you guys keep doing that when I'm looking at other windows =(

Can someone not on mobile (e.g. Not me) make @Ixrec a room owner?

i find it comical that in this question, one guy is disagreeing with everyone but his writing has tons of typos. workplace.stackexchange.com/questions/46834/…

@MichaelT interesting. I have never messed with image processing but it fascinates me.

So I'm going through Sam's Teach Yourself WPF in 24 Hours (a fool's errand if ever there was one) to familiarize myself with WPF for an interview.
In the process, I stumbled across WinRT, which also uses XAML, albeit a slightly stunted version of the WPF XAML. This apparently took place a couple of years ago.
In the meantime, the Blend team has been feverishly re-integrating XAML with Visual Studio proper, because it's too hard to duplicate all features across two products.
While that has been happening, the world has apparently moved away from XAML towards HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript as the preferred platform for building Windows Store apps.
All this in a two year timespan. What gives?
Is WPF dead? Is WinRT dead? Is HTML5 the new hotness for Windows apps? Does the fox really say ring ding ding di dinga ding ding?
Perhaps I should ask this on the main site.

@RobertHarvey That's the title of a bunch of blogs over the past few years. MS as usual publicly says they support everything, please write code for us.

Yeah, but I don't think WinRT is a recognized term anymore, even by Microsoft. They've quietly swept it under the rug, in favor of HTML5, I think? You can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay...

Microsoft have never implemented five technologies to do the same thing, all working in a different way, after charging $200+ a pop for certification exams on deprecated technology (this is a bald-faced lie).

I don't think that WPF is dead, but that windows forms will persist for eternity
WPF is too slow and full of gotchas
WinRT is their dumb app-store thing
it's pointless
always has been

At first I dismissed their app store. But pretty soon all the people (like me) that skipped Windows 8.x will upgrade to 10, and there will be a huge market for selling desktop apps through their store.

App stores cut their teeth on mobile but I think this can really take off

I just wonder if I can sell a C++/wxWidgets app through their store or if I need to drink the MS Kool-Aid.

no way
WinRT is a joke
"or if I need to drink the MS Kool-Aid"
lol as though that's even a question, of course you do

I assumed the worst. Although, Microsoft are supposedly adding Android support to Windows 10.

Visual Studio Community Edition that has all the features of Professional (including the multi-threaded debugger) and explicitly allows open-source development using it unlike the first few "free" editions.

They are coming around on a few things
