You might have already noticed comments under Todd Trimble's answer, but just to make sure - is this proposal about (completion) tag, too? — Martin Sleziak 42 mins ago
I saw. I did mean the completeness tag, though. It was a huge mess. — Asaf Karagila 3 mins ago
@ToddTrimble Judging by Asaf's comment, it seems that he meant his proposal for the tag . I am not sure whether a separated discussion about should be started - either as a new question or in the tag-management thread: Help improve tagging!
Admittedly has questions from different areas, but it probably looks a bit better than the questions in completeness tag did.
On math.SE there is tag called (complete-spaces). I suppose the name makes it clear that it is for metric (normed, uniform...) spaces, and it seems to be used quite consistently.

On math.SE there is also formal-completions tag. It seems to be in a worse shape. AFAICT the intended meaning when the tag was created was probably the usage in algebra. (Rings, modules, etc., but not completion of metric spaces.)

@MartinSleziak Eventually we should discuss completion, if only to settle on a tag description, but I'm in no hurry to do so now. Thanks for pointing me to Asaf's reply.

Thanks for the response!
I reacted mainly because I noticed that you retagged a post with tag . (Or maybe more of them - I have noticed the one I linked.)
And it was not clear whether this tag should be removed based on the same discussion on meta or whether it should be discussed separately.
Probably the tags related to completions and complete spaces over at math.SE could deserve a closer look. But there are plenty of problematic tags over there.
Sometimes it an is advantage that MO is a smaller site - less users with tag-creating privileges.
Looking at recently created tags the situation is not ideal on MO, but certainly better than on MSE.
For example, it is unclear to me for what purpose the tags and were created.

Q: Mahler polynomials and zeros of the incomplete gamma function

Tom CopelandThe Mahler polynomials are presented in Mathworld, Wikipedia, and the OEIS (A08299). There are rich connections to several areas of analysis and statistical physics, including the Whitehouse simplicial complexes, phylogenetic trees, tropical Grassmannians, and the combinatorics of Lagrange invers...

Q: A question about real closed fields that contain the real numbers as a proper subfield

Garabed GulbenkianLet F be such a real closed field and let F(C) be the algebraic closure of F. An important example of F is FSR- the field of SURREAL numbers. Suppose that one has constructed an exponential function f which maps F into itself and which is an extension of the exponential function already defined o...

@MartinSleziak Yes, I know you noticed, because you pointed that out in a comment. I'm going to restore that tag later and apologize to the user. It was the only instance of that.

Related to the above:
Currently there is a call to blacklist the 'completion' tag (see this meta discussion: meta.mathoverflow.net/questions/3227/…), so I removed it. — Todd Trimble ♦ yesterday
OK. Sorry if I stepped into a beehive. I was just trying to think of relevant tags. — jdc yesterday
You didn't step into a beehive; it was my bad. At the moment the completion (as opposed to completeness) tag is not being considered as problematic. I've rolled back to the prior version. — Todd Trimble ♦ 9 mins ago
Regarding that (one) instance of the completion tag that was removed: it's been restored, as no one has expressed feelings that the tag is generally problematic at the moment. (Might be nice to have a usage guideline at some point though.) — Todd Trimble ♦ 1 min ago
@ToddTrimble If you prefer, feel free to remove the comments on meta. (But I guess most - or even all - of them could stay. At least other users viewing that question will see that has also been briefly discussed and further discussion has been postponed for later.)
If I may, I will also ask whether is also going to be blacklisted, or it was only removed from all questions. (Perhaps this information would be worth adding to the answer on meta.)
