@ParanoidPanda @Rinzwind Preferring good music over fat running people. youtube.com/watch?v=B58OBfM-8A4

@Oli I guess I'll just have to go with kubuntu-desktop then if I want to actually use it on bare hardware >.>

Tim
2:12 PM
3.3 for the win!

@Rinzwind Dictionary attack. Just saying.

Tim
@Seth You can just install kde as a second dm i think? Although maybe not with the latest pasma

2:31 PM
now where is the blogpost about your trip to Zambia @oli

Oli
@Rinzwind Behind the processing of a few thousand photos.
And two weeks work emails :)

a blogpost can be done without images >:-D

Oli
Sure, but a picture is worth a thousand words. It's quicker to just sort the photos than describe every elephant ;)

than post 1 picture >:-D chop chop!
Grey, 2 ears, 2 long teeth. fat.
There done.

Grey. 2 ears. 2 long teeth. Fat.

2:37 PM
@JourneymanGeek that is dinner :-)

Oli
Urgh my colour calibration in Aftershot is out. How tedious.

where's mah exif data?

Oli
It was embedded, but imgur might have nuked it

you are all like 15.10's default background?

> "Xiaomi’s long-rumoured Linux laptop will enter production in the first part of 2016, a new report claims. Industry watcher Digitimes sources also reveal that China’s Xiaomi plans to launch two notebooks: one sporting a 12.5-inch display, and another with a 13.3-inch display." - OMG! Ubuntu!, Xiaomi Linux Laptop To Enter Production Next Year

2:43 PM
@xiaodongjie I never liked the default.

@Oli Not might, definitely has, imgur does that by default to protect users privacy

@Rinzwind I don't like 15.10's background, it's so bad for my eyes.
Why they chose the color bad for eyes.
It's graphics design also so bad.

@xiaodongjie Ubuntu by default never looked amazing. The default (icon)-theme is atrocious to say the least. But, have no fear, a million themes are here.
Never used the default (icon)-theme

@blade19899 yes, but the background color did not bad for eyes at least before 14.04.
@blade19899 of course, who can modify the theme as they want.

@xiaodongjie I tweak everything to my liking.
@xiaodongjie I even made a install script that installs all my apps, and configures Ubuntu, they I want it, automatically.

2:49 PM
@blade19899 at first, my eyes very tired for this background. for example, while installing the system and becore login.

Oli
@Seth But that's shot with a Nikon D750 with a 70-200 f/2.8 through a TC-20E III at 400mm f/5.6. ISO800 1/1000s.

@Oli Thanks!

j0h
Is there a way to post video in the forum?

3:04 PM
@j0h nope Just the link you can post like a URL and we are a Q+A not a forum

We have the most people in the chat room today than I have seen in a while! But what's the point of being here if you never say a word?

user136984
Lots of new people actually.

3:52 PM
@ParanoidPanda quality over quantity :=D

user136984
So now that this has 7 upvotes will it become an advert that is displayed on the site?

@fossfreedom askubuntu.com/users/177437/lu%C3%ADs-de-sousa seems to be editing a lot of old 12.04 topics.(he is all over the frontpage)

user136984
@Rinzwind Yeah, that's something I don't like. :P

@Rinzwind adding chrubuntu tag rather than 12.04

hmm yeah I noticed
ok

3:56 PM
that didnt work

:24950225 Is that some special moderator-only notifying-by-email syntax you just tried there?

user136984
@fossfreedom: What's chrubuntu?

@Fabby For your famous backup white magic: askubuntu.com/q/690205/367990

@ParanoidPanda its ubuntu on a chrome-book - its a special script that goes and downloads ubuntu and then installs it in a particular way

some users want to access their file/photo/video/music from ubuntu. and yes you can break windows from within ubuntu (find /media/my_user -name *.dll -delete ) — Archemar 2 hours ago
Should above comment be removed for suggesting dangerous commands which noobs might try out?

4:00 PM
@LuísdeSousa why are you doing a mass tag effort at the moment?

user136984
4:15 PM
What is supertuxkart?

@ParanoidPanda a game like Mario cart

@ParanoidPanda A game similar to Mario Kart or Moorhuhn-Kart (if that isn't a German-only game)
It's cool!

user136984
I understand that it is centred around penguins and was made for Linux?

hg8
@ParanoidPanda you understood correctly

You can drive as tux (penguin), but also as e.g. the GIMP mascot, or a dragon, dog, ...

hg8
4:21 PM
moreover it's open-source (of course)

That reminds me of not having played that for a while. Have to do this now! ;)

hg8
@ByteCommander there was a lot of great updates recently

user136984
@ByteCommander @hg8: Yes, I've heard a lot about it recently. I'm going to give it a go, I'm installing it now! :D

hg8
@ByteCommander That is a good idea, I will give a try too =)

user136984
Though I don't really do gaming any more, so it will be more just to see what everyone is talking about.

4:27 PM

user136984
Oh never mind... I was missing the super at the beginning... :D

user136984
There's a panda! :D

kos
Another release and still the Home folder pops up when emptying the trash...

hg8
@kos I was thinking the same... Is there a known fix for this?

kos
@hg8 Not that I know, but now that you ask this it comes to ming that someone might have posted one in the bug report, going to check it now

hg8
4:40 PM
@kos the same happen when trying to unminimize a copy dialog

kos
@hg8 Fair enough, better to have options. However it seems like the bug is in Unity. bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/1445595
(No workaround apparently)

hg8
@kos Thanks.

kos
Np. Hoped there was one as well

user136984
@ByteCommander: The default character (at least for me) is a panda! :D

user136984
Is that something they choose at random?

user136984
4:49 PM
Or is it the default?

@ParanoidPanda O.O
I don't even have any panda...

user136984
I don't know, well, I sure got a panda! :D

supertuxkart 0.8.1-2build1 for Vivid is what I use.

user136984

Oh.
Need to reinstall soon anyway, it will be Wily then.

user136984
4:59 PM
@ByteCommander: I guess Wily has a later version.

Obviously.
Need to go now.

user136984

user136984
And what's "UOS (Monday - Thursday)"?

5:09 PM
o/ @StefanoPalazzo - long time no see.

@kos @hg8 I triaged that bug just a few weeks ago. It's on the list of things to def. fix by 16.04.
Workaround is open the trash and empty from there.

I just rm -Rf on the trash folder contents, since I like a clean desktop and have absolutely NO icons on my desktop.

Unity ;)

Oh. nm. People using unity probably want that to work.

No I mean Unity has not desktop icons, it's just in the launcher.

5:15 PM
Yeah. So, same idea. I just use a launcher bar at the bottom instead of up the side... and a different compositor.

kos
@Seth Thanks for having triaged it, it's quite annoying.
Also my bad, I rather meant "fix" than "workaround"

It's probably not a hard bug to fix if you want to take a stab at it yourself @kos :)
but it should definitely get fixed by 16.04.
Any super bash-ers around?
wait nvm.

kos
@Seth Likely :D
@Seth Define "super". Don't think I will fit though.

I figured out what I wanted to do would be impossible anyway so no biggie.
@hbdgaf Are you familiar with AppIndicator3?

kos
5:38 PM
@Serg However no, that doesn't solve anything, it's still intermittent, I've seen bug reports around for the same thing, it's probably GNOME's fault. So I'm giving a shot to blackbox since you guys suggested it

Please, I need a test. sudo mount "/dev/sdc1" "/mnt" -o "nodev,noexec,comment=x-gvfs-show"
Does comment=x-gvfs-show no longer Wily?
Same for -o "nodev,noexec,x-gvfs-show" o_O

6:06 PM
@A.B. No longer Wily?

user136984
6:20 PM
Just found this great app!

user136984

@Seth: Is there any way that I could make it more similar to the other one so that they could be merged?

6:46 PM
Perhaps I should use bold

@ParanoidPanda nope, but maaaybe if you edited the second one to be more general like "how do I change program display name" or something similar (not sure that wording is quite right, but something similar) it could help..

@kos Blackbox is very minimalistic, be prepared to be back in the 1991 :) There's also openbox, which is a little more flexible, and you can configure it a bit more. Take a look at the screenshot here of my desktop. That's openbox, background set with feh, volume control with volti, and the launcher is plank . . .That link also contains some of the config so . . . .feel free to use it
@Terrance Thanks ^_0

kos
@Serg Thanks, I will look into that. I've removed blackbox already because of that :D

@kos Heheh, no love for the old-school looks ?

kos
8:18 PM
@Serg After blackbox, I can say no :D

I actually kinda like giving my Ubuntu this old-school, back-in-the-day Unix look, even installed motif desktop and plan9 desktop (9wm) ^_^ (the last one was pain to learn though, as . . . .it's not intuitive)

=)

@ByteCommander by the way , we finally got some of our java projects back . . . I have one project that is B, 31/40 . . . .the rest . . . .7/40, 19/60, and the last one that you saw was 19/40 . . . yeah, I'm doing great , right !

Like I said, the issue isn't with code. I've a running, working code ( which broke only with one test case, I need to go back and figure out what happened ). But . . .it's the requirements,man . . .
I loose all points on the requirements

user136984

I like that new design

That was fast :)

Much better than the old one

@Fabby sure :)

@NathanOsman Yeah

9:26 PM
@ParanoidPanda and burst your ear drums! :D

RN I'm trying to find GitHub repos I can submit pull requests to :P

Which languages are you looking for?

Mainly Python & JS, but I'd be willing to give C++ a go if need be

Most of the heavy lifting for my chat script is in JavaScript.

user136984
@Fabby: Yeah, well, hopefully not... :D

9:28 PM
Or even some basic Go, if even to submit an easter egg of some sort for your bot

user136984
But it sure felt like it! :D

@NathanOsman I need you script for Android Firefox with the mobile design
:)

The server-side part of the chat status script is in Go.

@NathanOsman I will look into this

@A.B. Is there a way to install UserScripts in Firefox for Android?

9:29 PM
@NathanOsman auchatstatus?

Indeed.

No idea. I will check this tomorrow :\

@NathanOsman Looking at that right now

I noticed that as well.

@Seth I've used appindicator 3. What's the question?

@NathanOsman ooh, good point.

Lemme know if you need a testimonial.
I'll write something awesome up for you.

@hbdgaf I want to have my indicator disappear as soon as it is clicked, i.e. no menu. I realize that's not supported but I was thinking I might be able to override a function somewhere and force it. I've since looked at what's left of the APIs and kinda lost hope though..

o/

thanks guys! Still trying to sort out my schedule.

@Seth That I haven't done, but I'll take a poke at it, and see if anything jumps out at me. You should just be able to connect the on_clicked callback to the destructor.

Good night guys o/

9:33 PM

@NathanOsman Should changing line 19 in the script to look like this: code.src = '/home/USER/auchatstatus/static/chatstatus.js'; make it load the script locally?

One of the Microsoft employees I met in San Diego used Ubuntu. Like he worked crypto for MS, but he saw me use it for my prezi that year, and approached me at one of the invite only parties and said "You know, I use Ubuntu too".

Oh wait...it's trying to grab it from stackexchange...

This is my favourite Genesis album! :)

@RPiAwesomeness It should.
Actually...

@ParanoidPanda: nice changes to the community ad! Congrats!

Not allowed to load local resource: file://home/USER/auchatstatus/static/chatstatus.js
:/

@RPiAwesomeness You'll probably need to use file:///home/USER/auchatstatus...
Oh right.

Ah, triple slash

9:37 PM
Forgot about that.

Ooor not

user136984
@Fabby: Thanks! :)

You'll probably need to fire up a dev. server to host it locally. Luckily that's easy to do:
python -m SimpleHTTPServer

Yeah. I can just pop it onto my server

Run that in a directory to host the contents at localhost:8000

@Fabby: And I found out about this great app today! :)

I forgot that that's what I had to do.

user136984
I wish I could make it into livewallpaper!

@ParanoidPanda reading...
@ParanoidPanda both upvoted...

@NathanOsman I'm assuming you heard about Let's Encrypt being recognized by VeriSign & thus all major browsers?
Can't wait until that becomes a normal thing you can easily do

I've signed up for the beta.
:)

9:40 PM
Ooo...I should look into that

user136984
@Fabby: Thanks! :)

@NathanOsman Only thing is, I don't own my domain. It's a redirect through NoIP...

I plan on getting one eventually, but just don't have the $ RN

9:43 PM
I wonder if they're doing domain validation.
If so, there still may be a way to do it.
Actually, they'll probably want to verify the root domain.

@intex No clue, I'm afraid... :-(

@hbdgaf I couldn't find an on_clicked callback in any of the docs.
Unity 7 was probably the worst documented project ever xD

I can believe that.

@Fabby you're thinking of applying too? cool!
@NathanOsman Here's to hoping Unity 8 will be better.

9:48 PM
@Seth Isn't it an introspected python library? There has to be a function for on_clicked somewhere, or it wouldn't know when to drop the menu

@hbdgaf true

@Seth Nah! Writing a testimonial for you... (is what I meant I wanted to do)

lemme try something real quick.
@Fabby Oh. my bad haha. Thanks!
@hbdgaf nothing obvious pops out. How would you go about looking deeper?

user136984
Right, well glad I made it to 8k today! But goodnight for now! :)

Here's an option, but it's not an exposed API, so, you'ld be reading source and grabbing a memory address of a function you find directly and usnig something like detours or a ptrace hit on access. It's not a "nice" way to do things, but you could in theory do it.

9:57 PM
@ParanoidPanda pumpkin! ;-)

@hbdgaf hmm, in that case I guess just one menu option isn't too terrible afterall ;p
oh well. Thanks for the help!

Yeah. It would be ugly if you did it.
