Same room, huh?
Well, it starts again. Hopefully with a better ending then the last this time.
All the best, Embedded Systems!

Hey all, ready to start again??

6:32 PM
Reboots!
Best boots a man can get.
^.^

I hope this stack exchange takes off. I'm an embedded systems major and I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions this fall. Sure could have used this last year.

@Rocks25 Well, glad to have you at least! Another important step for us.
I'm not going to stay for very long but I'd like to see it at least enter public beta safe and sound.

7:06 PM
I'll try and be here to be mopey in chat and helpful elsewhere ;-)

Dom
7:19 PM
Maybe we should cook up a better name for our chat room then Embedded Systems

@Dom Just thinking of that. How about "General Purpose I/O"?

Q: What should we name our chat room?

UnihedronThe default is inherited from the previous chat room Embedded Systems. To signify a good start for the site, let's come up with a new name!

... Quiet.
Okay, this is awkward.

@Unihedron Hah! I posted a duplicate just a few seconds later. :)

How did you get around the 30 char minimum?
Just saw the comment

7:39 PM
Yeah, let's clean up our comments now.

Hmmm, I'm inspirationless right now. I just added a load of "void PlaceholderForFluff(void){}" calls to my code because the person doing the verification in the morning complained my code is too efficient for a prototype
So that took all my creativity

Dom
room topic changed to Embedded Systems: General discussion for embedded.stackexchange.com (no tags)
I removed the defunct description and the A51 link for obvious reasons.

Whaddayaknow, I cooked one up

8:08 PM
Heyho, what about a nice, more recognizable icon that doesn't blend in with popular OS colours? How do we arrange for one of those? Special for Browser-Tab-Hogs like me.

@Asmyldof wait 6–8 years for the site to graduate

Guess I'm going to have to keep the tabs in a fixed place and just Sharpie my screen then

8:25 PM
@dom Then can you change it to "/dev/null" now? :-D

Dom
@Asmyldof If I wanted to.

or (void)
I'm sorry, I'm procrastinating
I shouldn't, but..

8:55 PM
@Gilles is there a way for us to burninate tags before they get used? For example the tag?

@DavidFreitag Yes: if a tag is used on 0 question, there is a very simple method to remove it from all questions. But if you want it to be additionally blacklisted, then only Stack Exchange staff can do that, and they won't do it unless people actually do use the tag.

@Gilles It doesn't need to be blacklisted, but right now there are 0 questions, and I just can't see a point of a tag.

@Asmyldof ^^^ my chat tabs. Yes, that's a lot of similar names, like FOS next to EOS, and EMS not to be confused with EM
It could be worse, Cryptography and Code Review had to fight for CR
after much lobbying Crypto got Cr

@Gilles I was going to say, couldn't they just settle on Cr and CR

I'd go the other way entirely and go for LF to replace CR, but I guess that's something already as well

9:04 PM
@Asmyldof LOL! No, there's only L, LH and LNG. L is a relatively rare initial for site names it seems.

I like the EE.SE one, since it's a chip, like me.

EE is graduated, i.e. they've existed long enough to have their own design

Well, next one to fight for CR OR Cr will just get LF forced down their throat
@Gilles I know
Or alternatively Cr could be replaced by Sb, Sn, V, Mo or Mn, depending on what properties are most dominant
frown I think

Q: Is this the place for asking for debugging help with embeddedsystems related code?

ZaibisIf I have troubble debugging my code (i.e. some weeks ago I had trouble debugging a programm that was had an register which was overwritten whenever it was read. Finally figgured out the debuggers watch itself directly accessed the register just blocking my programm) and want to ask a question ab...

Q: How strict should we be with recommendation questions?

Adam DavisWhere should we draw the line between questions asking for a recommendations that could end up with hundreds of "correct" answers, and recommendation questions where there really is only one possible answer? For example, one part of this question asks for an RTOS suggestion for audio DSP applica...

I've added bots that feed meta questions and questions with a bounty
There's a bot that posts questions tagged [embedded] from Unix & Linux, still running from last year

9:56 PM
Could you install a bot that does my work so that I can troll Stack Exchange?
Or, let's be honest, "while I troll..."

@Asmyldof Hey, don't knock it! Once at work I was stumped on something, so I googled, and I found a post on SE that told me what I needed to know. Cool, I learnt something. Upvote. Whaddyamean I can't vote for my own post?

@Gilles LOL

Of course, there's still, like 99.99% of my SE answers that will never be useful at work. But 0.01% ≠ 0.
probably closer to 0.2% actually

You have just overflowed the counter....
Anyway, my work is waaaay too awesome to be stackable
Well, actually, they are stackable, since they have mounting holes...
>.<
Midnight, people....
Maybe I should go home for a nap

10:30 PM
@Asmyldof Naps are overrated.

I know, but I think when I start gibbering tomorrow after not going home at all, I might be forced to take a day off and I hate days off
So, in a beta there's no sorting for new, as I see it. Me correctness?

@Asmyldof all sites have the same interface except SO

Right, fixt
Was on the wrong interfacypage
The soft baby blue is throwing me off

are you looking for questions sorted by post date? That's on the questions page (click on Questions), it isn't available on the front page

Looking to hire: Mega Super Awesome embedded engineer for Atmel ARM dual cores to fix all my bugs while I take a small nap. Rate: No more than 2 cookies per hour.

10:39 PM
@Asmyldof Switch to donuts and you might just have yourself a deal.

Have no donuts :/

Q: The Real Essential Questions of Every Beta

AsheeshRThe blog post Seven Essential Meta Questions of Every Beta gets linked to prominently from every beta's meta. However, this blog post is somewhat inaccurate and misdirects new users. In almost every beta, the site design question, for example, gets asked and undergoes a fair bit of discussion eve...

To follow the advice in The 7 Essential Meta Questions of Every Beta, I'd like to discuss the documentation for this site. What should our list of go and no-go question topics contain?

11:08 PM
Did anyone get any upholder badge for the first private beta? I feel I fulfilled my commitment. Does the site need to go public to fulfill a commtiment?

11:20 PM
@ScottSeidman you mean Area 51 badges? I don't think you get any for a site that doesn't go public
I have the Upholder badge, but apparently you only get it once, I got it for the first private beta I ever participated in

11:45 PM
@Gilles Can I hold yours for a bit?
