@Catija How is work going? How is your boss doing?

Still crazy. Will be crazy until after next week... then a slightly less amount of crazy will set in.
Boss is in for his third round of chemo today.

Oh, God. Chemo is the worst. That's why I never went into oncology. I just couldn't deal with it.
@MovieReel +1 for "squirrel flying suits" being in the question :P

LIES
you didn't actualyl upvote it!

Hehehe! Yes, I know ;)
Napoleon would have scolded me for upvoting it solely based on that ;)

When you have a squirrel you don't need a suit to fly.

12:43 AM
@steelersquirrel lol
@NapoleonWilson no, you need a trebuchet
those things are cool

I guess it's not a bad question. I could up vote it.

@Riker Meh.

@NapoleonWilson Hehehehe! You got that right!

they can launch a 90 kg projectile over 300 meters

What's a trebuchet?

12:44 AM
A trebuchet (French trébuchet) is a type of siege engine most frequently used in the Middle Ages. It is sometimes called a counterweight trebuchet or counterpoise trebuchet, to distinguish it from an earlier weapon called the traction trebuchet, where men pulling ropes provided the power. The counterweight trebuchet appeared in both Christian and Muslim lands around the Mediterranean in the 12th century. It could fling projectiles weighing up to 350 pounds (160 kg) at or into enemy fortifications. Its use continued into the 15th century, well after the introduction of gunpowder. == Basic design... ==
that thing
a kind of catapult

I wasn't talking about actual flying anyway.

Oh, right.
Napoleon is talking about being high on life ;)

@Napoleon Could you check whether this edit is actually from the OP?
I don't want to approve it if it isn't, or reject it if it is.

@Randal'Thor It says it's from a different user, doesn't it?

@Randal'Thor It doesn't seem to be.

@NapoleonWilson Huh, weird. Why would someone edit someone else's question like that?

Q: Why is Temple of Doom a prequel?

Stephen CollingsTemple of Doom was the second Indiana Jones movie, but it was set before Raiders of the Lost Ark. Why was the decision made to set the second movie before the first? I didn't notice any story points that wouldn't have worked just as well set after Raiders.

@MovieReel Ooh ooh ooh. I know I've seen this one answered before, either here or on SFF.
Argh, that's frustrating. I can't find it again.

1:48 AM
@Randal'Thor Did it have as many spelling mistakes? ;)
@MovieReel It was a prequel? Wut?

@steelersquirrel Of course it was. You didn't know?
They show the time at the beginning of the film.
I think it's from 33, while Raiders of the Lost Ark is from 36. Or something like that.

@AnkitSharma He can either play or direct Batman, but can't do both.

I'm disappointed, but not surprised. He's been non-committal about the whole thing for about a month now.

@AJ WTF
@AJ Poem are boring, so can't :p
Looks like my question will work well there. That give me confidence for next question which are still in my head
@MovieReel mother of details
@DrRDizzle I did seen that coming but I don't like the idea of actor playing a major role and directing too .

SQB
@steelersquirrel Seems like Valorum beat you to it.

I am sure Hollywood have more good directors

@AnkitSharma I agree. I like Affleck a lot, but Live by Night showed that his reach exceeded his grasp.
That being said, I'd rather he just directed it and someone else played Batman, than him just playing Batman with someone else directing it.

A J

@AnkitSharma Our Hindi lecturer was a Pandit. He can explain any poem with deep explanation.
But can't do it now. He has been transferred to another city.
@John Why up?

@DrRDizzle Ben don't have such experience either
He even denied directing Justice league because of lack of CGI experience

@AJ Insomnia. I said good night to @AnkitSharma and found that I can't go to sleep.

@AnkitSharma There is no reason that a Batman film needs an extensive amount of CGI. Simply have him dealing with an Arkham break-out over the course of one night - something small, contained, tight.
Affleck is good at directing thrillers - let The Batman be a thriller.

9:42 AM
@John not a big deal we all have insomnia here
@DrRDizzle It's batman , producer will expect no risk and high output meaNs lots of action and CGI
Is napolean really busy or his Insomnia is cured.

@AnkitSharma Glad to know where I can go in the future. Insomnia is not usual for me.

Q: What does the drowning sequence represent?

GallifreyanIn "A Single Man", directed by Tom Ford, and based on eponymous novel by Christopher Isherwood, there is a reoccurring scene that features the protagonist, George, naked, underwater, apparently struggling not to drown. Here's an example, from the end of the film: ...

A J
I think my Sherlock answer is correct.
@AnkitSharma There can only be two resasons. Either he does a night job or he stays awake for someone. ;)

@AnkitSharma The action doesn't have to be CGI intensive. A good fight choreographer could make The Batman stunning without having to use a great deal of CGI.

A J
@AnkitSharma His timezone is almost same as Dizzle's. Only an hour difference.

10:30 AM
@AJ or he have insomnia or he is a cyborg or he is alien or......................................................

A J
There are thousands of possibilities.

@DrRDizzle what about flying cars and weird blast etc? I am not saying they can't but they surely will use extra large scenes which might need CGI
@Mithrandir hello o/

I'm just lurking...

@AnkitSharma Why would a Batman film need a flying car? What weird blast? I'm thinking of something like Dredd, only with more punching and less guns.

10:35 AM
@DrRDizzle that will not pitch the producers

@AnkitSharma I would think that a relatively cheap film that is guaranteed to make a lot of money would be exactly the kind of thing that producers would jump at.

@DrRDizzle I don't think so, producers have lots of money, they want assured output. Have you seen how big sueprhero film budget are this days ?

@AnkitSharma What, like Deadpool?

Deadpool lacks the money, that's why they cut down ending fight scenes expenditure
I am talking about X-men, MCU, DCEU level shit money

@AnkitSharma Yes, but there is no reason why that has to be the case. A paired back Batman film would still make a ton of money, it's just the risk would be even lower and in all likelihood, the limitations could help create a more interesting, less generic film in the process.

A J
10:40 AM
Are you interested in old movies' fight scenes? Hmm, now I know why you didn't like Man of Steel.

@AJ Depends what you mean by old movies. My favorite action scenes will always be well-choreographed, hand-to-hand fight scenes, the kind you're likely to see in films like The Raid: Berendal, Captain America: The Winter Soldier etc.

@DrRDizzle I am not saying your approach or advice is wrong ( And I will love to see a low budget grounded batman film with good story) but I am sure they will not follow that

@AnkitSharma Oh, of course, you're right that it's unlikely. I just think that's a shame.

Finally you realiased we are on same team this time :p

Lol

A J
10:45 AM
@DrRDizzle Well, I'm interested in hand to hand combats else I'd not have loved those epic war movies.
Finally, I'm glad you guys are at same platform of opinion. @AnkitSharma @DrRDizzle
@DrRDizzle If you really want to see some amazing hand to hand combats, watch Tollywood movies. You'd say like WTF at the end.

@AJ don't worry, it's one in a thousand case
@AJ ohhh shut up

Telugu cinema, also known by its sobriquet Tollywood, is a part of Indian cinema producing films in the Telugu language, based in the Hyderabad neighbourhood of Film Nagar in the Indian states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Since 1909, filmmaker Raghupathi Venkaiah Naidu was involved in many aspects of Indian cinema's history, like producing short films and travelling to different regions in Asia to promote film work. In 1921, he produced the first Telugu silent film, Bhishma Pratigna. He is cited as the father of Telugu cinema. In 1933, East India Film Company produced its first Indian film...

A J
I had a conversation with a British IRL and he told me this.
OK. It was in real life case. Now in movies?

I am British (well English) and it's not considered 'cultured' but sure, you'll hear it as much as you would in the US. Other English speaking countries, I couldn't say.

A J
Now, in movies.
I have seen lots of British movies and iirc, there is very rare use of F word in those. Even there is only one James Bond movie that has F word and it was used single time.

11:25 AM
@AJ Oh...yes, the rating that the movie is going for will determine the number of F words. As I recall for anything other than the highest rating they get ONE...maybe two.

33
Q: Why do some movies include only one instance of the f word?

topherWhile rewatching Mr and Mrs Smith, there is only one instance where the f-word is used. There are several other movies (I can't recall any other at the moment) where f-word is used only once. Is there a reason for this?

@AJ ^^
Even in US

@AJ We use it all the time lol.

I am sure dizzle here it all the time :p

Q: Why did filmmakers need permission to film in black and white?

steelersquirrelAccording to IMDb, Producer Mel Brooks needed to obtain permission to film The Elephant Man in black and white. This film was executive produced by Mel Brooks, who was responsible for hiring director David Lynch and obtaining permission to film in black and white. Why did Mel Brooks nee...

I asked it for the ToW challenge. It went crazy after that!!!

@steelersquirrel I know...it's insane. rep capped three days running becuase of your two questions. I think the hard part is getting another 10 upvotes. I'd get a serious gold badge for that. It's my highest ever voted answer ANYWHERE across all the SE sites I'm on. I thought my Star Wars one over on SF&F was doing good until this

A: Why do Stormtroopers wear helmets indoors?

Paulie_DWhy, because it's part of the on-duty uniform. The helmet isn't a hat and it doesn't just protect the head, it has many functions including communication and sensors. From the Wikia Its reinforced combat helmet featured an integrated comlink, audio pick-up, two artificial air-supply hoses, ...

@Paulie_D I saw that! How crazy! I never thought in a million years that that question would get that hot!
Now everyone gave up on the challenge :(

@steelersquirrel I just haven't come up with anything

Well, I asked 2.

Does anyone watch anything other than Sherlock? I swear I keep seeing questions about Mycroft like 10 times a day.

5:04 PM
@sanpaco fiancé and I are watching an idiot abroad
it's hilarious

@DForck42 nice I've heard that one is good :)

@sanpaco The questions have gotten more prevalent because (see Meta question) the S4 writing was...erm...not good and many plot holes emerged.

Makes sense, and obviously I would expect there to be a surge of questions when S4 was released but this is crazy. I might have a different attitude if I watched it and could be answering some of the questions though. I've been taking my time with that show though. I'm still in season 2.

Q: Is Sherlock Season 4 really so bad?

Mike.C.FordI've noticed that on a lot of the questions for sherlock based on Season 4 have quite a lot of negative opinions in the comments and answers. These examples are from all different users, for all the different episodes in the season, and this is far from an exhaustive list. My question isn't abou...

Q: Are the episodes out of order?

DForck42While watching An Idiot Abroad, in one episode Karl has a break down over riding a camel. A couple of episodes later her rides a different camel and seems relatively ok with it. This attitude seems to contradict the previous episode and it made us wonder if one was filmed before the other. Wer...

5:18 PM
@sanpaco I should be fair and say that the S4 questions are answerable but it's hard to keep the commentary out of it...which is why the Meta question arose. I've had to trim some answers back.

A: How was this scene shot without hurting Charlie Chaplin?

A JWell, I have a theory about how this scene might have been filmed, but I have no sources to confirm this as it is a very old movie. This rock can be a fake one, because using a real one will definitely hurt an actor. Now, when the rock is thrown, actor takes a jump. To make this look realistic, ...
