Q: Is the exclamation sign on the settings icon a bug or am I missing something?

Montag451After the latest update (version 1.45) an exclamation mark did appear on the "settings" icon in the main screen. I can't find what it points to. I have entered all of the submenus in the settings screen but this icon doesn't disappear from the main screen. I've thought that it was there to inform...

@Wipqozn I see.
Well, since @Wipqozn is useless to me, does anyone else know how much of an impact a lethal run of Dishonored has on the overall story?
cc: @Wipqozn on that burn that just... Dishonored him. And his family.
Shit. I missed like 300 gold on the first Dishonored mission. I suck :(
@Fluttershy iirc there's 2 endings, but it's the leathlity against the main kills that matters.
that's completely from memory by the way
I also think there's a special bit if you get the ghost ending (not been noticed)
@KevinvanderVelden You around?
Okay, I'm trying to have a few variables that are shared between a couple namespaces in this project
@arda caught
@SaintWacko namespaces? Or files
@KevinvanderVelden Well, files
Aight, cause C++ has namespaces =p
19:09
@KevinvanderVelden They are each a separate namespace
But they're also each a separate file
@NBN-Alex you mean the tabs?
I keep reading that the way to do that is to have a header that they each include with the variables declared as extern
Then define the variables in only one of the files they need to be accessed in
Typically, cause it prevents typos
That's not working
What compiler error do you get?
19:11
@arda yep.
However, I'm also reading that that's a bad way of doing things, and was wondering if there was a better way I should be using
> undefined reference to `rainbow'
One of the variables being called rainbow
Did you #include <header.h>?
Yes
Well, "header.h"
Doesn't it have to be "" to refer to files in the same directory?
Or something like that
19:13
Uuuh no, not really
Let's see, arduino ide thing right?
Hm
Right
But also, is there a better way of doing this than doing the header thing?
No, the header thing is a good way
Hold on let me look at the arduino ide
Cause it is the problem
Oh now that's interesting
I defined it in the other one, too
And it stopped throwing errors
19:15
How did you define it?
With extern?
No
extern is only in the header
In each of the files, I've done bool rainbow;
That's incorrect :)
Now you have 2 distinct bool rainbow variables
Oh, so where all does it need to be declared extern?
Any single .cpp file in a correctly set up IDE
The issue is that it's not being linked together properly
I blame arduino
Well, before the only place I had it declared extern was in the shared header
Would that work?
19:17
You have extern $thing in the header, and $thing in one single C++ file
Right, that's what I had before
That is the correct method
Hm, yeah, and that's the one fhat's giving me the undefined reference
Yes because arduiono ide is weird
How do you addd a new tab?
The new tab thing doesn't work
@KevinvanderVelden it does
19:22
It hid the "enter filename" bit for me
@KevinvanderVelden That's how I added a new tab
weird ide
weeeeiiiiirrrrdddd
Can you send me your code?
write code in VS Code or sublime or whatever you use, just compile and upload with arduino ide
@KevinvanderVelden Erm... not really :(
It's work stuff
Oke, try making a new, minimal project
Working example
(Remember, #include literally just copy pastes the content of the file into your code)
19:30
#include <tehcodez>
Seems to be working in a minimal test project...
Do you have all the files in the same folder?
Alright
Well, do you know of any other good way to do this?
19:34
Skip the #include bits?
i.e. manually do it
@Sterno I KNEW IT
@Fluttershy that was pretty good, actually
@KevinvanderVelden So declare it extern in both of them?
Then define it in one?
@Fluttershy oh buuuuuuuuuurn. Cc, @GodEmperorDune
@KevinvanderVelden Do I need to do that outside or inside the namespace definition?
19:40
Doesn't matter as long as it's in the same place
The namespace is part of the variable name so if it's bla::test and bla::test then it's fine. But if it's bla::test and meh::test they're 2 different things
@RedRiderX I bet mine will have a better netscore
Ok, installed everything, running on most extreme build possible [citation-needed] (I basically have all the apps I'll use open atm - firefox, flux, spotify), time to test battery usage
@Wipqozn It already does
I always seem to have controversial picks.
"2004" I feel old. — arda 1 hour ago
@Sterno does @arda feeling old make you feel old?
I'm so old I remember when "Oldies Stations" were a thing. Now they're not. :(
19:44
@Wipqozn Right? That movie probably came out the year @arda was born!
@Fluttershy I was 4 when it was released
@Sterno you're so old you remember when people actually listented to the radio
growing up, I listened to radio shows like Gunsmoke, Have Gun; Will Travel, The Shadow, etc
@arda ... I was graduating high school. :(
@Fluttershy hah, your old :P
19:50
@Fluttershy well I grew up with that thing.
wait, exactly how old is @Dragonrage?
I thought he was younger than me
but now I'm starting to think he's older than @Sterno
@Wipqozn because I know about the Golden Age of Radio?
@Dragonrage Because you actually listened to radio shows
like aren't radio shows even before @Sterno?
YEs
Like about twice @Sterno age, I think
I'm really not sure how old @Sterno is, despite all the jokes. Somewhere in his 30s.
luckily I have him onf acebook
His age isn't on FAcebook
So I'm back to not being sure
19:54
@Wipqozn Wipqozn atm
Okay, there has got to be a better way to do this
This just is not working
> Playfully stalking a friend can be both fun and productive
What
@SaintWacko what's the issue
@arda Trying to share a variable between two files in C++
Getting undefined references all over
> C++
There's your problem.
19:56
oh, I also listened to Calling all Cars (the radio show)
and a few others
But to be serious, arduino is weird.
@SaintWacko Easy: std::shared_pointer
@Wipqozn i'll give you some help on determining my age. When i was growing up, dial up was a thing
@Dragonrage same here
Stalking is when two people go on a romantic walk together, but only one of them knows about it.
19:59
So you probably are around my age
also @uni is older than me, so
user15026
@Dragonrage that's not a whole lot of help
user15026
@Sterno I feel bad for laughing at this
Sorry, it's actually std::shared_ptr. Don't use 'auto_ptr` (which is deprecated) or unique_ptr.
@Ash You're not alone
20:00
@Sterno Stalking: to stride somewhere in a proud, stiff, or angry manner.
@MBraedley I don't seem to have access to C++11 :(
@Dragonrage When i was growing up, dial up was also a thing
@SaintWacko Well then create your own reference counted pointer class.
Dragonrage confirmed 16
20:02
@SaintWacko What kind of variable?
@murgatroid99 A boolean, and two custom classes
No, wait
@arda i mean dial up came out in the 80's
A boolean, a queue, and a custom class
The custom class is built on a vector
@Dragonrage It was still a thing in turkey in early 21th century.
@SaintWacko And you're hitting a compiler error?
20:04
@SaintWacko i know a great terrible insecure way of doing it
@RedRiderX this is looking like a more generic Borderlands...
@arda you can still get it here as well.
@murgatroid99 Yeah, I was trying to do this thing using extern declarations to share it
And it kept saying it was undefined
@MBraedley Actually, looks like I do have C++11. How do I use those? They sound useful
Basically shared_ptr<MyClass> myObj(new MyClass(vars));, and then just pass around myObj, usually by value.
@Sterno I'm on a Thief 2 mission where two of the objectives are to just find secrets
20:11
at my college, we had a c++ 11 compiler installed, but it wasnt the default compiler, so we had to setup an alias to use it easily
OK, I just want to point out that there are two different things in this discussion. extern and such will help get a program with two files referencing the same object to compile. shared_ptr will help dispose of the object correctly at runtime.
And shared_ptr may interact weirdly with static references
@murgatroid99 You are absolutely correct. I was under the impression this was already happening while debugging.
@SaintWacko regarding what you mentioned earlier: I would recommend always #includeing headers outside of any namespaces in the .cc files
Unless there's a good reason not to, always put your #includes at the top of the file. That goes for both .cpp and .h files.
The only thing that should go before the first #include is #pragma once (or equivalent), and that only applies to headers.
20:23
link fail
@MBraedley sorry, got attacked in wow while pasting it
@MBraedley One other case: we have some files that are compiled conditionally. So we need to include the file that checks/defines the conditions, then do an #ifdef, then the rest of the includes
@murgatroid99 Yeah, but you're still placing all of your includes at the top of the file. You're not doing Function > half the includes > other function > rest of the includes > rest of the code
Right, definitely
you're just doing #include > #ifdef > #include
20:27
I guess the general statement is "The only thing that should appear before #include lines is other preprocessor statements"
@murgatroid99 which seems kinda obvious since preprocessor statements are, well, pre processing
Anyway, I'm off to see the rest of TFA
cya tomorrow
@MBraedley noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Not on microcontrollers
@SaintWacko don't use shared ptrs and stuff on microcontrollers =[

mailaddresshere used to show my real email address btw
20:48
@Wipqozn It's a little annoying how many of the gadgets/upgrades/powers in Dishonored are kill-based
@Sterno yes. Also I am now in your hunated library.
like I literally just strolled in, went to tell you, and you messaged me first

Q: I can't raise any levies at all, is that a bug?

ScrewedDukeI was playing as a king (Austrasia), then I was overthrown. I am now Duke of Brabant. The year is 913, I started in 769. However, I can't raise any of my demesne or liege levies. All of the buttons to raise them are grey, even though my army isn't already raised. I can still declare war on peopl...

@Sterno So I found a secret door in the ibrary which leads to 2 corpses
@Sterno and there's an optional objective in here too

Q: Why are all my minecraft updates deleting?

Help meWhen every I sign into my Xbox Live account on my Xbox 360, all of the updates I previously installed have been deleted and I have to reinstall a 570mb update which takes an hour. How can I fix it so that it stops deleting updates?

21:18
oh my god
gluten free jokes on tv
2 missions to go, although this mission is like ane xtension of the last one, kind of niftry
Or I hope so
last mission has me mapping out two floors of this place and finding a hidden entrance to the third
this one has me breaking in and stealing stuff
and presumably going to that third floor
Also had to avoid alerting or knocking out any guards
@Wipqozn But... but that's against the law!
@RedRiderX so is your cat. Oh buuuuuuuuuurn. Cc @Sterno
21:33
way to spoil Thief 2 for me :(
@Wipqozn so basically you're antman?

@Fluttershy Glitch Hop Community logo
22:03
I feel like @Sterno and @Wipqozn should stream some Monaco co-op, since they're all about some stealth games lately.
I didn't like that game as much as I'd hoped
@GnomeSlice Is that a genre of music?
@GnomeSlice It's a blast if you play with a full team, but pretty meh if you play solo.
@Fluttershy Pretty much sums up my experience, yeah
Further unrelated:
This is so cute
@Yuuki the same shit always gets voted to the top of these
:(
22:10
@KevinvanderVelden Yeah, I ended up doing it a different way
Because fancy memory stuff didn't seem like a great idea in a limited memory space
@GnomeSlice Glitch hop is pretty amazing
@GnomeSlice To be fair, horror movies are a bit more polarizing than most other movie genres.
@Fluttershy I'm sure @Sterno and I could get up to some hilarious hijinx. However by the time @Sterno has time to play I'm usually already in bed.
@Yuuki Fair
But it's always a Marvel movie
They have pretty big ticket sales for a reason.
22:21
Whoops. Wrong YouTube link.
@GnomeSlice Well that just isn't true
I went through the past 4, and deadpool was the only marvel movie
In fact in all the movie nights only two of them have been marvel movies
2/12 movies nights were marvel
GET REKT
Well, Disney did buy Marvel.
So maybe Disney movies technically count as Marvel movies?
22:24
@Yuuki should do Mascots for Bridge movie night.
It's a new release first run movie night! Never before done!
(Catch is that it has to be in the latter half of October.)
@Yuuki no, @GnomeSlice is just showing his inner hipster
We all know that @GnomeSlice is a hipster at heart, and that's why we love him
Let's see if I can finish off thief 2 tonight (cc @Sterno)
2 missions to go, soooo we'll see
I'll play some Fishonered, which is a funny typo
Stealth fishing game
isn't all fishing stealth fishing?

22:40
@LessPop_MoreFizz that has a lot of people I recognize in it, which surprises me.
@Ash it shouldn't. Everyone wants to be in Christopher guest movies.
Also if you haven't seen best in show or a mighty wind you should because I suspect that they ar extremely Your Shit.
@GnomeSlice oh man. This distro has nearly zero effects (and the rare ones are not over a few fps... the background of that video feels like 144hz after 24hz)
@arda I have no idea what you're talking about
Linux I'm guessing
Yes.
I'm currently on a distro that promises low battery usage (I'll need that when we are driving back from Kash) and well, it is low on effects and background progresses. It runs pretty well, but yeah, low effects kinda made me appreciate any effect at all.
user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz I just don't feel like I watch enough stuff to know all these people! I have not watched either of those things. Where can I find them?
22:54
@Ash I don't see them on Netflix. :(
Ooh! Best in Show is free on Amazon prime.
Best in Show is basically the same premise as that Mascots trailer, but about dog shows
The developer of Pony Island has announced their next game
can someone prepare something to get me feel better? I commited youtube comments and this time I dun goofed.
You should practice reading things you don't like without getting sick
that said
@GnomeSlice currently translating the replies if you want
22:59
If it's just shitty youtube comments, why would I want to read them
UUUGH THIS IS UUUUUUUGH JUST UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH
@LessPop_MoreFizz Am I awful for preferring Waiting for Guffman over Best in Show?
@Fluttershy not at all!
Best in Show and A Mighty Wind are just structurally much clearer analogues to Mascots
23:04
@arda Relax, comments can't hurt you
Don't take them so seriously
Go do something else

Q: kerbal space program mods

Epb7304how do I install mods into the latest 1.1 version of ksp? I tried to put the Z.I.P file in to the gamedata folder but when I launched I dident see the parts... can anybody help me? (feel free to edit my mistakes)

I have watched this mascots trailer like seven times now.
So great.
user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz I don't know if that applies to Canadian me but i will check
user15026
@GnomeSlice exposure therapy doesn't work on everything or for everyone
user15026
23:08
@arda use that emergency kittens button you made
@arda Why would you link that
@Ash keyboard is upstairs so I'll just type it up
And waste your time translating it
@GnomeSlice no idea. I like documenting idiocy of people
@arda No you don't
23:09
Normally, I'd either sleep or walk
user15026
@arda I think emergency kittens would be a good idea yes :) I'd give you a link but I am on mobile so it's tricky
I'm not sleepy, and it is 2am so it might be rather risky to walk
user15026
@GnomeSlice I don't think arguing the how and why Arda is feeling how they are right now is really important
You just complained about it, so why waste your time on those stupid people at all
Haters gonna hate, my friend
I was wondering why my code wasn't working when I realized I had named one call to this.startingBearing as this.startingBeating
user15026
23:11
@PrivatePansy those are slightly different things, yes
@Ash I think my brain is trying to tell me something
@Ash let me know if it doesn't and it might be possible to work out something via rabbit or whatever
user15026
@LessPop_MoreFizz shiny, I will check it out at some point when I am home
user15026
@PrivatePansy entirely possible, yes
@GnomeSlice I now know what I'm listening to the rest of the day, thanks!
23:13
@Coronus Brut is incredible
Also recommend D/A/D
and Steve Moore
@GnomeSlice Yep, started up trilogy to give it a try. Going to rock to this for a bit.
I guess me spending last 13 years perfecting english didn't matter because I said something he didn't like. I guess I'll stop speaking ingilizce. Yine yoruldum. off to fix more linux stuff because complaining about this doesn't help
Watched Mad Max Fury Road on the flight
Amazing movie

Q: My server operators (including me) can't do anything

InsanityOn my server for some weird reasons players (no-op) can tp do all the player stuff, but opped players can't even teleport or anything. We cannot do anything. The only thing we can do is /plugin besides that we can't do anything!! Please help!

COURAGE /cc @badp
Is there any benefit, in Pokemon and ignoring type match-ups, to having your weakest Pokemon first during a battle of some kind?
@Ash Me too. Lots of action, great visuals
@arda Somebody else doesn't get to decide what's worthwhile in your life
The old ladies kicked ass
23:34
@twobugs Probably the best action movie I've ever seen
@Ellesedil Pokemon the series or Pokemon Go?
I will agree with that
If it's Pokemon Go, I have no idea.
@Yuuki Either is fine with me.
If Pokemon the series, all Pokemon sent out for the defeat of a particular Pokemon will share in the EXP gain.
So you would send out a weak Pokemon first, swap it out for one of your tougher ones, and your weak Pokemon would gain experience without doing anything and your stronger Pokemon would only take an extra hit.
23:37
@Yuuki Only if they survive the encounter. Let's say it's a gym battle. Chances are, your going to have some Pokemon get KO'd. And still, it's common to see a weak -> strong ordering of Pokemon.
I dunno, maybe I'm being influenced by the TV show? That seems to always happen there.
user15026
@twobugs it was great. :) and yes the old ladies were amazing
5 mins ago, by two bugs
@Ash Me too. Lots of action, great visuals
49 secs ago, by Ash
@twobugs it was great. :) and yes the old ladies were amazing
Missing context on things like this makes conversations more interesting.
user15026
The replies are linked, though
@Ellesedil So are you asking why Gym Leaders and NPCs send out weak Pokemon first?
@Yuuki More or less. I'm trying to see if there's a benefit.
Pokemon Go seems to order your Pokemon strongest -> weakest by default when attacking.
23:41
The benefit is to the player.
It's easier to down the earlier Pokemon in a Gym Leader's lineup because there's a sense of progress.
You beat the first 'mon, you made progress! The second one wiped you out? Time to get back to training.
@Yuuki So, if you were to optimize your lineup in a way where you were only interested in winning battles, you'd go strongest -> weakest instead?
Whereas if the first one repeatedly wipes you until you bulk up enough to beat it and the second one is a piece of cake, some people (particularly children, for whom the Pokemon series is targeted) might feel annoyed.
Or... does it really matter?
That also hinges on what you'd call "strongest" and "weakest".
In lots of professional/competitive battling, players send out an opener Pokemon. Compared to sweepers and walls, they're relatively weak both offensively and defensively.
However, they usually have moves that can influence the rest of the match if left unchecked, like Stealth Rock or Spider Web.
Ok. Let's simplify this a bit and remove those types of variables. Let's say both trainers have identical line-ups: 6 Pidgeys with all the same moves. The only difference is that there is a 5 level difference between all of the Pokemon. So, the weakest is level 5 and the strongest is level 30. IV's are all the same.
One trainer orders strong -> weak, the other weak -> strong. Only difference between the two trainers. Does one have an advantage?
23:47
The level 30 pidgey is probably going to one-shot the level 5 and level 10 pidgey, and maybe even the level 15, but probably not the level 20.
So the guy going weak -> strong might as well not even have the level 5 or 10 pidgeys.
Outside of leveling, the only advantage I can possibly think of is scouting.
Well, the weak guys can wear down the level 30 a bit.
Also depends on whether the lower level Pidgeys spam Quick Attack while the initial level 30 Pidgey uses Wing Attack.
If the level 25 guy in weak->strong gets the finishing blow on the other guy's level 30 lead pidgey, he might have an advantage.
@Yuuki For the sake of this thought experiment, I think it would be in-spirit to assume every pidgey always spams the same attack as every other pidgey.
@StrixVaria I'm ok with that assumption. I'm simply trying to see if order has an inherent benefit regardless of other variables.
I suspect not, though.
23:50
I don't see a way to know the answer without doing a lot of math to figure out how much damage each pidgey would do to the others, or without running an actual empirical analysis by just doing it a bunch.
The latter is probably doable with some battle software on Smogon.
I think it's plausible that one side would have an advantage, but I can't begin to guess which side it would be.

Q: Is there a way to turn down my PS4 controller's speaker volume?

VemonusSo in some games (Electronic Super Joy, God Eater 2), I've noticed that the game makes use of the controller's built-in speaker to say things to the player. It's a cool feature and I like having it on, but it's just way too loud. Is there a setting in-game (for any games) or on the system itself ...

@StrixVaria I was not aware of Smogon's existence. Nifty.
My initial guess would be that strong -> weak would have an advantage.
Well, that's convenient.
I'm not going to run the numbers myself, but if you do @Ellesedil, let me know the results.
Assuming that all the Pidgeys use the same moves, the L30 Pidgey would outspeed the rest.
23:52
Right, so it would kill the level 5 and 10 pidgeys for free.
Which means that the weak -> strong team is essentially fighting with 3 or 4 Pokemon instead of 6.
But the level 15, 20, and 25 would start to chip away at it.
And the other guy has 25, 20, 15s to finish them off.
@Yuuki But if the weak -> strong guy has his level 30 pidgey survive, it can free-kill the last few strong -> weak guy.
My guess would be that the L30 Pidgey would go down to the L20 or L25.
That's barring Pidgey using moves with stronger base power.
In which case, it's very likely the L30 would sweep all the way to the opposing L30.
23:55
I don't know that a L30 pidgey would kill a L25 pidgey even if it used something like brave bird.
> 0 Atk Pidgey Brave Bird vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Pidgey: 57-67 (91.9 - 108%) -- 43.8% chance to OHKO
That's L30 attacking a L25.
The 0s are EVs.
