@D-side could you explain why the word "fury" is pronounced as
[fjʊri] (фьюри)
but "bury" as
[ˈberi] (бэри)
?

@АлексейШиманский even words with the same (!) spelling may have different pronounciations.
A popular example is "read", as a verb, in present and past forms.
"рид" vs. "ред".
As for this particular case, fury/bury -- no idea.
Алексей Шиманский
@D-side yeah, it looks weird)
D-side
May have something to do with the fact that "fury" is a noun and "bury" is a verb.
Алексей Шиманский
@D-side mmm. interesting point
D-side
Well, forget that, it's totally wrong
This seems to do with the... what's the term, I'm no linguist, корни слов.
Word roots
(that was straightforward)
This pronounciation is inherent to these particular roots.
...or so it appears
So it probably just has to be memorized.
[jʊ] looks more typical though
Nah, it's pure guesswork

@АлексейШиманский The best explanation for almost everything in language, IMHO, is: it just is. :D
