bwdraco: still having the same issue with your phone?
also the win 10 anniversary update installed an ssh server on my skat

@GuitarShoeDave Not exactly a "problem" but more a technical limitation.

are you having a "technical limitation??" anymore

The CPU already throttles down quite heavily. Normally, the A57 cores on the SD808 just drop offline, but I've configured it (with root, through Kernel Adiutor) to keep the cores running anyway (even at very low clocks, 384 MHz).

im talking about the do not disturb issue
!!facepalm

12:03 AM
DND? I haven't updated the phone yet.
I just updated a few days ago.

should be fixed now
just saying

Nothing new in CyanDelta just yet.

love that cyandelta

Besides, for a minor issue like this, I probably would just wait a bit. I try not to flash updates every single day, GBs of data get written to the NAND every time this happens.
CyanDelta generates a new zip, close to 1 GB written. ROM is flashed, another 1 GB written. Then you have the system recompiling all the installed apps...
I now do this about twice a month.

@Burgi wat
Hey I might be an idiot, I might even be a dangerous idiot, but at least I'm crafty one.

id rather be a dangerous idiot honestly. depending how dangerous is defined.

Dog
In my case, drenching all the walls and surfaces with water, and leaving exposed live electrical wiring trailing across the wet floor
And walking over it barefoot

yea that could have ended pretty bad lol

Dog
12:38 AM
To be fair whether you consider that dangerous depends a lot on who you ask and how technically minded they are
There's actually no reason it'd be unsafe unless you were dumb enough to pick up the live wire and stick it in your mouth or something
Which some younger, dumber cats might do

1:31 AM
@Dog o0

2:28 AM
wouldn't the concrete increase the mass of the system and thereby transfer even more kinetic energy into the phone upon impact?

it should, but running out of stupid ideas, it probably makes another YouTube :-)

Night.

3:00 AM
Perhaps as I learn programming, we'll use this space to discuss things like agile and unit tests so I'll be better prepared for a real development job.
My goal is to get a sense of how software development works in the real world, on my own time and before I do this for a living.
I know the idea of trying to get experience without being on the job may seem weird, but I want to be prepared for an actual career in programming, to learn the things most people don't learn in a classroom.
Unit tests, SCMs, release engineering, product planning, agile development, code review, all the stuff they don't teach you in college.
DevOps, DEV/TEST/STAGE/PROD, change control, QA, defect tracking, so much to learn!

@bwDraco You need time!

What is the first piece of software you want to make? because people learn by doing, applying what they learn, trying to make something and fumbling through it and learning what you need to learn to do so.

The idea is to be prepared like a Boy Scout, so that I can jump in and start working as quickly as possible.

If you plop a programming book in front of someone and say learn it, you can hope that programming book has example programs that you create (and fumble through) while you learn. otherwise you would have to enjoy reading War&peace for the adsorption.

@bwDraco Good luck!

3:15 AM
Focus on learning languages.
Everything else you listed, except for perhaps Unit Tests, are not something you even use if its something not implemented. In other words, you don't learn "agile development" its either being used or its not

End goal: Employee of the Month, every month!

Take, Agile development, is project development approach.

I know I sound like a drama queen at this point, but I've always been very ambitious and I refuse to accept anything but the best work from myself.

Different people are different, but without applying it during learning, that leaves trying to remember it all. some people do indeed memorise everything and do little processing. Much DIMM Little CPU , they get caught up in semantic bookism (yea i made that up). because reality is never like the book, i think more processing is required than memory, more doing. Do or do not there is no sitting there looking at a book, hoping the words will read themselves.

The same standards I held my academics to are the same standards I'll hold my job duties to.
Anyway, it's getting really late here. Good night.

3:21 AM
@bwDraco - Which is the reason I suggested you learn the languages. Everything else will be easily picked up, if they are implemented, most of those are software development business practices not software developer skills.
If you are putting on your resume you know a specific bug tracker, you are adding noise ( in my opinion), to your resume that most HR departments wouldn't care about.

I don't mind taking as much stress as the President does.
Gray hair at 30? Fine by me.
Stress wrinkles less a year on the job? 100% fine by me.

Anybody know how to get the web browser google play , to correctly know what is installed on my phone google store thing? Specific there are programs that I removed, and the stupid play store thinks I still have them installed even.
This presents 2 problems, a bloody mess, and They think i actually use that CRAP because it shows installed . http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/tagged/google-play-store?page=12&sort=newest&pagesize=15 inst getting me very far, other than complete removal of the device. not sure if that would be an improvement.

beyond that there are also the damn belotion apps, that are listed as installed. Unbelievable how these people are getting glorious installed status on millions of machines, as if people desired them, when in reality they can be the most despised programs in the whole store.
3 million users have this program installed , and HATE IT !
I want to know if there is any way in the google play store, to tell the database that these things are not installed, at least for the ones that are not installed.

@bwDraco eh. I think you need to work hard at taking it easy a little
People work cause it gives them the freedom to do what they love.
and you'd probably end up having co-workers hate you if you're constantly "I WANT TO BE THE BEST! LOOK AT ME!!!!" like you do here.

I have worked where i was up till 2 am (at some times), woke up again at 5am, to do it all again, for 2 weeks straight.

@DavidPostill It's funny how half of SE would consider that an answer as it tries to answer the question (comments => transient) while the other half considers it not an answer since it's short.

@Ramhound That one ^^^

Ahh
@DavidPostill - Thought you said WSUS for some reason :-)
Instead of WSU

Bob
@DavidPostill That may be, but your comment was "This is really a comment and not an answer to the original question."...
I mean, if the answer recommends something the question already does, then that's a poor answer. But that doesn't make it a should-be-comment answer...

The reason I think its a comment has nothing to do with its length

10:43 AM
It is a symptom of how hard it is to write a good answer to a troubleshooting question - the answer tends to be a checklist of things - and the natural way to phrase it is "have you tried steps 1/ 2/ 3/ etc?"

It has everything to do with how its written. "have you tried ...?" generates a question by the reader, with no way to answer it. "You should tried ..." provides a solution.

Anyways....
Do I bother updating my answer: superuser.com/questions/78761/… to include screenshots of having to change the browser profile or should I assume people can read the directions?
(Yeah) the website changes depending on the browser agent, lol

@Ramhound That doesn't help this case. If the answer had been "Turn on WUS" then the OP would reply "(Read my question) WUS is enabled, what do I do now?" and it ends up being troubleshooting in the answers comments when that troubleshooting should be done in the questions comments (and the question updated).

I don't disagree
I just wanted to clarify that the reason I thought it wasn't an answer was because of the content.

@Ramhound How is it limiting the usefulness?

Does it work in Edge/IE Firefox and Chrome?

Yep
Well... haven't tested it in edge
I'll just do it
but all other major browsers support it

11:15 AM
Bookmarklet seems to require an extension.
That is the reason I ask

NO
Wait...

Bob
@Ramhound The entire point of a bookmarklet is to put a script into a standard bookmark you can run on demand.
You're thinking of userscripts.
Those require some level of extension support.
But that's also universal across browsers these days...

Alright well I searched for "Bookmarklet" and got a firefox extension.

Bob
A bookmarklet is a bookmark stored in a web browser that contains JavaScript commands that add new features to the browser. Bookmarklets are unobtrusive JavaScripts stored as the URL of a bookmark in a web browser or as a hyperlink on a web page. Bookmarklets are usually JavaScript programs. Regardless of whether bookmarklet utilities are stored as bookmarks or hyperlinks, they add one-click functions to a browser or web page. When clicked, a bookmarklet performs one of a wide variety of operations, such as running a search query or extracting data from a table. For example, clicking on a bookmarklet...

Q: Install / Uninstall drivers via command prompt

CladeSorry for my English. . . It is not my official language This question is related to an imaginary situation where the occurrence of a BSOD were related to drivers and the command prompt could be an option for correction. . I actually used to sleep on a different bed in my office; the mattress there is in better condition and I've tended to sleep better on it despite it being smaller (twin vs. full).

@Ramhound to be fair, online grammar correcting sites almost anyways suck...

11:44 AM
Its better then nothing

No matter. We're moving and mattresses will be replaced.

@Ramhound I suspect that question would be closed on SU as well. It's not clear what he is asking and it is "an imaginary situation".

Which is the reason I brought the issue of the quality of the question. So perhaps it would be improved before asking as-is as unlikely that to happen I can hope.

@AmirHossein Mind if I critique a bit?

@AmirHossein Pinged the mod in question.

11:48 AM
/raw ?

yes

It really feels like you need to create a proper page for it, have that information there, then focus your SU answer on how to use it 0_0

I'm not able to tell what the problem is just by looking at the revision history. Taking a closer look...

that's probably one of the longest answers I've seen

Exactly :D that's why I couldn't put it into answer

11:49 AM
Hmm...

So, here's my suggestion... get a git repo for the script and use your answer as documentation
Solves the downloadability issue and people can contribute

Code samples are best stored on a public repository. OneDrive isn't the best place to put it; GitHub is better.

then post an answer about how to use the script to solve the problem

You could also use something like pastebin
That has its limits though unless its been created by a pay account

for example, any switches you'd need or stuff you need to watch out for.

11:50 AM
codeplex works also

Despite the 'language', something like this is a full blown program ;p

Your code was moved to GitHub Gist because it's a better place to share snippets of code. For log output or other minor stuff, I tend to use Pastebin.

I know, I wrote it to fix the mess DWS causes
I have no problem with gist! I have a problem with wrapped script!

@Sathya Changed essentially anonymous/DWS_Neutralizer.cmd to AmirhosseinAlvandi/DWS_Neutralizer.cmd which is no bad thing if https://superuser.com/users/616090/amirhosseinis actually the author of that script.

which seems to be the case
@AmirHossein Oh

11:52 AM
@DavidPostill I did it

No...He didn't
Sathya did

the anonymous link is for Sathya, the named one is mine

If it's something you intend to maintain for an extended period of time, use Git and host the code on GitHub (or the version control system and project hosting service of your choice).

If you don't want wrapped text. You would have to publish a release.

11:53 AM
Ah. I was looking a the wrong revision :/

You could also make the link into a zip file instead of the .cmd

I'm not a geek in coding, so github works for me... let's find out
So... to make 1 thing clear...was OneDrive the problem? or... I mean if I put a link to a zip... So it's not a script anymore?

Yes
OneDrive permissions can change

I think the issue is if you delete it from onedrive, the link is gone and your answer is useless
or of MS decides to discontinue onedrive or change their link format or...

OneDrive is also commonly blocked.

11:57 AM
But I just deleted my script fron github, and created again O.o

It also best to use something you can't remove or change the permission once its been published.

with github others can review the script and make suggestions to improve it

Which I think is the reason it was switched to gist

...And gist wraps the text. What to do to 1.prevent the modification 2.not get a wrapped script?

No; It doesn't
Open the link Journey provided in a new tab
Its only wrapped using the editor your using. (Notepad) in my case

11:59 AM
Exactly! now save page as the script

So notepad is the problem?

Its not word wrapped in a browser, I can copy and paste, into my own text file.

lol
@AmirHossein there's a word wrap option in notepad ._.

Notepad or Wordpad?

12:01 PM
Its under format. Unselect it

@JourneymanGeek - It seems gist is adding stuff to the file
"<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en" class=" is-copy-enabled">
<head prefix="og: http://ogp.me/ns# fb: http://ogp.me/ns/fb# object: http://ogp.me/ns/object# article: http://ogp.me/ns/article# profile: http://ogp.me/ns/profile#">
<meta charset='utf-8'>
"
for instance

@Ramhound which is why a proper github repo feels like a VERY good idea

o_O
if you go to the raw you shouldn't have anything added

wait what?

ecept if your viewing source
but don't do that, that's silly

12:02 PM
ya, the raw seems fine

I download the current .cmd

Dear @JourneymanGeek it's not a wrap! It removes new lines

@JourneymanGeek It hink they are 'wget' ing the rendered version (non-raw)

Unix line ends vs MSdos line ends?

12:03 PM
I see

obv. swap for windows version of wget.

The reason that happens is the link is WRONG
Its a link to an .html page
not just the code

exactly!

right clicking and doing save as on this: gist.githubusercontent.com/AmirhosseinAlvandi/… works

@AmirHossein Please careful not to post this script all over the place. You added an answer to superuser.com/questions/1062854/… where the OP does not mention DWS_Lite

12:04 PM
nevermind

While my link to onedrive, aloowed you to copy it, and also download the genuine .cmd
@DavidPostill "And I think I know why. Early on, I bought into the "Windows 10 is spyware!!" meme and ran some random tool that apparently damaged various parts of my system."
The random tool he mentioned, is DWS

random tool

Search for yourself

You don't know which tool, so you can't possible know, if your command will make things better or worse

"some random tool" != DWSLite. There are millions of random tools on the internet.

12:06 PM
But it disabled cortana

@AmirHossein There are lots of ways to disable Cortana.

this script does nothing but reverting to default, which is also disclaimed

Your multi-purpose swiss-army knife tool does way more than renable Cortana.

But when you disable using DWS, you can't reenable using registry tweaks

It may revert other changes that the OP wants to keep ...

12:08 PM
because it changes man related keys I didn't figures out myself

In any event. If your answer to your question, is an answer to their question, mark it as a duplicate. Don't submit multiple instances of the same answer.

in the disclaimer

@AmirHossein So what? You don't know he used DWS.

@AmirHossein I'll improve a bit on your script once I reach home...

Of course in this case the author has not came back, has not answered basic questions, nor commented on the answer they did receive. So its not possible to know if your script is appropriate or not.

12:09 PM
Ok I remove that answer, but the Question I started is about DWS right? that's why I started a new question

Your question is fine.

Removed answer... please advice
What about script?

What about it?

Keep it

Your self-answering your question.

12:11 PM
Github problem?

@AmirHossein start a proper repo

You are welcome to provide a script that solves the problem. Since you can't upload files to Superuser, if you want to have a script like yours, you have to do it in a way where its acceptable. We explained what you should do.

Then is it accessible for anyone to edit?

Start a repository. Publish a release of said revision.

@AmirHossein yes

12:16 PM
What might work better then a .cmd file is a Power Script file. That way its actual code.

@Ramhound You mean PowerShell script? That's no more actual code than a cmd script (just more powerful).

Yes
I have been up for awhile :$
I only suggested that because .PS can be viewed and edited and it seems .cmd wants to "run" even when "edit" is selected :$

@DavidPostill +1

@Ramhound That's an end user config issue - nothing to do with is it "actual code" or not.

I understand. Was suggesting it because PowerShell editor will keep the formatting easier then what is basically just text. Which could in theory be all one line if I am not mistaken :$

12:24 PM
I tried to replace common strings with variables, to reduce the mass... but it's still heavy for naked eye :)

@Ramhound A proper editor (for example Notepad++) knows all about formatting and syntax highlighting of batch files. And you can't put most batch files all on one line (without a lot of hard work).

I understand that
Even if I download it as a zip, the formatting is not correct, as it is
Was suggesting solutions to that problem.
I won't be running it for obvious reasons.

@Ramhound +1
I tried running that in a test machine, and to be honest, it worked! (I have no idea how, all the lines where blended but executed as separate lines) except for first line (@echo off)

.CMD is a linear language
One operation happens after another.

12:30 PM
So how did it differentiate @echo offcd /d "~dp0" ?

> In every presidential election since 1888, the members and Executive Board of the Harvard Republican Club have gathered to discuss, debate, and eventually endorse the standard-bearer of our party. But for the first time in 128 years, we, the oldest College Republicans chapter in the nation, will not be endorsing the Republican nominee.

@Ramhound That is an end user config problem. I just downloaded the zip file. Extracted it. Loaded DWS_Neutralizer.cmd into Notepad++. There is nothing wrong with the formatting.

@AmirHossein the thing about batch files is that they can do the most wonderful things at the most unexpected times... But rarely ever do

LOL
@DavidPostill Not an endpoint problem. I just created a repo and uploaded the script file. Now it downloads correctly, with the same size, with same hash. gist reduced my file size (i.e remove new lines)

@AmirHossein Your cmd file has the wrong EOL characters. It has <lf> instead of <cr><lf> as is normal on Windows. That is why the formatting is correct using Notepad++ (which is smart) but not with Notepad (which is dumb).
@Ramhound Apologies. File has wrong eol characters.

12:37 PM
@DavidPostill Exactly! as I mentioned I was able to run the script... but echo was on! Meaning the first line (@echo off) wasn't executed
Why?

@AmirHossein The new zip still contains a file with the wrong EOL markers.

Yes, but works well in notepad
Windows is dumb
