choosealicense.com allows to to select a licence and then tells you how to apply it.
For the MIT licence it says: Create a text file (typically named LICENSE or LICENSE.txt) in the root of your source code and copy the text of the license into the file. Replace [year] with the current year and [fullname] with the name (or names) of the copyright holders.
It doesn't mention the name of the software. But the licence is part of the software distribution so you can put a copy in the zip file or whatever.
@BenN That would be for the website copyright notice not for each piece of software though, right?
I still haven't decided on a license for the things I've put online, so I guess they're "all rights reserved, except for the ones I gave y'all by putting this on GitHub"

Opting out of open source licenses doesn’t mean you’re opting out of copyright law.
You’ll have to check with your own legal counsel regarding your particular project, but generally speaking, the absence of a license means that default copyright laws apply. This means that you retain all rights to your source code and that nobody else may reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from your work.
You don’t have to do anything to not offer a license, though including a copyright notice is recommended.
Well, what I'm really after is "you can use this software for any purpose, distribute it as long as my name is on it, but may not release a modified version without making it clear which parts are not mine"

The least restrictive are at the bottom and what you describe isn't the last one so it must be MIT.
as the author of the IP you could define the terms of use you allow for that IP yourself. I dont code , but i sure wouldnt give carte blange to commertial or sold products, or allow the use of it in viruses and ransomware :-) All of which people could exploit your code, and leave your name on it :-)
