... wonders what it'd take to make Sune's ears bleed

1:26 AM
"Do not make me quantify how bad our plans are! All our plans are bad! We do not plan well!" - #dnd

1:40 AM
@BESW One of my groups invariably came up with hugely elaborate plans for any encounter where preparation was feasible. Almost all of them backfired horribly, with the exception of one that allowed them to mince a dragon and its rider without letting them get a single turn.

2:31 AM
@Miniman heheh.

2:45 AM
@Miniman In the 4e adventure Thunderspire Labyrinth, there's a setpiece where a dragon traps you in a maze with a rolling boulder while he does fly-bys overhead.
My group jumped up, grabbed the dragon, grappled it to the ground in the maze, and then stood on a wall pushing it back down when it tried to escape as the boulder ran over it multiple times.

@BESW Nice. I've often thought that the published modules are designed for players who aren't actually that good at D&D, if you see what I mean.

3:16 AM
They're definitely designed with a particular group composition in mind. Not unreasonably, they can't anticipate gimmicks like the thri-kreen who can jump 10 squares straight up and grapple a dragon three size categories bigger than itself.

Wow, chat flags are so much trickier to assess (most of the time).

Contextlack!
I hit "not sure" a lot.

Hey guys, anybody got recommendations for early steampunk aesthetics
im aiming for a transition from gothic medieval to steampunk with no victorian in between

@user507974 If you want steampunk tech with gothic medieval, just combine those. Steampunk is usually alternative-Victorian, there is no "Victorian in between"

i mean i kind of want to see early steampunk to compare to victorian
kinda see how i could replicate that with gothic
likely worlds that are a decade or two into a steampunk revolution

3:31 AM
@user507974 What, like Clockpunk?
Or more like Dungeonpunk?

hmm, never heard of those two eras before, time to investigate

It sounds like you want a Renaissance aesthetic.

im really digging the dungeonpunk article atm too
I was about to say i really digged the picture too, and saw it was from Eberron, I really need to read more of that

@user507974 What is it you want out of steampunk? The technology, the aesthetic..? Both of those things are heavily tied to Victoriana. You can inject the technology into a medieval setting, for example, but it won't be at a medieval tech level anymore.

3:37 AM
What is it about steampunk that you like and want to preserve?

@BESW I mean, I generally go and take a quick look at the context, but it often doesn't help much.

@Pixie Jinx.

I kind of am running with a more functional approach to magic, and want to incorporate it into technology
have more advanced transportation

The nature of *punk is to re-imagine contemporary society and technology within another era's aesthetic, with a strong emphasis on themes of underdogs co-opting the powers of the overclass.

firearm technology is ripe for revolution but it doesnt seem like it competes with the olden, magic imbued weapon tech
though that changes throughout the course of the campaign

3:40 AM
So when you say "Medieval," you mean "generic European fantasy"?

constructs that are controlled by a mix of hydraulics and telekenisis
I meant more so Gothic, mostly European and Arabic in style
Arabic not gothic but simliar era
I like the renaissance a lot and gothic naturally transitioned to that

...what era are you meaning by "Gothic"? If you mean the language, that's 9th century. If you mean the art and architecture, that's 12th to 16th.
(I assume you aren't meaning the 18th and 19th century fiction or the 20th century subculture.)

architecture
12th to 16th

But in any case, no historical reference would have indicated to us that you had anything magical in mind.
So, if you're talking 12th to 16th century in terms of Muslim culture, that straddles the defragmentation period.

@besw just saw your answer here scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/71576/… as part of my general churn to find anything on the internet to direct my science fiction appetities

3:48 AM
for simplicities sake then lets ignore arabic at the moment, its a much smaller part of the overall picture than european

enjoy that upvote

@JoshuaAslanSmith Thank you.

debating whether to pickup the 3 body problem or keep looking for something more along my lines

@user507974 Then I'm not sure what you're looking for at all. 12th to 16th century aesthetics of [insert extremely broad category] with some undefined magical element combined to re-imagine a 19th-century level of technology?

its kind of a hypothetical, envision if the dark ages hadnt been so dark
there had been incremental progress in a still feudal society, but thanks to one or two large revolutions the pillars of society got completely shaked up

3:52 AM
"The dark ages." If you're looking for an aesthetic, it's gonna have to be more specific than that. Even within a single narrow period, like the 15th century Renaissance, you get vastly different imagery depending on what part of Italy you look at, much less the Dutch or English aesthetics of the same period.

btw, this is a question ive had, is 15th renaissance italy still considered medieval?
kind of just a curiousity ive had for a while

Instead of using terms that cover upwards of 1,000 years and entire continents, how about talking about specific actual aesthetics you want to draw from?

@user507974 the dark ages is sort of an anti-middle-ages propaganda myth

in particular im hunting for gothic
gothic common builidings
cathedrals are a dime a dozen on google
a few castles
but little else is shown

@user507974 gothic as in the art movement and style around the 12th century or the descriptive term adapted by the romantic writers

3:55 AM
@user507974 "Medieval" is a nigh useless term, even more so than most eras. Time and culture aren't neat and cleanly divided, and that one covers roughly 1,000 years, with the (equally fuzzy) period called the Renaissance overlapping with its end.

architecture of the era associated with gothic architecture: as per prezi.com/iogbyuyucqkp/gothic-vs-renaissance-architecture

haha oh man prezi

These are terms invented by people later so they'd have vocabulary to talk about history, and they reflect the biases and misunderstandings of those people.

Besw seizes on the main point, historical eras are usually for thought convenience more than anything else.

yea, i understand that, and its the reason i use terms like the gothic era (w/ respect to architecture)
almost all you see on google though is cathedrals and some castles
so its hard to get a sense of the different flavors, because, again, the words are somewhat limiting

4:00 AM
@user507974 you would basically want to hunt around for art from the time period in a specific region, country or culture

Id focus on illustrated manuscripts and gothic triptych paintings
note, they loved themselves some gold leaf

You will notice in that article that the reason you're finding mostly buildings in the Gothic style is that it was an architectural style. Other art forms influenced by that style were generally monumental in evocation.
What are you looking for, if not architecture and art?

That still spans 400 years, though. You want to try something like "[time period] [geographic area] [thing]". Here is a 14th century English house. Here's a 1450s English dress.

youd probably need to hit up amazon or a library for something that specific

4:05 AM
@BESW What I find ironic is that it was named "Gothic" in reference to the Goths, implying that the style was barbaric & uncivilised.

@Adeptus as I said, anti middle ages propaganda

You may also find multicultural steampunk resources helpful.

(Whoops. I believe the dress I linked above is actually French, upon a second look.)

So, it sounds like you're looking for 19th-century technology imagined with the aesthetics of Gothic architecture.

id say largely so yea

4:10 AM
But you also want it to be influenced by .... some kind of magic.

are you familiar with Legend of Korra, remember how they used bending to run some of their technology

Aye.

The Legend of Korra took away everything that I loved about Avatar :I

its much in a similar vein to that, though with a larger platitude of options in the magic implemented
a lot of evocation style elemental magic, transmuation, telekinesis

Hey

4:13 AM
Yo Sandwich

Do you want to know who the most famous metalbender is?
Bender Bending Rodriguez
Heheheheheeee

@Sandwich Hmmm...I didn't like Avatar, maybe I should watch Korra?

If you didnt like the first one you might like Korra
But I loved the first one and hated Korra
I felt like it shoehorned a bunch of things into the series to try and change things

@Sandwich On the other hand, I have a bunch of stuff to watch, so I'll probably never get around to it :)

4:16 AM
@BESW Any other further clarifications you think might help?
@Sandwich personally i liked both for different reasons
@Sandwich i felt like every season couldve used an extra 2-3 episodes though personally for pacing

@JoshuaAslanSmith What kind of thing are you looking for?

4:42 AM
@JoshuaAslanSmith Btw, did you see today's Unearthed Arcana? Is it just me, or is Tunnel Fighter a complete game-changer?

lol wat no reaction

@Miniman No limit on attacks of opportunity? I can see that as being very useful in some situations.

@Adeptus I mean, it finally makes defender builds viable.

I just noticed they have the long-promised conversion guide up too. Only 4 pages, I think it's less extensive than some people were expecting.

Fun times: Tunnel Fighting, Sentinel, Polearm Master. Have a quarterstaff in one hand and a whip in the other.

4:56 AM
why the reach melee?

@user507974 Sorry, I meant whip.
(Forgot that a quarterstaff isn't reach.)

do monks get fighting styles btw

So you get an opportunity attack if they move from 10 feet away to 5 feet away, if they move from 5 feet away to 10 feet away, if they move from 10 feet away to 15 feet away, if they move more than 5 feet while staying within 10 feet, or if they attack anyone else. All of which reduce their movement speed to 0 if they hit.
@user507974 Nope.

Monks taste better with cool whip

Now if only there was a way to get opportunity attacks when someone attacks you...

5:05 AM
what was that called?

@user507974 What?

i thought that was a feat or an ability

@user507974 Not one that I know of.
Mind you, I guess at that point you don't really need it. It's pretty much impossible for enemies to attack your allies, as long as your allies stay out of melee, so they're going to attack you even if it's costly to them.
Getting Mage Slayer might help, I guess.

Way I see it, a system that relies heavily on limited action-per-round economies for balance is asking for trouble the instant it gives any action the potential for "unlimited" repetition: A typical design expansion strategy is to introduce new options that take up an existing action slot, forcing interesting choices. Unlimited use of an action breaks that choice and either limits design options or creates space for significant imbalance.

@BESW Yeah, I'll be pretty surprised if it ever becomes official.
On the other hand, the 1 per round restriction on reactions in particular makes a large number of high-cost options practically invalid.
So something along these lines (though probably not infinite) would definitely be a net benefit to the game state, I think.
The Reactive trait a few monsters have (1 reaction per turn instead of round) would make a reasonable feat.
But yeah, infinite reactions is too much, and putting it on a fighting style (relatively low-cost option) is too cheap.

5:23 AM
i can see that that close range shooter option being handy\
for certain characters

Looks like I missed a couple of UAs too. I'm collecting them, even though I've not yet played 5e, and have no immediate plans to do so...

also whats the difference of making it once per turn
as in once per enemies turn too

@user507974 A round is made up of a turn for each combatant.

ok, thought so
that thing is still too strong for a fighting style even with that revision

2 hours later…
7:35 AM
On the subject of unusual *punk, what would a solarpunk spacedock look like?

7:46 AM
could a few pockets of places in cowboy bepop count as solarpunk?

[shrug] Haven't actually watched it.
I'm looking for a mostly-organic aesthetic.

1 hour later…
8:49 AM
Royal Jurai spaceships in Tenchi are treeships, though the tree is placed inside the core of the ship. I seem to remember their space station being pretty organic in nature, but it's been a while. Hmm.
Jurai's Royal Arboreum. Not their space station, but cool:
I'm not sure if anyone else here likes Hatoful Boyfriend beyond passing interest in Ursula Vernon's tweets of it, but there's a plush kickstarter.

9:30 AM
@doppelgreener It's the "workaround" bit that poses the problem for me with the game over in RPG question. It's easy to generalize that no, short of TPK, a loss doesn't mean starting over in almost any game system. It's how you can handle it afterward. That's awfully variable.

@Pixie I was too,... weird-ed out by it to get past dating birds

I can understand that reaction.

I hear it is actually amazing (for a few different reasons some of which are heavy spoilers) but,... yeah, I hardly know anything about it

It is pretty amazing for very spoilery reasons, yes. xD
In one of my favorite endings, spoiler.

yeah

9:34 AM
When the pitch line is "school dating sim in which all the characters are sapient birds" and that's not the amazing part, you've got something special.

I heard that stuff gets amazing towards the end or something

Most of the ends are pretty funny. One is extremely sad though.

the problem is, dating sims don't appeal to me too much to begin with, when you are dating birds,.... I don't even know man

Hatoful is good for people who play datesims (I don't usually, either). It does not take itself seriously.

I did play some dating sims as a teenager, and perhaps because those were mostly the same thing compared to each other,..... I didn't expect much from this

9:37 AM
Though I suppose it does help to kinda know what you're doing in the format.

if it was just a normal looking dating sim I would not have given it even a second look
adding the fact that all the people you date are birds,... really only tells me that you are probably playing everything for laughs
plus, it is still a date sim so I would probably need to still be occasionally playing other date sims to get some/most/all of the humor
I could watch a play-through of it or something, but that would eat a lot of time I might use for something else

There aren't a lot of jokes that are inaccessible if you don't play datesims, though occasionally some Japanese cultural knowledge is helpful.

Hello!

Yawp.

The Drunken Gods yesterday went well.
We will likely continue today at the same time.

9:52 AM
Nice!

It was satisfyingly blasphemous and about as random as an ASDFmovie
@BESW never learned if the genre (religious comedy?) would be something you're interested in?

I'm not opposed to it in general principle, but that particular game doesn't really interest me.

Fair enough. Then maybe some later genres would see BESW as a player.
@Pixie I remember some commotion about your Witch RPG idea, anything come out of it?

@eimyr I think my witchy cravings have been taken care of elsewhere, though nothing is out of the question.

Did you dress up like one for halloween?

10:00 AM
@eimyr To be clear, it's less the "religious" bit and more the "comedy" bit that doesn't click with me. Bro-ness, drunken hijinks, and 80s cliches, don't speak to me.

@eimyr Actually yes. xD But RP-wise too. :P

lol

@BESW Oh. I... couldn't be more surprised after that time you watched the He-man thing.

I didn't dress up for Halloween much anymore
I can't usually think of anything to dress up as

I never dressed up for Halloween. Back where I come from it's not a thing and here... well, let's just say I don't have much company to do it properly.

10:03 AM
We get to dress up at the library if we work Halloween or the couple of days prior to it, although both this year and last year my costume was more like "wear a normal outfit and put something nonstandard on my head to differentiate myself."

(I like the idea of PCs with total control over a ridiculously narrow demesne, and in another context I'd be all up in there pointing out that "summon paraphernalia" is only a very tiny and limited way of thinking about influence over a demesne, and coming up with characters to exploit the depth of a concept with such narrow breadth.)

( @BESW I would be extremely satisfied if the players wanted to exploit their demesne to hell and back. Summoning the Shield Pizza was an excellent example.)
@Pixie like a cat?
I actually would like to try dressing up once, however, I'm much more about completing the outfit than wearing it and much more about props DYI than clothes.
So I might end up with realistically looking foam M-8 Avenger, but the rest of the outfit would be just random scraps.

@eimyr Well, like: one of them is a god of sports fans, right? So he should be able to spark a mob into enthusiastic riot, and influence a person's devotion, and cause temporary rivalries or friendships. Not just make stuff.

@eimyr Last year it was more of an excuse to wear my big pink flower crown in public, but I brought a sparkly wand as well so I could be the most boring of fairies.

@BESW Agreed. He chose his skill himself, I didn't impose it on him. The only actual limitation was than he has one divine skill, well, because he is hungover.
If I were a character in my own game I would play as God of Being Cool and have people forgive any minor transgression unless the transgression goes against the Bro Code.

10:11 AM
I'd be inclined to come up with a skill that's both literal and abstract, in the vein of the most awesome of DRYH Madness talents.

@BESW can you give an example? I'm not too familiar with DRYH.
@Pixie the Fairy of Boredom, who uses pink dust to make you sleepy and indifferent.

@eimyr Just like she is all the time... perfect. :v

@eimyr In DRYH, one Madness talent is Knives: you can always have a knife at hand, and it can kill anything. At moderate levels that means you can kill ghosts and clockwork creatures. At the highest levels, you can kill ideas, murder friendships, sever contracts.
So, for example, since it's the 80s and that means a fetishising of private enterprise and consumerism, I might be able to Buy Anything.
Buy a gun, buy a silence, buy time.
"We aren't gonna make it out of the building before the bomb explodes!"
"Then it's lucky I brought my credit card. I'll buy us the time we need."

Yeah, you bought Jack's silence and now you have it, so Jack has to be noisy all the time.
I like it a lot.

That's the sort of thing that makes Roll For Shoes so powerful.
By having players come up with their own skills on the fly, it opens up a massive space for creativity at any level. I've mentioned the guy whose PC couldn't do things, right?
He'd have skills like Can't Find A Door 2, and if he failed the roll he'd find a door.

10:22 AM
lol

the wotc forums...they are still up?

@BESW You did. Drunken gods have some skills like that, but are quite conservative in their choices as of yet.
Maybe it's because neither of us played much RFS in the past. Actually, it's my second game at all and first time to run.

11:02 AM
@BESW well, the players did some skill revamp in Drunken Gods after I left yesterday. Their skills evolved and I like them.
It's much more abstract than it was yesterday or were abstract to begin with

2 hours later…
1:32 PM
@eimyr I am fan-theorying a god of bromance who is Assbad's BFF.

Lol
@eimyr are all the god games going to be around that time?

@doppelgreener awesome
@Aaron "all the god games" - so far it's a one shot, which we didn't manage to finish in a single evening.

Oh

We are set to continue today at 20:00 UTC.
That said, if there is a strong argument for continuing the sessions I might consider it.
E.g. if more people are interested.

@Pixie I hear you, but gut tells me that despite it being unusual, its current form is the best way for our community to take it and handle it, and for the person to learn what they're trying to learn

1:36 PM
However, it would be difficult for me to participate outside of 1900-midnight UTC, Mon, Tue or Thu

UTC is 2 hours ahead of Central Standard right?

@Pixie it's pretty much a question of "what's the deal with how RPGs do this one thing???" and we've got a bunch of those and they tend to work out well; getting the people to narrow it down to a particular system is something they don't understand why they need to do - leaving it broad means a good answer can show them that, and luckily enough our community handles that OK historically

UTC is currently GMT, standard Greenwich time.

See that is one thing that confuses me about time zones

@doppelgreener I answered that and tried to tackle both of these aspects actually. The answer so far could be shortened to "Usually not, and especially not in the one you are playing"

1:39 PM
Why are there TWO acronyms for ONE timezone?

UTC is universal coordinated time. No country is in UTC at any point.
Purely by coincidence it's measured as local Greenwich time.

@eimyr i saw that, and that's precisely what I was hoping people would do
so thanks for doing that ;)

GMT is Greenwich Median Time and is used by the UK, Portugal and some other countries.
My pleasure.

I am so confused. I hate time zones. Either way 20:00 UTC is 6 hours away for me
Well 6.5 hours

Where do you live?

1:41 PM
Missouri America

oh
I'm in the UK and it's 13:42 at mine.

@Aaron We had GMT+X. Then people decided "wait, hold on, that GMT system is not actually a good way to measure time zones. let's agree on going by this UTC thing, ok?" "ok, sure".

It is 7:42 here

So 20:00 is 6h 18m from now.

Yea
So it will be 4ish here

1:43 PM
Like yesterday, you won't be able to join, I assume?

UTC/GMT is pretty much identical and interchangeable for now, but here's why we use UTC: What if Greenwich (the G in GMT, and our definition for GMT+0) decides to put its time zone an hour forward or backward? If we're using the GMT system, suddenly every timezone has just changed. If we're using UTC, we shrug and say Greenwich is now in UTC+1 or UTC-1.

Second that.

I think I will. That is later than yesterdays game right?

And Missouri is currently at UTC-6

I can play if it starts after 3:30
And if I am right it will be 4

1:44 PM
It's the same time as yesterday.

Oh. Maybe I miss calculated yesterday then.

I should be able to play.
If we do make this a longer term game will we keep in in RFS?

@doppelgreener @eimyr's answer is quite good, though the main reason I'd say so is that it fully addresses the situation in Anima Prime. The introduction is helpful, but the answer still isn't about "RPGs in general." It's about Anima Prime, and I don't think it would be useful if it weren't. That was the heart of my suggestion. I can see what you're saying, though.

Don't know.

1:47 PM
@Aaron Miss Calculated, the mathematician. (Or the nuclear physicist, which might be far more fun depending on your interpretation of her name.)

Lol.
I could turn that into a god for that game. "The god of Miss calculations."

@doppelgreener It's like with the word Unionized. Your pronunciation depends on whether you are a chemist or a plumber.

Hmm. I can't think of any non metagaming abilities though

@Pixie Yeah, I am relying entirely on our community's ability to see the asker needs to know about both, and past experience tells me our community can do that.

You would start with Do Anything 1 and please DO METAGAME.
Just remember you need to be a cohort of Assbad.

1:50 PM
Ability 2 misscalculate STR somehow wind up with 12356 str
lol

@eimyr clever, that took me a bit :D

Something like that?

@doppelgreener which one was your default one?

@eimyr the one as in union, but that's because I have a lot more dialog about unions surrounding me than about ions.

@Aaron I... managed to become completely confused about what you just said.

1:52 PM
I didn't put it together well

@Aaron Yes! "As long as there's a calculation involved, you can always come up with a number 1-2 orders of magnitude off." Excellent meta-superpower.

@Aaron shall we move this to Gods room to avoid cluttering the main chat?
Or maybe not :P

1: Do anything
2: Miscalculate STAT, Make the universe miscalculate one of your stats

And you would play as the god of... what?

Miscalculations
XD
Erm wait
not sure if that would fit as being under assbad

1:54 PM
And a cohort of the Supreme Bro God in what way?
yeah, that's my point

Hmmm. I will think of something else.

I think if we stick to Roll For Shoes the game would quickly roll head over heels.
I mean, there wasn't too many outrageous rolls yet, but I would expect a session or two to make a total mess out of any plot/character coherence.

Right. Stick with it too long and we would have people rolling double digit dice

And have 21 abilities, 7 of which allow triggering the Heat Death of Universe

@eimyr Perhaps the god of exaggeration.

2:05 PM
@Aaron Too long, or just long enough? 8)

@Pixie God of Boasting: At any time when someone brags, you can one-up him temporarily.

@Pixie @eimyr this brogod totally has Gilderoy Lockhart's back

2:20 PM
@doppelgreener @pixie @aaron God of Wingmen: At the cost of making yourself look silly you can make someone else succeed at any task and get all the credit.

@eimyr Oh I like that

Plot Twist: the person you're helping succeeds TOO MUCH
@Aaron when you decide, just put it in the google doc
Also, everyone is invited if you can make it.

@eimyr I could see this also being a skill of a god with a specific domain

God of Wingmen: At the cost of making yourself look silly you can make someone else succeed at scoring, but he gets all the credit.
Scoring being a vaguely defined success scenario.
@Aaron @Pixie @doppelgreener God of Regret: You can undo anything, provided it's the morning after.

@eimyr God of plan B?

2:34 PM
@Aaron God of Oh Shit It's Cops!: You can disperse any gathering at a moments notice and leave no trace of what happened.
Or maybe God of Staying In Vegas: You can make anything that happened stay in Vegas.

@eimyr Ability Aura of vegas XD
Anywhere you go IS vegas XD

@eimyr ....... Vegas becomes the unfortunate target of too many explosions and nobody can work out why

A new cult is started: The Randomites, who believe Vegas is the Miscellaneous folder of universe's C: drive.
Okay, I need to put down Randomites as a sect to use later.

lol

1 hour later…
3:40 PM
@Aaron did you make up your mind?

Good [Now-And-Near-Future-Time-Of-Day]!

3:57 PM
@eimyr Yea the wingman

@Anaphory and to yourself!
@Aaron make sure that you put it in the google doc before in-4-hours-time

4:39 PM
@eimyr My name is so original XD

@Aaron could you put some limit on your ability?
As it is it basically says "I can make anyone succeed at anything at any time"

@eimyr better?

Also, if you watch HIMYM, your name should be Barney
yay

@eimyr I thought about it.
Not sure if I could RP well enough to be worthy of that name though

2 hours later…
6:23 PM
@BESW My problem is that your standard plot summary is worthless, some of my favorite books have the worst plot summaries on the back cover (pretty much every heinlein novel) and Im also trying to walk this narrow path between avoiding political suckerpunches/preachy stuff but also avoiding just straight genre pulp.
@Miniman I did see it, its certainly got a terrible name but action economywise its definitely how you would build a defender vs the terrible defender feat
I actually thought the ranger class path had some interesting features, and a way to make a stealth sniper viable outside the rogue class or multiclassing
im on the fence if the close quarters fighter is good, sort of a gunslinger-esque feel to it

@JoshuaAslanSmith what game is this for?

6:39 PM
@Aaron 5e, its not actually PF flintlock pistol gunslinging
I just mean its a class focused on short range combat with 30 feet, point blank range archery

Ah. I figured it was 5e just wanted to verify :)

@JoshuaAslanSmith I'm trying to parse "avoid preachy stuff" with "Heinlein is one of my favourite authors."
Error. Error.

@eimyr ...does the Bayeux tapestry meme include its own grammatical logic, like doge or lolcat, or do memers just have no idea what "doth" means?

@BESW Yes, it does. It involves mindlessly peppering the sentences with random Thou, Doth, Y and E's.

"Mindlessly Peppering" would be a good name for a band.

It does not, however, require any actual understanding of Middle English.
@BESW what musical genre?

Probably a Spice Girls/Beatles mashup.
Their first single, of the same name, is about Iron Man.

A propos, if there is anyone who is genuinely mindlessy peppering, those are writers of Iron Man 3 movie.

(They also have a really great song about 101 Dalmations, but nobody gets it because nobody's read the book anymore.)

Also, thanks for recommending the Overlook Hotel chat, @BESW.
Their writing exercise is good fun.

I should grab some exercises. I started NaNo, but casually and with no roadmap. I'm not going to finish it, but it should motivate me to write a little extra. :P

Whatcha writin'?

I don't know, but I intend to find out. :v
Right now I just have some characters and very vague ideas that are knitting themselves together.

Don't let me squeeze it out of you!

lol
alright, i need to clean out the cages
probably won't be back
see you

@eimyr It's... hmm. Very squishy right now. I'm probably channeling inspiration from magical girls (MKR specifically), YuGiOh, a bit of Black Rock Shooter TV, and some themes and elements I worked with a lot as a kid. People with magical alternate identities are trapped in a bizarre realm, fighting threats as well as each other. Their powers manifest from their personality, emotions, and dreams, and their hearts have the power to influence the world around them.

...and they have a knitting circle every Thursday.

@BESW It could happen.
Ooooh. Knitting would be a very cool theme for an environment.
@BESW I feel the bit with the soup in my soul.

@JoshuaAslanSmith I think it's too strong, though, especially for a fighting style. The Ranger path has got some interesting abilities but it doesn't seem to fit particularly well with the base class.
Close quarters shooting I actually think is pretty well balanced.

Gah! 23 upvotes to an answer that's horribly wrong in every respect >.<

@Miniman downvoted for ya.

@Shalvenay Heh, thanks. I'm not so worried about it being taken seriously, the correct answer is far higher scored, and accepted, it's just...bizarre...that 24 people thought D&D monsters weren't meant to be killed.

@Miniman sidenote: I seriously doubt most dragons (even reds or golds) could survive an encounter with the products of pyrotornadogenesis -- and that's something that's well within a skilled Druid's wherewithal to pull off at upper levels. (all you need is some Control Winds to set it up, a bit of Call Lightning to get the blaze started, and a nice, high hill or mountain to play with)

11:47 PM
@Shalvenay From memory you can't make tornadoes with Control Winds.

@Miniman not directly -- what the Control Winds sets up is a Santa Ana/Foehn wind

@Shalvenay No idea what that is, obviously.

which combines with the mountain wave conditions and a few sparks in the right place to create a fast-flaming, laterally spreading fire on the lee slope due to brands being entrained in the mountain wave vortex
and then you have pyroCb (aka firestorm thundercloud) + natural rotation = conditions ripe for tornadogenesis

@BESW that's a fair joke I'll give you that, To actually explain it (in a jokey way) id need a big ugly if than, else if statement. But basically a lot of what's critically lauded in sci-fi today is a turn off because of the politics therein which are antithetical to my own. So what I mean by preachy is pushing a political agenda over solid story, but I enjoy discussions of philosophy (see Heinlein).
@besw Theres also a really, really big tone issue I get into with a lot of speculative fiction. I'd need to really hash it out to explain what usually meets my criteria (or just give you a list of like 10 sci-fi books I really like as examples)
