@MDMarra That should be a valid close reason. Also who flagged this? c'mon - show yourself.

@voretaq7 In most cases I would think that is technically offensive; even if only to the OP. (I didn't flag it though.)

@voretaq7 I flagged it as offensive, if you can't use something and make mistakes with it than why how are you supposed to learn from it ?
@voretaq7 *remove the why, also if I flagged it wrong just tell me, I'm open to criticism :)

Q: When running virtual machines, is VT-x support or higher clock speed better?

aj.eslerI'm looking at building a new desktop workstation. I will be using VMWare Workstation to run virtual machines, probably only one or two at a time. I am currently deciding on CPU and the options I am considering either the i7 2600 or the i7 2600K. The 2600 supports VT-x and VT-d instructions but i...

Q: Write to shared Window's folder on Mac

Chuck SavageI'm new to Mac's. I read this excellent tutorial on setting up File Sharing between mac's and vista pc's: http://tech.ifelix.net/3022.html I've mounted the drive I wanted to share on the mac, and alias'd the folder that has full control to the mac's desktop - but the mac says I only have read...

@Lucas maybe spend a little time in chat before you flag things :)
I realize you're trying to bump your flag weight for the mod elections but chat flags don't increase flag weight.
P.S. this site is for professionals. That user was asking for a home setup (and a ridiculous one at that). It was off-topic anyway.

Send to SO, since it sounds like he's debugging his own code that hits a client's LDAP:

Q: Authenticating Nested Groups in LDAP

TimI don't know much about LDAP so I apologise in advance. I am looking at a bug in an application that does some authentication using LDAP. The LDAP directory structure set up by the client contains nested groups and looks like the following: UAT Group DEV Group portfolio_mangers ...

@LucasKauffman @John It's definitely "technically offensive" - I just tend to have a rather low sensitivity to offense from snark (part of the sysadmin territory) and a high sensitivity to flags (because of The Day That Shall Live In (chat)Infamy). I also don't want us to head down the road of The Bridge (I swear to $_DEITY if I see one more flagged-because-I'm-moody message from there I will and take away all their dice!)

@voretaq7 trouble at mill - you're early/late ?

@Iain was checking email before heading to bed. I made a TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, DISASTROUS MISTAKE and installed BioShock again, so my sleep schedule is gonna be hosed now :-/
(also I expect my neighbors may call the cops on me if I don't start turning down the speakers - the Little Sisters screaming "No! No! NO NO!" at 2 AM probably doesn't sound good…)

no, no, not bioshock too openTTD is bad enough

no... that still sucks as bad as it did 2 years ago.
I refuse to download it and find out otherwise or I'll use all my sick time...
and now: Bed. (and sedatives to make sure I stay there and don't play BioShock until 4:30 again)

@MDMarra You are right, I think I'm going to withdraw and just spend some more time here. Maybe next year :).

@voretaq7 As a regular in The Bridge, I'm curious; what road did we go down that you are afraid to traverse? I fear you may have misconceptions if you think we flag because we get moody...

5:32 PM
@John May not be "moodyness", but anecdotally most of the flags I see come from The Bridge (and by the standards in The Comms Room most of them are tame or "WTF why flag it instead of discuss it?") Then again it could just be MY moodyness at having to look at a transcript to try and figure out context/offensiveness :-P

Q: Ubuntu: How to change Dovecot / Postfix POP3 default port to 110?

Chim KanI was trying to log in to my email from Gmail POP3 feature and I had to try every single port to connect to my mail server. What's the command on terminal or what file I have to change the Dovecot/Postfix default port to 110 instead of 995? Can I change the port to be some other number?

@voretaq7 I'm honestly amused that you think we flag anything and everything in The Bridge considering stuff like this tends to get starred. Then again, people might be flagging tamer stuff when I'm not around.

Does it really matter, FFS? Christ, everyone getting their damn knickers in a bunch... Maybe if people stopped poking each other from their side of the damn car, we wouldn't have to keep turning the fucking car around.

Q: Run anacron even when on battery (laptop)

ECIIThere is a known behavior of anacron not to run when the laptop is running on batteries. Is there any way to stop this behavior and run anacron whatever the power state? http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=152402 http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-bugs-dist@lists.debian.org/msg5609...

Q: I saw a package a while ago that would list installed packages & configuration files

sjhIt was linked from news.ycombinator.com Listing installed packages is easy of course, but IIRC it would inspect repositories and then look for changes made in /etc/ to generate a diff / report, the website was blue, my google-fu is failing me on this one! anyone know what it was called, or some...
