Whom do we have to talk to regarding beta progress?

@Raphael probably Grace Note, Robert Cartaino, Aarthi are the best bets - oh and Anna Lear! Look for the community team members here: stackexchange.com/about/team

@Raphael Hm?

@Ninefingers Thanks!
@GraceNote Ha, you moved first! Do you know the plans for cs.SE?
Our private beta was extended; we the had a surge of questions but it trickled down again (obviously). We feel like we need fresh people.

@Raphael The plans are actually about the be discussed, now that we're approaching your second week of private beta.

@GraceNote Cool. Do you have an estimate on when we will hear from you?

1:57 PM
Nope!

Too bad. :-/
Well then, we are eagerly awaiting your judgement.

@Raphael I might have a question about k-way mergesort
but I need to find a way to phrase it such that I don't violate Cousera's honor code

@IvoFlipse Great!
@IvoFlipse So it is homework from one of those online courses?

@Raphael yeah, I don't want a direct answer to their quiz question, but rather a better understanding about the algorithm itself
probably that understanding will help me answer the question
but I just need to come up with the right form

@IvoFlipse Good luck! It is quite possible that the question will evaporate once you have phrased it. :) cf. Jeff's presentation with the story about the teddy bear in the TA's office. (loved that)

@Raphael Well I don't want it to evaporate, but help others get to the understanding a bit faster ;)

@IvoFlipse Fair enough. Looking forward to it! I seem to remember that k-way merge was interesting.

2:49 PM
We have been observing a lack of questions from practitioners (and even applying scientists), simply because (theoretical) university types are the majority of (active) users in private beta. We are looking forward to a more diverse user group.

@Raphael I just saw that @IvoFlipse has a question about k-way mergesort - considering that I spent 8 hours per evening over the past 4-5 days debugging and implementing k-way mergesort, I might be of assistance :)

@pauloebermann @thomaspornin fyi - a user on security.se is pushing hard to move some of the questions tagged cryptography there to crypto.se. Initially, user wanted to move all 400. I've argued against moving the lot and am mildly inclined to suggest not moving any, but am not really that opposed to a few coming over. Discussion is here: meta.security.stackexchange.com/questions/734/…
I used fragments of Thomas' awesomeness in my argument :P
@avid @hendrikbrummermann @roryalsop ccing you guys r.e. AviD's ping to me from your meta, so we can work something out.
Sorry for the mass ping - but best everyone knows what's going on.
@RebeccaChernoff any chance you can ask balpha for the mod ping bot in here, for mods? Would make life a bit easier :)
whois crypto mods
nope

8:14 PM
@Ninefingers or motivate @GeorgeEdison to implement it

@Gilles Oooo not a bad idea.

8:40 PM
@Ninefingers (cc @HendrikBrummermann @AviD)I'm with you on this. Leave old ones, unless they are unanswered, and keep doing what we are doing with new ones - discussing edge cases in chat. If there are selected ones which make sense to pop over - flag 'em, sure, but I don't think we will want to move many.

8:51 PM
@RoryAlsop I can't see moving them is going to help much; and if we do it'll have to be bit at a time. If there's a huge uproar to have them moved, I'll be persuaded, but as is I am mildly against it.
As they say, one does not simply moderate on old questions.

@Ninefingers if the community vote 'em - sure, but as you say - I think we have them in a good place already...we moved those ones most relevant over when crypto went live

And in other news, graph in the mod tools is starting to look better.

@Ninefingers just when the CS site is about to go public and subsume Crypto (:
I expect Crypto.SE will keep going, since it's an established community by now

@Ninefingers excellent!

@Gilles I'll surrender to the decisions of the powers that be (as a programmer) as Mr Trapp kindly put it :)
I'm glad we finally got around to having a CS site, anyway, even if a lot of it is a bit beyond me.

9:33 PM
@Gilles It will be interesting to see what will happen with crypto.SE; it seems to be covered completely by others sites, but completely by none (but itself).
