thingy...
Ah found what to do.

@PauloCereda apply cygpath -w to $jarpath probably....

kernel=`uname -s`
if test "${kernel#*CYGWIN}" != "$kernel"
then
 jarpath=`cygpath -w $(kpsewhich --progname=bib2gls --format=texmfscripts bib2gls.jar)`
else
 jarpath=`kpsewhich --progname=bib2gls --format=texmfscripts bib2gls.jar`
fi
@DavidCarlisle ^^ from Nicola's tools.

As I said, cygpath -w :-)

10:41 AM
@DavidCarlisle :)

@PauloCereda I'm not sure why there isn't a cygwin java, but there wasn't last time I checked. If one appears then you'd need to somehow check whether a native windows java was being used or a cygwin one

@DavidCarlisle indeed...

@PauloCereda or convert it all to emacs lisp lua to avoid such problems

@DavidCarlisle ooh paradigm shift
@DavidCarlisle does this mean you are keen on porting emacs to Lua? :)

@PauloCereda no I just offered you my second choice as I didn't think you'd like my preferred option:-)

10:48 AM
@DavidCarlisle My thesis examples are in Lua. :)

@PauloCereda mythical objects
@PauloCereda mine were in pascal

@DavidCarlisle Oh Wirth is a genius
@DavidCarlisle Pascal was great

11:03 AM
@samcarter: vvv
@paulocereda Please can we have tikzraccoons, soon?

11:19 AM
@PauloCereda Might as well make a tikzzoo right away.

11:43 AM
@TorbjørnT. ooh :)

11:58 AM
@DavidCarlisle I will break more stuff and providing fixes to harvest rep! :)

12:19 PM
@PauloCereda As long you make sure not to delay the arrival of @samcarter's tikzmarmots package I don't see any problem with that ;-)

@marmot ooh marmot conflicts

1:04 PM
@marmot The marmots can't be delayed, they are on ctan since yesterday :) [at least they are on the mirrors, the main site seems to have some problems]
@PauloCereda oh! Somehow I fear there will be many more suggestions for other animals :)

@samcarter <3
@samcarter I had a crazy idea! Expect an email from me soon. :)

1:38 PM
@samcarter WOW! Can't wait to seem them! May I ask what the link is? ;-)

@marmot ^^ :)

@marmot ^^ from the documentation :)

1:58 PM
@samcarter Thanks for releasing the marmots! ;-) ;-) ;-)

2:25 PM
@marmot Just teach them how to use \marmot within a pgf for loop and the endagering problem is solved :)

@samcarter Not fully convinced ;-)

2:39 PM
@samcarter Could you perhaps consider writing "Inspired by the enthusiasms of the TeX.Stackexchange user @marmot for <s>animals</s> beings of the same species, this little package can draw marmots using TikZ." ;-)

1 hour later…
3:45 PM
@PauloCereda cat-version? Are marmots a kind of cats?

@AlexG ooh

4:13 PM
@marmot @samcarter wouldn't it be better without the tikz?

@DavidCarlisle Much better! The picture-mode marmots could even use your famous plane!
@marmot I noticed your new avatar :) But please remove the line with \node[font=\sffamily] at (1,-0.4) {\textcopyright\ @samcarter};. The image was created by you and not by whoever wrote the package.
@DavidCarlisle I wonder why we did not yet see any marmot pizza images - is google letting you down?

@samcarter ^^^^first hit

4:33 PM
@DavidCarlisle HOLY COW

@DavidCarlisle See. No pineapple!
@samcarter Please remind me in 30 days ;-)

1 hour later…
5:55 PM
@UlrikeFischer That's a groundhog!

ooh
Can we do a diff between PDF's? The TL question about the arara manual is quite tricky!

@PauloCereda which question?

@UlrikeFischer In the TL mailing list.
@UlrikeFischer the PDF fails with Reader 9.5.5 Linux (some pages).

6:11 PM
@PauloCereda where is the manuel in the texmf?
@PauloCereda found it.

texmf-dist/doc/support/arara
Oh.
:)

@PauloCereda preflight of adobe doesn't show any syntax problem. Can you identify a problematic page and create a one page document?

@UlrikeFischer That's the problem: the page that the error is reported is the simplest one in the entire document! :)
I am trying to reduce the issue...

@PauloCereda which one?

@UlrikeFischer Page 2, for example.

6:18 PM
@PauloCereda does it break if you compile only the two first pages?

The OP said that pdftk original.pdf output fixed.pdf fixed the issue...
@UlrikeFischer Good question! That means I will have to install the dreadful Reader 9.5.5 again...
Just a minute!

@PauloCereda Lucky you

6:36 PM
@UlrikeFischer: now there's the error the PDF is invalid!
If I leave
\include{chapters/foreword}
\include{chapters/prologue}
\include{chapters/license}

@PauloCereda can you send it to me?

Up to this point, it says the PDF is invalid!
If I comment any of them and try separately, it correctly opens it!
@UlrikeFischer Sure thing! :)

@PauloCereda works ok for me. No errors. Do the loaded fonts change if you comment one of the files?

@UlrikeFischer I am not sure, but I would say no because the fonts are there since page 1. :)
Let me try, hold the phone. :)
@UlrikeFischer: they don't change.
@UlrikeFischer I sent you a better email. :)

6:52 PM
Interesting CTAN announcements today: arara, tikzmarmots and tikzducks!

@CarLaTeX Coincidence? I. THINK. KNOT!
Oh wait.

@samcarter sorry for going on your nerves, but the marmot with crown is more likely the marmot queen, marmots do not have a king (but this is pretty much the only thing in common with the English ;-)

@marmot I like your new avatar :)

@CarLaTeX It's @samcarter's magic ;-)

@marmot I know :)

6:54 PM
@marmot ooh God save the Marmot?
By the way: vimeo.com/279491730

@PauloCereda Better than God shave the queen ;-)

7:16 PM
@PauloCereda sorry had to make Wiener Schnitzel ... but beside this: imho the roman upright font is only used on page 2.

@UlrikeFischer ooh but isn't that Austrian? :)
@UlrikeFischer Oh let me check again! Sorry!
I am not used to reading logs. :)
@UlrikeFischer: never paid attention to the log about fonts. It says something about unavailable fonts...
Never saw this before...
I am such a newbie... :(

@PauloCereda send me the log ...

@UlrikeFischer Just a minute.

Goal!

GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAL

7:30 PM
@PauloCereda That one hit the post.

@egreg it did!

@PauloCereda lbw?

8:21 PM
Goal!!!! Mario Mandžukić!

@UlrikeFischer :)

8:37 PM
@PauloCereda France-Croatia

@egreg Go Croatia!

@egreg we like Franciacorta

Another (Br)exit for the English?

8:54 PM
@PauloCereda it appears so.

@PauloCereda don't games end after 45 minutes?

@DavidCarlisle Sorry.

@DavidCarlisle ooh additional time

9:14 PM
@PauloCereda I get error 131 which this page suggests might be an issue with acrobat rather than pdf: helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/multi/…
@PauloCereda see also
58
Q: How to overcome Acrobat Reader error 131 with a pdfLaTeX doc?

Luis E.I'm generating a PDF document with pdflatex (more precisely, latexmk invoked from TexMaker 3.4. My LaTeX install is TeXLive 20120719). I can read the document fine in Okular and Gmail's attachment preview, but a colleague that runs Acrobat Reader on Windows reports: "There was a problem reading t...

@DavidCarlisle I reached the same page, so thought I was unlucky... :(
@DavidCarlisle I will try the proposed approach, let us see...

9:36 PM
@DavidCarlisle, @UlrikeFischer: \pdfobjcompresslevel=0 fixed the issue.
@DavidCarlisle, @UlrikeFischer: would you know why? I am very puzzled.

@PauloCereda hard to know if pdftex isn't compressing correctly or acrobat isn't understanding the compressed stream correctly

@DavidCarlisle er.... quack? :) I don't know. :)

@PauloCereda it wouldn't have happened if you'd used emacs

@DavidCarlisle oh no

It's nice to be in a part of Italy where the restaurants have signs that say "No pizza! Local food only".

9:49 PM
@DavidCarlisle minitoc uses the rather curious construction \expandafter\noexpand\@ifundefined{c@\mtc@mtade@abbrev depth} in the definition of \mtcsetdepth and this explodes with tl18:
\documentclass{book}
\usepackage{minitoc}
\mtcsetdepth{minitoc}{2}
\begin{document}
TEST
\end{document}

@AlanMunn ooh where are you now?

@PauloCereda Siena

@AlanMunn ooh inside a Fiat
/ba dum tss

@PauloCereda If by Fiat you mean inside a medieval walled city, then yes. :)

@AlanMunn of course not! ^^ :D

9:57 PM
@PauloCereda Picture not needed. I got the joke the first time. :)

@AlanMunn ooh :) Also when you said Fiat, I could say you were inside a box of matches. :)

@PauloCereda well object compression (which is not the same as the normal pdf compression) is rather new (pdf 1.5) perhaps the older adobe handles it not correctly.

@UlrikeFischer Ah interesting! I will keep a note. Should I define it before \documentclass or the placement does not matter, as long as it is in the preamble?

@PauloCereda And the "if by X you mean Y" is a common joke structure. E.g.
YouTube is a place for people to share their ideas. If by people you mean 13 year old girls and by ideas you mean how they love the Jonas Brothers.

@AlanMunn ooh purity rings

10:02 PM
@PauloCereda The fact that you know this is both disturbing and amusing.

@AlanMunn There's a South Park episode about Jonas Brothers and these rings. There's also Mickey Mouse. :)

@PauloCereda Preamble should be ok, but normally the earlier the better. You could also try to set the pdf version to 1.4.

@PauloCereda Ah, that makes it less disturbing.

@AlanMunn Thanks for the vote of trust. :)
@UlrikeFischer Is there any caveat? The object thingy seems to solve the issue.

@PauloCereda no. It only makes the pdf larger.

10:06 PM

@UlrikeFischer Ah cool! Thanks!

@UlrikeFischer eek I wonder if we need to "adopt" minitoc...

@DavidCarlisle Eek is definitely the appropriate word.

@AlanMunn github setup coming up....

10:24 PM
@AlanMunn The last time I went in Siena cathedral the floor was uncovered! :-)

@UlrikeFischer @AlanMunn github.com/minitoc/minitoc

@DavidCarlisle well I guess someone will have to adapt the @ifundefined call ...

@UlrikeFischer "someone" being...
@egreg you were there before they laid the floor?

@DavidCarlisle someone who understands what the call is actually doing ;-)

@UlrikeFischer first I need to understand the funky build system so I can build it before I change anything

10:39 PM
@egreg Yes it is now, too!

@DavidCarlisle You have nothing comparable: the floor of the cathedral is usually covered by wooden panels in order to preserve it.
