i'm trying to install matplotlib on my work laptop and i'm getting errors:
Exception:

would this be a good question for the main site?
(I've never been quite clear on what exactly is on-topic on Super User so I thought I'd double check before posting.)

@LWChris I went ahead and made both edits, also removed the last line as it sounded as a rant.
@Boris_yo No idea, I haven't watched a single game. Brazil plays again this Sunday, but I'm not watching it either.

Try again with Python running as administrator.

When in doubt, sudo.
What could possibly go wrong?

5:44 PM
@heather it might also be valid on StackOverflow, but I think Superuser is probably a better fit, and other people have asked similar questions about e.g. installing it in Cygwin there

@bwDraco yup, that worked.
thanks.

this is against the intergalactic law

@Hakase the claim of "more browsing time" may be true, but the real emphasis should be on the quality of that web browsing rather than the quantity!
Needless to say, Edge simply can't compare to Chrome or Firefox.

more time but it's spent waiting for the damn thing to load a page
anyway
do tablets have a way to increase battery life by reducing max cpu speed or something?
I've tried using the "medium" limitation setting on a samsung tablet, android 7 and it seems to not give that extra 10-20% lifetime
and using the max saving mode multiplies the projected time remaining but it doesn't match the actual remaining time
so is it just lies or is there some effect but it can't be reached because of the non-OLED screen or something else?
I'm only reading text and flipping pages every once in a while at pretty low brightness, no games, airplane mode

turning the screen off is the best way

yea that works great

you're not going to save more than 10% in any other wayt, when your screen is eating 90% of your power.

6:27 PM
well technically it's about 30% if the thing doesn't lie

It lies, if I use even 1 sec of bluetooth and 10 hours of screen + wifi + GPS + 4G it says bluetooth used 90% of the battery. Every time.

1 hour later…
7:36 PM
Making phone calls & data usage use a lot of battery too. Wifi not as much.

Q: Coworker demands immediate assistance when having computer trouble

aaaI'm a developer at an agency and there is a photographer who works in office. She often has trouble with her computer, accounts, the internet, etc. so she comes to me when she needs assistance with things such as clearing cached files when she needs more space, downloading files, finding a file ...

This feels like it would handle a #shittylifeprotip answer of "Start assuming she find you attractive and wants to start dating" quite well.

lol
Sooooooooo those ftp issues are weirder than ever

9:01 PM
THE GOOD PLACE IS AN AMAZING SHOW

Yea?
I have it in Plex, but I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.

@MichaelFrank DO SO DO SO DO SO

The wife is hooked on Love Island at the moment

Also, watch Brooklyn 99

Will need to wean her off it.
Yea, B99 is fab.

9:03 PM
@MichaelFrank it's brilliant!
@MichaelFrank “The Good Place!”. It’s made by Michael Schur too so you’ll enjoy it!
And it has both the actors of both Pimento and Kevin from B99!

Good Place is definitely enjoyable, but then again, virtually anything with Kristen Bell is entertaining!

Man, I really want to read this, but it's such a long article, and I'm too exhausted :/ wired.com/story/tezos-blockchain-love-story-horror-story

Ave
some random person dm'd me asking for help with a thing that I didn't develop
because "you developed Elixire so you're good dev"

@Ave That's a compliment :)

Ave
I didn't develop Elixire.

9:17 PM
Oh.

Ave
I am part of the development team, one of the four and I am pretty much the owner and sysadmin of the elixi.re service, but I'm not "the developer".
I'm "a developer" at most
whatever
apparently they forgot to cd
who uses python on windows anyways
also the developer was uh
they could just reach the developer of that software
I don't get people

@Ave Uh, you aren't using the free .ml domains from freenom, are you?

Ave
today was one of the busiest days of my life and I had to waste time dealing with that

@rahuldottech Get a screen reader!
@rahuldottech read2me.online

Ave
@rahuldottech most of the domains are donations, we have a number of freenom domains through two donors, but we banned them a couple months ago and removed most of them

@Ave Because if so, be warned, they just hijacked a couple of my testing domains within the last couple of days.

Ave
yeah we're aware of freenom being bad

@Ave I'd been hearing about freenom hijacking their free domains for a long time, but it had never happened to me, in the many years that I'd been using them. Then like a couple of days ago it finally happened. Luckily, I'd moved all my important stuff to proper domains owned by me

Ave
Thanks
we'll be working on a project to check domain state on a daily basis for hijack prevention purposes

@Ave You're welcome, Ms. Boss Lady :)

Ave
9:24 PM
lol
guess I don't get sleep

@Ave I'm curious, why are you using gitlab and not github?

Ave
see FAQ
at the bottom
hm I never committed my change about microsoft buying github

Darn... I totally just deleted a "CAUSE MICROSOFT" comment...

lol. I'd guessed that was the reason too.
@Ave It's cool that you support SVG. You have set up something to block SVG files from executing code though, haven't you? shkspr.mobi/blog/2018/02/this-svg-always-shows-todays-date

Satya Nadella seems to be implementing "the new world order" at Microsoft. I am cautiously optimistic regarding their business moves.

9:31 PM
@Ave Also, why is it compulsory to have a discord account to sign up?

Ave
@rahuldottech it's not compulsory
you can just write idk#0001 and I'll accept your account
@rahuldottech pushed the thingy, rebuilding frontend
time for fun
@rahuldottech why would it be necessary to prevent that as long as we're hosting it on our site? I'll bring up using SRI hashes tho

@Ave I'm not sure of all the reasons. But if, say, someone links directly to the image. If I open it in my browser, the code would get executed. This would also probably happen if I saved the webpage and opened it locally.
There's also the case that someone links to said image in an "upload image from URL" field on an external website, and then if the SVG gets uploaded on their server, they would get any malicious JS embedded in the image. You could argue that it's not your fault, since said service should be checking for the same thing, but I don't really know
Lastly, you risk getting your domains blacklisted by Google and the such if images on your server host malicious JS.

Ave
OH
YOU MEAN LIKE
PEOPLE UPLOADING SVG FILES WITH JS IN THEM

YEAH

@rahuldottech I use a .cf domain from freenom
But I'm literally the only person who uses it

9:42 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy Be careful, don't host important stuff on it.
@ThatBrazilianGuy I did so extensively till like literally two days ago

I don't Host anything on it

@ThatBrazilianGuy Super cheap domains on namecheap. Like dirt cheap. Get one.

Ave
@rahuldottech renew is high tm
also I dislike nc nowadays
they suck in terms of actual control over domain

@Ave Why so?

Yeah, cheap for the first year

9:44 PM
@Ave ah

Ave
they don't enable dnssec on most of tlds
even on those that supportit
I like internet.bs bc they support dnssec on everything
also much better UI

@ThatBrazilianGuy Life hack! Get a new one each year!

@Ave I'll check 'em out

Ave
ALSO

9:45 PM
Life hack: skip the middle man, make people memorize your IP.

Ave
we run virus scans on every upload :3

Load balancing? Easy, just make them memorize multiple IPs!

@Ave That's great, but they don't usually find malicious JS until it's already been discovered and classified as such by a human.

@Ave I have a vbs file which passes every virustotal scanner, except one

Ave
@rahuldottech I know

9:47 PM
I... Might or might not have accidentally clicked it

@ThatBrazilianGuy share it! :P

Thanks Wine for being shitty

Ave
@ThatBrazilianGuy most viruses you write are going to bypass most AVs

I wanna share it to malware researchers

@ThatBrazilianGuy I am a malware researcher
@Ave Literally every one I've written is not detected //evillaugh

9:49 PM
@Ave I didn't write it, I wouldn't know where to start. (And WHY would I, ffs).

@ThatBrazilianGuy Why not?

Ave
I stopped writing bad stuffs

@Ave I did too. But mostly because I don't have time anymore. And it got boring. But it used to be fun. Might get back at it eventually. I never actually use any of it, unethically or otherwise, so meh.

So it is a very very very very ibfuscated VBS but its first line checks your locale ID and stops if it's not 1406
Which is Brazil

i totally forgot that disney owns guybrush now

9:59 PM
@Burgi ;_;

he has cowered to the man

The Steam Summer Sale is on – great deals on thousands of games until July 4, 2018.

What's a cowered? Does it involve throwing cows?

@bwDraco Steam, pls no.
3

lol

10:05 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy shied away from
like flinching but more permenant
@bwDraco oh ffs... i'm meant to be saving money.... ;)

@Burgi This comment reminded me of this game: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dink_Smallwood

!!/define cowered

@bwDraco cowered simple past tense and past participle of cower

!!/define cower

@bwDraco [cower](http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki?curid=260546) (intransitive) To crouch or cringe, or to avoid or shy away from something, in fear.
He'd be useless in war. He'd just cower in his bunker until the enemy came in and shot him, or until the war was over.

11:02 PM
rude access
I was gonna ask about a way to compare new and old cpus but not by just multiplying the cores by frequencies, but like on some real load like zipping speed or… yea you can probably compare them by zipping speed
