I forgot all about it. It was from my tax-office time (2004-ish)

Wow time warner?

Yeah. This is their cheapest service.
Miles away from Verizon's crappy DSL nonetheless.

They actually did a big upgrade in my city, because it's one of the points that Google Fiber is going to roll out

We got the TWC Maxx upgrades here in New York.
What's the highest speed offered in your area?

11:02 PM
did they do maxx in most cities?

It used to be 2 Mbps for the same rate.
Not yet. New York City was one of the first regions to get Maxx.

300/20
Don't ask how you get that over copper

That's the highest Maxx tier.
@oldmud0 Two words: Channel bonding.
Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS /ˈdɒksɪs/) is an international telecommunications standard that permits the addition of high-bandwidth data transfer to an existing cable TV (CATV) system. It is employed by many cable television operators to provide Internet access (see cable Internet) over their existing hybrid fiber-coaxial (HFC) infrastructure. The various standards are sometimes abbreviated to Dx, as in a "D3 modem" (DOCSIS 3 modem). == HistoryEdit == DOCSIS was developed by CableLabs and contributing companies, including 3Com, ARRIS, BigBand Networks, Broadcom, Cisco...
Transfer data over multiple cable channels on the coax and you've got a lot more bandwidth than you think.

Without adding an extra cable?

Surprisingly enough, this house's old coax is providing very good signals on the cable modem.

11:06 PM
Soooo how will Google Fiber set up lines without going underground?

I'm getting 39 dB SNR on all the downstream channels.

Just use utility poles?

Upstream is 43-44 dB.

I have a weak downstream 1
13572775 uncorrectables
But if the internet ain't broke why even bother fixing it

The modem we have (Arris SURFboard SB6141) can handle 8 downstream channels and 4 upstream channels.
The more advanced SB6183 can do 16 downstream channels for even higher speeds, although the SB6141 will suffice for speeds up to 100 Mbps on TWC service.

11:14 PM
oooh
this seems shiny for those who want to make the leap to 4K at a pretty nice price

0_0
and its amusing when I prove myself wrong.

help
I clicked arrange icons by now everything is gone
windows 7 SUCKS

...and with more upstream bandwidth, RDP will finally be usable out of the house.
1.1-1.2 Mbps isn't a lot but it's way better than the 128-160 Kbps on the DSL
Considering that RDP is a pretty efficient protocol, I might just be able to avoid carrying my laptop to campus.

properties is saying it has 684 files
but nothing is showing in the folder
im getting real fucking tired of this

11:27 PM
Yet another perk of paying the extra $55 for Windows Pro.

why does everybody tell me I should get windows 7 when its a retard?
ok so if you dont click 'folders' it says there is no files or folders at all

@RecycleBin language.

If you wouldn't say it at work, don't use it here

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Funny thing, that... have you heard what we say at work? :P

11:34 PM
hmm funny last time this happned you tried to blame it on me
instead of the OS being a retard

@Bob no?

11:58 PM
I have just been restarted! This happens daily automatically, or when my owner restarts me. Ready for commands.
