You finish this answer up with "Honestly, he probably doesn't care. This is your life and your money, you can't just short-change yourself because you don't want to hurt someone's feelings: well, if you have failed 3 times, he needs to try harder.", which I completely agree with. However, it's exactly for those reasons I don't agree that you should lie to the instructor. If the whole "lying is wrong" reason's not convincing, then consider that the instructor might not realize they should try harder if you tell them you "have to go" but want to pick up lessons again. — Lord Farquaad 1 min ago

To me, this sounds like an XY problem. You need to get out of this relationship while you still can. The last thing you want is for her to teach your children that this sort of thing is OK. — Eric Seastrand 1 min ago

Could you clarify the setting of these situations you find yourself in? Or do you want advice that pertains to any sort of argument/debate? I put in an answer, but I can focus it to be more specialized if you focus your question — Clay07g 2 mins ago

I respectfully disagree with this answer. I think that putting it out there like that is going to unintentionally offend people and make them defensive which could lead to a more heated or awkward situation. — IceC 20 secs ago

@IceC Can you be more specific? I edited that point to be more clear. I also deleted the important note, because it really wasn't important. The question is fairly broad, so I'm trying to cover all the bases. — Clay07g 43 secs ago

No need. That edit made what you were trying to say much clearer to me. I had originally misinterpreted what you meant. +1 from me now. — IceC 1 min ago
