Unfortunately Minecraft is fading out of popularity for the PPCG crowd, me included. We've basically conquered the Minecraft universe, twice. What more else is there to do?

We could go modded if people want. I am totally open to making a new world.

But yeah I agree. I've probably sunk over a thousand hours into vanilla MC and unfortunately I've kind of seen it all at this point :/

I think we had a discussion about mods a while back

Actually I'm more interested in starting a more personalized server from scratch where there are stricter building rules enforced programmatically (like everyone gets an allocated set of chunks they alone can build on), though still mostly vanilla survival (maybe). Then I'd start making lets play videos on it. But that's not what the PPCG server idea was so I'm not changing anything about it without overwhelming consensus.

Though I really don't know hot to set that up in the first place :/

In my experience though these plot servers end up really sparsely populated with not a lot of interaction

I don't really want a plot server, but maybe we can do something to get an in-game economy (not something dumb like fixed prices, but a way to run "businesses" and stuff to promote interaction). I'm not really sure if that's feasible/reasonable or not.

I think we had a decent amount of fun on the original server by selling "condos" and stuff.

Unrelated idea: trap the whole server in a tiny box.

I do want to clarify that my make the arena server great again comment should not be misconstrued as trump support

@quartata I just don't like the idea of some troll joining the server and messing up a bunch of stuff they shouldn't (not that that has ever been a big issue on the ppcg server but you know, just to future proof it). But yeah, separate plot does make interaction boring

Every once and a while I think back to the original server and realize how absolutely absurd is was. Like, we had a Museum of Everything completely lined end-to-end with iron blocks.

@PhiNotPi I'm up for restarting the PPCG server (iff there is concensus) or starting a new server with some sort of modpack or something. I'd love a place to make videos with other people around. I'd just want a better way to admin it just in case there are bad apples.

Also, looking back on it I think resetting the server might have been "the beginning of the end." On the original server, we basically put all of our effort into it, trying to make it as "complete" as possible (gold farm, mail/rail system, spleef/PVP arenas, a giant cathedral, etc.). But with the new server we never got close to doing most of those things.

@PhiNotPi @quartata @Sp3000 If I were to start a new MC server (paying for it myself to start but probably taking donations too) would any of you be willing to act as moderators on it? In much the same capacity as you would mod an SE site or chatroom. Nothing is planned yet, I'd just trust you guys to do it if it happens.

I can act as a mod, sure. Is this going to be a more general (open to public) server? Although... my willingness to serve as a mod may be strongly affected by how "into Minecraft" I'm feeling when you start the server.

@PhiNotPi It would be open, yes. Just throwing ideas out really. I may start a new server I might not, so no pressure.

@HelkaHomba As much as I'd love to, unfortunately MC has fallen a bit down my priorities list, sorry :/

@HelkaHomba If it's a modded server, using some kind of modpack like Feed the Beast's Direwolf20 or Infinity, I will commit to moderating for two months (give or take a few days around Christmas time)
