Yaay! :) (I feel so childish again)
Added a couple comments below your post :)

@Zizouz212 Edited my answer.

Just saw :)
Oh. That makes sense. I feel like you may have been saying that before, but I may have just been reading past it

One thing I need to work on when writing meta answers is to actually express all of my thoughts.

lol :)
I have that problem too sometimes :)

12:16 AM
There've been a few times recently when people have criticised one of my answers for not saying XYZ, and my reaction has been "Wait, did I not say that? I definitely thought it. Oh look, I just sort of tucked it away in an implication somewhere in the middle. Let's state it more clearly, and maybe put it in bold."

I've read many of your meta answers, and they are all top-notch :)

Aww, thanks :-)
I've learned a lot about writing persuasive meta answers during my time as a mod.

It's something of an art we all get to learn, isn't it?

You could call it an art, yes. An art of code, even.

lol
Hey @Randal'Thor Have we had any questions around literary awards?

12:26 AM

Q: What is the oldest literary award?

KimballThe Wikipedia page for literary awards lists inauguration dates for international awards, and of those the earliest of those is the Nobel Prize in 1901. However, I don't know about non-international awards, nor does the page for the Nobel Prize indicate it is the first prize in literature. Appare...

I was writing a question, and it occurred to me that maybe I could also ask a question around eligibility criteria for the Booker Prize

Go for it!

"Why did the World Fantasy Award look like a Deep One?"

@Mithrandir yes it was an edit

Q: Why are the Oscars so named?

rand al'thorWhy are the Academy Awards called the Oscars? Presumably they're named after somebody called Oscar. I once heard a story that someone looked at the statuette and said "hey, that looks like my Uncle Oscar", but that tale sounds somewhat dodgy. Is there any reliable source for this, or is the reas...

Let me fix up my gods question, and I'll move over to the booker prize :)

@Randal'Thor WUUUUT?!?! Great question!

Darn. I was going to ask about the identity of a particular anonymous author, but just found out that she outed herself in 2009. Bang goes my question.

Argh! I had already upvoted it ;)

@steelersquirrel Had you not seen that before?
@steelersquirrel See :-)

@Randal'Thor Well, I obviously had...I just forgot about it ;)

@Zizouz212 Yep, I got one too.
Also got one on Arts & Crafts some months ago.

1:05 AM
Wow

We don't get those on M&TV.

Wow

@Randal'Thor For the Booker question, would "What is the process to be nominated for the Man Booker Prize?" be okay?

@steelersquirrel Well, M&TV isn't in the first month of its existence :-)

1:06 AM
Wait, but Lit has only existed for 15 days...
And I technically have only existed for less than 48 hours...

@Zizouz212 But it's the end of the calendar month.

@Randal'Thor Oh...you only get it for new sites. I see!

@Zizouz212 You have to be at least 13 to use SE. I'm afraid I'll have to ask the CMs to delete your account :-P

But I'm 48 hours old, not 13!
Unless you're saying I have to be younger than 13... In that case, look who's talking!

@steelersquirrel I assume so. I never got an email like that on Puzzling, so it's not a beta thing.
But not just private beta either, since I only joined A&C on the first day of public beta.

Already?

Double whammy!
@Zizouz212 Sure. I wasn't the first to get either of those badges.
Admittedly one user got Strunk & White by going a bit Crazy Eddiet, changing "I'm" and "it's" to "I am" and "it is" in everyone's posts and creating a lot of subpar tag wikis.
But still. I guess it reflects Lit's high activity level.

Q: Tag format for author tags

fi12Right now, the tag wiki excerpts for all of author tags are a confused mess: we really have two main formats for these types of tags that currently exist. Q: What is the process to be nominated for the Man Booker Prize?

Zizouz212The Man Booker Prize is often cited as one of the most prestigious awards for English literature. The selection process is supposed to be highly rigorous. But what's the process to be nominated for the prize. Surely, no one can just submit a nomination just like that. What's the process for bein...

@Zizouz212 It'd be even better if it talked about how the book reflects this and what it means for the novel's themes.
As it is, the answer's pretty much just a history lesson (a good one!) without any direct insight into the book you're asking about.

@BESW I don't know. It was a little bit of an autobiographical novel, and it did try and put sharp tones towards India.

So, it can connect the dots between the history and the novel.

I would believe it reflects that highly, though you are right in that perhaps it could reflect a bit more on the novels themes

Great answers don't leave things as an exercise for the reader.

2:59 AM
Maybe I'm just too wowed, since I did my entire final English project on the novel, and never considered the history aspect :P

Context!

lol :)

@Randal'Thor sure. I didn't see those guidelines, and I've generally been accepting just to start off the process of making the tag wikis. I'll just accept the good ones

Q: What is a Devdas syndrome?

Ankit SharmaPost Devdas works in Hindi literature analysis always use the term Devdas syndrome. Like X work is suffering from Devdas syndrome or Y work tackled it quite well. But what is this exact Devdas syndrome? Is there a exact definition of it?

I just submitted some tag wiki (excerpt) edits. If anyone can review, that'd be good.

I can't :p

Well, earn 750 rep then :P

I am not a avid reader and asked only 3 questions
Asking question about a film and TV show is easy for me

Well then read something.

Reading take more time then watching

It's my own work ;)

I know :P
But you know, I try to keep SE clean.

A: Why does the narrator in "Stopping by Woods" stop by the woods?

MickBecause he wants to end it all Taken at face value, Robert Frost's Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening is a pastoral poem describing a rider's pause on a journey to admire some scenery. As such, it is superbly crafted, and with few blemishes. It stands equal to Wordsworth's Daffodils, inasmuch ...

I've update my answer--would appreciate feedback

@Mick The repetition of the last line begs analysis.

Do you mean saying more than it's repeated?

10:05 AM
If not of the repetition, then at least of the line itself; the repetition calls attention to the concluding text even more than being the concluding text already does.

k

That implies extraordinary weight of meaning.

@Mithrandir I really appreciate that

Every serious analysis of the poem I've ever seen gives And miles to go before I sleep a significant place in close reading.
Especially if you're going to draw a connection to Hamlet, it seems... peculiar... to ignore the "sleep" line.
On a surface read, miles to go before I sleep would indicate a decision to NOT kill himself if we're taking the Hamlet connection seriously.
The key to a good close read is to show the thesis is consistently supportable--or at the very least not outright contradicted--across the entire work.

10:20 AM
Actually, the reason I stopped where I did was because I was dog tired. I'll make the effort to complete it. Thanks for your suggestions.

I sleep from 2 AM to 4 AM and wake form 8 AM to 10 AM, 6 hour sleep is enough for me

Heh. I just looked at what Chrome thinks I go to most often.

@Mithrandir I approved three of your edits, but I rejected one because it was a tag wiki excerpt that told us who the author was, but not what the tag was.

> Use this tag for questions that pertain specifically to this series.
The edit put in 1.) usage guidance 2.) info about the series.

@Mithrandir Oh, well that was at the end and I think it is generally more appropriate to put it at the beginning.

On SFF they're all at the end when I add in usage guidance afterwards. @Randal'Thor can tell you about the day I had him review 50 tag wiki excerpt edits :P
(Like, add the guidance when they didn't have it before.)

@Mithrandir Oh, well, okay. If it gets through I'll propose an edit reordering it.

10:55 AM
@Mithrandir I despise that :p

@AnkitSharma ...Why?
Doggone it, Rand started a bounty before me :(

@Mithrandir there is no cool looking M&TV there ;)

A: Are the different mythological series by Rick Riordan set in the same universe?

MithrandirYes. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians, The Heroes of Olympus, and The Trials of Apollo are definitely in the same universe – they center on Camp Half-Blood. @Mithrandir Or can use Google Translate.

@Randal'Thor I can do that, but I like an account.
@Mithrandir Weren't you headed to bed?

It's 2:30 pm. No, not going to bed.

@Randal'Thor I can use Google Translate, but I don't have an account. Sorry, for the typo.

Q: What is the symbolism of the conch in Lord of the Flies?

Count DookuIn the Lord of the Flies, the conch is shattered when Piggy dies. Before that, it was held by Ralph, the de facto leader of the boys. What does the conch symbolize?

@Bookworm they can't work together anymore? Never read the book in question though, so what do I know?

@Randal'Thor Google translate don't work that good, specially not for every language

1:13 PM
It's not too bad for German -> English, probably because the languages are more similar than, say, Hindi or Chinese is to either.

okay
Google translate is just a mess for Hindi

If I ignore AJ and my post, then the nearest Indian stuff we have is a question about "A Passage to India" which is even by a English author .

@AnkitSharma we need more indian contributors ;-)

@DForck42 afternoon

@Mithrandir how goes it?

@Randal'Thor Isn't that just an article from the Frankfurter Allgemeine? I'm sure there's other places to get that.

So HDE 226868 isn't nominated yet in the moderator pro tem meta question.

@b_jonas Doesn't want the job.
I would've nominated both him and BESW, but neither of them want it.

@Randal'Thor I see. Thanks.
Shouldn't we put answers to that question about them saying that they don't want the job, so that this is easier to find out?

@Randal'Thor In theory Hindi should be closer to English and German than Chinese, though.

@DForck42 a wrinkle in time

@Mithrandir oh, still haven't read that one
this site, if anything, has shown me just how little I've read

2:19 PM
@b_jonas Yeah, I'm going to pass on this one.

A: Can we have a different favicon (ॐ) for Hinduism SE?

PopsAfter more internal discussion and comments under this meta post, we agreed that ॐ would indeed be a good favicon for this site. We forwarded the request to our design team a little while ago, and they came back to us with the new icons today. They should be appearing soon if not already, dependi...

Nice.
I really like the favicon for Vegetarianism too.

2:41 PM
@Randal'Thor not really, we had issue with "Hi" as our favicon which sound more likw a friendship site rather then religious site. And finally we got it

@AnkitSharma neat, what's the symbol mean?
@Randal'Thor reminds me too much of bmw tbh

Om ( listen , IAST: Auṃ or Oṃ, Sanskrit: ॐ) is a sacred sound and a spiritual icon in Hindu religion. It is also a mantra in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Sikhism. Om is part of the iconography found in ancient and medieval era manuscripts, temples, monasteries and spiritual retreats in Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. The symbol has a spiritual meaning in all Indian dharmas, but the meaning and connotations of Om vary between the diverse schools within and across the various traditions. In Hinduism, Om is one of the most important spiritual symbols (pratima). It refers to Atman (soul, self...
@Randal'Thor can't see , can you share it here

oooooh, lit's favicon could be a page with some writing on it (might be too much detail though)

@DForck42 OM is a spiritual sound and a symbol. Used in Hinduism but CM counter argument was it's used for other stuff too but finally they agreed

@AnkitSharma neat

2:44 PM
@Randal'Thor yeah

@AnkitSharma I don't use the site cause I'm a heathen, but I like it

@AnkitSharma 1 sec
low-res but that's what it looks like

@DForck42 I am more skeptical towards religion but I like to know about it even if I can't agree with it all the time and I moderate it too
@Riker V for vendetta

@Randal'Thor my only complaint: look at it! the V doesn't touch the bottom
if it did, then you could more easily calculate the length of the arc ;)

@Randal'Thor that remind me V for vendetta more and seems off

2:46 PM
@Riker oh my
@AnkitSharma neat
I am atheist/mildly agnostic

V for vendetta logo

the ironic part is: I'm not a vegetarian or a vegan, and I have the most rep by a good margin of anybody on the site
I don't even particularly want to become a vegan/vegetarian

@Riker O_O
@Riker my fiancée is vegetarian

and you hold on to your burgers?
;)

in fact, can you go ahead and send me an invite? dforck@gmail.com

@Riker But it's a relatively new site, so that might change later.

it's just funny for now
@DForck42 sent

Do the people with the highest rep on Movies SE want to become movie stars?

if you want you can delete that mesage with the email now, but it's up to you
@b_jonas not necessarily, but do they watch tv?

I am vegetarian ( who eat eggs) but I can't live without dairy product so not a site for me

2:50 PM
@AnkitSharma What Riker said. (Sorry, was in another tab writing up an answer.)

ah nice

@Randal'Thor no issue

@Riker This one doesn't even touch the top:

wot
needs more geometry

@Riker Congrats, I guess. Maybe that site will motivate you to go vegetarian? ;-)
@AnkitSharma That site definitely covers both vegetarianism and veganism. And probably various other related diets too (@Riker can confirm).

2:54 PM
@AnkitSharma apparently there are a lot of classifications to vegan and vegetarian...

Are there people who work in vegetarian food industry, like making or selling food to vegetarians, and have high rep on that site? Or are those on Seasoned Advice instead?

@b_jonas Apparently Seasoned Advice doesn't have many professionals either.

@Randal'Thor that might look better

@Randal'Thor doubtful :P
@Randal'Thor lol true

@Randal'Thor I will still go to season advice first

2:55 PM
@DForck42 Yep, there's really a lot of different versions of vegetarian diets. And I do none of them. I eat almost all kinds of meat.

I am allergic to sea food, red food dye, and mangos
so my diet is kinda weird

There are so many SE sites these days which could arguably be closed as duplicates of Seasoned Advice. Coffee, Beer, Wine & Spirits, and now Vegetarianism ...

@Riker agreed :p

what do you eat?
also, I wish the little chat SE links like [literature.se] worked on every main site

@Randal'Thor coffee , beer etc can kept differently as beverages. Anyway they did merged beer before

2:57 PM
@Riker They don't?

nope
Health doesn't at least

@Riker that's a nice set

I was editing a question on veg meta
@b_jonas very

wait, all sea food in general? you can be allergic to that?

@AnkitSharma I thought they just expanded Beer to Beer, Wine & Spirits, rather than merging it with anything.

2:58 PM
@b_jonas fish and oysters/mussels
I havne't tried crab or lobster but imma just stay away from them

@Riker yes, but I mean, all sorts of fish?

that I've tried yes

@Riker I am vegetarian. My usual diet is chapati, rice, pulse, kidney beans etc etc etc. But I don't mind egg

@Riker Oh, you mean in Q&A. They do work in comments, I believe.

I see.

2:58 PM
@Randal'Thor ah okay
and it's not about the mangos, I'm hyper-sensitive to the urushiol mangos have

@Randal'Thor there were many alcohol area 51 proposal so they kind of merged the future ones and beers was doing quite weak too

like, giant rashes and hives for a month or more

@Riker I have a friend that's allergic to red food dye!

eyyy!
that's the first other case I've seen
what's his reaction?
