12:00 AM
I have another question, why is the general throughput for donwloading small files less than the throughput for downloading larger files?

Because they're smaller files?

imagine teach server node like a train station, the packets are the trains, not only your trains go through a server
small fiels less trains
bad analogy but well i guess it explains it

The smaller the file is, the less stuff is transferred (?)
Because there's less to transfer
Fewer bits
Fewer packets
Less info ^

for what do you get -1 rep ? o_o

downvoting an answer

12:03 AM
especially it does not show
ah ok

?
oh

nvm

kk

Smaller packets but why does that mean the throughput should be less? why not just send the data in larger packets to get the job done quicker?

Not smaller packets, fewer
All packets (I think) are the same size
A larger file will have to transfer more

12:04 AM
oh yeah ofc sorry I said that wrong, why is the download less though

since it has more information to transfer
For which?

the throughput is less for smaller files because bigger files packets build a steady stream and mostly get priority
packets are always the same size they are defined by the protocol using to transfer them

@Zacharee1 Why do I still have this 100 pencent

cat sprouting tomato plant:

@HenryWhiteHatHacker what?

12:06 AM
But for example I'm downloading a 200mb file, it averages at 40MB/s, I download a 100kb file and it averages at 0.700 mb/s why is this ?

@TheXed k then
@HenryWhiteHatHacker did you enter a username?

watch the video and you will see @Zacharee1

I did
I saw a cat in a few frames
I guess that's what you meant

Did you see the cats sprout?

12:07 AM
sure

lol...where is your sense of humor?

I'm still not feeling very well after what happened before

Oh?

@SmallLegend Is that your internet speed?

12:09 AM
@HenryWhiteHatHacker yeah?

@Zacharee1 sad i started that conversation :(

@SmallLegend Good I have a 30MB/s

@Videonauth meh, not you. I still don't understand the hostility (is it?) though
@HenryWhiteHatHacker megabytes?

@Zacharee1 Yes

whoa...

12:11 AM
not bits bytes

And I thought I was doing well with 4...

@Zacharee1 No. Basically, an application can send as large a packet as possible, but it gets broken down in to MTU (maximum transmittable unit) sized frame. If a hop in the middle has a smaller limit, it can be fragmented and reassembled. Packet size is somewhat arbitrary, but you'ld usually want to send as big a packet as possible (the max size) for all but the last packet.

15MB/s vs 30MB/s

im idling around 20 MB/s actually i could get better connection but why spend 30 euro more per month makes no sense to me an average movie with 8 GiB needs about 3 minutes to download

@hbdgaf good to know
@Videonauth what are you paying now?

12:12 AM
enough time to go fetch some drinks and snacks
cable internet

?
How much are you paying (rephrase)?

I am going to a 10 gigabit internet speed!

Wieviel Zahlst du? @Videonauth

actually im on one provider (unitymedia) including mobile flatrate and 2 GB data volume, hd cable tv and 3 phonelines including 150 mbps internet flat

Is that right?

12:14 AM
i pay around 60 euros

a month?

yep
erm 150 Mbit

So, $67.80/mo for Cable TV, 3 phone lines, 150Mb/s internet and 2GB cloud storage?
We're getting ripped off in the US...

no 2 GB data transfer volume for mobile phone

12:15 AM
oh
still
The closest comparison for that I can find on my ISP is $134/mo
o_O

wow now im baffled

I think I pay about $85...
But that includes my tv...

if i would invest around 150 euros more per month i could upgrade to 1 Gbit glasswire internet

o_O

but for what, im really not using so much

12:19 AM
Host web servers
All of them

my cable internet is aswell glasswire based

That's 128MB/s!

@Zacharee1 Sad my isp is $293.47 for a 45Mbps Download

division errors
@HenryWhiteHatHacker wow

jus t would take ma call to my isp to upgrade but well im an early retiree

12:20 AM
Australia is really bad then

Isn't glasswire a software?

an paying such amound from pensioin funds isnt possible

@HenryWhiteHatHacker is that per month, though?

glassfiber

@Zacharee1 Yes

12:21 AM
(o)_(O)

sorry bad translation

(o)_(O) is much better than o_O
That's how I'm going to do it now

isn't glassfiber the same as fiberoptic?

yes

yeah
around 75% of germans internet is running already on that

12:22 AM
okay just making sure I was thinking thinking the same thing you where talking about

Time to move to Germany

Fast internet, a fun language
and no drinking age :p

erm there y<oure wrong
we have a drinking age
16 for low percentage stuff like beer and 18 for hard stuff

My sister and mother went on a trip to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands

12:24 AM
I have the fastest internet they offer in my area 50/5...

I know there's a drinking age, but they say no one seems to know what it is

I want 100...
but they don't offer it here...

@TheXed I have 15 at my mom's and 35 at my dad's. 2 and 5 up repsectively
Still want that 100? :p

which is crazy because at work (5 miles away) same ISP and I have 100/50 there...
Granted we pay 400 dollars for it at work.

Business plan

12:26 AM
same infrastructure...
same backbone...

To be fair though, I have friends who live just outside of the town where I live. They just got DSL 3 or 4 years ago.
had dialup until then

no reason I can't get 100Mb connection...

We had DSL and cable available
Less than 5 miles
@TheXed unless the situation is like I described

I am hosting my own isp so I can get any speed I want.

Nope...the backbone runs right through the center of town...
they are just evil like that...

12:27 AM
hmm
@HenryWhiteHatHacker If you're your own ISP, why are you paying yourself $230/mo?

@Zacharee1 Because I am hosting my own isp to make money to pay my isp.

wait what?

You are an ISP?
how?

@Zacharee1 annoying vague response

12:31 AM
Christ

@Seth Annoying vague question?

lol

@RPiAwesomeness annoying vague click the reply

@Zacharee1 ik ;)

:p

12:31 AM
I was extending the joke

@Zacharee1 I can't figure out the context here, too much German in between.

Ignore the German

@RPiAwesomeness infuriating link as answer

lol
Seriously, Windows Update is literally the computer version of cancer

12:33 AM
@RPiAwesomeness annoying vague lol
@RPiAwesomeness At least cancer can be cured

@Seth Disturbing, yet beautiful
@Videonauth but we're not Debian

so ubuntu is based on what ?

Debian, but we're not Debian
We're superior
he says condescendingly

12:38 AM
if Ubuntu == Debian:
    print "Ubuntu == Debian"

Ubuntu > Debian
:p

still linux rules

I will rule Ubuntu and Ask Ubuntu

youcan even build your own from scratch

yep
Well, mostly
You still need the Linux kernel ;p
Otherwise, what makes it Linux?

and another happy visitor of AU :) askubuntu.com/questions/763475/…
yeah only thing is linuxfrom scratc explains building alinux using an already made host system to get going
well the kernel you need as always but if you wouldnt have a host system you would have to inject all those files on ASM base

@Seth how's the context going, or did you give up?

Wow, Ubuntu phone now available in US

It is?

You can turn a Andriod Phone into a Ubuntu Phone

12:47 AM
Not all

well as long you can find drivers for your hardware that is
@Zacharee1 i guess @Seth has died while reading ....

Seems so
He does that a lot

@HenryWhiteHatHacker do you by chance own Mediacom, because if you do I have a few things I would like to say to you...

Wrong country

Crap...

12:54 AM
@TheXed I do not own Mediacom.
I own a private ISP.

@Zacharee1 Geez. Don't do that. They're both good for different things.

@hbdgaf les jokez
@onebree wat

Who knew Grammatech was hiring? My brain is nowhere near strong enough to do that kind of work full time. I'ld burn out in days.

Anonymous
@Zacharee1 I got really tired around 6:30 and took an in-and-out nap for a couple hours.

And what is the name of your Private ISP company?

@onebree oh

binary rewriting --(O)_(o)--

12:57 AM
@Zacharee1 Now I am eating weird hummus with weird chips. Yummy

@hbdgaf that would a b god job for inmates, that surely would burn their brain away

@onebree I read humans
@onebree but sounds great

They produce products for source analysis. Binary rewriting and wanting a candidate that can write SMT solvers tells me they're doing private work on closed source binary analysis using the same original tools.

I am not a cannibal

Are you sure

1:01 AM
@onebree Hummus with pita bread or baby carrots is good. I have a soft spot for black bean hummus.

@RPiAwesomeness I can imagine

god why oh why did they take away to give title to terminals :-/

@Videonauth and @Serg gave me this similar function the other day:
set_title()
{
printf "\x1B\x5D\x30; %s \x07" "$@"
}

What does systemd do?

At its heart, systemd is an init system.
In Unix-based computer operating systems, init (short for initialization) is the first process started during booting of the computer system. Init is a daemon process that continues running until the system is shut down. It is the direct or indirect ancestor of all other processes and automatically adopts all orphaned processes. Init is started by the kernel using a hard-coded filename; a kernel panic will occur if the kernel is unable to start it. Init is typically assigned process identifier 1. In Unix systems such as System III and System V, the design of init has diverged from the functionality...
but instead of making a great init system the developers decided they would replace the vast majority of the important system programs all in one..

so ubuntu uses it not
or ?
if i get that right and pid 1 is the first process started after boot

yes. debian switched to systemd and ubuntu followed
since it's based on debian

i wonder why oh why they always reinvent the wheel
