1:00 PM
n(1+x)^(n-1) = nC1 + 2nC2 x + ....
put x = 1

Yes Yashas this kind of trickery!
Then it gets complex and more complex

and you get a formula for nC1 + 2nC2 + 3nC3 ...

I guess its not important for jee now a days

@samjoe learn the basics of binomial theorem in 15 minutes and solve questions for few hours and you'll be set

Anonymous
Actually you don't need differentiation. You can write them directly if you are good at P and C.

1:01 PM
But some of trigonometry's problems be like they can't be solved in more than one way !!!

and yea it is not important

blue: and thats not the case :(

@Programmer Master S L Loney

Is that enough?

more than enough
that book teaches you all sorts of tricks

1:02 PM
Ok.. Arrihant?

And for indefinite, how do you revise?

How is that?

I mean I have learnt all formulas

@samjoe get a JEE book for indefinite
NCERT is not enough
use askiitians @samjoe

Yes I have Arihant.. and did some easy problems
But they had very difficult problems.. some of them.

1:03 PM
@Yashas I forget all important chapters

Anonymous
Do all the Arihant integrals

@Koolman then revise them

Is Arrihant relevant to jee advanced? @Yashas

Anonymous
That's enough

@Programmer Don't use books which are designed for JEE
they are just bad

1:04 PM
Ok

blue: for differential calculus? Do we need a book?

Anonymous
@Yashas Arihant's integration book is very good imo

Anonymous
Others are bad

let's keep your concerns aside for now and focus on those who are writing JEE this year
@Programmer I'll help you out how to study after JEE Advanced

Anonymous
@samjoe I never used one

Anonymous
1:04 PM
You need to be good at graphs

@samjoe Differential calculus is scoring

Thanks!

free marks!

Ok. That will be very helpful @Yashas

But sometimes they give questoins involving inverses and derivitatives and f(x)f(y) etc

Anonymous
1:05 PM
Lol, we are giving advice to people without even qualifying the exam...:P

That too gets me trapped

@blue I qualified last year :P

Yashas what rank?
I mean last year

Anonymous
@Yashas Okay, you go ahead then :P I'll chicken out

it does not matter; we know what is important

1:06 PM
ok

@samjoe I don't want to say :3
I screwed it up
they had changed the marking scheme
and I was too careless to not notice

Still yashas you didn't score as bad as me in this year JEE mains
Yes partial marking

yea... I did not know that partial marking was there until I had finished the paper 1
I wasn't alone :D

Haha

3-4 people made the same mistake

1:08 PM
@Yashas Is it titled "Plane Trigonometry by Sidney Luxton Lony "

30 more marks would have given me a rank around 3k I guess

But thats unfair. And If this year you don;t read the marking scheme and thing it will be partial mark and it isn't! haha
So surely we must read marking scheme thats a lesson for me!

@Programmer Plane Trigonometry S L Loney
@samjoe It was an important life lesson for me :D It turned my rank upside down.

Hey Yashas and blue.. I see Triangles are asked every year. I mean one question or two

let's get back to studying now

1:09 PM
Yes Thanks!

@samjoe 4 marks from solution of triangles last year
8 marks in 2015 (2015 paper was out of 504 marks so 8 marks is ~ 4 marks in last year's paper)

Yes and I am planning to leave it :|

it is around 4 and 3 per year
takes time and not important
40% of the paper consists of calculus

I did it earlier and ended up wasting my time
You are correct, I must sharpen on easier topics
Ah one last question
last oone
I haven't done Fluids, Properties of matter and Thermo in physics

?

1:12 PM
I find it hard to study thermo!

do thermodynamics!!!!!!!!!!
you get double benefit

I mean the heat and efficiency things and graphs and work and internal energy :(

chemistry thermodynamics is almost same as physics thermodynamics
it is easy
make another attempt

How much time does it take to do thermo ?
Is HC Verma good?
for thermo?

yes

Anonymous
1:15 PM
What book did you use till now? (physics)

it takes around 6 hours

HC Verma, but mostly I refered coaching notes
I didn't practice much from HC verma
Hey one last thing

Anonymous
I only did my coaching notes. (etoos)

Anonymous
That was sufficient

Anonymous
For thermo

1:17 PM
Oh
I think you must have practised some problems

Anonymous
Yes, the ones in the study material

I haven't studied thermodynamics since 2 years

Oh

and I am still good
I don't forget physics for some reason lol

Anonymous
@Yashas Well, you revised from time to time :P

Anonymous
1:18 PM
Don't exaggerate, lol

I forget everything in chemistry
@blue nope

Also I did biomolecules and polymers, i mean mostly structures. I cant remember amino acid names

Anonymous
@Yashas Well, the last time I asked you a thermo question you went to read Feynman....

Anonymous
:D

Do biomolecules and carbohydrates

1:19 PM
Glycine alananine valine leucine isoleucine.. ?

@blue I don't remember. WHen was it?
@samjoe Check JEE Advanced syllabus

Yea I did that glucopyranose and fructofuranose things

polymers is important too
only some polymers are there for JEE Advanced

Its not given in their syllabus

take a print out of JEE ADvanced Syllabus and use it as a guide to help you what to study

1:19 PM
I mean explicitly

@samjoe If I remember correctly, all amino acids are there

How did you rememver all names?

primary strucutre is also there
@samjoe tricks
I don't remember now
but I would revise before the exam and the tricks would help me remember
I'll tag you when I am doing amino acid revision
you can read my messages

@Yashas =P

1:21 PM
Thank yo alot!

Anonymous
Can't hide from me!

I did really bad i mean JEE mains, can I get a rank <5000 in JEE advanced if I study properly?

@blue That is thermochemistry!

I mean practice systematically?
I mean my JEE mains rank was way too high.. 20k

Anonymous
@Yashas Well, that was a part of thermodynamics in my books...

1:22 PM
I was talking about physics thermodynamics

Anonymous
@samjoe You can, but we can't say if you will

I did have a confusion with internal energy though

Anonymous
@Yashas Okay okay, fine :D

Anonymous
Calm down

haha caught him
thanks blue and yashas I better get studying

Anonymous
1:24 PM
@samjoe We ourselves don't know if we will get a good rank in JEE advanced :P All the best to you though!

Anonymous
We need to try our best :)

wrong room

@blue Engineering Physics is good, a few friends of mine are doing that. Btw, all the physics they teach you at BITTS and IIT's are sorta like engineering physics. Madras has a great Engineering Physics program, my friend is currently pursuing his third year there.

Anonymous
@NaveenBalaji Oh that's great to hear. I think I'll join that! :)

Lets see how the ranks go :P

Aniline vs Ortho Methyl Aniline. Which is more basic and why ? @Yashas (Just for revision =P)

ortho effect

Anonymous
Answer?

ortho methyl aniline
electrons are delocalized in aniline
you lose planarity in ortho methyl aniline
and hence resonance is not possible
no delocalization = electrons stay with the nitrogen

Anonymous
I am talking in solution phase. Which is more basic in solution phase?

hence more basic
You have NH3+ then

Anonymous
1:55 PM
@Yashas No no

Anonymous
It's in plain water

Anonymous
Ok fine

Anonymous
You can say that

there will be hydrogen bonding

Anonymous
Then?

Anonymous
1:56 PM
Answer?

Anonymous
@Yashas yes, so?

thinking...
I should probably ignore the kinetics
the one which forms NH3 will be stabilized by water
so it will be stronger

Anonymous
Both will form NH3+ in water...but whose Kb is higher?

the one with CH3 will form faster
hmm wait
this is confusing

Anonymous
Well, it doesn't have much to do with loss of planarity...

2:00 PM
I am not ready to think lol

Anonymous
in solution phase

I was filling JEE Adv form

Year of First attempt in JEE Advanced
the only option is 2017
lol
wth

Anonymous
What?

Anonymous
Really?

Anonymous
:O

2:05 PM
-_-
I used 2017 for Year of Passing or Appearing: in JEE Main form
that is why it is confused I guess
but I am really passing in 2017 -,-

Anonymous
Well, you passed twice....

Anonymous
=P

I did wrote Economics and CS in 2017
after JEE Advanced 2016
I can write in October 2016 and April 2017

Anonymous
But I hope they don't cause trouble during your admission

what the hell do I mark now? -_-

Anonymous
2:07 PM
You should have selected 2016

Anonymous
@Yashas You've only one option...

lol yeah

Anonymous
Explain them during admission

Anonymous
I hope they will understand

2:56 PM
Which is better : Genius in Chem and absolute noob in Physics or Genius in Physics and absolute noob in Chem.
?

Genius in all
2

3 hours later…
5:58 PM
@Yashas Among two of them?

Anonymous
6:13 PM
@Programmer Ugh, that's a silly question to ask. It would be same as asking which is the better subject: Physics or Chemistry? Both are very important subjects and one can't develop without the other.

Anonymous
And btw both Physics and Chemistry at higher levels are intellectually demanding subjects.

But I feel chem very easy but not phy

Anonymous
Everything is tough before it's easy. Whining doesn't help.

And lets say a person is extremely extremely genious in physics. Should he bother with chem??

Anonymous
Ufff...you are being annoying now.

Anonymous
6:23 PM
I don't know.

No... Just joking
Lol
Could you solve the problem?

Anonymous
6:45 PM
@Programmer No, not yet....

Anonymous
I can't find any mistake till now

Interesting Fact: Almost every alternate year 2 questions from fluids are asked in JEE Advanced Physics. Last year it was not asked so there is a high probability that this year 2-3 questions from fluids might be asked!
