6:00 PM
okay, this is weird

Ugh. Accpac was the bane of my existence for most of June.

eh, that's just macro-recorder code. when I need to actually use their "views" API I use my LINQ provider instead :)

Q: LINQ Provider: Supporting Projections

Mat's MugUp until recently, my LINQ-to-Sage provider didn't support projections, so the client code had to explicitly "transfer" to LINQ-to-Objects, like this: var vendorCodes = context.Vendors.ToList().Select(e => e.Code); Now, with a bit of help from Stack Overflow, I was able to modify my IQueryPr...

I can do this:
var vendors = context.Vendors.Select(e => new { e.Code, e.Name });
and it does I-don't-know-how-many API calls in the background
these CR posts might actually get me into eventual trouble, should my boss decide he wants to package it and sell it
but hey, now it's peer reviewed code
and all he asked me to do was to interface purchase orders from the old system into Sage300. I couldn't believe I had to write all that redundant annoying code, so I made myself a LINQ provider, and now my code looks like it's running off Entity Framework :)

Unfortunately I didn't have access to the API at all (or even the software). I had to reverse engineer it from only the data tables. Talk about needing meaningful identifier names...

I forgot I was fighting the tests :P

@Comintern without the documentation????

Yep.
That's a big part of my job - I do data conversions from proprietary accounting systems into our software.

we paid the "Sage Dev Partner" fee to have access to the docs

6:21 PM
It would have been a lot easier if they would have defined any key constraints...

gosh... I can't imagine writing the query I'm writing right now, without the docs!

I'd be sunk without ApexSQL. I also have a decent repository of schema analysis utilities built up at this point

6:54 PM
I have done it!

done what

Oh well, no open PR's there anyway.

@Hosch250 now he's got his own acronym!

@FreeMan It goes with being predator-in-chief of Rubberduck's bug collection.

do you use a rubber mallet or a rubber chicken to kill the rubberduck bugs?

Neither.
Usually, I don't use anything, but occasionally, I use a rubber duck.

liar! I know you've used a keyboard, at least once!

@Mat'sMug I never told you I don't have any arms, did I?

ah, so your dog does the typing?!

7:41 PM
(Ha, I have both arms--of course I've never told you that.)
Anyway, I was implying I could be using voice recognition, or something.

sorry, @Hosch250, I like @Mat'sMug answer better... :)

nah, there'd be more typos

8:16 PM
This isn't funny, hardcoding a bunch of declarations for the tests.

I'm doing the Untyped Function Usage now.
And then I might as well do the Implicit Active Workbook Reference and have at least one test for them all...

@Duga so 1 test is sufficient?

@Mat'sMug I didn't say it was.
Right now, I'm mostly getting it setup so it is easy to add more tests later.
Once I get the declarations hardcoded, it is easy to add more.

What's the syntax for sorting procedures into groups in the CE?

huh?
you mean folders?

yeah, those!

select the default folder, it shows it in the bottom panel
'@Folder("Parent.Child")

ah. then a "." between levels...
yeah, what you just typed.
ok, I'll play around with that a bit for the next 15 min...
OK, I'm not crazy...
The Find window has the focus, but Esc won't close it.
It happens sometimes, but, apparently, not others.
Aren't those the best kinda bugs?!?!

8:56 PM
@FreeMan You can set a / in the settings instead.

eh?
instead of the @?

No, instead of the .

oh. I can do a dot. I'm good that way... :)
however, this doesn't seem to work:
Private Function GatherData(ByVal SatAddress As String, ByVal ApptAddress As String, ByRef Clinics As ProcessClinic) As Collection
'@Folder("SatisfactionSurvey.CollectData")

Dim CI As ClinicItem
Have I done it correctly? "SatisfactionSurvey" is my project name.

Of course it doesn't.

I've clicked the parse button on the tool bar, and the refresh...

8:59 PM
You need to stick in the declarations section of the module, up with Option Explicit.
What do you think it is going to do inside a function like that?

Oh......
I wasn't sure how, exactly the folders worked, so I was playing around with 'em.
This allows modules to be sorted into folders, not procedures. I see...
okey dokey.
I'm not certain I see the value of it then, code is already organized into modules. which appear at a high level.

What would be the value of sorting procedures into folders?
You sort your procedures into modules, and your modules into folders.
You aren't supposed to have all your modules in the root folder.

until I see it in action, I guess I'm unconvinced of the full usefulness of it. Maybe my project just isn't big enough or I've not subdivided into enough modules.

@Mat'sMug Come convert this heretic please.

whats up?

Freeman doesn't think our folders are useful.

hey, I learned to program before you were born, you young whipper snapper! I've managed to bumble along so far, but I do realize I'm behind the times

it's 5pm. it's Friday, and I'm ready to go home. I'd be more than happy to pick this up on Monday and do me some learnin'. I might even swing by over the weekend...

I don't have time to give it a try today, but I've added @ckuhn203 @Vogel612 and @retailcoder as contributors to the private repo I setup for debugging this issue; if one of you has time to try things out, please by all means go ahead. Otherwise I should have some time early next week.

@Mat'sMug Hmmm, I had never used the priority buttons before... Looking at the API, there is no way to change the order of References in VbProject.References. The only thing I can think of is to remove references and add them back in the desired order. I'm not really liking that idea.
