Q: Ubuntu 8.04.4 (kernel:2.6.24) can't detect the Compact Flash

i need to install the Ubuntu 8.04.4 on the CF card, but it could not detect the CF card.it seems like that the OS kernel has no the driver of the CF card. however, i can install the OS on HDD normally. so is there anyone has the same problem? and who can help me ? Thanks in advance.

@NathanOsman That happens every time I reboot my VMs or VPSes, and grub gets hung there. My laptop doesn't do that, nor does my other system (12.04)... not sure what causes it :/

@NathanOsman this happened with OpenVZ stuff, KVM stuff, and VBox VMs, so... not sure why the VMs / VPSes are affected and not actual setups

It's bundled with Windows - but it's a lot better than it sounds.

It's just that browsers, operating systems, network stacks, and routers do a terribly inconsistent job of caching lookups.

It's coming up empty for the hostname.

It's propagating - I can see it from other machines. Just nothing on this network.

So it's either Google's DNS servers or my router.

Q: Fix a broken desktop GUI

I've been running 12.04 on a NVidia GPU. I attempted to install ATI's proprietary catalyst drivers and a second GPU. Now the X-desktop will not start. How do I refresh the borked desktop? Can NVidia and ATI's HD series coexist?
