@Tezz @TheDestroyer You two may be interested in this excerpt from Arulnandi Shivacharya's Shiva Jnana Siddhiyar, which gives various evidence to try to prove that Shiva is superior to Vishnu: gdurl.com/ohbJ/download
@Tezz @TheDestroyer The Shiva Jnana Siddhiyar is a commentary on Meykandar's Shiva Jnana Bodham, which is a defining text of the Shaiva Siddhanta sect. The Shiva Jnana Siddhiyar was written by Meykandar's shishya Arulnandi Shivacharya.
@Tezz @TheDestroyer And by the way, Meykandar's Shiva Jnana Bodham is itself a commentary on a set of 12 verses from a Shaiva Agama called the Raurava Agama.

@TheDestroyer No, I don't know but I think it's white...
@KeshavSrinivasan that link doesn't works..
@KeshavSrinivasan btw I first time heard his name... 😀😀

@Tezz I edited the link, now does it work?

@KeshavSrinivasan yes... now it worked... Thank you...
@KeshavSrinivasan in your answer you have written Shivadvaita Nirnaya by Aayppa Dikshitar... do you still have that book...?..

1:24 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan I just read that... I don't think those arguments are useful at all... These are God's general Leelas...
@KeshavSrinivasan Haha btw I find this funny "
When Partha seated on the car saw the assembled hosts and all of them his kinsmen and he refused to slay them with his sharp arrows and reign as king after their death, the willy words uttered by Vishnu to introduce him to fight, you accept as your higher authority. Why don't you also accept the words of Buddha Avatar of Vishnu, propagated for the conquest of Tripura Asuras ?"

@Tezz Haha

@KeshavSrinivasan the arguments there are like.. I heard somewhere Chaitanya Mahaprabhu gave arguments to prove Vishnu is superior to Shiva and they were like "Shiva wears the Ganga which comes from Vishnus feet. So, Vishnu is superior.... " and similar so on...

@Tezz Yeah, here is Appaya Dikshitar's Shivadvaita Nirnaya: archive.org/details/Sivadvaita.Nirnaya.by.Appayya.Diksita Let me explain what this work is about. Srikantha Shivacharya wrote a Shaiva Siddhanta commentary on the Brahma Sutras called the Srikantha Bhashya.
@Tezz The Srikantha Bhashya advocates a philosophy called Shiva Advaita. Most people agree that it's close to Ramanujacharya's philosophy of Visistadvaita, except with Vishnu replaced by Shiva. But Appaya Dikshitar was a Shaiva Siddhantin who believed in Adi Shankaracharya's philosophy of Advaita. So he wrote a work called the Shivadvaita Nirnaya which attempts to show that the Shivadvaita philosophy of Srikantha Shivacharya is really the same as Adi Shankaracharya's philosophy of Advaita.
@Tezz He argued that if you read the Srikantha Bhashya really carefully, it actually advocates Advaita, it just appears to advocate a Visistadvaita-like philosophy on the surface.
@Tezz I think it's ridiculous. If you read the Srikantha Bhashya, it's very clear that Srikantha Shivacharya believed in something similar to Visistadvaita.

1:43 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan when was the period of SriKantha ?...
How does Srikantha takes on ShaivaAgam rejection in BrahmaSutras ?...

@Tezz Srikantha Shivacharya lived in the 12th century. He argued that the Brahma Sutras are only criticizing Shaivites who misinterpet the Shaiva Agamas, not the Shaiva Agamas themselves. See my question here:
2
Q: How do Shaivite philosophers interpret the Brahma Sutras' criticism of the Shaiva Agamas?

Keshav SrinivasanAs I discuss in this question, by far the most popular school of Hindu philosophy is the Vedanta school, which bases its tenets on the doctrines laid out in the Brahma Sutras, a work by the sage Vyasa which summarizes and systematizes the philosophical teachings of the Upanishads. You can read th...

@Tezz He argued that properly interpreted, the Shaiva Agamas actually say that Shiva is both the efficient cause and the material cause of the Universe, even though most Shaivites believe that Shiva is only the efficient cause of the Universe.

@KeshavSrinivasan what is meant by this "For the Lord there can be no creatorship, for that leads to incongruity."
@KeshavSrinivasan Upamanyu while explaining to Krishna in Shiva Purana about Pancha Brahmans says that Shiva is both material and efficient cause of creation...

@Tezz Well, philosophical Shaivites follow the Shaiva Agamas more than the Shaiva Puranas.

@KeshavSrinivasan when was the time of Shiva Jnana Siddhiyar... ?

@Tezz That means that Ishwara as conceived by the Shaiva Agamas cannot be the creator.
@Tezz The Shiva Jnana Siddhiyar was written by Arulnandi Shivacharya, who was a shishya of the 13th century Shaiva Siddhanta Acharya Meykandar.

1:53 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan and the argument given is this "And (the position is untenable) because of the impossibility of (Nature) coming under (His) direction. (Or) And (God cannot be proved), since no physical support (adhisthana) is possible for Him." Isn't it?...

@Tezz Yes, the first Sutra makes a claim and then the subsequent Sutras give different arguments to support the claimc
@Tezz In any case, see this section and subsequent sections of Adi Shankaracharya's Brahma Sutra Bhashya for details: sacred-texts.com/hin/sbe34/sbe34213.htm

@KeshavSrinivasan So I now suspect that Kalki Purana might be recent work... because in that Argument on Kalki he says... we do not know what Isa will do there...

@Tezz Oh, does the Kalki Purana mention a role for Shiva?

@KeshavSrinivasan so, how does Madhavacharya explain it... he also believes God is not material cause...
See my answer here:
5
A: How will the Kalki avatar look like?

TezzLord Kalki will receive a horse, a sword and and an all knowing parrot (Suka) from Lord Shiva. His physical appearance is described by his wife Padmavati, Demi Gods and others too.. This is described very nicely in Kalki Purana... Lord Kalki after his sacred thread ceremony goes to Lord Parashur...

@Tezz His explanation is really funny, he correctly explains Vyasa's criticism of the Shaiva Agamas, but then at the end he says none of this criticism applies if Shiva is replaced by Vishnu, haha

1:58 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan haha lol...
@KeshavSrinivasan so Madhavacharya disagreement there is not in philosophical aspect... but in Lordship aspect...

@Tezz He says that Vishnu is declared in scripture to have all sorts of great qualities, so for him it's possible to be the efficient cause without being the material cause.
@Tezz Haha yeah, I think he might embrace the Shaiva Agamas if you replaced the word Shiva everywhere with Vishnu.

@KeshavSrinivasan haha lol... Shiva is the name of Vishnu in Vishnu Sahasranaama...

@Tezz Haha yeah
@Tezz That is one of the many reasons I call Madhvacharya my least favorite commentator on the Brahma Sutras.
@Tezz Both his interpretations of the different Sutras and his logical arguments are really far-fetched.

@KeshavSrinivasan who is your favourite commentator after Sri Ramanujacharya ?..

@Tezz My next favorite commentator is Adi Shankaracharya. Obviously I disagree with him on many things but at least he's intellectually honest and diligent in his writing.

2:05 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan what is the need for Madhavacharya to believe that Vishnu is not material cause and only efficient cause?...

@Tezz Well, that's one of the fundamental assumptions of his philosophy of Dvaita. He thought Brahman, the world, and Jivas are all completely separate from one another.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok...

@Tezz He claims that that's the philosophy that Vyasa taught him.

@KeshavSrinivasan when did Vyasa taught him..?

@Tezz Madhvacharya claims that he went to Badrinath and met Vyasa there.

2:11 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan Oh so... if Vyasa says so then Dvaita should be right... why should a Acharya like Madhava speak a lie..? What do you think😀😀

@Tezz That's why Madhvas and Gaudiya Vaishnavas trace their origins to Brahma Sampradaya. Because Vyasa's guru was Parashara, Parashara's guru was Shakti, Shakti's guru was Vasishta, Vasishta's Guru was Brahma, and Brahma's Guru was Vishnu.

@KeshavSrinivasan now I came upon two stories... one Adi Shankara meeting of Vyasa.. there Vyasa says Shankaras intrepretation is 100% right... now Vyasa meeting with Madhava.. there he is telling Dvaita should be right...
Isn't there a story which says Ramanujacharya met Vyasa.. ?..
Haha ...

1 hour later…
3:23 AM
@KrishnShweta Here is the stotram:
@Tezz@KeshavSrinivasan In a telugu movie about Adi Shankaracharya, some sadhu who always disagrees with Shankaracharya throws all his works in river Ganga. Then Ganga comes herself and hands them to shankaracharya. she adds "Oh shankara, Yours works are tht brilliant that Shiva put them on his head and did the ananda tandava". Is this true or an exaggeration?

3:43 AM
@SreeCharan I don't know any such stories...maybe it is exaggeration.. regarding Keshavs view on this.. he is very skeptical to the miraculous claim in the life of Shankara.. or with miracles associated with it...

@Tezz No, there isn't, but there is a story where Saraswati appears before Ramanujacharya and says that everything in his commentary on the Brahma Sutras is correct. She's the one who gave his commentary the name "Sri Bhashya". And she gave him a statue of Hayagriva.
@Tezz I've seen that statue of Hayagriva.

4:00 AM
@Tezz By the way, just like Vaishnavism has four Sampradayas (Brahma Sampradayam, Rudra Sampradayam, Sri Sampradayam, and Kumara Sampradayam), Shaivism also has two Sampradayas - Nandi Parampara and Skanda Parampara.
@Tezz Meykandar belonged to Nandi Parampara, but there was another Shaiva Siddhanta Acharya named Shivagrayogi who belonged to Skanda Parampara. Just like Meykandar composed a work called the Shiva Jnana Bodham, Shivagrayogi also composed a work with the same title Shiva Jnana Bodham. Both works are commentaries on the same set of 12 verses from the Raurava Agama.
@Tezz It would be interested to compare the two Shiva Jnana Bodhams and see what philosophical differences they have. I'm not sure which work was written first.
@Tezz In any case, as far as I can tell the Skanda Parampara died out. Almost all Shaiva Siddhantins today follow Meykandar.

4:25 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan where is that statue... are you sure that statue is not man made...?...
@KeshavSrinivasan why are those particular 12 verses of Raurava Aagam important... what do they discuss.. or Is Raurava Aagam of only 12 verses... (like Mandukya Upanishad😀😀) .. ?

@Tezz The statue travels around with the Parakala Matham Jeeyar. I saw the statue when the Parakala Matham Jeeyar came to Chennai. I was actually the only one in my family who saw the statue. We had gone to a house where the statue was there, but then the house had a power cut and so the Parakala Matham Jeeyar decided not to show the statue to people. He left it in his box.
@Tezz But then my cousin snuck me out of the back of the house so he could practice driving, and on the way out of the house I passed by the box where the statue was being kept, and so I saw it. So I may have been the only person in Chennai to see it at that time.
@Tezz My cousin doesn't really care about Hinduism, so he didn't even bother looking at the statue.
@Tezz Haha no, the Raurava Agama is a long text, it's just that those twelve verses discuss the core topics of philosophy.

@KeshavSrinivasan Lucky you.

@KeshavSrinivasan oh.. how big is that statue... Is photo of it avaliable in the Internet..?

@SreeCharan Yeah. Have you ever seen any Sri Vaishnava Acharyas, other than Chinna Jeeyar Swami who initiated you?

@KeshavSrinivasan Hmm.. Lucky..

4:35 AM
@Tezz Yeah, here:

@KeshavSrinivasan Ramachandra jeeyar swami, ashtakshari jeeyar swami, only these till date who are not shishyas of my acharyas.

@KeshavSrinivasan Oh ok... Thanks for the Image!...

@KeshavSrinivasan Who are the consorts? PIcture is somewhat unclear

@SreeCharan I haven't heard of either of them. What Mathams do they belong to?
@Tezz You're welcome. By the way, the reason my cousin snuck me out is that he was too young to legally drive, so he was trying to practice driving without his parents finding out.

@KeshavSrinivasan They are not among the8 mathams of manavala maha muni. I haven't seen any other acharyas belonging to ashta diggaja mathams. Ramachandra ramanuja jeeyar swami belongs to bhashyakara siddanta peetham.

4:44 AM
@SreeCharan Are they Thenkalai Acharyas or Vadakalai Acharyas?
@SreeCharan It looks like Bhashyakara Siddhanta Peetham was only founded in the year 2000: sribhashyakarasiddhantapeetham.elisting.in So I wonder who his guru is.

@KeshavSrinivasan They are thenkalai acharyas.

@SreeCharan By the way, I have met two Sri Vaishnava Acharyas in my life: the Parakala Matham Jiyar and one other Jiyar although I don't know who he was. I saw him when I was in Tirupati and I was seeing the procession of the Utsavar. Maybe it was Chinna Jeeyar Swami since he's in Tirupati.
@Tezz By the way, here is the set of 12 verses from the Raurava Agama that are considered so important: ऒम्

@KeshavSrinivasan There are no vadakalai acharyas in my states. But there are few temples dedeicated to vadakalai sampradayam near my home where priests are of tamil origin.
@KeshavSrinivasan There is a separate jeeyar for tirumala tirupati devasthanam also. When did you come to tirupati? It has been 10 years since HH chinna jeeyar has come to tirupati.

5:00 AM
@SreeCharan There is a Sri Vaishnava Acharya for TTD? But the Tirupati temple is run by Vaikhanasas, not Sri Vaishnavas.
@SreeCharan It was a long time back. Maybe around 2003 or 2004. So longer than 10 years.
@SreeCharan Where does Chinna Jeeyar Swami reside?

@KeshavSrinivasan Yes. That is the reason for controversies. There will always be a controversy on namam of Sri venkateshwara.

@SreeCharan So who is the Sri Vaishnava Acharya for TTD? Do you know anything about him?

@KeshavSrinivasan There are various ashrams near vijayawada(main ashram) and shamshabad, Hyderabad. He mainly resides at these places. The names of ashrams are varija and Divyasaketham. Besides these there are ashrams at different places.
@KeshavSrinivasan Not much. I only know when there is a news about them(there are two - peria jeeyar and chinna jeeyar).
@KeshavSrinivasan At divyasaketham ashramam a 216foot statue of Ramanujacharya is about to be inaugurated this year on occasion of 1000th tirunakshtram of Ramanujacharya. This statue is named as statue of equality. Do you know about this?

5:19 AM
@SreeCharan Oh, why isn't his main Ashram at the place Manavala Mamunigal established?
@SreeCharan Are Periya Jiyar and Chinna Jiyar both associated with TTD?
@SreeCharan Yeah, I know about the Ramanujacharya statue. It would be the tallest statue in Asia.

@KeshavSrinivasan I don't know about that. Where is the place Manavala mahamuni established the ashram?

@SreeCharan I thought Manavala Mamunigal had his Ashram in Tirupati.

@Tezz @KeshavSrinivasan ShivaPurana says that many times.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yes. chinna jeeyar and periya jeeyar are associated with TTD.

@SreeCharan Oh, I didn't know that. In any case, maybe it was Periya Jiyar I met.
@TheDestroyer By the way, did you see my message above:

5:36 AM
@TheDestroyer "ShivaPurana says that many times." What?..

@Tezz That shiva is both material and efficient cause.
@KeshavSrinivasan Just downloaded.

@TheDestroyer oh yes... it says many times.. actually Shiva Purana doesn't say at all that Shiva is only efficient cause...
@KeshavSrinivasan oh ok.. Thanks for the verses...!

@KeshavSrinivasan Personally, I don't accept anything which says other that Hari Hara oneness. Any Acharya will fail logically in proving supremeness of one of them, given they consider only Vedas without considering Agamas and other stuff.

@Tezz You're welcome. Are you able to understand them?

6:00 AM
@Tezz By the way, here is Meykandar's Shiva Jnana Bodham: archive.org/details/SivaGnanaBothamEng And here is Shivagrayogi's Shiva Jnana Bodham: himalayanacademy.com/media/books/sivagnana-bodha_sa-en/…

@KeshavSrinivasan @Tezz Any one of you could make some time to answer this question?
3
Q: What is the story of Badarayana Vyasa?

Sree CharanWe know that present Vyasa is Krishna Dwaipayana. There is a detail about him in Mahabharata. But who is Badarayana Vyasa and what is his story? In which mahayuga was he the Vyasa? What is the story of Ashwatthama as next vyasa? As vedas and puranas were already organized and divided, what would...

@SreeCharan "What is the story of Ashwatthama as next vyasa? As vedas and puranas were already organized and divided, what would be his role in the future?"
At beginning of Satya yuga, seven Rishis come to earth and give back one Veda and again as life span decrease in Kali Yuga, Vyasa of that particular Mahayuga should divide.

@TheDestroyer I posted the question when I don't know much about the role of vyasa. Can you post it as an answer?

@SreeCharan I think Badarayana is different from Krishna Dwaipayana Vyasa.
See this answer
9
Q: Who all were the different Ved-Vyas?

AbyWe all know that the Mahabharat was written by Ved-Vyas, but what many of us don't know is that Ved-Vyas was not the name of the person but the title. This title is given to the one who add/modify/delete the original Ved, Puranas and Epics. Ved-Vyas, the author of Mahabharat was actually named 'K...

@TheDestroyer Badarayana is the same as Krishna Dvaipayana Vedavyasa. – Keshav Srinivasan♦ See the comment. cc @KeshavSrinivasan

6:15 AM
@SreeCharan That answer talks about Aswathama but it doesn't say Badarayana is same as Dwaipayana vyasa

Badarayana (IAST Bādarāyaṇa; Devanāgari बादरायण) was an Indian philosopher about whom almost no personal details are reliably known. He wrote the foundational philosophical treatise Vedanta school of philosophy. Badarayana has been variously dated. The current scholarly consensus dates him to the middle of the first century CE. == Works == Badarayana is regarded as having written the basic text of the Vedanta system, the Vedāntasūtra a.k.a. Brahmasūtra. He is thus considered the founder of the Vedānta system of philosophy. == References... ==

@SreeCharan You can ask a seperate question about Aswathama and why other Vyasa is needed or you can remove that portion.

@TheDestroyer @SreeCharan I'm skeptical of the claim that Badarayana is same as Krishna Dwaipayana...

@Tezz Vahana of Shiva is described as Swetha Vrishabha but Nandi or Vrishbha is black in color in temples. I think this is due to stone they make. But do Swayambhu lingas have Swayambhu Nandis?

@KeshavSrinivasan I somehow manage to understand them...

6:26 AM
@Tezz Who is Badarayana vyasa? What are your views about him?

@TheDestroyer I don't know... but at least I know Nandi of Pashupatinath is manmade....

@TheDestroyer Yes. Stone used in temples is black. White marble is used mainly in temples in North India.

@SreeCharan he might be a philosophical sage like Jaimini, Kanada etc.. and became entitled as Vyasa due to Brahma Sutra... but I'm saying I'm just skeptical... I also believe he is same as Veda Vyasa... but I'm skeptical....

@Tezz Srisaila mallikarjuna temple also has a large nandi before him. This is also a man made but it changed to stone after bringing before shiva linga.

@Tezz How can you believe and have doubts at same time :P Advaitic sense?? ..haha..
@SreeCharan @Tezz BTW, Nandi is historical and cultural symbol of Telugu people. Lepaksh Nandi.
Lepakshi is a small village in Mandal in the Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh, India. It is located 15 km (9.3 mi) east of Hindupur and approximately 120 km (75 mi) north of Bangalore. Lepakshi is culturally and archaeologically significant as it is the location of shrines dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Veerabhadra which were built during the Vijayanagara Kings' period (1336–1646). The temples are the location of mural paintings of the Vijayanagara kings and Kannada inscriptions. Near the temple complex is a large granite Nandi bull. On a hillock known as Kurma Saila, "tortoise shaped hill...

6:32 AM
@TheDestroyer Do you know about the story of nandi of srisaila temple?

@SreeCharan No. What's special about it? Actually people believe Vurdha Mallikarjuna linga is original Jyotirlinga.

@TheDestroyer haha.... I believe with doubts.. lol.. 😀😀

@TheDestroyer Chaganti garu explained about that. Vruddha mallikarjuna lingam which is adjacent to main shiva lingam is a lingam brought from a place vrudhhachala. Hence that name. The linga worshipped now itself is the real jyothirlinga.

@SreeCharan Ohh ok. Thanks for clearing.
@SreeCharan Do north Indian Shiva temples have white Nandi?

@TheDestroyer shiva appears in the dream of a devotee who is a sculptor and orders him to prepare two large nandis. He adds "They will have prana till you turn back.Do not turn back till you reach the temple. If you turn back they will turn to stone" The devotee makes two idols and starts from his home to temple. On the way patala ganga, one nandi's leg gets stuck between two stones. He turns to see what happened, that nandi solidified there. That it is called "senagala basavanna".
@TheDestroyer Don't know but I have seen idols of Krishna, vishnu and lingas made of white marble.
The second nandi reaches the main temple. The nandi which was stuck was visible under till the government of India started a project at Srisailam.

6:47 AM
@SreeCharan ohh..
@SreeCharan can we see Basava Nandi now?

@TheDestroyer First one or second one? The nandi in patala ganga is no longer visible.

@SreeCharan Nandi in Patala Ganga or Krishna river. ok.

@TheDestroyer @SreeCharan - Namaskaram 😊💐

@SwiftPushkar हाँ बोला था मुझे "आप" बोलकर बुलाने की ज़रूरत नहीं है. :)

@SreeCharan - Vyasa story is in bhagvatam also , but it's not in one chapter , but in diff.shlokas in diff.chapters.

7:14 AM
@SwiftPushkar Ok. But do know the story of Badarayana?

@SwiftPushkar There was an ad of Asian paints. A Guy "chandra" applies Asian Paint to his house and he marries recently and bought a new car. A vistor comes and says, "Super Chandra, new house, new wife and new car" but after some years, same visitor comes to his house and tries to say the same.. but house looks like new (due to paint) but wife and car become old.

@SreeCharan - अरे नहीं मैं प्रोफाइल पिक्चर बदलने की बात कर रहा हूँ , आप ने कुछ दिन पहले ये बात सजेस्ट की थी😊

@SwiftPushkar When @SreeCharan said, new year and new Profile pic, i remembered that Ad.

@TheDestroyer - Ya , faintly remember something like that , i think that ad. is from Doordarshan days😀, Do you remember words from that

@SwiftPushkar I remember that.

7:17 AM
@SwiftPushkar Yeah. I remember in Telugu. It was very famous at that time.

@TheDestroyer - ok , i remember "Hamara Bajaj" ad , that was also very famous , but we will check u tube for old ad's.📺

How many of you have heard Pandya surname before? I've doubt that some (may be outside of India) misread as Panda! or people are aware of that?

@Tezz "I somehow manage to understand them..." OK, so now that you've read them, do you think they contain such important information that it justifies writing numerous voluminous commentaries on them, both in Sanskrit and in Tamil, and is it important enough to be a core foundation of the Shaiva Siddhanta sect?

@SwiftPushkar How about Swasktika as your profile picture?

@Pandya Oh, Pandya isn't your first name? In any case, I'm familiar with the Tamil version of the surname Pandya, namely Pandyan.

@Pandya I know the surname pandya as it is also a name of ruler dynasty. Are you related to them?

@SreeCharan Yeah, that's the context in which I know it as well.
@Pandya Haha, people might think he's a Hitler fan.

Oct 14 '16 at 6:10, by Pandya
@TheDestroyer Deep is name and Pandya is surname.
@SreeCharan no.

@Pandya Oh, if it's not about the Pandya empire then what does your surname mean? Does it signify that you're a Brahmin?
@Tezz By the way, these 12 aren't the only verses in front Raurava Agama that people obsess over. The Paramoksha Nirasa Karika of Sadyojyoti, which is a Shaiva Siddhanta work I emailed you a long time back, is a commentary on just two and a half verses of the Raurava Agama! Those two and a half verses are not part of the 12 though.

@KeshavSrinivasan I don't know much about Pandya empire. Yes, Pandya is surname of Brahmin and Nagar also: /cc @SreeCharan
Nagars are believed to be one of the oldest of the Brahmin groups, found primarily in Gujarat, but also in Rajasthan, Malwa and in states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar even as far as Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh in the north, West Bengal in the east and Karnataka in the south. In North India, they form a sub-group of Vyas Brahmins. == Origin == The oldest account of the Nagars is given in the Nagara Khanda, a part of the Skanda Purana (Hindu religious text). == Nagar princes == A few Nagar families became chieftains of (minor) princely states, notably in two ...

@Pandya I first thought you were from Tamilnadu due to "Pandya"n Empire. But was bit shocked when you said Gujarat. And i thought you were Tamilian settled in Gujarat. Lol..

@Pandya Oh ok. By the way, Chera empire, the Chola empire, and the Pandya empire were the three empires that dominated South India in ancient times.

@TheDestroyer Yes, I think Gujarati and Tamilian Pandyas are different.

8:07 AM
@Pandya If you know the story of Venkateshwara, the cowherd who hit Venkateshwara while he was in an anthill worked for a Chola king.
@Pandya The Chera empire was ruled by some point by the Vaishnava poet-saint Kulasekhara Alwar, whom I discuss here:
4
Q: Why does Kulasekhara Alwar call Vishnu "Vitruvakodu's Lord"?

Keshav SrinivasanThe Alwars (also spelled Azhwars) are a group of 12 ancient Vaishnava saints who lived in Tamil Nadu and are famous for their poetry in praise of Vishnu. The collection of their 4000 poems, known as the Naalayira Divya Prabhandam, is considered by many to be the "Dravida Veda", or South Indian V...

@KeshavSrinivasan I don't know that story but I've just heard about Chola king, Pandya's dynasty or empire.

@Pandya And at some point half of the Pandya empire was ruled by Yamunacharya, who was Ramanujacharya's guru's guru and also the grandson of Nathamuni, founder of the Sri Vaishnava sect.

@KeshavSrinivasan Good/new to know for me! Thanks
Btw, Pandya dynasty and kingdom (found from Wikipedia) are related? :
This article is about the Pandya Kingdom as described in the Indian epic of the Mahabharata. For the historical kingdom and dynasty, see Pandyan Dynasty. The Pandyas were fierce warriors who took part in the Kurukshetra War as per the epic Mahabharata. A Pandya king named Darshak, is mentioned as participating in the Kurukshetra War, siding with the Pandavas. == References in Mahabharata == === Places in Pandya Kingdom === All the references (n:m) found in this article refer to Mahabharata, nth book, mth chapter The mountain Rishabha in Pandya kingdom is mentioned at (Mahabharata 3:85)....
^^ I don't know they're mentioned in Mahabharata
@TheDestroyer ok. I've specified Nagar in profile page. /cc @KeshavSrinivasan

@TheDestroyer I posted the answer.

@Pandya - That is also a nice idea ,abt swastika , but , my view is gods pic.in profile always reminds us to see the god in each&everyone , respect everyone , and reminds us that we are in spirital or religious forum.😊👍👍

@SwiftPushkar I thought you put Vinayaka to remove obstacles in 2017.

*spiritual
@SreeCharan - HaHa , but wht.obstacles ? I am going to put all the gods in my profile pic.in comming years , see saraswati now ganapati , next.Vishnu ,Shiva ,Dattatraya ,krishna ,Rama ...😀

@SwiftPushkar Ha ha.

@SreeCharan Do Narasimha idols too have sandal paste?

@SwiftPushkar My change in profile picture depends on my state of mind or an incident happened. It was shiva,vishnu in one pic, then vishwa roopa and now vishnu on garuda.
@TheDestroyer I don't know about other kshetras, but in Yadadri, The idol has saffron paste.

8:50 AM
@SreeCharan I think Ugra Narasihma has saffron paste. Lakshmi Narasimha is peaceful aspect. It is said in Dharmasandhehalu, one must put Lakshmi Narasihma in Pooja room not Narasimha photo/idol alone. Lakshmi Devi pacifies Him.

@TheDestroyer Yes. Yadadri is a pancha narasimha kshetram. Yogananda narasimha swami idol is not applied saffron.
@TheDestroyer Do you remember, my answer of"Why are temples painted white and red" ? It was you who improved the quality of the answer. That was my first post.

@TheDestroyer @SreeCharan - How the Varaha , matsya , and narasimha avatras ended , are they still alive.or merged with Vishnu at the end?

@SreeCharan I wanted to post an answer citing the same video. but you posted before me.
@SwiftPushkar Varaha still lives in Seshachalam or Tirupati forests.
@SwiftPushkar I think Narasimha became idol. not sure.

@TheDestroyer - oh ok , i know the story of narasimha geting very angry after ki!ling hiranyakashipu but don't know wht happened afterwards , idol info.is new to me 😊👍👍

A: What is the story of Sharaba?

Keshav SrinivasanIf you want to learn about the incarnations of Shiva, you can read the Shatarudra Samhita of the Shiva Purana, which mentions numerous incarnations including the following: Vrishabha the bull, whom I discuss in this answer; Virabhadra, the demon created by Shiva to kill Daksha after the death of ...

@SwiftPushkar @TheDestroyer ^^^ The gandabherunda form of Narasimha is also one of the forms of Yadadri Lakshmi narasimha swamy.

@SreeCharan Gandabherunda is contested. I think it's not real.

yesterday, by The Destroyer
@SreeCharan All those people who come to Dharma Sandhehalu are Advaita Acharyas or Smrathas.
@TheDestroyer Dr.Kandadai Ramanujacharya and Dr.T.K.V Raghavan are exceptions.

that is to say , are the wordings in Aarti's same in all the languages or region's?

@SwiftPushkar तेलुगु में हारति बोलते हैं. मुझे तमिल और मलयालम में मालुम नहीं यह आरती संस्कृत में होते हैं .
@KeshavSrinivasan What do you call harathi in tamil?
@KeshavSrinivasan Can you read and understand hindi?

@SreeCharan - Ok , but i am asking abt. the wording in Aarti not only abt. the word Aarti , ie.the content in Aarti 😊👍

@SreeCharan I also posted a question about Gandhaberunda:
11
Q: What scriptures discuss Ghandaberunda, the bird beast created by Narasimha?

Keshav SrinivasanThe coat of arms of the Indian state of Karnataka depicts a strange two-headed bird: This creature comes from certain versions of the story of Narasimha, the man-lion avataram (incarnation) of Vishnu. As most people know the story, Narasimha kills the demon Hiranyakashipu and rescues his devotee...

@KeshavSrinivasan - Vannakam 😊💐➡😀🆕📆

@SwiftPushkar There are telugu versions of aarathis but these are sung after vrats in home and not in temples. I don't know about tamil.
@KeshavSrinivasan I read that question too.
29 mins ago, by Sree Charan
@SwiftPushkar @TheDestroyer ^^^ The gandabherunda form of Narasimha is also one of the forms of Yadadri Lakshmi narasimha swamy.
@KeshavSrinivasan See above.. Do you know this temple in my state?

9:38 AM
@SreeCharan In Tamil also we call it Aarati.
@SreeCharan No, I don't know Hindi and I can't read Devanagari script.

@KeshavSrinivasan Then How do you read sanskrit verses in question and answers?

@SreeCharan No, I'm not familiar with that temple.
@SreeCharan I use this tool: learnsanskrit.org/tools/sanscript

@SreeCharan ➡ द्वापरे समनुप्राप्ते तृतीये युगपर्यये।
जात: पराशराद्योगी वासव्याम कलया हरे:॥१४॥ SB 1.4.14

Betwern 4 yugas ,when 3 rd dwapar yuga was there , then Ved Vyasa took birth from Maharshi Parashara and satyawati who is daughter of vasu.

It is a temple not more than 500 years old . Narasimha swamy is in five forms i.e., Lakshmi, Ugra, Gandabherunda, Jwala, Yogananda . There are Ramanujacharya and nammalwar on the top of the idol too.

corrected version 😂😂↔⬆⬆ Between four yugas ,when Third dwapar yuga was going on , at that time Ved Vyasa was born from Maharshi Parashar and Satyawati ,who was daughter of vasu.

9:50 AM
@KeshavSrinivasan do you have a link of Bhagavad Gita As Viewed by Swami Vivekananda in PDF version
@SwiftPushkar@SreeCharan hai

@sakthi hai

@SreeCharan do you have that link

@sakthi No. I have ramanuja commentary saved in my computer.

@SreeCharan i had searched in many sites but they are all for only MONEY

@sakthi - Hi 😊💐 How are you , Very Happy & prosperous new year to you 🌾🌸🌷

9:58 AM
@SwiftPushkar HAI
@SreeCharan how can bheesma was able to fight with bhagawan parashuram(incarnation of lord vishnu) in equal. Was he born with any super qualities or any other chances

@sakthi - Which is your kula-daivata or kula-Swamini , which temples do you visit often ?

@SwiftPushkar you will not identify it as it is a krama devi as there are many gods in our state

@sakthi Bheeshma was the shishya of Parashu rama. Parashurama trained bheeshma. So he was able to fight parashurama equally.

@sakthi - oh ok , got you 👍 Mine is Shree Renuka devi , mother of parashurama ,as our kula swamini and Ganesha as our kula daivata

@SwiftPushkar renuka is a goddess as her head was attached to the other low caste womans body right
@SreeCharan i didnt get the answer for the qusetion of moksha of bhisma and others what to do next

10:14 AM
@sakthi There are many unanswered questions on the site. I would say wait for some time.

@SreeCharan did you mahabharath episodes

@sakthi - I don't know abt , that version , head replacement theory ... BTW. Wht is the story of krama devi?

@SwiftPushkar Krama means village and devi is goddess and you are asking about our kula daiva ?

@sakthi Are you asking did I watch mahabharat episodes?

@SreeCharan yes

10:22 AM
@sakthi Yes. I watched in hindi, telugu.

@SreeCharan in it lord krishna told the three of the great warriors about their faults and they died after that. Can we take it as the reason for them not attianing moksha or is it wrong

@sakthi In mahabharata written by Vyasa, there is no such thing. Bhishma was a vasu in his previous birth. Drona attained brahmaloka when he prayed god before dying. Karna was a rakshasa named sahasrakavacha. 1000th kavacha was removed and after that the soul of Karna merged with Sun god. But some say Bhishma attained moksha after staying alive on bed of arrows for some days and I believe that.

@SreeCharan I am not asking of that situation of talking with warriors and stopping the time but i am asking that they didnt stop kauravas from humiliating draupati and standing by thier side was adharma and so they didnt attain moksha

@Sakthi That may be the reason. Bhishma attained moksha but drona and karna didn't attain moksha due to their deeds.

@SreeCharan@SwiftPushkar have you heard of swami vivekanada saying to a christian missionary men "If you abuse my religion again, I will throw you overboard"

10:40 AM
@sakthi I don;t know about that,

@Tezz hai

@KeshavSrinivasan You wrote that you read Paraskara grihta sutras. Is it parashara or paraskara?

10:55 AM
@sakthi hi.. how are you...?
@SreeCharan No, Bhishma was Vasu in previous birth and he didn't get Moksha...
And that story of Sahasrakavacha is likely to be folk tale...
That story of Sahasrakavacha has no basis in Vyasas Mahabharata...

A: Which Purana talks about Sahasrakavacha, the past life of Karna?

Be HappyThe Padma Puran talks about Sahashrakavacham, the previous birth of Karna. During a fight between Shiva and Brahma, Shiva chopped off Brahma's head and some drops of sweat appeared on the forehead of Brahma out of anger. When he wiped out those drops of sweat out of it was born Sahasrakavacha (t...

@KrishnShweta Hi!!! I posted hayagriva stotram. Did you see?

@SreeCharan Thanks!
@SreeCharan I was just going through that now.

@KrishnShweta Ok. Good. I suggest you to chant it in the morning for better results.
@KrishnShweta Do you know about Lord Hayagriva before?

I don't know... Who is He btw?

9
A: Who was Lord Hayagriva?

Be HappyYes, Lord Hayagriva is the avatar of Vishnu with a horse head. Haya means horse and griva means neck. So the deity with a horse head from his neck is known as Hayagriva. The incident of how He got that horse head is present in different scriptures with slight variations. Once in the ancient t...

OMG!! It has 33 shlokas.

4:42 PM
@KrishnShweta Yes it has 33 shlokas. But it takes less than 10 minutes to chant once u get familiar with it.

Have you learned it?

@KrishnShweta He is considered as the incarnation of Lord Vishnu who is the source of all knowledge. It is said that He was the one who coronated Lalitha Tripura sundari and made akshara sweekaram to Saraswati devi. Some reject this
@KrishnShweta ping me when you type some thing. I know upto 8 shlokas without seeing. It is under process.

@SreeCharan OK!! I know that He is incarnation of Vishnu, but I don't know His name before.

@KrishnShweta I found very difficult even to pronounce some words. But it gets easy when you chant daily.

@SreeCharan That's good.

4:51 PM
@Tezz By the way, the Shiva Jnana Siddhiyar doesn't just try to refute Vaishnavism, it tries to refute lots of belief systems. Here is Arulnandi Shivacharya's refutation of Advaita: gdurl.com/wLIM

@KeshavSrinivasan - well done

@KrishnShweta Are you comfortable with english audio or shall I give you telugu script without audio?

@SreeCharan Yeah. comfortable :)

@KeshavSrinivasan 18th Pasuram today. Nappinnai is woke up today.
@SwiftPushkar I told you about Hayagreeva the other day. Do you remember?

Do you people believe Jesus was the incarnation of Krishna?

4:59 PM
@KeshavSrinivasan I posted an answer to "one tag cleanup". See these suggestions.meta.hinduism.stackexchange.com/questions/470/…

A: The one tag cleanup post to rule them all

Sree CharanMake tag papam a synonym of sin or merge both. Sin is literal english translation of Sanskrit word papam. Papam is also there in many other languages too.

@KrishnShweta A BIG NO!!!!

@SreeCharan Me too.

5:20 PM
@KrishnShweta I certainly don't believe that Jesus was an incarnation, but ISKCON people believe he was an incarnation.

@KeshavSrinivasan Yeah... I have gone through random sites to know Prabhupada's views. One articles states "The one who worship Krishna then he must worship Jesus" :D

@KrishnShweta Iskcon want to attract christians. So, it says like that. But Christ came to Kashmir and learned from our Rishis.
@KrishnShweta "The one who worship Krishna then he must worship Jesus". LOL

5:36 PM
@TheDestroyer Do Christians believe this?

@KrishnShweta Christians do not believe Hindu gods moreover they make fun of Hindu beliefs.

@TheDestroyer Yeah... the moment I saw that line I've closed that article ^.^

@KrishnShweta I think most of them won't believe this.

@SreeCharan @TheDestroyer OK.
