@ParanoidPanda give me some time, I'am on mobile again :)

user136984
Ok :)

It never did that to me... With unity and LightDM.
ARGH!
Damn router timed out again.
It's breaking from the thunderstorm Thursday morning...

Q: How do I run Nautilus as administrator, and go to the next command line?

Elen SilaI'm on Ubuntu 14.04. Here is what happens when I run "nautilus /". The program runs, and the terminal goes to the next command line. Perfect. But here is what happens when I try to run "sudo nautilus /". The program runs, but an error message displays, and the terminal does not go to the next c...

20 CV done for today.
I did not review a single thing for months...
Now I know again why.

@ParanoidPanda no, this bug doesn't affects me.

user136984
@A.B.: So Tracker does not index file contents on your machine and then log all of the data to syslog?

Any boontoo gurus in here willing to help me with something?

@ParanoidPanda My tracker is running, but I have no log entries in syslog

@DJMcMayhem Depends on the something... What's up?

user136984
@A.B.: Oh... That's strange... Have you changed anything to make it so that it does not log anything or are you just lucky? Or me just unlucky...? :D Do you find that your one indexes file contents? As it could just be that it hasn't logged anything new in your syslog since its last rotation (that is about Tracker, as it really should log something if it is doing something, so perhaps the answer is on your one that it is currently not doing anything)...

@ByteCommander I'm trying to copy my installation on to an SSD, but am having issues with Gparted.

@ParanoidPanda I'll keep an eye on.

5:23 PM
I'm following this answer askubuntu.com/a/151475/289381 but the "paste" option is grayed out.
I should probably just post it as a full question.

@ParanoidPanda I have nothing changed.

user136984
@A.B.: Then it is likely that you are just looking at the wrong time, because it is a fact that it does index files, and their contents, even if you are looking at your web mail, it will index the contents of your emails you open, and then put all of that information into your syslog. Keep an eye on it, you should see something, I only noticed it though because of my Host Intrusion Detection System.

@DJMcMayhem You need free unpartitioned space on the destination disk that is bigger (at least equal size) than the partition you want to copy. And did you select the source partition before and click on "copy" in its context menu?

Yes, I did.
So my hard disk is 1 TB, and my SSD is 500 GB, but the hard disk is only using 200 GB at the moment.
Do I need to make a new partition in the hard disk to be able to do that?

user136984
Does anyone have any idea about this by the way? :)

Q: Steam hash sum mismatch and invalid file format errors

Paranoid PandaI have Steam Beta installed, and when I just ran: sudo apt-get update I got the following output: Ign http://security.ubuntu.com vivid-security InRelease Ign http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com vivid InRelease ...

199/200 I need one more point o_O
Thx =)

@DJMcMayhem I don't understand... What is the partition size you want to copy and how is the partition structure of the destination disk? It should be unpartitioned or have at least enough unpartitioned space. This is not the same as partitioned, but formatted.

Thanks @ByteCommander I just figured it out.
I resized the main partition on the hard disk to make it small enough to copy onto the SSD.

@A.B. Done!
=)

@Terrance =) thx

5:41 PM
@A.B. You're very welcome! =)

@DJMcMayhem You're welcome.
That was an easy answer...

user136984
@Terrance: Do you find that you get this bug with Tracker too by the way? :)

@ParanoidPanda I am not seeing that on my system. I installed the Ubuntu GNOME 14.04. Do you have the Android studio installed?

user136984
I don't think so...

user136984
Nope...

user136984
5:51 PM
Unless it doesn't have Android in the name as nothing comes up under that in the search...

Just what I was reading in the long paragraph about Android SDK and earlier SDK

user136984
Nope, I don't think that I have that installed...

@ParanoidPanda do you have a script for the OS Information in your questions?

user136984
@A.B.: No, but perhaps I should make one... It might make it a lot more efficient to get that information...

@ParanoidPanda If you want really nice insight into log files, try Splunk (www.splunk.com). They have a free version that allows up to 500MB of logs per day.
The enterprise edition is REALLY expensive

6:04 PM
@ParanoidPanda The next one with your apt problem ;)

user136984
6:33 PM
Is anyone else running Shumway and finding that this video is giving this error?: :)

user136984

@ParanoidPanda I just tried, and it works fine.
Like your choice :)

@ParanoidPanda Works =) Great :P

@ParanoidPanda Blocked here. =(

7:15 PM
@ParanoidPanda blocked...
@ParanoidPanda anyway youtube should just be using the built-in html5, no need for shumway

@ParanoidPanda Works here with Shumway and disabled Flash. And YT is not set to use HTML5.

user136984
@Mateo @Terrance: Why is it not working?

:/

@Mateo blocked in this country

yep

user136984
7:21 PM
@Mateo: You wouldn't consider this a security bug would you?

@ParanoidPanda That was meant for you. Sorry @Mateo

no...

user136984
Good

user136984
@Mateo: I didn't think so either, but as it could sort of be exploited in a way... I just thought I would ask as there is a different way of having security bugs... :)

wow, so uh... what would placing a file there accomplish anyway?

user136984
7:24 PM
@Mateo: Well, because it is hard to see if there is a file there, attackers could put the malware there, or whatever they want to hide, and probably nobody would ever notice.

it is just another folder to the computer, not like scanning is exempt from there

user136984
@Mateo No, of course you can scan, but many Linux users believe that no AV is necessary, and it is even written in the official documentation that you should definitely not get one.

right...

no you shouldn't.
I don't believe there is a single useful AV out for Linux anyway.

just saying there are way better ways to hide something then placing something on the desktop folder, visible on the desktop or not

7:30 PM
Most attacks will likely be 0 day and undetectable by standard AV.
but maybe I'm missing some amazing Linux AV that would actually be useful..

user136984
@Mateo: Of course, but it could still be something which is exploited.

user136984
Even though it would be slightly silly...

user136984
It is a possibility...

@ParanoidPanda so could putting something in the videos folder I never use, should that be created by default?

user136984
What created by default?

7:31 PM
the videos folder...
I can't see that on my desktop

user136984
The videos folder is created by default...

user136984
Isn't it?

user136984
I don't believe that you video folder is located on your desktop...

user136984
But I guess if you moved it there maybe...

@ParanoidPanda yes, but it is a security exploit if you don't use it or see it... according to your logic
;P

7:33 PM
So what nix AV *do you use @ParanoidPanda?

user136984
@Mateo: I don't understand... But I do see the videos folder, and it is not located on my desktop, but instead in my home dir...

and so is the desktop folder... it is no more a security threat than my unused videos folder

user136984
But you can see the video folder can't you...?

user136984
Or are you saying that you just don't check it very regularly?

user136984
@Seth: I use Clamav. I found it very helpful when detecting phishing scripts in my browser's cache. I mostly use it though for its heuristics capabilities. I also use rkhunter and a Host Intrusion Detection System. And although the last two are not really AVs, they and some other tools mean that I don't get infected very often, well not that I know of anyway... :D

user136984
7:39 PM
Although when just normally scanning files I don't really find ClamAV that useful... I prefer to upload them to VirusTotal.

VirusTotal probably won't recognize Linux viruses, if you do happen to find one..
HIDS is useful though.

user136984
@Seth: Why wouldn't VirusTotal recognize one? What about its heuristics engines?

@ParanoidPanda ^^

user136984
@Mateo: I assume you don't use Gnome Shell though...?

VirusTotal just passes files through existing AV solutions, many of which (if not all) don't support Linux.

7:44 PM
no... I assume we are talking about unity in here

user136984
No, as the bug report was about gnome-tweak-tool, I believe it to be quit clear that we are talking about Gnome Shell.

user136984
So it will be different on Unity.

user136984
Is there a keyboard shortcut to start Nautilus by the way? :)

you can still use gnome-tweak-tool for unity
I install it all the time

user136984
Ok, well I was talking about Gnome anyway...

user136984
7:48 PM
Why don't you use unity-tweak-tool for Unity instead of gnome-tweak-tool?

I have them both, gnome tweak tool has the switch for desktop icons, so i install it for that
still see desktop in nautilus

user136984
Well, on Ubuntu Gnome, I don't see it in Nautilus even when that switch is enabled...

added info to your bug ;)

user136984
@Mateo: Ok, thank you. :)

Q: Why no swap partitions on SSD drives?

Byte CommanderI often read that one should not place swap partitions on a SSD drive, as this may harm the device. Is this true? Can you please explain the reason to me? Because I otherwise would have thought that placing swap on an SSD is the best choice, as it's much faster than HDDs and therefore swapping R...

Thanks, I'm leaving. A thunderstorm is going to pass by... :-/

huh, refrences
@ByteCommander you could store more steam games on it?

@ByteCommander references are always so biased, never really reliable... we can not trust Samsung even if they swear their drives are the best. ;)

ah man, look what I just saw: developers.google.com/feed/terms < the api for my old scope is deprecated - they could just turn it off anytime...

yikes!
Better get to fixing it :/

don't think there is a new json one...

11:39 PM
blah, having a hard time adding another api into the same scope, maybe I should make one seperate for returning wikipedia images, then try and smash them together
