@ff524 and @Fomite Another possible reason is that many students prefer to study homogeneous material. In my classes, for which a standard textbook doesn't exist on the market, I usually suggest them to backup my lectures with chapters taken from different books. It appears that students have trouble studying from different sources using different notations (which sometimes differ from the those I used on the blackboard) and different writing styles.

@MassimoOrtolano That reminds me of this ACTUAL EMAIL I once got from a student:
> Hello Professor,
>
> I noticed whenever you upload a file or lesson to [our LMS], you mismatch your file type which is quite cumbersome to deal with when trying to print aforementioned lesson or file. For example an assignment would be in .doc format while the solutions to it would be in .pdf format. Another example is lessons being in .ppt or .pdf.
>
> I was hoping you would be kind enough to be consistent with file types in the future.

@ff524 Gee! I've never received an email like that one, but, sometimes, when we are in a lab session, I remind my students that they should turn on the brain, and I'd have probably answered this way to such an email ;-)

Fun fact: This year my university will organize a two-day seminar on how to be a better supervisor. I plan to attend and I told my PhD students that during the seminar they will probably tell me things I should avoid doing with my students, that I already know that I should avoid, but that I'd do anyway.
A PhD student of mine told me that she's going to keep a record of all the episodes in which I kept an execrable behaviour and that she will deliver a thick envelope to the seminar instructor.

@MassimoOrtolano That sounds like a very interesting seminar! I wish my university would run one like that. Please share with us anything interesting that you learn from it.

@ff524 I would be complaining that you use DOC or PPT for anything.

@ff524 I'll do! But I hope I can attend: it appears that the earliest event is already overbooked, and the next event will be in spring when I have classes. I asked my administration if they can take into account this and adjust the bookings. Let's see.

@Wrzlprmft Actually, there was another instructor for this course and he was the one who kept uploading stuff to the LMS. (When we got this email, he asked me: "Is this a real problem? Am I missing something?" I told him he was not :) )
