@SS. Don't they provide any REST/SOAP api for this?
in The Screening Room, 1 min ago, by A J
Well, you can extract the results only if the structure of this website allows you to.
in The Screening Room, 34 secs ago, by A J
Nope, using any web programming language.

@SS. Sorry, I don't understand your question.
@SS. Each verse page has the verse number written in English. So if there was a way to take all the verse pages and extract the English text from them along with the verse numbers, that would allow you to compile the full Naalayira Divya Prabandham in English.

@KeshavSrinivasan He asked how can you understand what the site contains when everything is in Tamil. Maybe he was asking how were you navigating to different pages.
@SS. what did Ankit say?

@TheDestroyer Google searching numbers is one way to do it. The other way is to use translate.google.com

@KeshavSrinivasan Google Translate is now good.

5:59 AM
@TheDestroyer @SS. I wrote up a question to figure out how to do this:
How do I sequentially extract English text from a Tamil website?

The Naalayira Divya Prabandham is a 4000-verse collection of Hindu poems written in the Tamil language. The website http://dravidaveda.org has a web page for each of the 4000 verses. Each verse page gives the Tamil verse, a word-by-word Tamil commentary on the verse, and an English translation For instance, [here](http://dravidaveda.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=1379&ml=1) is the web page for verse 1008.

My question, is there any way I can extract the English translations of all 4000 verses in order, so
@TheDestroyer @SS. But what Stackexchange site should I post this in? Stackoverflow, or Super User, or what?

@KeshavSrinivasan SO is better. But they will downvote your question as you are asking for code.

SS.
@KeshavSrinivasan I agree with @TheDestroyer

@KeshavSrinivasan Mr Alien may help you. He has good background on websites and he might even know Web programming languages (such as Java Script) and networking.

SS.
@TheDestroyer AJ is asking does the website have REST/SOAP avi. /cc @KeshavSrinivasan
He said it will be easy if website has it.

@SS. Actually, i extracted some text using Jsoup API in Java. It's a HTML parser for Java.

SS.
6:06 AM
I asked a user AJ about this. HE said he will check and tell later. @KeshavSrinivasan
@TheDestroyer So you are not getting it continuously?

@SS. It does allow to extract text. But i don't know much about REST.

@TheDestroyer So what Stackexchange site would be willing to write code for me?

SS.
it's api not avi

@KeshavSrinivasan i think no SE site writes code. There are many questions asked on SO to write code but those questions are closed within a second.
I think Mr Alien will help you. It's better to ask him.

@TheDestroyer OK, then Superuser may be my best bet.

6:09 AM
@SS. Actually, i didn't try with other methods. I think there are other methods. But my knowledge on networking is poor.

@TheDestroyer OK, I have his email address from his time as mod.

@KeshavSrinivasan No. Superuser is for PC related issues. not programming related things.
@KeshavSrinivasan You can ping him here or ask him personally.

@TheDestroyer Yeah, but I think they probably won't close my question.

@KeshavSrinivasan But Superuser is not related to programming. They may migrate it SO.
And they will close.

SS.
asking for code directly is not allowed on SO. @KeshavSrinivasan

6:13 AM
@TheDestroyer Haha, it looks like I have no avenues :-) Anyway I'll try posting on Super User and see what happens.
@TheDestroyer Oh, another option is Web Apps.SE.

@KeshavSrinivasan No. Don't post. You will get downvotes. It's better if you ask Bhargav or Mr Alien or CHinmay Sarupia or Ankit or someone else.

@TheDestroyer Haha, I don't care about downvotes. Anyway I can post the question and ask others as well.

@KeshavSrinivasan Ok.

SS.
@KeshavSrinivasan Asking in chat or personally is better.
@KeshavSrinivasan So on which site are you posting?
Don't say SO...

@KeshavSrinivasan i think programming is not difficult if you know MATLAB. Maybe you should know syntax of a language. Do you know Python?
@KeshavSrinivasan I suggest you to ask our friends here first. Mostly, Mr Alien can solve your problem.

6:19 AM
@TheDestroyer @SS. I posted the question:

@TheDestroyer OK, I don't want to superping him, so I may email him.

@KeshavSrinivasan ok.
@KeshavSrinivasan See. It got one downvote. They hate the sentence "can someone write the code for me".

@TheDestroyer Haha yeah

SS.
"so can someone write the code for me" - this is not a free code writing site, your question is off-topic here. " or give me easy-to-understand instructions for how to do it?" - if there would be easy instructions to create programs then programmer would be a job so well paid and reputed like now. — Máté Juhász 2 mins ago
Haha...

@SS. I took out the request for code, let's see if they reopen it.

SS.
@KeshavSrinivasan Fingers crossed.

6:48 AM
@TheDestroyer @SS. Now I posted it on Stackoverflow, without the code request:

A: How do I sequentially extract English text from different web pages of a Tamil website?

PandyaYou can do with software/commands that dump content of webpages into terminal or console. e.g lynx, w3m, links, etc. (Though it is also possible with wget, curl, aria2 etc). Visit manual pages of respective commands for further information. Here I'm providing sample example by using lynx: #!/bi...

@SS. no

12:12 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan If you're unable to execute those command on your Windows, tell me, I can do it on my GNU/Linux and then will send you npd.txt :)

12:24 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Btw, take a student badge on SO :)

12:45 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan Why have you cross posted questions on multiple sites?

A: Is cross-posting a question on multiple Stack Exchange sites permitted if the question is on-topic for each site?

BinaryMisfitNO Ask the question on the site you think is most applicable. If, like in this case, it does not get any answer, ask a moderator to migrate the question, or alternatively, delete it and re-ask it. Each site is focused on a specific topic area. If you have a question you feel is too ambiguous, e...

SS.
2:39 PM
@anuvaramban I don't know but killing kings who were unjust is also one of the mottos of Krishna avatar.
@anuvaramban Because bhudevi pleads lord to take up the avatar because the burden is more on her.
Anothr name change. Good to see @anuvaramban @LakshmiNarayanan

@Pandya Yeah, I don't know anything about how to execute a command like this. So if it's not too much trouble, can you please do it for me?

@SS. cool, it's showing up now

Lakshmi NarayananKripacharya, is one of the Chiranjivi(Immortal) mentioned in the Sapta Chiranjivi Stuthi - Ashwathaama Balirvyaaso Hanumanshach Vibhishanha Krupascha Parshuramascha Saptaitey Chiranjivinaha My question is, how and why did he gain his immortality?

@SS. @KeshavSrinivasan @All ^^^

@KeshavSrinivasan Ok. Yes, I'll :)

4:06 PM
@SS. This is same reason for Krishna, Rama, Parasurama, kalki..
@LakshmiNarayanan Kripacharya has amsa of Rudra like Aswathama.

Q: Which of Shiva's Rudras was Kripacharya an incarnation of?

Keshav SrinivasanAs I discuss in this answer, the Adi Parva of the Mahabharata describes exactly who incarnated as each of the major characters in the Mahabharata. Concerning Kripacharya, guru of the Pandavas and Kauravas, it says this: And, O king, that Brahman sage who, on earth, was known by the name of K...

Hey all check out this new song - youtu.be/vSpABFys6TQ

5:42 PM
@SwiftPushkar Oh, that's a nice song. By the way, before this I didn't know that Purandaradasa was a follower of Madhvacharya.

5:56 PM
@SwiftPushkar Thank you!

@KeshavSrinivasan what is meaning of tirupadam?

@LakshmiNarayanan -anuvaramban ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ Nice Question ,keep it up .๐Ÿ’

@TheDestroyer - Hey bro , Will take your leave , GN , TC, Bye, ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ’

@SwiftPushkar gn.

@TheDestroyer - ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

@TheDestroyer Holy feet

@KeshavSrinivasan ohh. it is paadam. ok.
But in movie, Hatirama Bavaji sings "Tirupadamulaku" and puts flowers to Lakshmi Devi and Padmavati devi on Venkateswara's chest.

@SwiftPushkar I knew about Purandara Dasa before, because I've learned Carnatic music (self-taught), and a lot of the famous Carnatic songs are composed by him. But I didn't know his connection to Madhvacharya.
@TheDestroyer Do you know if it's been dubbed in Tamil?

6:20 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan I think it is not dubbed.
I don't know why it is not dubbed into Tamil and Hindi.

@TheDestroyer This article claims that it was or will be dubbed into Tamil and Hindi: timesofindia.indiatimes.com/entertainment/telugu/movies/news/…

But if you didn't watch Annamayya, you can watch it with English Subtitles . Most of the songs or keertanas are in Telugu (which is similar to Tamil and Sanskrit).
@KeshavSrinivasan Did you watch Annamayya movie?

@TheDestroyer No, I didn't. I've never watched a Telegu movie.

@KeshavSrinivasan Ragavendra Rao's movies are best Devotional classics. His famous movies are Annamayya, Sri Ramadasu with same Actor Nagarjuna.
@KeshavSrinivasan Annamayya movie is good, though i think most of content is artistic licence of story writers. We can watch movie for Keertanas (with MM keeravani's music) many times.
@KeshavSrinivasan i think it is not yet dubbed.
@KeshavSrinivasan watch climax in Annamayya movie. it's mind blowing. Best performances of all actors they could deliver.
