Q: N-Bonnaci sequence calculator

Jacky XieThe code calculates a n-bonnaci sequence to a certain number, based on the user's input. It then can print it to a file and/or print it to the console. The calculateSequence function calculates the sequence. The first loop fills the sequence with ones (0, 1, 1, 2...). Next, it calculates the val...

Q: Selection sort algorithm for a 2d char array in C

DanetI am trying to make a selection sort algorithm for a 2d array in C (as the title says), the code compiles but unfortunately it does not sort anything. is there anything I can change that will make it work? or do I have to start over all together? void sortStrings(char strings[5][32]) { int...

1:25 AM
@Matt Nope, I used continue.
@JeroenVannevel I've always supported the dark side. I would definitely turn to the dark side if the light side didn't let me love my doggie.
I'd be a dark side reformer.

well you used to contribute on PPCG, so...

I just gave a 500 rep bounty over there.

Have your earlier code samples changed or can I still refer to those

@Matt Doesn't work like that.
2 hours ago, by Hosch250
Wow. Continue breaks out of the foreach, Return acts as a normal Continue, and Break does I-don't-know-what.

it's kinda

1:27 AM
@Matt Here, I'll make a gist.
That does work. You can try it if you want.

@Hosch250 Just did and yes it appears to work...... Must have to do with the ForEach pipeline......
I know there is logical reason for this.

apparently ForEach is a cmdlet, whatever that means

1:42 AM
@Quill I would just think of them as built-in PowerShell commands. Most of them are built with C#

okay

It was pretty obvious it is written in .NET.

I still have a lot to learn though so I am not the authority on the complete subject.

that makes two of us

The ISE is kind of neat, although I would like a slightly more powerful IDE.
@Quill No, three.

1:44 AM
I love the ISE. For the most part I am happy with it. Sometimes I miss the object explorer from VBA

@Matt You know VBA??

I usually just need highlighting and tab completion. Maybe bitch at me about open quoted strings and parentheses.

Want to review the tests for my latest refactorings on Rubberduck and see if I missed any edge cases?

Our VBA community here is really nice

Yes I know some VBA. I dont do it a lot. Made a sales quote "program" once

1:45 AM
You know more than I do.

I made my outlook save my attachments for me.
I don't do a tonne: stackoverflow.com/…
There are a lot of better people there and a lot of shit questions
CodeReview has been fun since I have the time to write involved answer and dont have to worry about a simple one liner beating me
5
@Hosch250 I am guessing that continue does not work against ForEach as it is not a true loop. Sure that is covered on a SO question somewere.

Yeah, that is where we figured that out.
2 hours ago, by Quill

A: Why does continue behave like break in a Foreach-Object?

Roman KuzminSimply use the return instead of the continue. This return returns from the script block which is invoked by ForEach-Object on a particular iteration, thus, it simulates the continue in a loop. 1..100 | ForEach-Object { if ($_ % 7 -ne 0 ) { return } Write-Host "$($_) is a multiple of 7" ...

I would be happy to look at whatever you have to see if I can spot something. Just don't expect much from me.

Especially the refactorings, as those are very tough to test comprehensively.

hey @hosch250, what tool do you use to check test coverage?

1:53 AM
dotCover.
I have it free because I have a student ID.

@Hosch250 Might take a bit to wrap my head around the code there as it is not a native language for me but that wont stop me. Would love to help but my contributions might take a bit.

@Matt You don't need to know the C#, just see if the inputs and outputs cover all the expected scenarios.
Feel free to take them for a test drive too - it is fun to see them in work.

Probably best to play with the program first. Get a feel for the girl

Who? Mug? Vba? Nahhhhh....

@Hosch250 Ok I think I just misunderstood you before. You want me to try and test the code for you and see if I can stress test it essentially.

@Matt I don't think anyone is really a PS expert.

2:13 AM
@Matt wait you know me from SO?

@Mat'sMug. When I first started on SO I looked into more questions on the Vbscript and VBA side. I lurked for a long time before I started answering questions. This one: stackoverflow.com/questions/26770614/vba-do-loops-issue/…
We sort of crossed paths.

@Matt Basically.
Reading the unit tests will let you know if a certain case is covered.

@Matt ah yes, I remember that answer (had upvoted it!), this made my day back then
> Retailcoder's answer as a general approach is top notch.

I *think* I may have used floppies once upon a time. but I can't specifically recall anything. Definitely remember the pain of dial-up internet though.

Shit I still use floppies at work. I work with the software that services our planes. They were built in the 70's and use floppies.

I'm happy with Chrome.

3:37 AM
Either way, these ones presumably don't have it because they were reworked by Comodo using the released code.
I've rarely noticed a real difference in speed, so I go with the one with the best display and best UI.
Chrome and IE both have a few websites they display better than FF, but FF has a good display and a better UI.
And the Chrome one takes longer to start and quit.

There are many ironies there. Starting with the fact they don't know what "semantic" means (which is so meta it might recur infinitely).

@Quill I thought you already were on DO. What's your current?

AWS is quite expensive
But DO is much more low level

I heard Amazon was cheap

I have a personal rule to never buy anything from somewhere that uses stock photos though
AWS isn't prohibitively expensive, but it is more expensive than DO.
Also their dashboard is far from clear
They have a lot of interconnected systems and the documentation kinda just leaves you to figure it out a lot of the time

For a second, I thought that said $33.24 and I got all excited

I could buy it if I paid my entire annual salary. Before tax.

I'm here. That's pretty major.
;D
Sorry, that ^ is @JeroenVannevel rubbing off on me.

you sound like Jeroen
one second difference lol

The operations dept on this project insisted on code review and specified the tool (Gerrit) because they wanted CR to have an audit trail. Having done that, they never audited it nor set up any process for such an audit.

Zak
@Quill TS

@Zak You're not out of stars already, surely...
@itsbruce lol, we use TFS for Code Reviews. The only code reviews we've done are ones I've explicitly requested.

1:45 PM
First thing I found when I got here was that most delivery teams were simply working around it and batching up everything to submit to Gerrit
Making the auditable CR meaningless even if anybody checked

Zak
2ndmonitor.com and the2ndmonitor.com are for sale. $12 each...

What they don't seem to understand is that CR does nothing, in itself, to assure code quality. That needs a whole culture of which CR is just one minor part.

Monking

yo
more affordable

lol

Zak
1:53 PM
@Pops I don't know if SE monitors .com domains for its' sites or what its' willing to pay for them, but codereview.com is for sale and it would be pretty damn awesome to have.

well, you can always buy the domain for them ;p

I think ~$33k is a bit out of their budget

How long is the usual TTL on DNS changes

Zak
@DanPantry Who knows. Worth a shot.

On a side note, superuser.com was given to them

1:56 PM
@itsbruce Uh what, they think little gnomes will come in and review their code if submitted to Gerrit?

@itsbruce CR is only raising awareness about the issues. It doesn't resolve them.

I wonder if the bus ride back home will get even more interesting if the wind speed continues to increase
