[retailcoder/Rubberduck] Hosch250 pushed commit dc14bedc to next: Fix Reorder Params bug

@RubberDuck I feel that it went well :)

@RubberDuck Wasn't Clippy awesome?

[retailcoder/Rubberduck] Hosch250 pushed commit df8b637d to next: Fix UI bug in Reorder Params

OK, now to get unit tests working.
I need to figure out how to mock a parse result.

Surprised nobody has done that ^^ before ;)

6:22 PM
This is like soooooo our codebase

[retailcoder/Rubberduck] Hosch250 deleted branch RefactorRefactorings
[retailcoder/Rubberduck] Hosch250 deleted branch KeypressHandler

Not sure if we need FindAllImplementations anymore either - that has been done for a while.

@Duga You refactored the refactorings?!

@skiwi Of course.
We inspect inspections too.
There is one needing inspection right now.
Oh, and we test tests.
The unit tests are broken ATM.

But do you test the tests of the tests?
And who tests the tests of the tests of the tests?

6:37 PM
Not sure if we have unit tests for them, I believe so.
We don't have unit tests for unit tests, AFAIK - that just isn't done.

> Quis testodiet ipsos testodes?

@Phrancis Great!
Happy to hear that! Hope it works out for you.

Yes, that makes two of us :)

@Hosch250 IIRC we have unit tests for the unit testing API / AssertClass

Oh.
I was thinking of unit tests for the unit tests we run to make sure RD is working.
And interestingly enough, Excel stopped crashing for me in debug mode.
Maybe you better pull my refactoring refactorings and see it is working for you.
@Mat'sMug This is interesting news.
You know how adding a test module doesn't work?

6:46 PM
it does

No it doesn't.

yes it does. on my build.

I'm running from Next, and it is not working.

dammit

I have all the updates too.

6:47 PM
so, what about it?

It never did work for me.
Here is the error:
-		$exception	{System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800A0030): Error in loading DLL

Yeah. There's at least some coverage of the Unit Tests. I'm sure of it.
So, you guys want to hear a good joke?
They let me go because I'm not allowed to telecommute anymore, right?
Sooo........
My entire team is in Pennsylvania.
2
Our new boss works in Massachusetts.
3
I just now found this out.

This is the LoC it crashes on:
project.EnsureReferenceToAddInLibrary();

Oh!
Did I forget to update that?

Apparently.

6:51 PM
Actually... I'm not sure we want to keep it if we can keep it split up.
Hmm..

@Hosch250 did you remove the post-build event that copied the .tlb to the Rubberduck output directory by any chance?

I don't have any post-build events.

then you don't have Rubberduck.UnitTesting.tlb in the output dir, that's why it's blowing up there
the problem isn't with that

Ohhh.
Dumb old me.

I did forget, but Mug fixed it. github.com/retailcoder/Rubberduck/commit/…

6:53 PM
the problem is that when the .tlb is there and referenced, it's not registered correctly and calling Assert.Anything blows up

Thanks Mug!

Want to send me your pre/post build events?

was just an xcopy /y

Just xcopy /y?
Nothing else, no arguments or anything?

15 hours ago, by Hosch250
> Error 10 The command "xcopy /y C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\Rubberduck.UnitTesting\bin\Debug\Rubberduck.UnitTestin‌g.tlb C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoder.VBE\bin\Debug\" exited with code 4.

6:54 PM
OK.

use macros, not hard-coded paths though
but it won't work.
I mean, creating the modules and adding refs will work, but AssertClass won't be usable

Just copy/paste that into the event thing?

52 secs ago, by Mat's Mug
use macros, not hard-coded paths though

Yeah, I don't know what you mean by macros, though.
Like {username}?

$(ProjectDir)

6:56 PM
OK.

Not sure if that's exactly right...

there's a macro helper...

xcopy /y $(ProjectDir)bin\Debug\Rubberduck.UnitTestin‌g.tlb $(ProjectDir)bin\Debug\
Like that?
Or, only to the level of the .sln file?

yeah like that
wait no
(out of memory) `$(TargetDir)Rubberduck.UnitTesting.tlb $(SolutionDir)\RetailCoderVBE\Rubberduck\bin\Debug`

7:04 PM
Now I just have 2 errors.
Error	1	The command "xcopy /y C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\Rubberduck.UnitTesting\bin\Debug\Rubberduck.UnitTesting.tlb C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoder.VBE\bin\Debug\" exited with code 4.
Error	28	The command "xcopy /y C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoder.VBE\bin\Debug\Rubberduck.UnitTesting.tlb C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoderVBE\Rubberduck\bin\Debug" exited with code 4.
And yes, I'm running as admin.

A: Command copy exited with code 4 when building - Visual Studio restart solves it

Preet SanghaI've invariably found this to be a file locking issue. Code 4 is Cannot Access File. One partial solution I found is to use the /C option for xcopy (which continues on error). Not really a solution but mostly it has stopped my builds from failing. Another solution which only works on 32 bit is t...

it's RetailCoder.VBE, not RetailCoderVBE

Error	28	The command "xcopy /y C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoder.VBE\bin\Debug\Rubberduck.UnitTesting.tlb C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoder.VBE\Rubberduck\bin\Debug" exited with code 4.
Hmm, this is what someone else is using:
xcopy "$(SolutionDir)Solution Items\References\*.dll" "$(TargetDir)" /Y

he's not copying a .tlb.....
you want to copy the .tlb from the Rubberduck.UnitTesting output folder to the Rubberduck output folder.

I meant he has the /y after the command.
> Code 4 is Cannot Access File.

doesn't matter

7:10 PM
OK.

are you putting it in post build or pre build?

Post.

is the .tlb file there?

Which one?

2 mins ago, by Mat's Mug
you want to copy the .tlb from the Rubberduck.UnitTesting output folder to the Rubberduck output folder.
is it in the source folder?

7:11 PM
Yeah, the .tlb is in this location, if this is the right location:
C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\Rubberduck.UnitTesting\bin\Debug

use the macro helper to use whatever the correct $(shortcut) gives you the correct path......

It is NOT in this one, which is the source of the second error:
C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoder.VBE\bin\Debug

it's not there because xcopy didn't succeed copying it!!

OK, this is where things stand now.
The first xcopy is still failing:
Error	11	The command "xcopy /y C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\Rubberduck.UnitTesting\bin\Debug\Rubberduck.UnitTesting.tlb C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoder.VBE\bin\Debug\" exited with code 4.
Since adding the post-build command, I am getting this error too:
Error	52	The command "xcopy /y C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoder.VBE\bin\Debug\Rubberduck.UnitTesting.tlb C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoder.VBE\Rubberduck\bin\Debug" exited with code 4.

@RubberDuck Ouch, didn't know that had happened yet

7:19 PM
Yeah. It's all kinds of foobarred.
I think it's time to talk to a lawyer.

^^^

Me too, except do you really want to work for them after this?

No. No I don't.

no, but you can get punitive damage /repair for the stress and all

And the discriminatory treatment.

7:21 PM
I think you have a case

Just don't let your case get into Chancery.

I mean, what's the difference between working from home, and leading a team from 800 miles away?

@Mat'sMug Why am I trying to copy into /Rubberduck when that directory doesn't exist?

what I gave you was out of memory... you're the one in front of your monitor!

Well, I don't know what the directories should be!
I suppose this can wait until later.
I'm going to take my dog on a walk.

7:25 PM
the .tlb from the output of the UnitTesting project needs to be copied into the output of the Rubberduck project (the main one that's bold, that launches Excel)

Want to assign me to something?
OK.

but that won't fix the main problem with unit testing

Yes, that appears as Rubberduck in VS, but I don't have a Rubberduck folder.

@Mat'sMug Ohhhhhh. Yeahh. That's gonna make the installer fun, isn't it?

right-click the bin folder, "show in Windows Explorer"
@RubberDuck well, AFAICT it's not working.
we can't register a .tlb in one place and move it elsewhere and expect it to work I think

7:26 PM
When I open "Rubberduck" in the File Explorer, it opens to "Retailcoder.VBE"

I know. I know. Trying to find the time. Should be able to at least look tonight.

I think we need to fold UnitTesting back into Rubberduck
@Hosch250 the \bin\debug folder is your target

OK.

I hope not, but you might be right.

And the first one is where it is, and the second where it should be?
Or vice-versa?

7:30 PM
xcopy /y source target

Error	1	The command "xcopy /y C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\Rubberduck.UnitTesting\bin\Debug\Rubberduck.UnitTesting.tlb C:\Users\hosch\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\MattsDuckie\RetailCoder.VBE\bin\Debug\" exited with code 4.
Down to just one error again.
The original one.
This is what I have:
xcopy /y "$(SolutionDir)Rubberduck.UnitTesting\bin\Debug\Rubberduck.UnitTesting.tlb" "$(TargetDir)"
It seems the file is locked by another process or something.
> Code 4 is Cannot Access File.
Or more specifically, from TechNet:
> Initialization error occurred. There is not enough memory or disk space, or you entered an invalid drive name or invalid syntax on the command line.
I tried it with and without the quotes.

@Hosch250 is that post-build of the unit-testing project?

No.
Of Retailcoder.VBE.
AKA Rubberduck.

I had it in the unit testing project...

Oh, yeah:
xcopy /y $(TargetDir)$(ProjectName).tlb $(SolutionDir)RetailCoder.VBE\$(OutDir)
It is still there.

7:38 PM
may I.... facepalm

@ticker, if you can't fix an off by one, you should just step away from the keyboard.

Q: Clearing Pictures Code

proxy156The following code removes all pictures that are placed into Column A. When running the code however I have noticed it runs fairly slow. This will be attached to a command button that will be located in A1, it is important that the deleting of pictures doesnt target this command button. Any sugge...

@RubberDuck Have 10 people fix an off by one, it's now an off by eleven
2

@skiwi It only takes 3 people to get it off by 11 (including the original person who made it off by 1).

@Hosch250 There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who know binary and those who don't.
2

Sure enough.

8:37 PM
It seems we have a new convert. =)

A: Finding and pasting images into a specific cell

PetLahevI'm not sure I can make it faster but hopefully can make it a bit elegant. Let's start First of all, use Option Explicit for all your VBA work. This will make your life easier once you use VBA more. Error handling Great you use it, unfortunately not correctly. Your label will never be hit ErrN...

A: Clearing Pictures Code

PetLahevI forced @proxy156 to start a new question which we discussed here Finding and pasting images into a specific cell I just can't figure out how the formatting works in comments here. The problem here is that it takes a minute to delete about ~3000 pictures Also there was a problem with different ...

At least I can worry less about reviewing VBA now!

I believe Pet Lahev contributed to RD.
Oh, they were here just now.

Yeah. @PetLahev has contributed to RD. =) Happy to see him answering questions on CR!

9:02 PM
@Mat'sMug I fixed it.
xcopy /y "$(TargetDir)$(ProjectName).tlb" "$(SolutionDir)RetailCoder.VBE\$(OutDir)"
It is because I use the default VS folder, which has spaces.
I just had to put quotes in.
And, unit tests are sort-of working now.
They crash when I try to run them.

[retailcoder/Rubberduck] Hosch250 pushed commit 7f0b5221 to next: Add quotes to the build event so it starts working

Yeah, it is crashing on the Assert alright.

Good. Well not good, but yeah, good!
The crash means two things
One is good news: unit testing works
The other is bad news: unit testing COM interop is broken
We would have to reference the tlb in the location it was created.. but we can't do that because we copy local the unit testing dll and basically install it in the same spot as RD itself

I'm not getting what is all going on here.

I tried not registering it for COM interop and running a post-build regasm /tlb on the testing dll in the RD output folder, and that didn't work.

9:13 PM
What if we leave it COM and create it in the location we want to install it to?

That's exactly what I just said I tried yesterday ;-)

Oh.
Are we accessing it wrong?
You said it was working yesterday, what happened?
Actually, was it two days ago?
Seems I need to take my brother on a bike ride, BBL.

card('Heracles') {
    creature "Greek Hero"
    flavor "Ascended hero, Son of Zeus, and divine protector of mankind."
    attack 6
    health 8
    manaCost 25
    sickness 0 // Rush
    // When Heracles comes into play, deal +3 damage randomly to target unit or player.
    afterPlay {
        pick 1 atRandom (
            { damage 3 to "opponent" },
            { damage 3 to 1 random { creature true; owner "opponent" } }
        )
    }
    // Add +1/+1 to all Hero units on the field.
    whilePresent {
^^ This Groovy thing is just crazy!

9:37 PM
> We've already got support for changing a string argument to use nameof() in combination with OnPropertyChanged(), now add an alternative to omit the argument altogether and instead change (if needed) the OnPropertyChanged(string prop)'s signature to OnPropertyChange([CallerMemberName] string prop = null;

@JeroenVannevelLikesToMakeReallyLongNamesForThings

Long names are a sign of intelligence

@JeroenVannevel don't tell SimonAndréForsberg that!

That's why I'm called Jeroen Vannevel dos sànchez di castello du aragon de pompidou
3
Vannevel is my middle name

By the way, how is "Jeroen" pronounced? Is it a bit like "Jerome"? (the English way to say it)

9:45 PM
If you don't speak Dutch, you can't pronounce it
(I'm serious)

lol
Yeh-rrrrwehnn

The only non-Belgian/Dutch person who could pronounce it correctly, studies Dutch at university

But you also speak French and English no? How do you make people say it then? ;)

French and eastern-block people typically say "Jerome"
Americans says "juroooowhn"
Spanish say "jeroéééén" for some reason
As for what I make them say it: whatever they feel like pronounces best for them
It has been bothering me a little
What will happen when I get my nobel prize?
2
I'll need a Dutch-speaking person to announce it to the world

10:03 PM
You need a t-shirt that says "just call me 'master'."
or better
> Don't call me, I'll call you
hmm
maybe not
TTQW

10:51 PM
@JeroenVannevel That looks like a long title explaining where you are from.
Are you descended from the younger son of some royal person from way back when?

I'm part of the Belgian royal family

(If you are, we are probably related - my family can trace itself back to Charlemagne).
Are you serious, or are you pulling my leg?

the ex-queen's full name is Fabiola Fernanda Marie-de-las-Victorias Antonia Adelaida de Mora y Aragón
I'm super serious

Interesting.
I've never looked into our genealogy, but we reportedly came from the Netherlands/Germany area, from the younger sons of nobility.
One of our ancestors' built a big fancy house when they came over that is now a museum, but we've never been to it.

11:07 PM
[retailcoder/Rubberduck] Hosch250 deleted branch FindAllImplementations

Next had all the commits, and it hadn't had any attention for 10 days, so...
(I seriously thought we'd implemented that longer than 10 days ago.)

11:49 PM
@Hosch250 if you're looking for work, it would be nice if the inspection quickfixes involving refactorings would actually use the refactorings, like the one about unused parameters
Try to avoid newing up stuff if possible, pass the dependencies through the inspectionresult constructor ;-)
The inspection itself needs parameterless ctor for now
Ideally would just remove the target without bringing up the UI, too
