i mean the alternative is that they'll block chat.SE like they did chat.SO and I won't be in here anymore except for in the evenings
which would reduce my participation in chat by about 85%

I love it when projects go like this. Let's quickly replace Bootstrap 2.3.2 with Bootstrap 3. someone needs to release a 8"+ tablet with a physical keyboard (snap-on is fine) and call it a phone in the marketing material, and make it LTE etc. and release it on Verizon... then I can be like, "hey, I'm allowed to have this, THIS IS MY PHONE!" Really good super-tiny intro to FP and Haskell worth a skim. Won't teach Haskell but gives a general idea of what Haskell is about better than anything else I've seen in so few words pragprog.com/magazines/2012-08/…
> Ever wondered how functional programmers think? I aim to give you a glimpse into the programming style and mindset of experienced functional programmers, so you can see why we are so passionate about what we do. We'll also discuss some wider ideas about programming, such as making our languages fit the problem and not the other way round, and how this affects language design.
just a magazine article

@allquixotic What do you mean my "allowed"? By who?

@ThatBrazilianGuy we can have "phones" at our desks, but not "laptops" or "tablets"
it's all an arbitrary definition of terms, but if they start calling a device with a big enough screen and keyboard as to be useful a "phone" in any description, I can just cite that description and justify having it as my phone

Convince them with the amazing powers of marketing!
A phablet (, a portmanteau of the words phone and tablet) is a class of mobile device designed to combine or straddle the functions of a smartphone and tablet. Phablets are characterized by the use of large screens, typically with a diagonal size between 5 to 6.9 inches (130 to 180 mm), which complement screen-intensive activity such as mobile web browsing and multimedia viewing. Phablets may also include software optimized for an integral self-storing stylus to facilitate sketching, note-taking and annotation. While Samsung's Galaxy Note (2011) is largely credited with pioneering th...

I think we need to hire someone full-time just to file support requests with Acronis due to bugs in their software
This is getting ridiculous
Every single time the same fucking procedure. "Oh, let me grep our documentation and send you 5 links you've already seen and which have nothing to do with your issue!"
"Didn't work? Let me remote into your machine and restart all services then."
"What? That also didn't work? You must reinstall!"
And you waste a month on back-and-forth with them and then they tell you "Oh! Yeah. That's by design. kthxbye"

If you want to hire someone full time to do anything with Acronis, it should be to replace their shitty software

@JimmyHoffa We're very strongly considering that at this time

Grr. windows is hard.
I am trying to chance my resolution to 3840x1920. (laptop, no attached displays, lid closed, controlled via teamviewer).

@Hennes So long as it doesn't last for more than 4 hours it's ok
2

But the max I can choose is still as low as the tiny laptop screen

@JimmyHoffa heh...
@Hennes try activating additional resolutions under the nVidia or AMD driver software.

Intel graphics driver :(
I got that open. No higher resolutions then 1600x900
I might need to boot it with two monitors attached, so that I can then unplug those monitors (and use them with the main PC again), and then RC from there.
Whoile goal: no to plug and unplug all the time

@Hennes Did you go to the advanced section where it usually has a dropdown with choices of "Show only possible resolutions" and "Show all resolutions" ?

7:37 PM
No such dropdown found (yet)

Err that's for monitor refreshes it looks like... dunno if it would do more

I got the "list all modes", which seems to show a subset of them

monitor tab from there
has a checkbox

grayed out

ouch lol
wait, is there no monitor right now?
That could be why

7:39 PM
I tried opening the lid. no change

maybe need monitor just to uncheck that
ah

I took the laptop home to do some work with some screen realestate. (Bigger monitors at home). TV seemed nice so I did not have to unplug the screens. But argh!

!!Is Hennes screwed?

@JimmyHoffa Indubitably

Could try disabling the monitor in Device Manager...

7:45 PM
Rebooting it now with the lid closed and a 1920x1200 screen plugged in via a DP to HDMI converter.

@Hennes Use RDC?
It will resize to fit your local resolution (or specified resolution), regardless of what displays are or aren't attached to the remote system

That is one option. But right now that is only allowed for the account in the philips AD.

Don't have admin access to the laptop to turn that on?

I guess I could install the VPN software on my home PC, 'dial' in with VPN, then use that toi authenticate on my laptop.

Once you auth on the laptop, I think it caches credentials

7:50 PM
Not sure. Surprisingly I got admin so I can install programs.
But it also has a lot of policies
Hmm, RDP connect fails. :(

@rlemon ok, but is ./configure using python or python3?

hrm, good call. I'll check
#!/usr/bin/env python
this is on Angstrom linux

@rlemon maybe you are missing a devel package that provides the compiler

9:04 PM
hrm

@rlemon find /usr -iname compiler\*py\*

fucking hell...
> Deprecated since version 2.6:
Compiler package for python

@rlemon deprecated, but not removed. it's still there in python 2.x.
it's not until python3 that it was flat out removed
in python 3, the ast module was added to the python core, which provides comparable functionality to 2.x's compiler.ast, so since the node configure script is looking for compiler.ast, it certainly is targeting Python 2.x.

@rlemon that's not going to help; you need to figure out what its search command is, and search for a list of python packages
opkg search python?
no
opkg list | grep -i python

@rlemon let's be clear about this, the internet came before perl :P

yea... hence why my library already had books on the subject before the internet :P

@rlemon ? are you trying to be serious?

are you?

@rlemon ...the internet started in the late 60s and spread through the 70's and 80's, perl was created in '87

don't be that guy -> you know exactly what I mean

9:42 PM
@JimmyHoffa the Internet "started" in the late 60s? that's like saying that the United States of America "started" in 1492 when Christopher Columbus discovered America

for all intents and purposes the internet as we call it today started in '95

DARPA's communications research project and the commercial Internet available to enterprises and end-users are two entirely different things

I didn't get it in Canada until '97

just like having a bunch of Spaniard conquistadores setting foot in North America is a far cry from the signing of the US Constitution and the election of the first President

9:58 PM
The internet was over when all the nerds got connected in the 90s!

"lots"? as in, approximately 1

Bob
hmm... who needed the DDR2 RAM again?
taking inventory at work, and we have a massive assortment of DDR2 chips... which are probably gonna be thrown out otherwise

On the mSATA SSD issue: Newegg posted the RMA last night when the return physically arrived there, but the replacement order invoice only appeared a couple of hours ago.

@Bob "a massive assortment" of integrated circuits of any type can probably be sold for a reasonable amount of money (at least more than it costs to ship them, I'd think) to be smelted down to their raw components and re-used

I think this meant that while Newegg posted the RMA as soon as it got it, it did not actually generate the associated invoices until it tested the returned SSD.
Newegg says they test every product that is returned and that is a good sign because it means that the SSD itself, not the system in which it was installed, is at fault.

platinum, hafnium, copper, gold
@DragonLord they'd have slapped you on the head and sent the unit back if it was fine, right?
