@TildalWave there?
/me wants icon help
01:41
@ManishEarth someone still programs in icon???
@Gilles lol no
4
A: Is there a Chrome extension that I can use to note why I've opened a tab?

ManishearthSo I just created a quick extension that does this: AnnoTabe For now, you have to install it by downloading a crx from here. Since Chrome doesn't allow directly installing crx files, you'll have to drag-drop the downloaded file to the extensions settings page (chrome://extensions). Alternativel...

I made an extension, needs a better icon
A mu is not what I want for a permanent icon :p
@ManishEarth so you want a nu icon?
@ManishEarth sup?
bows to lord of icons
^^^
01:50
@ManishEarth heh ... how can I be of service?
8 mins ago, by ManishEarth
I made an extension, needs a better icon
It's an extension that lets you annotate tabs
@ManishEarth Oh, pull some sticky note icon off the net, or something similar. Or you want something ... special?
@TildalWave nah, that seems good
@ManishEarth want me to work on it, or you're happy with it?
@TildalWave if there's any way to make it say "tab", then yes, otherwise don't bother :)
Also, I'm not sure if Undo made that or he just posted it
02:07
@ManishEarth why not "burn!"?
text on it
?
O.o
not text
ok, tab then
@ManishEarth ah what then?
@TildalWave I meant the icon should remind one of a tab
but nevermind, this icon is good
02:08
hmmm.... tabs don't really look much anything
:))
Anonymous
02:26
@ScottPack i find it a nice feature
Anonymous
long life perl
ooh, spiffy
this one is very simplistic but looks OK even when really small (16x16)
@TildalWave yeah, it does!
Thanks!
02:37
sure, np
Also, any idea what I should display under the tab to indicate an "annotated" tab?
I'm doing that^ right now
but I can put any text there
Can you just use a different icon? I could make it a different color and with some lorem ipsum inside
@TildalWave as in?
Yeah
That works, though badges probably would be faster
@TildalWave any suggestions on the colors of "annotated tab" vs "normal tab"?
for the icon
I am horrible at aesthetics :p
it's more functional than aesthetic because of small sizes
02:56
@ScottPack @AviD That "..." sounds like pass in python.
@TildalWave woo, that's awesome
@ManishEarth it doesn't resize nice, how big does it need to be? 16x16?
@TildalWave 16,48,and 128
@TildalWave It might be better to go with the badges if this doesn't work
Or just go with a yellow icon
whatsay?
And don't spend too much time on this :)
@ManishEarth ah it's OK, it resizes nice with any size over 16x16 ... I made the small one
@ManishEarth and color blind people? they need to know which one is which too :P
ergonomics for everyone!
like @Adnan :)
@TildalWave sorry, I also need 19 and 38
O.o
03:09
@ManishEarth oki
@TildalWave bah, UX
@ManishEarth doesn't resize OK with 38?
Wait, it does
nevermind
to me it does too, for 19x19 as well
03:22
@TildalWave Thanks a million, the app is now much prettier! :D
@ManishEarth sure ;)
I probably should finish it and put it on the Store or something. Will have to figure out how to do that
free of course
04:07
oh definitely, I'd prolly find use for it too

7 Oscars for Gravity
wtf?

@kiBytes fucking hyped movie
Well most of them are "shitty" oscars but...
@kiBytes There are non-shitty Oscars?
@TerryChia good point =)
I love journalists
07:27
@kiBytes They missed the bit where they sacrifice a goat to the Elders of the Internet.

Q: Why does snapchat have a hard-coded encryption key for photos?

Dmitri DBrequire 'openssl' ARGV.each do|a, index| data = File.open(a, 'r:ASCII-8BIT').read c = OpenSSL::Cipher.new('AES-128-ECB') c.decrypt c.key = 'M02cnQ51Ji97vwT4' o = ''.force_encoding('ASCII-8BIT') data.bytes.each_slice(16) { |s| o += c.update(s.map(&

That question had sense BEFORE the editing...
@kiBytes Then roll it back.
@TerryChia I don't know how to do that, I don't know if I have permissions to do that xD
@kiBytes Click on the "edited blah blah blah ago".
Go to the revision you want to roll it back to and click rollback.
I can't see any "rollback" link
@kiBytes Look harder.
09:37
ctrl+F is harder enough?
Yes but in that page I can't find any rollback (I guess I don't have enough karma)
I guess I will rewrite the question, I neither like the previous one
09:49
@TerryChia He's sub-2000, he can't make rollback edits. Also, rollbacks can't be suggested.
Snapchat encryption doesn't aim to achieve security. It's just DRM and thus inherently security-through-obscurity.
But that scheme is pretty bad, even for DRM.
10:22
@Adnan thanks for the revision ;)
(I don't know why I always write cypher instead of cipher...)
@kiBytes Both of them are correct. 'Cipher', however, has become the more popular spelling worldwide. books.google.com/ngrams/…
Though, in British English, 'cypher' is also quite common.
good to know =)
10:38
@kiBytes it is because of this guy imdb.com/character/ch0000749/?ref_=tt_cl_t6
whoa @kiBytes did you really reference Gibson in an answer? Shame on you.
@AviD Actually, their work on SnapChat is quite nice.
@Adnan yeah? cool, thats surprising. I couldnt be arsed to read it.
Yes yes, I am biased. That's what happens when you get us used to such unmitigated crap, we assume the rest is too.
@AviD Gibson Sec != GRC I think.
@AviD Well, you're kind of right. After all, this is the DMZ. We're not really known for our objectivity.
Like when I talk to my sister.
@Adnan this is not a lack of objectivity, it is a lack of interest in going through the effort in giving the benefit of the doubt, when there is very little doubt.
10:47
@TerryChia Didn't know that. Appears to be correct. Thank you.
He could have just got locuky.
@TerryChia oh! That explains it, then... ;-)
now I can go back to blindly hating on GRC, assuming that 100% is crap.
@Adnan @AviD I was initially very confused when I saw their research on snapchat a few months ago because it was legitimately good stuff.
@AviD Yes. ;)
> •Gibson Security is a group of 3 security researchers/reverse engineers based in Sydney, Australia.
•All members are currently students with no formal qualifications.
"students with no formal qualifications" --> Still better off than GRC...
Actually, someone should suggest that they change their name.
10 bucks they chose they name cuz of Hackers. Hack the Gibson, maaan.
10:52
@TerryChia @AviD grc.com/sn/sn-437.pdf
Ctrl+F "gibsonsec"
@Adnan hahah! Gimme 10 bucks.
Assuming he was right for a change, of course.
> And I know in fact now for sure that it's after "hacking the Gibson," that phrase from the classic cult movie "Hackers" with Angelina Jolie.
> So they're not part of GRC in any way, but they seem like good folks
xD
@AviD I also cited LeakedIn
11:09
@Adnan - while Hackers and Sneakers are essential viewing, Swordfish is the one to watch
@RoryAlsop is this for Halle Berry related reasons?
@RoryAlsop I dunno, Angelina Jolie's boobs vs. Halle Berry's boobs?
I think we need further research.
No, for the TVR
(okay, and Halle Berry)
@RoryAlsop the TVR was cool
oh, and the DoD password brute-force scene.
11:12
@RoryAlsop how long since you see "Hackers"?
Because I rewatched it like 5 months ago and it stinks.
@kiBytes of course it stinks. Doesn't change the fact that it's awesome.
The first time I watched it, in 2000 or so
I loved it but now... I would have preferred not having watched it again...
In fact I didn't rewatched "Takedown" for the very same reason...
11:32

@AviD <throws up from corporate speak overdose>
inorite? Pity the @RoryAlsop.
oh, and @LucasKauffman.
@AviD yeah my tolerance level is way down from when I used to work at banks/Big-4
exactly. The sad part is, that vid is no joke. I am sure @LucasKauffman hears people like that all around him.
I used to work with somebody who spoke more in corpspeak than actual words.
It was always fun when he said entire sentences with zero content, just packed thick with the corpspeak.
@AviD so great xD
11:48
@AviD I can pretty much say I've heard most of that before, most of it said in all seriousness
> At the end of the day, we will need to circle back and maximize the core competencies, so loop me in and flesh it out under the radar, so that we can get our ducks in a row and synergize us on the same page. It's really mission critical.
@AviD after that can we run it up the flagpole to see who salutes?
@RоryMcCune I avoided that one, because of the euphemism.
I am sure you have also met some "corporate developers"
"That is critical to the business core and I would have to refactor the baseline"
Instead of "I have that variable hardcoded and I don't feel like to change it"
see, the problem is that sometimes these terms/buzzwords are great shorthand for quick communication, and sometimes they are being used to obscure communication to hide the fact that the speaker is a clueless idiot.
Same as with design patterns.
It's a classic case of replacing the symptom with the cause.
12:02
Wtf? This got on the supercollider?

Q: Possible attack on website

PramodtechI am a developer and I therefor I have very little knowledge on security. So I need some help understanding the attack on website which we launched recently for one of our client. Website is built on Ruby on Rails and hosted on EC2 Ubuntu. In website log I see lot of requests which are unusual, ...

@TerryChia Tones of visits
> I am a developer and I therefor I have very little knowledge on security.
... Really?
@FEichinger Heh. I like the use of "therefor".
I didn't know developers inherently have "little knowledge" on security!
I wasted so much time on that stuff! OMG!
Hi Pramodtech, welcome to Information Security. I apologize if this will sound gruff, but I take personal offence at your statement "a developer and I therefor I have very little knowledge on security". I am a developer, and though my personal focus is on security, every programmer must be well-versed in at least the basics of security. Saying "I just write code, so I dont know much about security" is akin to saying "I just drive my car, so I dont know much about road safety". Seriously, if you feel you dont know much about road safety, step away from the vehicle until you learn the basics. — AviD 10 secs ago
too harsh?
12:09
A bit. But definitely valid.
@FEichinger hey, I apologized in advance! ;-)
if I was a mod, I would delete that comment.
12:26
@deed02392 Dear Jesus! 8.8 kg?! Where did you find that to begin with?
@Adnan I know right, I'm skinny in places I had no idea I was fat in
@deed02392 How did you verify you didn't lose muscles?
The number sounds too high.
Congrats, by the way.
No way of verifying that @Adnan, but I've been weight training too so it's unlikely
and thanks :)
@deed02392 The reason I'm asking is because I was in similar situation, also doing weight training. I lost about 6kg, 4.5 of them turned out to be muscle. Luckily, I had a friend who works at a clinic that has BodPod, so I was able to verify it.
But if you're losing weight (while weight training) and at the same time your strength is going up, I'd imagine that most of it was indeed fat.
@AviD The same could be said of network and systems people as well. And, in my experience, are no better or worse in general.
12:38
@ScottPack I agree. But I was bothered by it because, for the most part, I dont see as much anti in the networks/systems folks. At least they (usually) accept that it is relevant. That poster made it sound like "I'm a developer! Why should I have to bother with this security crap!" (heard that way too often....
@Adnan Yeah, everything strength wise is improving. I'm skinnier in places in terms of I can feel the bone is much closer to the skin surface than it was before, and that's all over my body eg back, chest etc.. And I did have a huge belly, though not clear in that FB pic of me haha
okay, there are too many people with this name bouncing around.
bodpod looks cool @Adnan
did you do a before and after then?
any idea why you lost so much muscle? what was your diet/routine

Q: Methods to hit on phpmyadmin

Kevin Kaburu I know there is that urge deep inside you to pull this question down, But think of it How many guys out here who want to be like me and you yet have nowhere to start. Let give them insights......

He wants to hit on phpmyadmin. Poor girl.
@AviD Oh, sure. I do hear that much more often from the dev side than the systems side. I'll agree with that.
@TerryChia If anyone deserves it she does.
@TerryChia can we all agree that the tag is an auto-close reason?
@AviD +1
@deed02392 I took before and after. According to my friend, that can be for many reasons. One of them is, believe it or not, is that because I restricted my food so much, my body starved and stored fat. Other reasons were that that I didn't include enough protein in my diet, and I did too much cardio in addition to weight training. What I learned, and applied later, is to eat enough proteins, decrease the calories but not too much, and train reasonable with balance between cardio and lifiting.
@TerryChia Google Translate?
Ahh, how many calories and what were you eating?
I am just relying on the fact I lift to stop burning muscle and retaining fat
13:03
@Adnan ... lead in to something crude about your propensity to "special" activities....
ahhh nice to be reviewing an application, and get to point out some corp-PKI issues...
@deed02392 (Important: Your body isn't mine, and there's a lot of debate on those things. So, what works for you might not work for me).
Weight training does indeed stimulate muscle growth, but I found that even with weight training, I lost some decent amount of muscles, which sucked.. a lot.
My body could be yours, if you want swoon
damn that's surprising
did you feel hungry during your dieting
@deed02392 Ahhh.. I heard that exact sentence, last night. For some reason, it doesn't sound as creepy when you said it.
@Adnan Wut?
Woah, very close to rep capping today.
@deed02392 Yes, a bit.
@TerryChia The text of the question seems incomprehensible to me.
13:11
oh my God
@Adnan I understood it well enough. "G1b m3 th3 expl01ts!"
@TerryChia this guy's blog is gold mbavin.com/my-life/its-my-friends-birthday
@deed02392 Now I eat about 120g of protein as a minimum. I stopped being obsessed about calories, and just went with what is common sense (brown rice & chicken, fruits and vaggies, etc).
@adnan - did you mean "veggies" ?
I really hope so.
@RoryAlsop Oh Jesus, yes I meant veggies.
13:16
pfffft
@Adnan I used myfitnesspal.com the first couple of weeks so I could easily track all my nutritional 'macros'. Now I find I can remember all the info for the foods I eat so it's easier. I never feel hungry and knowing the facts helps avoid temptation for poor snacks (chocolate, biscuits)
@deed02392 Yup, same here. MyFitnessPal is great.
@deed02392 I especially liked it when tracking proteins and carbs, as those were my main issues.
Those sneaky fish@Adnan!
I have issues with carp, and salmon, and even orf.
I mostly eat things like grilled turkey mince burgers, chicken breast and fishes
13:20
@RoryAlsop Damn it!
@deed02392 Oh.. my favourite food!
@Adnan - I apologise. But the speelin mistooks are making me laugh while having my lunch
yeah it's all tasty yet has a great balance of food
nutrition*
which incidentally @deed is an omelette with bacon, chicken and cheese
@RoryAlsop oh no, I agree. That veggies thing was hilarious.
@RoryAlsop haha, lovely
13:21
@RoryAlsop Dammit that sounds good.
yesterday for a treat I had lamb sausage, lamb cutlets, rump steak and BBQ ribs
@deed02392 burn in hell.
so I'm content with only having fruit and rye bread for lunch today
Mmmmm - I'm currently on a downward cycle for weight. Looks like I fluctuate from 12 to 13.5 stone on a reasonably regular basis. Light in the summer, heavy in the winter, but work being quite busy at the moment, I'm only getting to proper gym once a week - not ideal.
@RoryAlsop The biggest one for me was the commute. I had a couple of months when I needed to use a bus instead of the bike (hours at client premises). I gained about 5-6 kg. They disappeared about a month after going back to the bike commute.
13:32
I stuck with the cycling to work thing for a wee bit, but the route is so dangerous I gave up. Might do it at the height of summer again, but probably better on motorbike (with leathers and crash helmet) or in a car. At least the times I take public transport I still have a 20 minute walk twice a day on a pretty steep hill, so that probably helps.
@RoryAlsop that's the sad reality about cycling most of the time, it's just too risky
There we go, rep cap.
the irony being you cycle for your health, then you get knocked off by a taxi or a lorry and die
@TerryChia wow, such cap, so impressed, very show-off
13:54
much nerd
Yay - a wild @Simon appears
afternoon
hello!
@RoryAlsop "Yay"???????
@RoryAlsop weirdly (and perhaps it's a rory thing) that's my range too. Currently just starting to come down off the top end of it...
@RoryAlsop we started with a nice 6 hour walk yesterday, and now trying for one hour up/down a hill per day

Q: How to know my daughters cheat me?

user2927414How to spy on my daughter cell phone. She is 14 year old. I don't want she go out with some boy friends all the time. I want she must study more and more. Location,Whatsapp,SMS,Call are there any way i can spy on my little girl, via pc or anything she has an android..i took away the phone and no ...

/sigh
14:06
I want to verbal this guy so bad.
But I'll stay nice.
what does that mean @Simon?
@deed02392 Are you sure you want to know?
Bad translation, I'll be nice or rather I just won't say shit.
but I thought you were pro spying @Simon
I did it once and it worked well, yeah.
#yolo
Spying on your daughter because you don't want her to go out with dudes to study more that's plain stupid.
Learn to raise kids.
14:12
lol, amazing
which you'd know all about I presume
You're right, I don't hence why I don't have any. Raising kids should be a privilege and there's a shitload of people who don't deserve it.
I thought that buying cheap spotify accounts was over, but I have found that people are selling them again, the last time it was an scam to a Swedish telco
Do you know what is going on now?
14:49
@TerryChia do you think my close reason was too condescending? Or was it subtle enough?
@Simon is that like one step less than oral
@AviD Too subtle. ;)
@TerryChia hahah, hey our job is not to teach him how to be a parent.
Everybody is entitled to mess up their parenting all by themselves.
but feel free to add your own condescending remarks, especially as from the perspective of someone who will not (hopefully) be a parent for a long time.
hell, you could probably use a bit of strict parenting, yourself. ;-)
@RoryAlsop @Adnan LOL, yeah eating vaggies probably burns more calories than you gain.
2
15:09
@AviD Pssssh!
15:29
should I post the follow up question asking how I can chip my baby so that I can follow his or her every move for their entire life
@AJHenderson Chips are abusive. Use drones.
or perhaps I should just follow the traditional parenting advice of taking lots of great embarrassing blackmail photos when they are a baby
@TerryChia hehe, forget showing the boyfriend the shotgun, show him the armed drone
@AJHenderson "Traditional"? Are you taking parenting advice from Homer Simpson?
