@kenorb I knew it.

or Secure
Secure Security

8:37 AM
@kenorb Are you in?

9:17 AM
It sounds like a joke, that IoT doesn't have any S for security.

9:59 AM
@kenorb Maybe I should write a book.
The Ghost of IoT.

1 hour later…
11:03 AM
My hacking simulator setup.
Someone who doesn't know about these programs may probably think you're really hacking.
Well nmap is really use in hacking situation so that's a real hacking tool.
Kind of.
@kenorb Do you like it?

2 hours later…
12:52 PM
iotop, nmap, the 3rd is probably the screensaver?
you can use bash to the same what nmap does
yes, like it, have the same green colors in my terminal
looks more hackish

@kenorb bmon,nmap and cmatrix
bmon is a band with monitor

What about this?

Cool
cmatrix is for the matrix part.

Now, find the chat tab.
Not all of the Chrome windows are shown, but you get the idea.

ubuntu@clamav~$ sudo clamscan -r -i /

1:01 PM
20 Chrome profiles, each with 20-100 tabs, not to mention like 9 different web browsers sometimes.

@kenorb Do you have an antivirus on your Linux system(s)?

macOS, no
never had any, even on Windows

because I was collecting the viruses, or were using some in a good way
so I didn't want anybody to touch my stuff/viruses
or remove them, or block access to them
I always knew if I had one running in my system by looking in the taskmgr
So I can remove them manually if I need.

Is it bad to tell someone your computer and network security setup?
Like is it bad to tell someone what AV you use firewall IDS and etc.

1:08 PM
Once I had one trojan, took over the guys IRC channel who was controlling the bots, take down all the other bots, as revenge.
Because trojan/bot had to know the password to connect to other bots.

And about my question?
I have been wondering for a long time about it. (Not really)

Which question, I never had any antivirus, it's just slowing your computer, waste of energy.
Especially not on Linux.

Is it bad to tell someone your computer and network security setup?

Depends, you can share your local IP, but not public.

Is it on topic for:

1:13 PM
It's broad and opinion based, since network setup is ambiguous.

You can tell your public IP, you still can't do much

@kenorb What if I where to tell you:
Security Doesn't really exist.

It exists, but it's never 100%

I believe a ghost is more likely to be more real than security.
Or is it the other way around.
Which do you think is more real ghost or security?
Damit
@kenorb I always knew you had some hacking knowledge.

1:27 PM
hacking is ambiguous word
at work people can change one line in some code, and they call it a hack

To become a Hacker:
Learn computer networking
Learn about the different Operating Systems
Learn programming
Learn the tools and how there work
Learn Computer Hardware
Read some books on hacking
Watch some documentaries
Keep up to date on technology
Take a hacking course
and in around what ever time you will be a hacker. I think
Well if you didn't become a hacker you still gain a lot of knowledge.
So be great full.

1:45 PM
To be hacker, you need to be curious and question everything.
Hacker never accept that something works, he needs to find by him-self and break it to prove it doesn't.
Hacker has strong need of testing every possible way to negate the claim, if you tell something works or it's secure, then it's already a challenge accepted.

Maybe I can become a hacker by 20.
White Hat
In fact it's in my nickname.

Hacker never gives up, it always do wants he want to do. If he says he will break it, you can already accept the fact as already broken, it's like Chuck Norris in real.

Henry the White Hat Hacker

White or Black, doesn't matter, information should be free, no matter what.

@kenorb Free speech?

1:52 PM
not exactly, it's about freeing the information, hiding any information shouldn't be illegal, that's the philosophy of hacking
from the hacker perspective - hiding any information is dark and evil, we're living in the reality where it's opposite, sharing the information is bad and evil
many people went to life jail time for sharing something that public should know

Meeting with feetwet
Topic: the Weapons proposal
I have to get in contact with feetwet.

why

@kenorb Because he/she seems very interested in my proposal.
and for promotion reasons.
Inviting feetwet
Maybe he/she is busy

From the law perspective?

Now feetwet has been summoned.
I don't really like to invite people to a chatroom that much.
I think that there think it's annoying.
Last seen 21 minutes ago.
@kenorb Well when he/she comes that's if he/she comes you can ask.
I may have been too late.

2:43 PM
@feetwet When you get here ping me.

1 hour later…
4:06 PM

4:28 PM
@HenryWHHackv2.0 Hey there!

@kenorb He/She is here.

He ;)

Ok
I have summoned you here because you seem to be interested in my proposal.

Oh yes, have been for years!

Weapons

Proposed Q&A site for weapon experts and enthusiasts to ask Questions and get Answers about any type of weapon, from ancient edged weapons and archery to guns and modern tactical or strategic military systems.

Currently in definition.

4:31 PM
I started two of the failed precursors
Looks like this one might finally make it?

I'm not familiar with "final review." I thought it just rolled straight into commitment once it has the required numbers. Are they going to relent this time?

Any ideas on promoting the proposal?
Besides reddit

Just to get the votes needed to get out of definition you mean?

Yes
All we need really is more people to vote on the example questions.

4:35 PM
Yeah, I've struggled with that before. I mean, I have active accounts on literally hundreds of gun-related forums. But I haven't come up with a pitch that explains why this is in anyone's interest who's not already into stack exchange.

I'd be happy to post one that elegantly crossed that divide.
Maybe I should draft one and we can sort of community-wiki it into something that can be used for that purpose.

If you will not be spamming you have my permission.

Reddit of course is an easier sell than a traditional forum. Sounds like you folks already maxed that out?

4:38 PM
Man, I can't believe that wasn't enough...

Well I deleted the post.

See, that's the tricky part: We need to explain how this is a complement to Reddit/forums/etc., not trying to poach their users.

Community Ad?
maybe?

I did those in the past, and even got some up on a few other SE sites, but I don't think they made a difference
Well, obviously not enough of a difference :(
I'm thinking something more like a post for the "General" or "Other Miscellaneous" subforums of the gun forums that goes something like:

Sorry, got hit by the terrible kernel crash.

4:42 PM
"Do you know Stackoverflow? Do you like that? Well we're trying to do the same thing for weapons. Just need a little more interest and it'll spring to life for free!"
So some number of gun guys will be like, "Yeah, sure Stackoverflow, I'm there every day because I'm a coder. wow, for guns that would be awesome!"
And the rest ... probably too hard to explain what it is and why it complements their forum
I wonder if I should just post something quick to ar15.com and see what sort of reactions it gets...

@feetwet Maybe you know some people from the forum who can just come and vote on the questions.
It's all what's needed.

That's the other side of it: I don't see why people already on Area51 don't just stop by to vote even if they don't want to follow....

@feetwet Oh I always thought you was a female.

@HenryWHHackv2.0 Sometimes I think my wife wishes I was...

@feetwet Yes I thought that posting the proposal on reddit was going to make it move forward by the next day.
What are the chances of the proposal making it to the commit phase.
in 3 months?
Is anyone here?
still here?

5:02 PM
Well I think we should do what we can do promote it
it can certainly fail. Previous attempts had over 100 followers and just failed due to lack of votes on questions.

And another problem is this one:
People downvote the 10+ questions.
Before the proposal was at just 11 example questions needed.
now it's back up to 17
Ok people are free to vote.
But why the 10+ ones?
@feetwet So did you make your contacts yet?
Get in touch with anyone, spread the word etc?
Wait
@kenorb Maybe this isn't the proposal that will make it.
or maybe it is.

5:19 PM
It's very close, so hope on the restart, the same people will join.

Yes
Maybe if I go into a chatroom that is full of users and say:
Please follow the proposal Weapons on Area51.SE
no that looks spammy

You can just create a new post in area51 informing the users to not vote on questions above 10, as it doesn't make sense.
Existence of the post it-self will draw some attention. And mention that this proposal will be closed soon anyway.

5:34 PM
@kenorb How do I but that in words?
You know what.

Warm reminder on voting top-voted questions, figure out something.
Or ask people if they can move their votes into questions with less 10
Or any interesting non-spammy post which can draw some attention.

Nothing like this:

5:55 PM
That was embarrassing

You didn't ask the question.

@kenorb I accidentally posted it.

You need to ask some question, about something that you don't know, at least it should look like.

Incomplete post
@kenorb Can you do it for me? ;)

To do what exactly?

5:57 PM
Post a meta for me I have zero ideas.
The worst thing you want to do is accidentally post an incomplete question.

I think the proposal is still in a good position.
I could ask whether people can move their votes to lower question, but it's stupid to ask, and I'm sure I'll get downvotes for that

6:11 PM
@feetwet Has anything came up yet?

I'll try to come up with something later; not sure when I'll have time exactly

ok
I will have to use the oldest trick in the book.
