@RicardoAndrade: I wouldn't say that "people" are flocking to elementary-number-theory, instead "person" is flocking there, as only one user has assigned that tag. Personally I think the tag is superfluous, but anyway quid has thought much more about these things so I await his pronouncement.

@François Dorais: I do not think any questions got retagged so as to remove the tag 'elementary-number-theory'. I simply noticed that the tag is only a few days old, yet already has four questions. So I thought discussing the matter here would be a good idea, as the tag appears rather redundant. On the other hand, as Michael Zieve remarks, it appears there is only one person who has used this tag so far.

@RicardoAndrade sorry for being slow to respond (somehow I did not get the notification). For your question, when I cleaned up the elemantary tag I thought about creating elementary-number-theory as elementary was frequently used in combination with nt.number-theory and as I feel it is after all a somewhat well-established term, but I decided against it.

I had a look at the question tagged. It seems somebody created the tag for one of their new questions and then tagged it on a couple of other questions, two old of their own and one they just answered.

Personally, I would prefer the tag would be removed; I would not do a synonym to avoid to generic tagging with just nt.number-theory. But also I hesitate to retag these on my own as there are worse tags and at least the creator made some effort to give the tag some usage.

@quid: It appears the notification system can be a bit finicky... Thank you very much for your informative opinion. What do you think of François Dorais suggestion above? He says "I think all elementary-* tags should have wikis."
