@percusse so I wasn't the olny one unable to sleep last night? ..

3 hours later…
8:56 AM
@yo' Worried about today's hockey match?

yo'
@egreg no, I think a thunder woke me up, because I heard one couple minutes after. However, it took me at least an hour to fall asleep again :-(

2 hours later…

11:09 AM
Hi all
@Johannes_B Hey that's my line! But I forgive you, because I also have other lines I can use.

@Alenanno :-)

:P

@Alenanno Just listening to Cadena100, a spanish radio station. They are playing Shakira right now <- @Paulo

12:14 PM
@Johannes_B ooh Mira! En Barranquilla se baila así!

@PauloCereda Bailando bailando, amigos adios adios, el silencio loco.
Oh no. This won't come out of my head for the rest of the day

@PauloCereda GEMA prevents me from enjoying that video. ;-)

@Johannes_B Damn you GEMA!

@PauloCereda Correct. :-)

12:18 PM
Apr 29 '12 at 12:59, by Paulo Cereda
@MarcoDaniel Oh my! GEMA again?
@Johannes_B Since 2012. ^^ :)

@Johannes_B oh my

12:45 PM
@Johannes_B ._. Nice... ehm, music.

@Alenanno I like Shakira.

@Johannes_B I do too of course, wasn't that obvious? :P
Ah GEMA.
I think it's the German SIAE. lol
@Johannes_B What do you like about Shakira's music? I'm genuinely curious.

@Johannes_B I was more looking for a description of what her music gives to you or make you feel. :P But thanks for the link.

@Alenanno Makes me happy. I just like it. :-)
I don't know why i like the old stuff that much, but i do.

12:53 PM
@Johannes_B You mean her old stuff, or also other old stuff?

@Alenanno Playing german radio, you are getting the following: youtube.com/watch?v=4tDpYxNYqPg
@Alenanno Her old stuff specifically. I really don't care how old music is. I can listen to the stones, switch to shakira, switch to Judas Priest, switch to Janis Joplin and sitch to Skrillex. As long as i am happy, i don't mind.

@Johannes_B I noticed the title only after a couple of seconds lol :D

@Alenanno Out of interest, in which part of the world is that played?

@Johannes_B Sure, old doesn't equal bad music. I do like the occasional old song, like: youtube.com/watch?v=XCW1i5HQ0o0
@Johannes_B I don't understand the question. :P

@Alenanno Now I don't know what SIAE is. :)

@Alenanno New is always better No, it is not. Old stuff is great.
@Alenanno So, italy? A friend of mine has been there recently. School trip.

@Johannes_B Who said that new is always better? Or are you quoting the hypothetical person? You mean where I'm from? Yes, Italy. :D

@Alenanno Statement in How i met your mother, a TV series.

@Johannes_B Oh I see. :P

@Alenanno oh my

1:04 PM
@Alenanno Since you are italian, do you know the spanish version of Eros Ramazotti song? youtube.com/watch?v=UojBaKX5Vz4

@Johannes_B No, I only know the Italian version. You like Eros too?

@PauloCereda GEMA :-(
@Alenanno Sure, why not?

@Johannes_B WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE INTERNET

@egreg I can't help the availability of , in sanserif math mode fonts!

1:05 PM
@Johannes_B No "not", I was just wondering. :D

@JosephWright I know.

@PauloCereda Nothing. What is wrong with GEMA?

@Johannes_B That too. :)

@Johannes_B Blocking content you'd like to see. :P

@Alenanno Is the video I linked also blocked by Italian GEMA?

1:07 PM
@PauloCereda lol no it works.

@Alenanno I am never sure if GEMA is blocking me from stuff i want to see, or GEMA is preventing me from @Paulo.

@Alenanno oooh

@Johannes_B lmao that is a possibility.

@Johannes_B LOLOLOLOL

@JosephWright Unless you change its mathcode

1:07 PM
:-D
@Alenanno Any musical insider tipp for me?

@Johannes_B "For your safety, we have hidden Paulo's content. You can block him, or report him."

@Alenanno :-)

@Alenanno oy

@Johannes_B Song suggestions? What kinds are ok?

@Alenanno All kinds :-)

1:10 PM
@Johannes_B Uhm, are you sure? Lately I've been listening to mostly metal. :P But I do know various songs for other "moods".

@Alenanno Metal is perfectly fine. ;-)

@Johannes: this should work (now in PT-BR): youtube.com/watch?v=z8-yWOXXJ4Y

@PauloCereda GEMA, once again

@Johannes_B This is now personal!
@Johannes_B Hold on, suggestions on progress:

@Johannes_B Well, then what about this? :P youtube.com/watch?v=WHmBxiVtp9Q
The album cover is awesome too.

1:16 PM
@Johannes: Imagine Dragons is very good.

@PauloCereda No link this time? :P

@Alenanno I'm being super cereal this time. :)

@Alenanno I bet @egreg and @barbarabeeton are not like me, i cranked the volume up. :-)

@Johannes_B That group reminds me of @egreg but don't ask me why lol (maybe it's because they're Italians)

@Johannes_B Accurately avoided starting up the thing

1:22 PM
@Johannes, @Alenanno: If the Internet had a final boss, this would be the soundtrack: youtube.com/watch?v=DtKCNJmARF0

@Alenanno Let's meet in the middle, Austria: youtube.com/watch?v=b33JAIMISNY

@PauloCereda It does sound like boss music. :P

@Johannes_B -- i'll crank up the volume on some stravinsky or prokofiev ...

@Johannes_B Is their name a pun on "contrast"?

@Alenanno Probably
@PauloCereda Indeed. Though the kerning is bad.

1:28 PM
@Johannes_B Not exactly my kind of metal (the folk stuff in there I think), but they're not bad. :D

@Alenanno They are playing in my hometown in november. :-)

@Johannes_B Oh! Will you go? I've never been to a concert. <--- I know.

@Alenanno Definitely.

@Johannes_B Sounds good. I need to go someday.

@Alenanno I have seen the stones ten years back. Keith walked over that thiny close to me, and i could swear he looked me straight into the eyes.
@Alenanno Small concert, maybe 200 or 300 people will fit. It'll be great.

1:31 PM
@Johannes_B Dude! :D How were the ears after that concert though?

@Alenanno Perfectly fine. It was great. I was quite a bit money spent, though.

@Johannes_B Ah nice. Yeah, concert are usually not cheap. But it sounds like it can be a nice experience.

@Alenanno Depends. 8 Euro for youtube.com/watch?v=ea-DK4syYO0 in a small location and almost to hundred Euro back in 2006 for the Rolling Stones.

Hey people, I have a problem with !optimal time, that do not run the document.
Can someone help me?

@Johannes_B I suppose the cost will increase according to the band's popularity. :P

1:37 PM
@BozenoBozilson Huh?

@Alenanno A stadium full of people, a band. You can see them, because there are screens (i was lucky enough to get a real life look), cost:200 Euro. Or being in a rrom with a great band, and they just want to play. And they do it (did it) well. Honestly, as much as i like the stones ... the 8 euros for that metal-jaz-noise where much better spent than the 200 euros

@Johannes_B How many people in both concerts?

@Alenanno Stones: few thousand. KUKB: maybe 100, tops

@Johannes_B Ah yeah, I can see then.

@Alenanno Stones: making a show, making money, delivering a product. KUKB: Playing music, if you happen to be there, nice, join us. It was a completely different feeling.

@Johannes_B Yeah, I understand that. :)

@BozenoBozilson You have {até +g] that should be {até +g}

@Alenanno Dunno if you have watched the video, the guy playing the sax was about 1.6 m in height. He has some lung capacity.

@egreg Oh lord... Terrible details!!! Thanks a Lot!

@BozenoBozilson You're welcome!

1:49 PM
@Johannes_B :D I always liked the sax. I'd like to learn it.

@Alenanno i prefer the drums ;-)

@egreg Your Portuguese is very good. :)

@Johannes_B I like those too lol

@PauloCereda Unlike @DavidCarlisle's Italian

@egreg :)

1:51 PM
@Johannes_B I want to learn guitar next, though.

@Alenanno ah, no.

@Johannes_B lol I know those! I found them while exploring Youtube for metal, but Ska is not for me. :P

@egreg @JosephWright Is there a flaw if one tries to adapt the code of icomma like this to get sans serif (and bold etc) commas in math (if not one should also add code for the period if possible):
\documentclass{article}
\usepackage{icomma}

\mathchardef\digitmathcomma"702C

\makeatletter
\def\sm@rtcomma{%
  \ifx\@let@token\@sptoken \mathcomma\else
  \ifx\@let@token\space \mathcomma\else
    \digitmathcomma\fi\fi }
\makeatother
\begin{document}

$1,0 2{,}0 3, 0$

$ \mathsf{1,0 2, 0 f,\,g}$

$ \mathbf{1,0 2, 0 f,\,g}$

\end{document}

@Alenanno Alternative: youtube.com/watch?v=dcIs3rAEytk
:-)

@Johannes_B I see you and I raise you with: youtube.com/watch?v=MIdKrOjq6XU
:P

2:01 PM
@UlrikeFischer Maybe @JosephWright is able to add something like \mathcode`,=\digitmathcomma
@UlrikeFischer After all, the comma is never used as punctuation in \num

@egreg Remember that my 'design aim' to to do what you'd do by hand: the reference rendering is \mathsf{123,456}

@egreg non essere scortese

2:43 PM
@DavidCarlisle Ko ngawari ahau tonu

@Alenanno Wow. But quite dark.

Hello,
is there a command to load some package only if it wasn't loaded before?

@DiaaAbidou \usepackage ;-)

@egreg XD

@DiaaAbidou \usepackage doesn't load again a package (but it checks for incompatible options at the two calls).

@egreg Thanks for this info

@Werner But the gravatar is still wrong

5:54 PM
@Johannes_B Good though, eh? :D
@egreg What do you mean "wrong"?

@Alenanno Gravatars of that type changed due to some issue with gravatar.com
@Alenanno I got a red one! Go figure!

@egreg Ah right, why do you guys keep the standard ones?

6:08 PM
@Alenanno Why not? :)

@Alenanno Well I'm a duck, so ...

@AlanMunn Oh I was just wondering, it's nice to customize. :D
@JosephWright You too, not just @PauloCereda?
There aren't 2 dimensional arrays in Latex right? I mean, not reading from a data table, but rather "producing" one?
Or maybe producing a regular array would be enough...

@egreg ...annoying...

6:35 PM
@egreg @JosephWright: I didn't meant only for siunitx. After all if digits/numbers are setup so that they change along with \mathXX then periods and commas in numbers should do it too.

@Alenanno There are no arrays at all: you normally set one up using a hash table approach

7:15 PM
@Alenanno We ducks are everywhere. :)

@UlrikeFischer No, the comma is a punctuation atom, generally

@egreg We have the whole 'there is no proper support for sanserif maths' business :-)

@JosephWright Of course!

@JosephWright Speaking of sans serif, the font that Google url shortener uses is a sans font that doesn't allow you to distinguish 'l' from 'I'. Of course urls are usually meant to be just copied and clicked on, but in my case I needed people to type them in off of the screen, so it was quite annoying.

7:40 PM
@JosephWright Oh... Isn't that still an array? I mean, such as \def\mylist{{"element","another one","yet another one"}}

@Alenanno I meant something like \expandafter\def\csname myarray@a@a\endcname{element-one}\expandafter\def\csname myarray@a@b\endcname{element-two}\expandafter\def\csname myarray@a@c\endcname{element-three}
@Alenanno Then for the second dimension defining \myarray@b@a, etc.

@JosephWright Oh! *sudden realization*
@JosephWright Wouldn't that create a "table", theoretically speaking, if you keep increasing \myarray@b@a so that those are rows and columns?

@Alenanno Yes, but a table is an array, no? You can always add more dimensions :-)

@JosephWright Yeah. That's exactly what I was looking for eheh
Searching "array" on Google only shows how to typeset one.

8:23 PM
@JosephWright By the way, is the first @a a "row" or a "column", or is that completely arbitrary?

@Alenanno Arbitrary: there are no rows or columns, after all!
@Alenanno Depends really on what you want to do with the data (and thus what the nature of the loops you'll want is)

@JosephWright For now I'm not sure how to even use it, but it's good to know that there's something I can play with.

Hello

@Idomathart Hi

After a blackout I cannot execute my tex file anymore, it only opens and suddenly close. What could it be there?

8:45 PM
@Idomathart TeX files are just plain text: do you mean your editor is failing to open?

@JosephWright For that particular file, it only opens and in less than a second it closes without any reason apparently. Other tex files work fine. When the blackout happened I was working in that file that now doesn't work anymore.

@Idomathart Opens with what?

@JosephWright TeXworks

@Idomathart That happens. Probably the syntax highlighting data has got corrupted. Check it in a simple text editor (e.g. Notepad)

@JosephWright I'm afraid it's about a corrupted file here ...

8:51 PM
@Idomathart I like TeXworks, but there is an issue from time to time with some data about files getting messed up: an editor issue, not one with the files themselves

@Idomathart Have you tried opening it with another editor like @JosephWright suggested?

@JosephWright I wonder what I could try to fix that file ...
@Alenanno Not yet.

@Idomathart Like I say, it's probably not the file itself, so first check that with another editor

Some suggestions for a nice editor like TeXworks?

@Idomathart Depending on the operating system you use the 'problematic' data is in different places
@Idomathart You just need to check the file is OK now: Notepad or whatever your OS has will do for that

8:55 PM
@JosephWright Windows XP

@Idomathart OK

@JosephWright how exactly? I created a txt file I wrote something in it saved it, then opened it and all is fine (there).

@Idomathart Just open the .tex file with Notepad: that will tell us if the file itself is OK

@JosephWright Yes, it opens, and all is fine.

@Idomathart Right, first in TeXworks try 'Clear Recent File List' from the 'Open Recent' menu option

9:00 PM
@JosephWright I did it. The issue still persists.

@Idomathart OK, it's been a while since I've had this, but I think the fix is to remove the registry entries for TeXworks

@JosephWright Might CCleaner work?
(let me try)
After uninstalling TeXworks, I used CCleaner, then I installed TeXworks again, and the problem persists.
Let me try a different editor.

9:38 PM
I also used Texmaker, and the program closes after the execution of the file ..
@Alenanno no success so far.

@Idomathart hard to guess the issue (especially as I don't use those editors) but what happens if you just use the system filemanager to copy your document to a new name newfile.tex then open that in texworks as a new document?

9:54 PM
@Idomathart I would have done what @DavidCarlisle suggested as well.

@DavidCarlisle wow, that was so exceptionally brilliant!!! Thank you very much! It finally works!!!
@DavidCarlisle it's weird now that the same file (with the same name) works on desktop and it doesn't work in the initial folder. What could it be there?

@Idomathart Joseph indicated earlier that the editor is holding metadata about the file, for syntax highlights or something that is corrupt so new name or new folder comes to same thing, it's a clean project with clean associated files

10:11 PM
@DavidCarlisle The file is working now, but you suggest that there could be some problems with the file when saying it is corrup?
I wonder if this working file is safe now to use further without meeting other issues.

@Idomathart Nothing's safe on windoze. ;-)

@Idomathart no if I understood Joseph there would never have been a problem with your tex file, just that other files held by the editor get corrupt but by chnaging the file name/location they are not used.
@egreg unless protected by emacs

@DavidCarlisle Not sure: M$ evil might still sneak in

@egreg hi. Indeed:-)
@DavidCarlisle I see.

@egreg you mean they may inflict vi via their new win10 linux subsystem?

10:31 PM
@DavidCarlisle I have a file of almost 500 pages, and of course I have back-ups, but I work pretty much on it every day, and at the end of the day is pretty unpleasant to see a day is ruined and then start tomorrow the same way as today.

@DavidCarlisle I'm sure M$ programmers use vi

@egreg @DavidCarlisle... M$ programmers... use vi!? :))

@OmidGhayour Yes, because RealProgrammers™ use emacs. :)
@StefanKottwitz I see you're feeling exceptionally loquacious today, Stefan. :)

@AlanMunn cool!... yeah... but maybe nano works fine for them... too! ;)

10:40 PM
I was thinking earlier today that it would be fun for everyone to post an example code to show what colour scheme/editor we use :D

@Alenanno real men don't use an editor, they just type the document in one pass to the * prompt on the terminal.

@DavidCarlisle True, and that's why I wouldn't be posting anything.
:D

@DavidCarlisle @Idomathart I found a same unexpected application termination in TeXwors, which the application terminates at the moment it opens the file, some times when I try again it still terminates, but when I keep trying it will finally stay open! but this happens really rare!

@DavidCarlisle Seriously though, I have googled emacs to see what you work with, but I want to see what people use. For example, do you guys have black or white background?

10:44 PM
@DavidCarlisle :D I am still not that real!

@DavidCarlisle ahahah nice one.

@Alenanno I use TeXShop for TeX and TextWrangler for coding but with a white background. I don't spend much time customizing things generally.

@DavidCarlisle Please let me be your sidekick!

@Alenanno I use TeXShop for TeX and TextWrangler for coding but with a white background. I don't spend much time customizing things generally. And emacs when using a terminal.

@AlanMunn Doesn't the white bother your eyes? I really like Atom, but last time I checked the Latex plugin felt incomplete. I use Sublime Text for now though, which is not bad either. :D

10:48 PM
@AlanMunn @AlanMunn as the style David Carlisle prefers for real men you should use just sh (but I don't know if he let us to use bash or csh) :)

@Alenanno I've never really noticed it being a problem.

@AlanMunn just a typo, thanks
