1:02 PM
Morning, Matt.

Good morning

Anyone working on the 34x4-44x6/528-24x11 = 101 equations ?

I tried a few things but gave up

KoA
Thanks @Khale_Kitha :D

I originally thought it was dimensions (like the picture frames answer) but the equations with multiple 'dimensions' put that out of my head.

1:14 PM
What I have so far :
the / symbol is important (it is not just a ÷ , see edit )
the thing that is not working is important
he says he had to " write everything down" so maybe he could not use power
OP said x is not a variable but did not say it is a *
There is no 7 in the equation

@question_asker This, unfortunately
Bah, I can't just easily link to it without notifying you, q_a. Sorry

@Khale_Kitha huh what
I didn't see what you removed

I was just trying to respond to that line of text, but it put a notify in there, automatically.
Just another attempt to respond, but it was worse. lol
I was basically trying to do a long-range ^
lol
Posted my first bounty ever, a bit ago :P (Though I kept it small, for now, since I really don't think it requires much effort to solve the last bit of this puzzle.)
I don't like seeing this in my notifications panel, though:
−45 The Catacombs of Cryptos, The Final Path
lol

oh ahaha
yeah the - always bothers me

It's just...big....and.red.....and negative...and bad! :P
Like: "You posted a bounty! Shame on you..."

1:23 PM
haha

I keep looking at that Cryptobiology one thinking: "Oh right, I wanted to know what the answer to this was." Click "Oh right...it's over my head. I'll just keep waiting."
Btw, on that puzzle "They are all under 4"
If you convert from base-4 to base 10 (which was my guess, before the hints), the number is:
3130313130312033848686
In case it helps anyone

I didn't understand the first cryptobiology, so when a second one was posted I didn't even bother

I didn't realize there were two, tbh.
My eyes have been hurting, this week, so I haven't been on much.

There was the original one, then someone posted a second one that used the logic he tried to solve the first one with

ahh
(And off to the eye doctor..)

1:28 PM
good luck!

My eyes will get progressively worse throughout the week if I don't get enough sleep, due to the fact that I spend a good majority of my waking hours in front of a screen

I find it's important to take breaks where I take off my glasses and let my eyes unfocus

Yeah, I know that's part of my problem, Gordon
But I had red splotches on my eyes, yesterday

Yeah I think there is a 20-20-20 rule where every 20 minutes you look at something 20ft away for 20 seconds, but I don't really follow that

My eyes usually gets red at the start of summer.

1:34 PM
I get redness on the sides of my eyes/headaches often from too much screen time/ allergies, so it may be nothing, but getting it checked out couldn't hurt
IMO

ooh, I like that
along the lines of the job description puzzle

Do you think using the Knowledge tag when a more specific knowledge tag applies to your question, but you don't want to give it away, is appropriate?

sure
in fact, I think that's a good way of being accurate while not giving too much away

1:50 PM
New riddle inc. in a bit, I can't imagine it will stay unsolved for long though

2:32 PM
"explain these equations" puzzle - bowling

post it

oh my god
that's it
nice work
(I'm not doing the math but it works as far as the notation goes)
the two that end in x11 have 11 frames, since the 10th frame is a strike

Oh thank you :D I can sleep in peace now

I did the math on the middle one, I'm sure it works out for the other two also

the first one checks out, and the third one is the same as the first but the spare starts with a 9 instead of a 6, giving the same end result
god damn, hahaha, that's amazing. I love this puzzle now.

2:43 PM
It is amazing

this makes the whole "hmm maybe OP didn't give us all the information" crybabytude all the funnier
OP: they have all the information they need
SEVERAL ANSWERERS: maybe they were missing information

That is a great puzzle
Shameless self promotion: puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/32546/… have fun

funny story: I already had that open in a tab

I did as well
as soon as you said that you'd be posting a riddle, I had the puzzle list page open and was waiting for it

I had a meeting so it took me a bit to post it haha
After writing the 4th line, this was all I could think about: youtube.com/watch?v=RcP91tQ4ZSM

2:56 PM
noooooooo

yeeeesssss

gordon has neither style nor grace
3

I am hung up on "die a lot"

man, gordon... I don't even know where to start on your riddles

3:01 PM
the knowledge tag ... makes me think there's another tag you could add that would narrow it down a lot

he might have mentioned that upthread...

so he did
I read things ... sometimes

oh wait

I don't have any planned hints since I don't think it will get to that point, but who knows

I don't understand why people post possible answers as comments

3:06 PM
snake crew... wreck... sean
@Matt haha I was complaining about that the other day

Yeah, its like I'm just going to respond to that
unless i can think of something witty.....

There's one person here (who has accused me of obsessing over them for pointing out that they do this) who answers in comments to shame the OP for making an "easy" puzzle
("here" as in "on Puzzling", not "in the chat")

great response, Gordon

Thanks for the second message..Otherwise I would have thought that it was me.. @question_asker

if you want to shame OP, that's what downvotes are for

3:08 PM
it is not you, but you probably know who I'm referring to

I don't, actually

that user had a meltdown in the chat a while back, being mad at us
@Matt oh I was addressing @manshu there

about content ownership?

oh no, this was months ago

then I very much don't remember

3:10 PM
oh...him

they have a tendency to insult users in comments
and then accuse anyone who takes issue with that of obsessing over them lmao

I think it is on the day Feb 19.

wow how ever did you know
haha
good memory, manshu

Q: Should we flag a riddle as *too broad* without looking at the hints

manshuLet's start from the start. I think that there are two types of hard riddles. One: whose answer is very hard to guess. These riddles are interesting (in my opinion) and always leaves us something to learn. Two (broad): there are too many possible answers for this kind of riddle and the only hard...

This took place on the same day
I don't keep the memories...I keep the links.

3:12 PM
:D

manshu has no brain - just a database.
7

That's right
@Khale_Kitha Sherlock Holmes - Season 3- Episode 3

I'd say that's such a mean thing to say about manshu, if he didn't just agree with it.

I don't really take anything seriously here until I am learning.

Yeah, I waited a moment before adding an addendum, q_a
lol

3:15 PM
hahaha

scrolls up
LoL, bowling - yeah, wouldn't have considered that.
"had a meltdown in the chat" "they have a tendency to insult users in comments"
I haven't looked into what user this is, but...wasn't he deleting his acct?
Or is it someone else?

no no, different person

ehh...no new puzzle. And I am too lazy to post one. Now I wish Earth hit the Mars so that there is something interesting I can see.

ah, okay

Not even Prison Break is able to excite me. :(

3:18 PM
the user I'm talking about posted an infamous puzzle about a certain seasonal gift-giver and his animals

Man, I ignored that question since I thought it was going to be too mathy, turns out I could of solved it. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@question_asker That question is still unsolved.

nope
our friend @feelinferrety solved it

LoL @ the infamous broken-armed-shrug

like... months later
almost exactly two months later, hahaha

3:20 PM
Well done @feel

......
looks at the first 3 stars, on the right We're not being nice, today. LoL

I like how the top two starred comments out of context just seem like insults

hahaha

manshu has no brain, gordon has no style

haha

3:20 PM
sheesh!

I am ok with my one.

LoL, I was saying the same thing, gordon! =D

Mine was a reference to the dk rap so i'm also okay with it haha

And Khale is a complete nutter who finds amusement in the smallest things.
5
waits
There we go

had to join the bandwagon

3:22 PM
hehe

yo damn

And I thought we can't star true things :p

that comment about @manshu got an upvote (on the senor santa claus question)

eyy the logo in HNQ finally updated!!

3:23 PM
lol, been working for me =D

@question_asker I don't really care.
He/She had a valid point.

@manshu You don't know that answer, so stop acting like you do. I know you directed what moronic post at me, but how many times do I need to say it "You can solve the puzzle without the hints"! Just because this hasn't been answer, and most answers aren't very serious doesn't change the correct answered. In fact I have to agree with question_asker on this. You need to stop making something out of nothing. — Daedric Feb 21 at 10:24
smh

lol, I remember that.
Does this comment still exist?

(that might be the one time he ever claimed to agree with me)

flags

3:25 PM
I can tell he is angry about something, but it's hard to tell what...

his next one was rude as hell too
he's mad about people he perceives to be stupid

Well there's 2 flags used, for the day.
Kinda like the other guy, the other day, who decided we were all too stupid to solve his puzzle, so he wanted to take his toys and leave.

hahaha
man

Insofar as to use a new acct to post spam to his own puzzle, so he could close it.

what a mess

3:26 PM
Well that's a sad life to live, since there are a lot of stupid people out there, and even more if your ego is out of control

resumes Prison Break

prison break?

I hope you escape from prison manshu

prepare yourself ..

the show?

3:27 PM
the activity

I stopped watching after the end of the first season, because I got a little bored.
I mean what's the premise of prison break after...well.....you'll see.

it got pretty ridiculous for me

I think you just spoiled it for me
wah waaaaah

lol
The...uh....end of that sentence was: "he ate all of the fig newtons?"

there was a series finale movie ... and I turned it off after 5 minutes
after all that show dragged me through

3:28 PM
this question needs to accept an answer soon so people will stop answering it... puzzling.stackexchange.com/questions/32507/…

But it can't.
Because if you have one, you have none.
And it's one vote away from being put on-hold, though I didn't bother to click to see why.

Like 90% of the answers are correct, so its probably way too broad

see
I think 90% of the answers are shoehorned

another possible answer: an extra 'n'

they don't really fit, the posters just claim they do
the top two are decent

3:30 PM
three is three with an extra (leftover n)
two is two

but the rest of them, thumbs down emoji

and one becomes none
ezpz

I dunno, I like several of them hehe
Especially the one by bremsstrahlung
If you have one option, you really have none =D

but that's the top one, too

I mean, most of them are logically sound even if they are a tiny bit of a stretch to be the intended answer

3:31 PM
ah, true
...wow
What is the new rep required to edit a wiki answer now???
Review queue has a 47 trying to edit - it used to be 10.

but the bottom few are pretty stretchy though i'll admit

hey if anybody wants to do a bunch of reviews on meta, somebody did tag wikis
I was on meta and the number in the orange box was 47

I don't have access to anything there, anymore <>
><

oh weird

close/open/edits only
which is, to say, far more than I have here, still, now

3:33 PM
yeah I don't know what reps are required for anything anymore, just taht I need 16900 rep to get back to where I was

I can review first posts and late answers, which is almost perpetually empty. I haven't even gotten the bronze review badge yet

tons of votes right now, on this site
3 close, 2 reopen, and 2 low quality

like, what I need is more than twice what I have

I have 3001 rep...So I can do close votes.
1 downvote and I can't do these things.

I finally got to edit things without the queue but alas, another 500 rep for me now

3:34 PM
goes to downvote one of manshu's answers

Reopen votes REALLY REALLY REALLY need to start saying the close reason. Tired of guessing.

(I'M JOKING MANSHU I PROMISE I WOULDN'T DO THAT TO YOU)

99% of my edits are putting stuff in spoilers which is basically impossible without edit rights so I just have to hope someone sees it before it ruins it for too many people

... but I would

(I know you can view the other tab to see it, but still)

3:34 PM
@question_asker I know :)

I agree KK

@Matt You have that freeedom.

So I can now verify..
That if you vote to close something, you can still vote to re-open it, at least.
If this re-opens, I'll try to remember to check and see if I'm able to VTC.

Now I have 3002 rep.
YAY

how did you get 1 rep?

3:36 PM
That's what I call rep. farming.

2 down, 1 up on a question?

@GordonAllocman An answer I downvoted just got deleted.

Ironic.
Probably one that I just reviewed :P

wouldn't that give you back your 2 rep?

yw
An answer is only -1 rep to vote it down

3:37 PM
Wow, for some reason I always though it was -2

Downvoting a question gives the OP -2 - perhaps you're remembering that.

hmm, I never downvote answers so I guess I wouldn't really know. Mostly I thought it was -2, which is the equivalent of voiding the effort put towards editing a question (mostly on SO)

Sigh....I really shouldn't do that...
"Wow, what happened here. Do you need any help?" — Khale_Kitha 19 secs ago

wow, I almost instantly got lost reading that puzzle

And I found one rhyme in the entirety of the thing.
possibly unintentional

3:43 PM
@Khale_Kitha that is best answer for sure

hahaha
The answer to your puzzle
....seems to be The Atmosphere.
But I couldn't match it to some of the clues.

my puzzle?

yeah

ooh I like that store puzzle

I think I do too - once I can figure out what he's wanting.

3:45 PM
the comments are the best part

@Khale_Kitha yeah it's a total mystery to me, but I feel like it has a satisfying answer
maybe I'm wrong, and it's plastic bag

@Khale_Kitha post that as an answer, i'm interested in seeing how you got that

Yeah, same
I'm not convinced it matches enough to post it, tbh.

Gordon's puzzle on the other hand... good puzzle, but I have zero idea where to go with it.

3:46 PM
ah alright

It was mostly matching on..
spherical friend, save the world from E.T.s, an agent in darkness.
grew up in gloom (but not break backs)

I see how you got that, that's a pretty cool interpretation of the clues

Remembers to upvote

hehe doors can't talk

f''
3:49 PM
@Khale_Kitha you can't vote to close something twice

Yeah, that's how it's supposed to work. There was just question as to if it was actually functioning, recently.

I was talking about my comment on the store question, it made me chuckle again

Oh, lol
And I was going to say:
Don't be ridiculous. Haven't you ever seen A Muppet Christmas Carol - or played Fable? :P
Yeah, I've got nothing, for your puzzle - will look again, later.

Q: Find my number please?

Secret_SquirrelThis is my first question on here so if it is not correct then please comment. my number has five the one before me has eight which my next has nine i am made of two but my cousin made of ten over a lap of home What is my number? Hint #1 Hint #2 I may have made this abit ambiguous so...

lol, was just looking at that

f''
3:53 PM
the last hint strongly suggests 19/20/21 (K/Ca/Sc, also 21 dots on a die) but I don't see how that has anything to do with the original verses

I like your answer @MAtt

I'm not sure I do anymore, KK

Incorrect or correct, I like the answer

I have no idea how to reconcile the second stanza at all

need to look up uinal
the bar uses music notes - dice, as f" mentioned...hmm

3:55 PM
I looked up uinal, its a pretty obscure word, but basically means 20, or 18 since there are 18 uinals on the calendar

Plus there are two possible answers
it's a 20-day period - okay
a Mayan month
so uinal of the mayan could be a month
of which the mayan calendar has 18 and we have 12

"uinal" looks like "urinal" to me, please like and subscribe

same here.
pronounced wee nal, though
which doesn't help its case, come to think of it..

Where is 19 from, @f"?
oh, I see what you're doing, nm
And I guess the answer to Jon's meta comment is: yes
Fortnight questions died again

I wonder if I should just make a next post about it...
hahaha
