12:00 AM
[st͡svr̩ŋkl̩s]

@tohecz It's a lot easier to say "in an ugly way" than uglily"

@DavidCarlisle that sounds too English :p

repulsively, unpleasantly
english is silly :)

@SeanAllred unpleasantliness

@tohecz Hemidemisemiquaver

12:10 AM
@SeanAllred čtvrtsmršť

@tohecz Czech doesn't count :)
but where are the vowels?!?!?

@SeanAllred they are not there

@tohecz :O

@SeanAllred scrvnkls in IPA is [st͡svr̩ŋkl̩s] - no wovels

@tohecz I can't even make that sound…

12:16 AM
@SeanAllred very likely you can't :D

9 hours later…
8:48 AM

1 hour later…
9:50 AM
@egreg very pure latex:-)

10:14 AM
@DavidCarlisle ?

@egreg \vadjust :-)

@DavidCarlisle :)
@DavidCarlisle Would you prefer \vspace{0pt plus -1fil}?
@DavidCarlisle But probably \vadjust{\nobreak\vfilneg} would be needed.

10:40 AM
@egreg I'd just berated wipet for using tex primitives edef and uppercase, and then you're using vadjust..

@DavidCarlisle OK, \vfil\section[title]{title\nopagebreak\vspace{0pt plus -1fil}}

@egreg but I think the OP wants \raggedbottom :-)

@DavidCarlisle Too easy.

11:01 AM
En route to SP. :)

11:25 AM
@PauloCereda Have a nice day!

@PauloCereda stay safe :)

11:49 AM
@DavidCarlisle Did you see the two messages from Hans on the LuaTeX list?

12:36 PM
I've been looking for the command in a long gather that a package is supplying for a couple hours now, but I can't find it
the error thrown is:
! Undefined control sequence.
    <argument> ... ,\theta \\ \text {Range} & \mathbb
                                                      R & 0\leq \theta \leq 2\pi...
    l.143 \end{gather*}
where, if even, around there should I be looking?

@GBeau You're missing \usepackage{amssymb}; it should be \mathbb{R}, by the way.

@egreg that was it, and the package I was trying to remove was loading it :3
thanks
when does that matter?
{R} over R
for \mathbb

@GBeau Well, it depends on what you call "matter". If you mean "works", then: \mathbb R works always. If you mean "is a good coding style", then: \mathbb R is never a good coding style, because R is a macro parameter and these should be enclosed in brackets in LaTeX.

Hi all, is it possible to distinguish by exit codes whether LaTeX compilation failed or document compiled with errors? In my simple test both cases returned status code 256m which isn't exactly helpful

@michal.h21 no AFAIK, but you can tell in some ways whether the compilation was finished. For example something like \newwrite\endwrite\AtEndDocument{\immediate\openout\endwrite=\jobname.end\relax‌\immediate\write\endwrite{FINISHED}\immediate\closeout\endwrite}, and of course: echo > myfile.end before calling latex.

@michal.h21 No, TeX doesn't provide exit codes other than 0 (good) and 1 (errors)

@tohecz I need this in make4ht (which is replacement for htlatex script), so I testing is done from Lua and I can't modify source documents :(

1:20 PM
@michal.h21 ah :(

@tohecz but maybe I can test just last line of the log file for No pages of output. as I just want to stop pipeline of commands in the case of fatal error.

@michal.h21 well, log testing would make sense

@tohecz yeah. I just hoped for easier way, as I have already access to exit codes from Lua's os.execute

@michal.h21: I had a similar problem. When you use a nonstopmode switch or similar in the TeX code, the engine will return a non-zero value regardless of its compilation status. :(

@PauloCereda ah, that's really nice :(

1:33 PM
@michal.h21 Sorry to tell you this. :( @Joseph might tell you exactly which macro raises this (I don't know). But it's a sad behaviour.

1 hour later…
2:36 PM
@PauloCereda it was not really that difficult to parse last line of log file for No pages of output, it works perfectly :) (at least I hope :)

@JosephWright yes, I wondered about replying to say we don't expect byte-for-byte but we want to know the differences so we can normalize (and testing logs is the best way we have of doing regression and cross engine tests)

1 hour later…
4:05 PM
@michal.h21 Yay! :)

5:01 PM
@DavidCarlisle Indeed: I've given myself a while to avoid coming across as perhaps annoyed, and will write something to the effect you say in a bit

1 hour later…
6:06 PM
Guys, does any of you notice some weird font rendering in the main site in FF?
At least, Linux people. :)

@PauloCereda how weird is weird?

@DavidCarlisle Wrong font. :)

@PauloCereda looks ok here (and ff says its lucida sans unicode) windows of course:-)

@DavidCarlisle boo. :)

@PauloCereda I answered a vim query today

6:13 PM
@DavidCarlisle Wow!

@DavidCarlisle alright. Apparently I need to run pdflatex --shell-escape <file> but I am not sure where do I put this in my vimrc. Because I use vim latex. — user1880405 48 mins ago

6:26 PM
@PauloCereda it looks same as usual in Fedora :)

@michal.h21 I suspect it's one of my add-ons. I'll try to disable them later. :) Are you a Fedora user too? :)

@PauloCereda yes, Fedora, Vim and Vimperator :)

@michal.h21 ooooooh! <3
I'm using VimFX. :)

@PauloCereda I suppose I should delete previous message before David comes back :)

@DavidCarlisle: ^^^^^^^^^^^

6:31 PM
@michal.h21 too late

@michal.h21 nah. :)
@David: the vim gang is powerful. :)

@DavidCarlisle ouch :(

@PauloCereda you need all the self help you can get

@DavidCarlisle Why does that sound like an emacs buffer? :)

@PauloCereda you should switch to a real editor like notepad

6:33 PM
@DavidCarlisle ed or joe or pico. :)
oh wait, let's all use cat.

@PauloCereda I remember I used copy con to write machine code when I was kid
in DOS

@michal.h21 Oh my! :)
I remember copy con!

A: filecontents can't update my bibliography database

MicoIf the file \jobname.bib already exists, it will not be overwritten by statements such as \begin{filecontents}{\jobname.bib} ... \end{filecontents} In such cases, you need to use the "starred" variant of the environment so that any pre-existing contents of \jobname.bib will be overwritten: \...

I am right with my comment, am i?

@david I was worried that my mind plays tricks on me.

6:41 PM
@Johannes_B texdoc usrguide :-)

@david Harish said the same yesterday (the comment is now deleted). And both, @HarishKumar and @mico, have much more rep than me.

@Johannes_B hi rep users can be wrong, @egreg demonstrates this quite often:-)

@david :-D

@DavidCarlisle Ah, ah! /sipping the traditional glass of wine on the train

@egreg that explains a lot, you should try answering when sober!
@egreg going home late tonight?

6:51 PM
@DavidCarlisle This is my usual time. The train is approaching the station, just 10 minutes late.

7:11 PM
I hope that this is not production code:
\chapter{Kapitel 02}

...
\\ \\

$  A = 1 + \dfrac{b}{c}  $

\vspace{0,50cm}

$  D = \dfrac{10 + cos\eta}{2}  $

\vspace{0,50cm}

mit $  sin\mathnormal{\eta} = \dfrac{E_1}{E_2}  $

\vspace{0,50cm}

@Johannes_B where did you find that?

Good maen

@Johannes_B ifthen, pslatex, lscape : clearly OP has excellent taste in packages.
4

@DavidCarlisle If pslatex is loaded, the greek letters get uppercased.

7:18 PM
@Johannes_B it's a brilliant package, any wrong letters must be user error

@DavidCarlisle See my minimal example at the end :-)

@Johannes_B I ran that, what am i supposed to see?
@Johannes_B \mathnormal does nothing, but apart from that it all looks as expected?

@DavidCarlisle The OP wants the \eta to be italic

@Johannes_B well tough
@Johannes_B pslatex is aimed at only using the fonts built in to a 1980's apple laser writer, and that didn't have slanted Greek.

@DavidCarlisle I am looking at the sty file, but i am a bit confused.
@david In which part of the internet did the OP find that?

7:27 PM
@Johannes_B a work of art

@DavidCarlisle Surely ;-)

note \ProvidesPackage{pslatex}[1996/07/24 v1.2 pslatex emulation (DPC)] it was an emulation in 1996 emulating a package that was old then

@DavidCarlisle Why am i imagining you saying: "Don't call me Surely!"?

@Johannes_B too long spent watching films instead of reading the texbook

@DavidCarlisle Just seen the trailer. But it is on my list.

7:45 PM
It is late, i am going home. See you guys.

8:29 PM
Working on my two videos from the UK-TUG meeting

9:10 PM
@JosephWright cool

@tohecz Can't upload until Sunday: out of space on Vimeo at the moment

@JosephWright lol

@tohecz I could ask the committee to pay, but for once-a-year it's not worth it

@JosephWright and how do you do it then? You delete something?

@tohecz You get 500 Mb per week, so have to wait for the next quota

9:13 PM
@JosephWright ah ok. Makes sense then.
you could as well write to vimeo and say: "We're non-profit, could we kindly ask you to increase the quota for us for free?" but it's prbbly not worth it

@tohecz It's not actually expensive to get more: we could pay happily
@tohecz For once-a-year, as I say, not worth the effort

@JosephWright yeah

9:44 PM
@PauloCereda 0:0. :(

@tohecz Videos ready, just need to wait for the quota

@JosephWright cool :)

1 hour later…
11:07 PM
@JosephWright btw, I didn't think that the NOx question would get 14 upvotes. I'm impressed. (I was actually afraid that it's gonna be closed as OT ...)

'Ello all!
How goes it?

@Iplodman hhi there :) I'm quite fine, just tired (and looking forward to some Xmas laziness)
@Iplodman and you?

Good, good :)
Just watching TV and browsing Amazon.

@Iplodman well, I'm browsing various keyboard/synth reviews, and I can't decide which stuff is the good stuff (not that I'm going to buy it now, now I only extend from mono to proper stereo 2x100W sound)

11:25 PM
Ah, I'm not good with audio stuff. I'd recommend a Razer keyboard, though.
Razer can get pretty pricey though.

@Iplodman a different type of keyboard, and a different notion of "pricey" :D

Damn!
In that case, I can't help at all ;P

@Iplodman lol :D
and needed to say, Krome is on the cheap end for me

What's it running for?

@Iplodman sorry, what do you mean?

11:39 PM
"What's the price?"
If you don't mind me asking ;P

@Iplodman ah you can click the preview and see it, it's about 1100 pounds
I've got a home a higher-class full digital piano, that one was about 1600 pounds
plus around 1000 pounds for equipment

That's not too bad. No where near my price range, but mine is pretty low (being 14 and all).

@Iplodman ah well, a bottle of juice is about 60p you don't need more when you're 14 :p
well, gotta go to bed. See you another day!
