@MAFIA36790 I don't like CW either.
Hullo @David! Welcome to the Table!

@IͶΔ hi!

How're you doing?

user116211
Do anyone know of Mills-Nixon Effect?

user116211
Damn, there is no wiki article on it.

user116211
@IͶΔ Let me join Mart's side.

2:07 PM
OK.
Bring some people with yourself too.
I have other reasons to detest CW.

user116211
@IͶΔ Rep?

Bah, I'm not that pathetic.

2:23 PM
I'm starting to write some meta.

2:35 PM

Dammit, I'm too sleepy to write meta.

@Ramanewbie Thanks for that! :)

@Freddy That's our bot (or, one of them, anyway).

2:39 PM
@pentavalentcarbon stuff have changed in month or so...looks good
but now I will be here everyday. done with school :-D

@Ramanewbie Are you there by any chance ?

user116211
@IͶΔ Just write! You don't need to have a exorcism on you to invoke the inner writer in you?

user116211
@Hippalectryon: o/

user116211
Where is @Chemobot?

@MAFIA36790 There's a reason my last post on the main sites I'm active on was from some 15 days ago.

Is Mills-Nixon effect real?

user116211
I'm seeing there is one such post at the researchgate....

user116211
Where is @Chemobot?

@MAFIA36790 I am for now.

@MAFIA36790 I'm having some issues with Cloud9 because my connection is very poor atm

@Loong That was said by me as Chemobot

user116211
There must be a wiki article on it ;/

3:23 PM
@Ramanewbie I know. I was just surprised that it did not find the paper.

@Loong Oh, then you should ask hippa, he made Chemobot, I'm only redistributing it.

@Ramanewbie You're using an old version though :(

@hippa Did you put a newest version online since ?

no. My main "unofficial" mail host decided to lock me out of my account forever, do I'm kind of busy changing all my accounts everywhere to my new email

user116211
@Loong How do you people read those journals?

user116211
3:26 PM
I can't even download them ;/

user116211
They want some ACS ID (what's this), code, my university (I've not been admitted till now) and etcetera etcetera....

@Hippalectryon You're talking about github ? (were you talking to me ?)

@MAFIA36790 Depends if you wanna stay legal. If not, there's plenty of ways.
@Ramanewbie yes

@Hippalectryon ;-)

user116211
@Hippalectryon Can you say any one from that plenty of ways?

how many states of matter are there? i thought 4 but my sir told 5 can anyone tell me about 5 , the states which i know is solid, liquid, gas , plasma....

Bose-Einstein condensates

thank you

user116211

Q: Why does matter exist in 3 states (liquids, solid, gas)?

Kiran KumarWhy does matter on the earth exist in three states? Why cannot all matter exist in only one state (i.e. solid/liquid/gas)?

user116211
@ramsay: related ^^^

4:25 PM
@bot_cultists, I changed the bot's host, I have no idea how long it will stay up.

if i have sodium.....
will each sodium element be bonded to 8 other sodium atom?

5:34 PM
@ramsay each sodium atom has 8 nearest neighbours; however, that does not necessarily indicate the chemical bonds.

user116211
@ramsay Perhaps you are over-speculating things with the crude Drude model, I suppose?

A: Let's decide on what we should close as homework

BrianThe Problem As I See It I would argue that the underlying reason for the dynamics on the site leading to this question, as well as more than one other recent meta question (here and here too), is: The scope of the Chemistry.SE site is improperly defined. In some cases, the scope may be ill...

7:36 PM
Hello folks
I was wondering if there was a nice reference on the topic of making basic chemical precursors from natural ingredients
Just from your basic plants and minerals and whatnot
I thought Henley's Formulas might contain such things but basically you have to buy quite a bunch of chemicals from the shop

@Slereah No idea, I'm afraid.

Things like making lye from ashes and such

8:23 PM
Looks like Physics.SE is undergoing much the same re-evaluation as we are:
4
Q: Replacing the homework policy 1: what existing questions should be on/off topic?

David Z TL;DR: post examples of current questions which are edge cases for the new policy, look through the list, and vote answers up if you think they should be on topic or down if you think they should be off topic. When we last left the ongoing examination of our homework policy, the community ha...

Yep

@Brian As much as I'd like to help with this, I'm probably not the person you want to ping about this. Can we find people who are out there actively answering questions to ask their opinion?

I think the best approach will likely involve a series of d meta posts, perhaps with the first soliciting feedback from the community on examples of problematic Q's with explanations of why they're problematic.
But mods' perspectives (likely mostly @Mart since he's been so closely engaged with this) will be crucial, to ensure a good fit with the overall site-network philosophy

I agree, and I like that very much. It just seems like the people who are discussing the policies aren't necessarily the ones "in the trenches" doing the sometimes dirty work of answering the questions.
So as you state there needs to be input from both sides.

8:38 PM
<nod>. We need to get the answerers over to Meta.Chem.SE somehow. Not sure what the best way is.
Featured post is probably the network-approved way.
Spam blast would be more attention-grabbing, but potentially also more off-putting.

@Brian This seems to be the biggest obstacle.
@Brian What would that even entail?

@pentavalentcarbon No idea. @Mart? It probably requires powers above mod level.
@pentavalentcarbon I would like to think that a focused campaign of feedback-solicitation would help. The meta Q's that've been posted over the last few months are loosely-scoped enough that it's really hard to provide definitive opinions.

@Brian Yes, and variations of the same thing keep reappearing. Because focusing can be difficult.

e.g., I would start to write an answer, but then I'd think of a counter-example and I'd lose my momentum.
It seems like either we'd have to develop a large number of very narrowly scoped policy questions,
(meta questions, for people to opine on)
Or lay out some carefully worded, broad governing principles ("When in doubt, leave questions open." Or, "Close aggressively!") and just accept that the details will be messy.
Either way, the VTC reasons absolutely need freshening.
But without some decisions on underlying goals/policies, there's no framework atop which we can write those VTCRs.

Who has the power to VTC?

8:44 PM
Privilege at 2k, i think. Maybe 3k
Ah. It's 3k.

Hmmm, I'd better answer some more questions then...

Stop yer chattin' and get out there! ;-)

I have one I've been sitting on for months that I know I can answer, but it's so hard...:(

@Ramanewbie slight update to the github.

I'm going see...

And you're going bad grammar ._.

9:22 PM
Yes.
What is it about ? (the update)

asking for email & password directly through the console, with hidden fields
Also a minor update somewhere else I forgot

I wanted to ask, what's master key ?

My private key used to upload images using the imgur API

How come it changes all the time ?

It doesn't
Oh, you mean the "fkey" ?
It's the key used by StackExchange to know who you are in the chat

9:26 PM
yes, 'master fkey'
