@acontractedslimnoun No

I auto-completed the username. Still a by then, ans two tabs aren't better than 28 in this regard.
Does @0' ping you?

@0 ' doesn't ping because whitespace

@acontractedslimnoun Yes

Pinging and autocompletion behavior are inconsistent. That's the bug we should be fixing.

This is the other bug.

7:10 PM
@0 ' let me know if you do change your username back, and I'll refresh the profile so we can see if it causes any problems

0																												'
@trichoplax Okay, I changed my name back

Once we've established if it causes that particular problem, it's still worth bearing in mind that it's confusing when tab completing, so long term it might be best changed again
Refreshed
I'm not seeing any side scrolling yet

0																												'
@trichoplax Yeah, it appears to only happen when the tabs are enclosed in backticks

@0 ' is that good?

@EriktheOutgolfer No but @CartManagerXD did

I have a code block, not backticks.

@0 ' Reproduced - I'm now seeing the side scrolling as before. Looks like you have identified the root cause
@EriktheOutgolfer I tried 320 tabs in a code block and they didn't cause me any side scrolling, but the username in backticks did. Is 320 tabs enough? I guess we need to scroll this conversation off the page to remove the scrollbar before we can test that

7:18 PM
@trichoplax Is my edit accurate to the current situation?

Well, if we test that, then I'll post an answer on that question.

How do we get rid of the horizontal scroll so we can continue testing

@trichoplax Alternatively I can create a new room (The Stack Exchange Network) (quicker solution).

^better idea

Sounds good

7:20 PM
Creating room.

I feel like maybe we should just let the devs test it
They have access to better tools and such and if we can bring this to their attention they can be more effective at finding the problem
We are a bit like vigilantes. We should probably just let the professionals handle it

I think testing this in a normal room would be like vigilantes (at odds with the law), whereas in the sandbox or a dedicated room we're more like private detectives (helping without breaking the law or causing problems)

@trichoplax I have found an issue with "separate rooms".

@EriktheOutgolfer I think a new room should work as long as we don't type any backticks in it, and only test a four spaces code block

(you can see it 'cause you're a mod)

7:24 PM
I feel like now that we are making new rooms because we borked this one we are going a bit far. We know the root cause.

basically it says that if we continuously break new rooms we'll be continuously creating them
> What if we break it before testing? Another new room? What if we break that? .......32768 rooms made!

@EriktheOutgolfer I saw it when you typed it :)

Yeah, but then realized that was TNB and not Sandbox and deleted it.

I saw

Also people might want to see the exact content of my message so I quoted it.

7:27 PM
I've created a new room, and pasted in the long name with 4 preceding spaces, and it creates a scroll bar within the message only, causing no problem. So I think we can conclude that backticks do cause the problem, and codeblocks do not

You deleted it afterwards?

I will - unless there's anything else that needs testing?

Link please?

@trichoplax It didn't show here.

7:30 PM
It isn't hidden. Might just take a while to show up since it's new

Should the room be kept open for links in the meta post

Oh, that slow, slow chat cache! Well, I'd say freeze it anyways.

@CartManagerXD That's a good point.

needs at least 15 messages
