Of note is that the Intel HEDT boards tend to get extremely expensive. The R5E was $540 at launch. R6E pricing has not been announced but I think it'll be in the ballpark of $600.

What's happening is that I installed nodejs via apt-get as it says to on the install page, but while nodejs is a valid bash command, npm isn't. So, I tried using the curl method from the npm GitHub wiki's troubleshooting guide, but that trips up with a JS error, shown below:

I doubt the AMD X399 (Socket TR4) boards are going to be cheap, either, by virtue of the extremely large number of PCIe lanes and the extraordinarily large socket. My instinct tells me there's going to be a price floor of $350-400 due to the platform's intrinsic complexity.

If you encounter issues with SSH, that's usually because your client's encoding or font is wonky. Happens often with PuTTY.

I guess in between assembly and us opening the box, it worked itself loose and the card eventually dropped out.

also, Knox is a bad example... because it takes ages to find a vuln, and most rooted phones are by ... unlocking the bootloader legitimately, and then flashing custom bootloaders & ROMs

IIRC it took almost a year to find a vuln to get into Verizon S7s

But yea the reliance on a LSM and a secure kernel is a bit concerning.

@allquixotic Yup, the single biggest issue I have with VMs is... I've got ZFS with an ARC on the host, why do I need ext4 with another cache inside the guest?! That also messes up ballooning

Pity that Clear Containers still needs ext4 for DAX (cache bypass)... if it supported all filesystems...

Q: Which Xeon processors have hardware support for H.265 encoding/decoding?

Looking to build a rendering machine for H.265 video: would I be better off with a Core i7/i9 because of built-in hardware accelerated H.265 encoding/decoding, or can Xeon processors support it as well? If so, which ones?

I doubt 4C/8T will do for the OP's workload.

HEDT processors don't have an IGP that's usable for this purpose.
