Q: Curfew - Is walking on the street in Tokyo legal after 11.00 pm?

JCCMI am soon visiting Japan. I have a son who is not yet 16. Is it okay if I bring him to shop / walk on the street after 11.00 pm, which this period the Japan government disallows teens below 16 to be outside their home?

@japtokal's specialty..

10 hours later…
9:00 PM
I wonder if this is a known bug, I have up-voted several days till I got the message you have no votes left, wait .. hours till you can vote again, and non of those cases the number of votes on my activity page (where they show how many more votes you need to get the 'vox populi' badge) did get up to 40. I get the impression that the site loses count when you up-vote a few times in a short time span, but does keep count when you give it a few minutes after each vote.

9:22 PM
@Willeke there is window time here...

Hi

the count shown in the profile page is cached.. it gets updated every n time..
I forgot how long is the update interval..
give it sometime and you will see..

Yes it does but it seems behind and when I vote fast it does not update all the way

@Willeke there is not way for it to be as you described..
each vote has a record in the database.. so it will match with the next update..

I have been voting all I can, no flags, for at least three days and I did not yet get the badge yet
It is not that I want that badge to urgently but I am used to report bugs when I find them

9:24 PM
which badge exactly?

Vox Populi
Needed voting 40/day

yes, up/down votes only count.. not the flags.

And as 40 is maximum, it should be given when I am out of votes for the day, or there is a good reason or bug
No good reason I see, (no flag, not even down votes)

unless it only count votes for questions only or answers only..
some of these badges are not well explained..

How do you earn this badge?

Used the maximum 40 votes in a day
That is what it says on its label.

9:27 PM
I know.. but it is not really uncommon for some badges to be not well explained..

And when I do a couple of votes in a short time, leave computer and return after hours, the vote count is not up with cast votes
Mostly just one or two off, but that is enough to throw the badge.
The badge (you need so many more) counter did count the Q as well as A votes, (up all, did not do any down)

that's wierd
how many votes you casted today?

8, for counter as well as for the list
I have been out most of the day

try to make it to 40..

But I can do a rapid series to see if I can reproduce.

9:32 PM
you still have 2h30 before midnight Zulu time..
yes..

If a tech wants to have a look, I have done 40 last few days.

i guess there is timezone thing here...
perhaps you done 40 in your day.. according to your timezone..
while the site works on z time
UTC

I get the message 2 hours till you can vote again, or 4 hours if I am going to be/finish early

ok...

I try to keep a few till near the time I sign off for when I see a very good post.

9:34 PM
lets try today and see...
so perhaps the one you kept you didn't use until the UTC day ended..
if you live in the USA east coast that ends early.. around 5pm for you..
ok, you live in the Netherlands according to your profile..
also note, you got the [Suffrage] badge.. and that's for 30 votes..

Yes, but I think I did 40 votes (although there might have been one flag if it) that day I got the suffrage badge
I am working hard on getting those votes today, but my day (personal) is nearly gone. Mostly I start working at 7 AM so midnight is bedtime, tomorrow is a national holiday and I have it off, but it is still late.

9:51 PM
Great advice for NYC visitors.......
@Willeke I have maxed out for today... But it's hard to max out continuously

I have managed on those days I spend part of the day or the evening home, not been home much today
But I have not gotten the badge of having voted 40 yet, which I think I should have.

@Willeke There is only the bronze badge in that category
But I try to reach the max all the time

This one:
Vox Populi
×
How do you earn this badge?

Used the maximum 40 votes in a day
23/40 Go get it
It says I am at 23/40 now
for today

Did you get sufferage?

I have certainly done more than that
Yes, I have sufferage
It is not that I want the badge, it is that I noticed (or thought to) a bug

10:00 PM
Maybe ask in META if you have a timezone glitch

I think it is a vote counter glitch, when I vote a few in a short time it seems to miss one or two
The counter just jumped from 23 to 29

I will look

I guess I have one more hour to do the other 11, or is should have reset just now

Yours shows you need to vote 38 more times

28
the two counters do not match

10:04 PM
yes, 28

I do not see any 28 anywhere

It's what we see

I have been awarded the civic duty badge, 300 in total, which I had forgotten about

I am working on this one
Shared a link to a question that was visited by 1000 unique IP addresses

10:07 PM
Ah, there.

i guess one of them take a real count from the db, while the other from the cache..
the bot that awards the badges works with the cached one i believe..
as it always did, which gets updated on some interval..

By day it says 12 but on last vote I got the 'you have 5 left' message

@Willeke i guess i know what happens :)
if you ever voted the same person more than 4 times in a short period.. these votes will be cancelled and counted...
you won't notice.. the one who got the voted will..

yes, the rollback!

so, i guess you did the 40 votes, some of them were cancelled because of the serial voting.. which made you not get the badge..
i do accept cash and credit cards.. paypal as well..
thank you

10:10 PM
I do tend to vote one person more than once, as I notice that I do like the answers

I upvote all my allies

So can you please explain rollback? is it serious?

the software will initiate a rollback

i upvote any good answer.. even if it was Doc's answer.. even Andrew Grimm i upvoted his questions..

for voting fraud

10:11 PM
not serious.. it is just meant for sock puppet accounts..

@GayotFow you would not mind my voting, as you are on the receiving end, but it might result in a rollback some days

the rollback is done in the same day..

On the main board it is a nightmare
punishment votes are horrible

If not getting badge tonight I will do only low level users votes tomorrow, that way I am not as likely to fall in same problem

And the META effect is even WORSE!!!!

10:14 PM
three more votes to go

@IKeelYou which Andrew Grimm
I want to see it :)

the guy who asks good questions, yet weird..
i like his questions.. most of them..
but me and him, do not have the best relation..
I got banned a few times because of him..

I reached daily limit, vote again in one hour ;)
By the way, I have up-voted both your answers a few times, names do stand out to me by now.

Andrew Grimm???
@IKeelYou where is his stuff?

Q: Are non-Muslims allowed to build snowmen in Saudi Arabia and similar countries?

Andrew GrimmI recently read Saudi Arabia 'fatwa over building of snowmen'. A religious scholar issued a fatwa (which merely means legal opinion) against the building of snowmen, or snow models of animals (such as snow camels). Later in the article, it states that fatwas have basis under Saudi law. (Did they ...

Q: Eating cat meat as a tourist in Switzerland

Andrew GrimmI've read that cat meat is eaten in Switzerland. Stop eating cats and dogs say animal rights campaigners in Switzerland cites an animal rights activist saying that it's not legal to sell cat meat (presumably it's talking about uncooked meat), but it's legal to eat your own. Are there restaurant...

Q: Are there any women-only places in the world?

Andrew GrimmIt looks like reports of a women-only city in Saudi Arabia are greatly exaggerated. But are there any other places in the world where the population is entirely or almost entirely female? The place doesn't have to be particularly large, but there has to be a cause of it being mostly female. A to...

I would class at least half of those Q as troll if I met them on Yahoo answers, maybe more than half

Q: Male nerd here, how on earth can I listen to an "otohime" / "sound princess"?

Q: The vote counter in the badge tracker is different than the vote cast

IKeelYouFor example: Please note, we gave the vote cast enough time to update but still it does not match the counter shown in the badge tracker. The thing is, the guy is new to SE and made serial votes, these votes most likely got rolled back, yet they still shown in the tracker but not in the vote c...

I must say that I do enjoy a good question and do not mind the odd odd one, as long as the person asking shows quality rather than quantity

he got tons of questions about muslims..
and sometimes i clash with him because he always judge.. and i am a muslim.. so do the math..

In my case 'guy' is 'gal' but profile likely does not say so (yet)

10:27 PM
really?
sorry for that..
@Willeke fixed..

Thanks
By the way, I also think the badge tracker is behind the actual count, but that might be the roll back.

yes. no idea how things work under the hood..

Yes still says 36/40 but I am out of votes, (=40)

so, i guess you got 4 of your votes rolled back
can you remember who was the [un]lucky person who got more than 4 votes today?

As I said, I am not that much interested in badge, just in habit of doing bug reports

10:30 PM
@Willeke in time, badges will grow in you and you will be addict..
wait until you see hats around Christmas time.. they are even more fun...
they are called winterbash..

I could look but not that awake now. But you might be able/wanting to check it out

i can't see who gets your votes..
SE policy.. votes are confidential

I have been around on Yahoo answers for 7 or 8 years, I doubt you can shock me here

so we can lie
yes, SE is different than yahoo answers.. SE uses some sort of psychological tricks to make you addicted.. and i am not making this up.. there is a whole post in META.SE regarding this..

What are the psychological tricks?

10:34 PM
Y!A is addictive as well. Been there most days (hardly ever miss a day still) for all those years.
And now voting there is gone I have no reason to visit every day. Except I still do.
By the way, I made an important step here today, notice the 1004 next my name?

@GayotFow forgot the name.. but it was built on some sort of a well known thing, it is all about awarding people and then make them hungry for more awards.. something like that i will try to find the post..

@Willeke what was the step?

The 1000 threshold

@IKeelYou Oh yeah, I vaguely remember that

@Willeke Well done! That should open some new menu options

"see you soon"...

I did see 'vote count' and 'VIP usercard' mentioned but do not know what either is

where?

Yes, on my way up, and travel is where I can answer

10:39 PM
AH! The vote counts!!!!
Yes, important step!

'VIP usercard' is the expandable user box..

In the 'you have new privilege' thingy

hover over you username in any question or answer and it should expand..

Yes, very useful.

10:42 PM
i worked hard on the free hand writing, i had to post it even though you figured it out.. lol

Y!A shows up and downs as separate items, so you see 4up/3 down. Here you see 1up
Thanks

@IKeelYou good effort!

i think showing the total without showing the downvotes is more encouraging..
you could get 10 upvotes and one down vote.. seeing 9 is better than seeing +10/-1
that negative sign will be stuck there..

I get one downvote for each answer I give on Y!A when one particular user is around. And hardly ever one when he is not.
I must admit I started it, (Poor quality answer by him for months before he improved.)

+10/-1 means punishment or vengeance

10:47 PM
+10/-1 is what dads would say.. +9 is what moms would say..

Unless they are like Mrs Tatcher

Margaret Thatcher?
this bad lady is from an old cartoon.. forgot the name of the cartoon actually.. i just remembered her..

11:20 PM
Good night
@IKeelYou The vote counter and the badge tracker did catch up (but at 36/40) before the new voting day started.
