Sounds like a question about configuring a computer to open a file with a specific application when double-cliking on the file. Is this a good question here? I didn't want to vote to migrate before getting your input.
How about Method #5 (for people who like the command line):
Open an elevated command prompt.
Use FTYPE {fileType}={commandString} to create a file type and associated command to open the file.
Use ASSOC {.fileExtension}={fileType} to associate a file extension with the file type you created.

I'm still waiting for renovations. I don't know when it'll happen. My bedroom, along with the rest of the house, needs carpeting replaced with hardwood flooring, and I don't have the furniture needed to build on.
