@DrRDizzle I think I have you beat with the worst s**t ever seen. Just watched "Crimson Peak". So bad.
@DrRDizzle I wish that I would have fallen asleep to that rather than The Martian :)

Q: Trying to remember a Japanese film about kids who were abandoned by their mother

ghostdogSo, some years back, I remember watching this Japanese film about a young(ish) boy (pre-teen to early teen) and his siblings (two sisters, I think). They lived with the boy's single mum in her apartment until she left and didn't return. (She decided to live with her new boyfriend, but never told ...

@MovieReel @MovieReel Jesus, not more porn questions!

@steelerfan He claims not.

I hate my i-pad with a passion.

@steelerfan Poor iPad. :(

@Catija oh god, I can't handle it!
@Catija well, I just wasted 2 hours of my life watching Crimson Peak, I am highly annoyed ;)

@steelerfan I don't watch scary movies. So I won't be making that mistake. :P

3:37 AM
@Catija I can't delete comments when I am in chat with my i-pad
It's not scary, trust me. Just stupid.

Well... the previews are scary enough, so I'll still avoid it. Anyway, I'm going to sleep :D... or at least, going to do the nightly crossword puzzle.

@Catija goodnight :)

Q: Toon tries to make out with his girlfriend before she's late for work?

Ben GiglioneYears ago, I saw a LooneyTunes/MGM-style toon short where an anthropomorphic guy spends the morning trying to get some nookie in with his much taller anthropomorphic girlfriend/wife before she has to go to work. She tries to multitask this while getting ready to leave, and something always snafus...

@MovieReel Whaaat. How did I miss this question? It's only one of my favorite movies ever (possibly even in my top 5). Also, I'm pretty sure it appeared in ID once (and the q was very popular), but I can't find it anywhere.

@Walt it has been a very bizarre day.....it's not a full moon is it?
@Walt I am curious to know what your top 5 movies are. I have not even heard of this one :(

@steelerfan You mean on M&TV or in general? ;)

@Walt Just in general. I trust your opinion.

I did have this weird dream yesterday where I created a dumb TV show about a relationship falling apart. Many people from HIMYM made cameos for no reason (Lily was a limousine driver). It was a really awful show.
@steelerfan I really, really recommend it. It's very sad at times, though

7:15 AM
o/

@steelerfan It's tricky. I've seen way too many. :( I did try to pick 1-2 faves from each genre once and ended up with about 20 movies.

@Walt I will check it out for sure!

@Walt as suspected. Because you know so many films.

@AnkitSharma I made an insane attempt to rate them all on IMDb a couple of years back. Only 150 or so got a 10\10

@Walt i rarely give 10/10. Utmost 9/10

7:18 AM
@Walt I couldn't do that either...too many.

I also don't have top 10, i think i will settle with top 30-35 atleast
Will make that list someday

@AnkitSharma You can do what I did and go by genre and pit them against one another, tournament style

Atleast i have few genres which i don't like, so it might be not that tough.

Much easier with shows. I think I have my top 10 nailed down there. But we've probably been over this already. ;)

@Walt @AnkitSharma Well, whatever you guys do, DO NOT see "Crimson Peak" it was horrible.

7:24 AM
@steelerfan Saw the trailer and it just looked like some generic ghost flick

Q: How realistic was Robinson Crusoe on Mars when it came out?

celtschkHaving recently seen Robinson Crusoe on Mars, I of course noticed how unrealistic it is. However given that it was released in 1964, before the first landing of any space probe on Mars, I wonder how realistic it was based on the state of knowledge about Mars back then.

@Walt It's not even really a ghost flick. It's not even scary. The only good thing about that movie was Tom Hiddleston.

@steelerfan I tried harder to make plan for it with no success.
@Walt I have problem with most of the shows, in middle or end everyone got ruined up except Breaking Bad.

@steelerfan Hopefully he calls no one a certain muling something

@Walt Ha! No. I just really like him. I usually see everything he is in, even the Thor sequel :(

7:27 AM
@AnkitSharma If they have really good stretches, though, I let it slide. Most shows lose steam at some point, let's face it.
@steelerfan He does seem to enjoy playing that character

Dexter, Under the dome was worse ending example for me.

@AnkitSharma Oh, UTD ended? In a convoluted way, I reckon :)

@Walt Have you seen "Only Lovers Left Alive"? I loved him in that. Great vampire movie.

A: Why are people playing police officers not arrested?

Steven KostronSome cops in NYC figured out a few years ago that they could abuse their powers of arrest and destroy the lives of actors who play police officers by arresting them for just having the uniform in asuit bag. But then the cops would steal the actors jobs and simply play theroles themselves. When is...

^ Is it answer??

@steelerfan Not yet, no. But I usually like Jarmusch, so it's on my list

7:30 AM
@Walt To be precise, they didn't ended it. They ruined it.

@Walt I hope you like it. I love vampire films and this one was very unique.

@AnkitSharma At least no one became a lumberjack. I hope.

@steelerfan i loved them till they are not teen romcom

@AnkitSharma Well, you should check this one out then. It is very different and Tom Hiddleston plays an excellent part.

@Walt Worse then that, all survivor got no-guilty pass. And one became something like mayor
@steelerfan Ok, added n watchlist

7:33 AM
@AnkitSharma So they didn't go with my snowglobe idea? :(

@Walt no, it was all real, but main villain just came in last two episode and survive and got the power to create one more dome in next season which is canceled
@steelerfan I liked, Let Me In too which i watched recently.

@AnkitSharma Russ Cargill?

@Walt no :D, alien child from unexpected match.
I don't know why they can greenlight Under the dome for 3 season and not Constantine

@AnkitSharma $$$
@AnkitSharma Hate shows that are all about a convoluted mystery and things like 'plot' and 'character' (and good dialogue) are of little importance

Constantine might have earned more if they given it better time slot

7:45 AM
@AnkitSharma I have not seen it. I will add it to my list.

@steelerfan I do have more specific faves, I guess. Like fave Coen movie (Miller's Crossing) or fave documentary (The Thin Blue Line)
@steelerfan The original is better. Though the US one is OK

@Walt You mean your favorite documentary isn't "I'm Still Here"? ;)

@steelerfan Doc, not mock :P

@Walt i want to go for original too but my sis prefer US one, she don't like reading subtitle :D. I might watch original someday.

@AnkitSharma I don't think there's much dialogue anyway, so that wouldn't be a problem

7:50 AM
@Walt I have always wanted to see The Thin Blue Line. Gheez, I have so many movies to add to my watchlist now.

@Walt Is there any story difference or its same?

@steelerfan There's something that sets it apart from other docos (though I won't spoil what)
@AnkitSharma Not a lot IIRC. It's a pretty faithful adaptation. Which is actually an issue IMO.
@steelerfan And yeah, like Ankit, there are a few genres I'm not really into. Singin' In The Rain might be the only musical I really love (though I like a few others).

@Walt I don't really care for musicals either. I do like Rocky Horror Picture Show, I loved the music in that.

For musical bollywood is enough for me.

@steelerfan Just say your lines, dammit! Stop reaching for lame rhymes
Most of my favorite comedies are many decades old. And most of my favorite dramas aren't even Hollywood. :S

8:00 AM
@Walt Ha! :)

Other easy choices... Hmm. Fave Sci Fi: Twelve Monkeys. Fave Animation: Spirited Away (& maybe Ratatouille).

@Walt Loved Ratatouille. There was just a question about that movie wasn't there?

But drama, comedy, suspense & horror will probably be 5 a piece, at least. I can't choose between them, I can't! Don't make me! Waaaaaaaa
@steelerfan Which I hastened to answer ;)
3
Q: What was the reason Anton Ego lost his job?

Dark ArmyIn Ratatouille Anton Ego writes reviews about the food he was served at the restaurant. He didn't mention rats anywhere in his review, so why did he lose his reputation when rats were found in the kitchen?

@Walt That's right. I forgot that was you, already upvoted earlier today :)

And it's the only one? Grrr. Well, I guess when the script is this good, there's not a lot you can pick on
@steelerfan Thanks, though I can't say I slaved on it ;)

8:09 AM
Thatquestion was not that good either

@Walt I love your answers, I usually learn something new about the movie with them :)

@AnkitSharma It was alright, I guess
@steelerfan Why thanks. Nice of you to even read some of my non-ID ones. There's like 3 of them ;)

@Walt I mean it was not self answered in film?
To me it was.

@Walt When I first discovered this site, and was a new ID asker, you always found the movie I was looking for and were very kind and helpful.

@steelerfan Hey you're no slouch yourself :)

8:15 AM
@Walt Much appreciated. I am learning slowly but surely :)

Going over September posts now for that Favorites post on Meta I never finished
Favorite Horror:
The Thing
The Thing
The Thing
The Thing
The Silence of the Lambs
(Oh, and favorite ironically gross horror comedy: Dead Alive)
Still hard to pick between these 5. But I might go with The Thing
@steelerfan And yours fave movies? Or do you find it hard to narrow it down too

@Walt Agree.Agree.Agree.Agree. And totally Agree! :)

I didn't watched The thing yet, trailer gave me evil dead look. And i disliked Evil dead

@Walt Pretty much anything Christopher Guest does. His are for sure in my top spots.

I didn't watched The thing yet, trailer gave me evil dead look. And i disliked Evil dead

8:26 AM
@steelerfan Though playing fast and loose with the definition of Horror there. There are some suspense films that could be considered horror that are in my top spots. Don't Look Now, The Night of the Hunter, Le salaire de la peur...
@AnkitSharma I liked the first 2 (though they're pretty similar). Many people like the 3rd, but I found it too cartoonish

@Walt Nice! Don't Look Now. That' s the one with Donald Sutherland right?

@Walt I tried evil dead first and remake only and left in middle.

@steelerfan Yep. I could analyze this thing all day

@Walt Wow! Thanks for reminding me of that one. I need to re-watch.

@steelerfan All those fatalistic images, the colors and elements from that traumatic event echoing throughout the film... dai-amn.
And this guy also made The Witches... What an odd resume :S

8:35 AM
@Walt I know! Now, I definitely need to re-watch soon.

@AnkitSharma You mean you only watched the remake? Or the original one and then the remake?

@Walt Tried to watch Original evil dead then left in middle. Then remake but also left in middle.
I didn't like that creepy things and horror comedy look

@AnkitSharma I think the original only picks up half way through...
@AnkitSharma It's pretty inventive, for such a low budget film

I mostly don't go for films before 90s
That flavor is bit different for me

@AnkitSharma You have every right to, but you're missing out ;)

8:46 AM
I started watching Hollywood film in 20s and my taste also developed according to that era maybe

Like I mentioned above, I think comedies were much better in the past. And I'm talking 30s and 40s here.
@AnkitSharma That's a start! :)
(Though to be fair, I mean pure comedies. There are still good comedies, but usually they're tacked on to other genres - sci-fi comedies, horror comedies, dramedies etc.)

I am not much in comedies
Horror , dancing, superhero an unique concept are my primary genre

Dancing -> Bollywood? Or Step Up and such

Step up
In Bollywood i like non dancing and less musical one. Follow few actor/director only.

@AnkitSharma I hear ya. I try not to discriminate, but there are a couple of genres I steer clear of. Hollywood's idea of romantic movies and rom-coms are usually abysmal. Esp. in recent years
@AnkitSharma Aren't they repetitive though

8:58 AM
I don't hate romantic one but only with some addon flavors like Time traveler 's wife etc
@Walt Yeah, all are same but i like dancing film ( i can't dance), so i am partial towards them.

@AnkitSharma Well, gotta love the classics :P

I like old Punjabi( indian regional) films but nowdays they are too much masala films

"New York Press film critic Armond White considered it to be "superb" and Roger Ebert gave the film a three-star rating." Wot O-o

@Walt critics are crazy
I always wanted to be a critics but never tried enough

@AnkitSharma more like critics are easily bribed

9:02 AM
Current bollywood critic lot is almost sold

@AnkitSharma Do you also have phantom critics over there?

Don't know this term
I think no

@AnkitSharma Fake critics fabricated by studios

ohhhh

I don't know if that's the term, anyway. I think I just made it up ;)

9:06 AM
We have asshole Taran Adarsh and thetn every news channel have their own critics
Few are good too but wikipedia only consider bad ones

@AnkitSharma Easier these days, you just stick on some website's name as there are thousands of them

I don;t go for critics before watching film, only listen to them after it and compare with my thoughts.

"A thrill ride!" --ToeJamHorrorBlog.com
@AnkitSharma Ditto, I check them out on review aggregators from time to time, but don't like to read entire reviews beforehand. I even try to avoid trailers sometimes

I go for trailers mostly but i think i need to change that habit because this days trailer sucks, they show what film is not about or show everything in trailer itself.

@AnkitSharma Indeed, though IMO they were always like that

9:13 AM
Terminator trailer (salvation and latest one) Showed almost the near ending twists in trailer

@AnkitSharma Probably out of desperation

Elysium trailer looked more action packed then it was in trailer but i liked it at the end.

Went through most of the 'trailers lie' page on Tropes once, it was quite amusing

And then trailer have scenes which didn't make into film

@AnkitSharma Well sometimes they can't wait for the final edit I guess

9:28 AM
Yeah, even India have this kind of trailer too when censerboard forced to make them remove some scenes. But they are quite less as compare to hollywood

@AnkitSharma You somehow weaseled out of that fave movies discussion! Fess up, or I'll just have to conclude that they're Step Up, Electric Boogaloo and half of Evil Dead :P

Q: What does the Native American Chief symbol mean in the Hackers movie from 1995?

moonnoonQuestion: What does the Native American Chief symbol mean in the Hackers movie from 1995? How is it connected with hacker culture? Or is it just a coincidence? Background: I'm a little bit confused. When you are watching the Hackers movie you can see a that a symbol of a Native American ...

@Walt This weekend, I promise.
Well, The Martian was a really good movie. But as the trailer suggested there was quite a bunch of stuff going on on earth and while that was also interesting, it certainly distracted a bit from Mark's endeavours and the movie didn't provide as much detail on how Mark actually survived on Mars as I might have expected. The movie certainly didn't have the isolating feeling of All Is Lost or the grandeur and emotional impact of Interstellar...
...I wouldn't say it was a disappointment because it was a very good movie, but maybe it wasn't exactly the movie I expected and that made it the 2nd most anticipated movie of the year for me. It just wasn't "All Is Lost on Mars" but it apparently didn't want to be a pure survivial movie anyway.

@NapoleonWilson Glad you stayed awake ;) I went and saw "Crimson Peak" It sucked. I wish I would have slept through that one.

@steelerfan Well, I was looking forward to that, too. People already said it wasn't good. But some good old classic gothic would be interesting I thought. And I know I can't trust the internet anyway.

@NapoleonWilson The only good thing about the movie was Tom Hiddleston. It is not a "scary" movie in my opinion.

Well, it doesn't have to be. I don't watch movies to be scared.

11:46 AM
I know, but I went in thinking that it was going to be a thriller/horror movie and it wasn't in my opinion, that is why I was disappointed.

Q: Why is she a half-alien?

Vedran ŠegoEither I've missed it, or it was not explained: why is Lexi in Falling Skies a half-alien? The only explanations I have are "just because", "due to the eye bug", and "because of something unmentioned that happened to Tom on the alien ship", but all of these seem weak and Googling didn't really h...

@Walt I've only seen the original one yet. I think I have the Chloe Moretz remake lying around on my DVR somewhere, though.
@Walt Oh, you just need enough people to not get the story despite it being good and coherent. This also makes answering rather easy. Best example on the site being Interstellar. ;-)
@Walt Well, they're the only ones I read, so they're easy to appreciate for me at least. ;-)
@steelerfan Sure.

12:11 PM
@NapoleonWilson Oh, goody. I'll try to complete those Sep favorites, too
@NapoleonWilson Sure, non-ID is definitely seen\appreciated by more people. About 75% of my answers are ID, but 8 of my top 10 highest scored answers are non-ID.

@Walt lol

Paradoxically, though, the actually good (or let's say non-bad) ID questions don't gather 7 friggin' upvotes but only the awful ones, because, well, you know, they don't need friggin' sympathy upvotes as all the evil downvoters in their endeavour to scare away all those poor new users magically don't feel it necessary to downvote questions that aren't bad.

@NapoleonWilson I already told in this room the Martian wan not only about a sole survivor film but also show the other side. To be precise 50% of film is where he was not in the scene.

@NapoleonWilson I think there were plenty of good ID questions with more that 7 upvotes, but it's probably because we're so grateful when an ID OP actually gives a crap.
@NapoleonWilson Wow, up to 7 now, huh? I don't get this place sometimes

@steelerfan I never watched any film which scared me, none of them are scary for me but i like few.

12:22 PM
@AnkitSharma The only movies that have scared me are "American Werewolf in London" bc I saw it when I was way too young and it traumatized me and "The Strangers" because that scenario could easily happen where I live out in the middle of nowhere.

@steelerfan didn't watched any of them yet
I liked few J horror remake like grudge and shutter

@AnkitSharma Well, you have to watch American Werewolf in London. It is a classic. The Strangers is pretty good, just because the scenario could actually happen, so it makes it more real and scary.

@steelerfan I was brought up on plenty of horror films, among other genres (child services were somehow not alerted), so I guess I built up an immunity
@steelerfan I remember the amazing effects in AWiL, but TBH not much else

@Walt I WISH child services were alerted before I watched American Werewolf in London. That werewolf scared the crap out of me. I wouldn't go outside after dark for years. Rick Baker definitely deserved the oscar for best make-up for that one!

@Walt Did you like any non 80s horror film

12:28 PM
@steelerfan Yikes. Must've been compunded if there were dogs in the area :O
@AnkitSharma I think I mentioned some today, actually
And hey, Alien is 1979 :P

@Walt Yes, I still get freaked out watching the first part of the movie when they are on the moors. Jesus that freaks me out! Of course, I had to watch the movie when my dad wasn't around even though I was warned not to. Why didn't I listen to my father? The movie still scares me.

@Walt doesn't that make it 70s

@AnkitSharma Oh, I thought you meant before the 80s

@Walt I mean after 80s, movie after i born.

@AnkitSharma Sure. Horror is kinda timeless

12:33 PM
@AnkitSharma Horror was in it's heyday in the 80's.

I did liked exorcist from 70s

@AnkitSharma What about the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre"? 1974 I believe.

@steelerfan I was encouraged to watch them. And was sometimes snuck into theaters showing them. Seriously, social services totally dropped the ball

@steelerfan didn't watched, old slasher film were too creepy to me.

@AnkitSharma Ah, so you are scared of something :)

12:36 PM
@AnkitSharma Another classic!

@Walt no......
Creepy means evil dead kind of......

@AnkitSharma Forget Jason, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger. Leatherface had class. He always wore a tie :)

@steelerfan :) And such table manners

@steelerfan I liked Freddy but his later films were too comedic and remake was good except ending
@Walt hahahahha....

@AnkitSharma Mainly liked the 1st one, and maybe 3 and 4

12:38 PM
@AnkitSharma Nightmare 2 was pretty much all comedy.

My first name on SE was jason voorhees

@steelerfan Wasn't it all a big coming out metaphor

Dream warrior etc was too shitty

@Walt I know. It had to be.

I don't like when they mix forced comedy with horror.
Like bride of chucky and seed of chucky

12:40 PM
@AnkitSharma I don't think they intended it to be funny, but everyone pretty much thought it was a joke.

@AnkitSharma In other words, comical horror < horror comedy

@Walt It was already 7 when you talked about it, you just didn't notice because of the 3 more reasonable users.

@AnkitSharma Yeah, the Chucky movies were probably intended more for humor.

@NapoleonWilson No, I think it was 4 at the time

@steelerfan I liked the latest one and the first one. 2nd , 3rd were not bad either. rest too were too much to digest for even a comedy

12:42 PM
@AnkitSharma Agreed. Especially when Chucky impregnated his "bride" God, that was hard to watch.

I did find the Spielberg/Cruise version of War of the Worlds genuinely scary in its whole atmosphere when watching it in the cinema. (And while I'm not scared by it anymore, I still appreciate it for its bottom-up perspective.)

@NapoleonWilson That film also the reason for me to ignore Cruise

@AnkitSharma But I admit I'm not that big a horror fan these days. I still watch them from time to time, but have a hard time thinking of recent horror films I really liked

Good buildup the........shamlam

@NapoleonWilson Yeah, I usually don't watch Tom Cruise movies. I only liked him in A Few Good Men.

12:44 PM
@Walt From recent Mama and conjuring was good.

There are few horror films I'd actually find scary. This is why I'm not the biggest horror enthusiast. I watch movies for an exciting story, not necessarily a scary one. But of recent times some really good and admittedly scary films wrere maybe The Babadook or Oculus.
@steelerfan WUUUT? I love this guy. Super sympathetic everytime.

@steelerfan That film was much fun

@AnkitSharma Babadook was nice too. And................. I dunno, Timecrimes? That's like 7 years back

But I see that there seem to be quite a bunch of people who don't like him, which I never understood.

@NapoleonWilson Sorry :(

12:45 PM
@Walt Yeah i did liked babadook too but don't know Timecrimes
@NapoleonWilson I loved his interview LOL

@steelerfan Not even then, over here :P

There are also many people who hate him for his private endeavours, especially here in Germany where Scientology is even less well-respected and seen as the evil and mad sect it is. But I couldn't care less about this stuff when I'm watching one of his movies.

@AnkitSharma It's pretty good. Horror+time travel. Spanish, I think.

@NapoleonWilson a lot of people in the US get turned off by him because of his Scientology beliefs, which has nothing to do with his acting abilities. I have just never liked him in any other movies, it is nothing about his personal life for me.

@steelerfan me too, i only liked A Few Good Men from his movies.

12:48 PM
@NapoleonWilson Yeah, I didn't like him as an actor long before all that stuff in his private life was revealed. To me he was just some 'pretty boy' with 1-2 expressions. I'll admit he improved slightly as he grew older, but not by much

I don't care for Scientology shit but his movie never looked fresh to me

@AnkitSharma Yeah, I loved his character. He actually had humor. I love that movie.

@steelerfan Your Werewolf experience actually was the case for me with Aliens (not even the actually scarier 1st one). I watched it secretly as a kid and it scared me for years.

@steelerfan Maybe i liked that film because i liked court room drama film with different stories; Like my sister's keeper, exorcism of emily rose etc.

@NapoleonWilson Ha! We should have listened to our parents! Of course, when they tell you not to do something, you have to do it anyway out of sheer curiosity :)

12:50 PM
@steelerfan I think that original Chainsaw thing was just on TV recently (allegedly for the very first time), but I didn't get around to watching it.

@AnkitSharma Agreed. One of the best court room dramas ever.

@NapoleonWilson 2 is cool too IIRC

@NapoleonWilson You need to watch next time. Classic movie. It still holds up after over 40 years.

@steelerfan That's what you get when the entire crew is high on acid

@Walt Of course! It was the 70's. That's what makes it so awesome :)

12:54 PM
@Walt Timecrime looks similar in concept to The one from trailer will less kungfu/karate action and serious angel

@steelerfan Still, I wouldn't recommend it. ;) I think the lead actress was quite traumatized
@AnkitSharma Huh?!
Er, are you sure you're looking at the right movie ;)

@Walt speaking of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, my sister and I went out to dinner and she ordered apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese on top. The waiter told us that it was called a "Ed Gein" because that is the only thing that Ed Gein requested from police after he was arrested. Have you ever heard of that?

@Walt I though it was about parallel universe like the one? or i am wrong?

@AnkitSharma No, not really

ok, i think i may like it. Added in list

12:57 PM
It's a combination of a slasher movie (kinda) with time travel
@steelerfan Hopefully you got the hell out of there

@Walt I know, I didn't know who was crazier, the waiter or my sister. It was pretty disturbing that they would name a dessert that AND that the waiter knew so much info about that particular serial killer.

I always calculate my waiter's knowledge of serial killers into the tip
